Madden NFL 10 Player Ratings – A New Philosophy, a New Era

Posted On: Feb. 9, 2009 3:03 PM EST By: raczilla 331 Comments

Hey guys, we thought it would be a perfect time to share something that I am personally very excited about for Madden NFL 10.   We took each and every rating in the game (over 50+ player ratings) and scaled them up/down in a way that is now using much more of the scale.  I like to describe it around the office like this…”We basically stretched out the ratings.”  We want to use more of the numbers so we get a bigger, more noticeable affect in the game.

Let me give you guys an example….in Madden NFL 09 all of the WR’s Route Running ratings ranged from 62-99.  In the current Madden NFL 10 build, WR’s now check in from 35-99.  To counter this on the defensive side, all CB’s in Madden NFL 09 had a Man Coverage rating which ranged from 64-99.  Now in Madden NFL 10, CB’s Man Coverage range is currently 40-99.

Every position and every rating has been re-scaled to expand the range of numbers we are dealing with.  The Overall Rating for your average NFL player has dropped.   Your Joe Average linebacker who was 80 OVR is now dropped down to 70.  The players who were before right on the cusp of 90 in a rating category are now down around 85-88…Meaning, there are fewer superstar players out there.  Before, where you could maybe get by throwing to your slot WR who had 93 SPD, with 74 ROUTES, and 77 Catching…now in Madden NFL 10, that guy is going to have like 91 SPD, 60-65 ROUTES and anywhere from 65-70 Catching.  Let me tell you, these rating drops make a big difference when that slot rookie WR with 90+ speed now drops every 3rd pass or so, or just simply cannot get open.

The superstars have not been affected however, this is intentional.  Peyton is still 99 OVR, Patrick Willis a 99, Larry Fitz is 99, etc.  The elite players at rating categories have not been affected either (JaMarcus Russell still has a 98 Throw Power and Chris Johnson still rated 99 Speed).   [Side note: One of my personal goals is to have the actual NFL players in Madden NFL 10 look like their real-life counterparts and play to their strengths and weaknesses like never before in a football video game.]

Speaking of the Speed, which is always a hot topic, we made some major changes with the infamous SPD rating as well.  To give you a great example, I will again go back to WR and CB.  In Madden NFL 09, the WR SPD range was 85-100…CB was 87-99.

In Madden NFL 10, WR SPD range is currently 70-100…CB is currently 75-99.  So as you may or may not tell, the SPD range has been pushed down, in our opinions, to better reflect the “sim-gameplay” style that Ian and Phil have been telling you about all winter long.  This SPD change has been updated for each position, so it makes a huge game play affect.

Ian and I had a game the other day where Earnest Graham broke one up the middle for a 55 yard touchdown run… and he could not be caught!…E-Grahams’ Madden NFL 10 current SPD rating….80 SPD.  That should give you a good sense of what is possible with the new ratings.  It’s not all about having the 90+ SPD anymore.  On this particular run, Ian’s CB’s got hung up against some blockers and all I had to do was beat one safety and Graham was gone!  He had Brandon Jacobs and his 85 SPD breaking some long runs as well.   On the flip side of bigger/slower backs, Chris Johnson is absolutely lethal right now.  You can actually get him outside with sweeps now and he is a beast to stop.  But again, we are constantly tuning the gameplay, we have an entire team dedicated to that and they are some of the best people we have in the building.

So there you have it, player ratings are in for a major overhaul this year and I am really excited already with the impact they are having on the early builds of the game.  And rest assured, we are well aware of the outside impacts this will have….Rookies will now come into the league based on the new ranges, NCAA Import guys are being tuned as well…Progression has been accounted for as well to better reflect breakout stars and burned-out former stars.  Meaning, we want to have bigger jumps in OVR this year, both positive and negative.  That’s all for now, probably gave away too much already!

Would love to hear any feedback about this big new change in the way we do player ratings.  I’d be happy to answer any questions regarding the new rating ranges….please no individual ratings questions, not answering those!   Stay tuned for more Madden player rating related blogs in the future!

Donny with these new rating can a high route running, low speed guy (marvin harrison) beat a high awarness, high speed cb (Nnamdi Asomugha) and can a high speed, high route running wr (Andre Johnson) torch a nickle back (Sam Madison) o a go route with no safety over top?

Finally can you now hit a streaking wr with more than 2 steps on a beaten cb or do they still have the warp effect?

  • SteelerSpartan said February 09, 2009

Will any of these changes help elusive Qb's Like Roethlisberger, McNabb, and Romo avoid pass rushers...And Im not saying just being able to scramble to the right an chuck either

I mean "extending the pocket". Ben's Performance in the Super Bowl was the epitome of what Im talking about. Doing that is what makes him so great. He consistently avoids 2 or 3 guys. As it is was in 09, his greatest ability was nerfed and he barely avoided anyone

Is that more of a ratings problem?? or more of a not having enough animations reflect what he does???

And is there anything being done to fix that??

  • Adjuster123 said February 09, 2009

Whatever you guys do i hope it works out. I think sometimes when you guys start tweaking different things it makes the game worse. I do see some value in this though, but once again you guys promised us this last year and we still see bums taking the jags and making their bigs great because their is not a system in place that you guys are talking about now. I welcome this if it would make average players average and not great. You guys are right on with the superstars deal because in no way are their as many stars in the NFL that you guys have in madden

  • Aso21Raiders said February 09, 2009

Great that the ratings now will mean a little bit more. What caught my attention though was the second to last paragraph. It all sounds really great though. Now just follow through on it.

  • CLeep3 said February 09, 2009

...forgot to mention in previous post:

    - Please attempt to fix the infamous suction blocks and tackles.

  • CLeep3 said February 09, 2009

Like what I hear.  Superstars needed to be separated more from the pack.  The "weapons" feature didn't completely achieve this goal.  Too often guys like Seneca Wallace and Billy Volek went out and slung it like Peyton Manning, or the Maurice Morris' of the world broke tackles and made plays like a Hall of Famer.

    - In case my last post wasn't read, I'd also like to include my requests of other improvements I'd like to see given attention.  1.  Fix the camera.  Please raise it higher and zoom out a bit on pass plays so we can see the flats and manually covering isn't as hard because of the poor depth perception a lower level camera provides (basically, go back to previous gen madden's camera angle).

    - The play clock not starting immediately issue.  In 09, after most plays, you could run a good 5 seconds off the game clock before the play clock started.

    - WR/CB interactions having improved awareness of their position relative to one another.  Too often when the ball is in the air the WR or DB would make a play on the ball as if no one was attempting to cut in front of them, they would simply enter the animation and not fight for the ball.

    - Improved AI pass rush for user controlled teams.  Too often my elite Oline would constantly let someone come unblocked, yet the Peppers, Freeney's of the world on my team rarely sniffed the QB or disrupted his timing.  It should be even for both sides based on players skills, not the game difficulty level.

    - Lastly, improve WR awareness of where the sideline is.  This was supposedly addressed in 08, but my WR still at times will run themselves out of bounds, or not even attempt to drag their feet (unless they're elite WR, but even average WR attempt to drag their feet and don't run 3 yards out of bounds on their route).

Thank you for all the hard work, keep it up.  Look forward to seeing footage of Madden NFL 10.

    Madden Developer Team,

Thank you SO MUCH for listening to us and making even more improvements on this game. Procedural Awareness, now adjusted Bell curve ratings...this is GREAT! Keep up the good work guys, I'm already jacked for next year's Madden. I look forward to reading more about it.

  • SteelerSpartan said February 09, 2009

Ian and Donny, I hope you guys were paying close attention to the shortcomings of NCAA's "Wide Open Gameplay"

This sounds great in theory but the most obvious hazard would be a nerfed pass rush if the suction blocking is still so persistent

  • ChronicEconomx said February 09, 2009

This looks like your moving through the game with a fine comb which is exactly what needs to happen.

There are simple things to fix that would result in a much better game than last year.

I never play offline I know some still do but the game is really about playing other people. The focus on madden going forward should start with online mode.

Clock management Clock management Clock management. 5min qtr with 40 seconds to pick a play? Obvious problem. People sit on a ball for an entire qtr. getting pushed out of bounds does not stop clock.

Also running straight back and throwing the ball 60 yds perfectly should never ever ever work.

The one mode that never gets love which is very very much needed is PRACTICE MODE. And no i dont mean the madden IQ mode i mean straight up practice. You used to be able to choose only run plays or pass plays which you can't do anymore. Same for defense you used to select zone plays or man to man but now you cant. ALso the random on random plays is hardly random and chooses only like 20 plays or so and leaves out the rest of the playbook.  Practice has so much potential for online gamers.

The franchise mode does nothing to prepare you for online. And it shouldnt. You said yourself that you're not good at reading progressions thats where practice mode steps in. running plays over and over and learning to find little cues that tell you what the D is doing. So If you play alot of online you know that practice mode should be there to literally prepare you for identifying Defenses.

  • FLYERSwin said February 09, 2009

Please Please Please give us Online Franchise like Online Dynasty, with 32 owners and ability to import a draft class. That is all I ask!

  • Harpstar said February 09, 2009

Sounds great. Keep up the good work.

  • SupaMAD said February 09, 2009

So what from I understand every rating range has been drastically increased. The big problem I see with this is players with good speed becoming too outrageously good.

Say for example players without great straight line speed that in real life seem to be able to catch faster guys in real life due to taking good angles and having anticipation. Will this transfer to Madden this year or will it be a touchdown every time players like Peterson break into the open?

Will more fast defensive players without the weak awareness and play recognition now over-pursue plays and put themselves in bad positions?

And lastly kind of half related to the subject I think there needs to be a rating for a player's ability to strip the ball (not through big hits) and that attempted strips should be able to be initiated by the first tackler after making contact like they are much of the time in real life. Some players, like Charles Tillman, and many teams, like the Bears and Colts make this a point of emphasis and thrive on this yet this has been nonexistent in Madden.

  • pladas30 said February 09, 2009

it sounds great, but i think there should be one change

for xbox live you should be able to "spectate" a friend's game while playing a ranked match on xbox live. i think it would be cool if you were able to watch your friends play, that's the only sugjestion i have, keep up the good work

  • Cnada said February 09, 2009

Sounds great in theory, if i have moss i want him to break away from the pack or a rookie get massive progression if he does a great job.

I like it just has to make guys really standout so if you want to stop a guy like fitzy then you need him double covered as much as possible.

Hopefully attention can be paid to big backs like jacobs who dont get the tough yards they deserve.

Keep the new ideas and community involvement going!

  • nyemanning@yahoo.com said February 09, 2009

I think it would be great to see statistics more specific for each position. Or better yet having more different categories when rating. For example accuracy doesn't take into account whether the QB is still accurate on the run. Some QB's like Big Ben are more accurate on the run then say Eli Manning and that should be reflected.

  • CAMREN630 said February 09, 2009

dont tell us all these things will be there just so we can buy the game let it actually make a difference.and who does yall ratings?you guys give no room for growth a guy lets say dwayne bowe has an ok rookie year next thing you know he is an 90,stop that get the ratings right for once.yall told us last year bums would be bums yet still i can send figures on a super deep post and hit him cause he has an 96 speed but he is like a 65 overall.lets go ea step it up.

  • MonkeysofDoom said February 09, 2009

I think if you're going to stretch or water down the ranges, you need to treat positions equally. How is "WR SPD range is currently 70-100…CB is currently 75-99" (in Madden 10) this equal? At the NFL combine 4.3 speed is 4.3 speed whether your Devin Hester or Jevon Kearse. Treat the Defensive Players equal to the Offensive Players. Another thing I noticed, since Donny is in charge of Franchise Mode, Madden 08's Franchise Mode was superior to 09. Please bring back the weekly gameplan, the Progressions every few weeks and the newspaper features. But you can dump Tony Bruno, maybe have someone who's less anoying like Jim Rome do the commentary for franchise mode.

Speaking of commentary. Tom Hammond sounds like he's never seen an NFL game before. Comments such as: " A little handoff" "Nice little pass play" "He threw a pretty ball" and pronunciations: "LOS-man" (J.P. Losman) and "AsomOOGA" (Nnamdi Asomougha). You'd be better served using a WeeGee board to coax Howard Cosell out of his grave than bring that clown Hammond back. What about Mike Patrick, or Joe Buck. PLEASE FIRE TOM HAMMOND, HE RUINED THE GAME!

  • maddenpro100 said February 09, 2009

I think there should be trick plays and make better catching animations and when you lay someone out they should have a better chance of fumbleing next time

Better commentary And big play recievers like t.o and moss should be better at making catches than an average reciever like Patrick crayton

It's interesting and ultimately, a welcomed addition to stretch out the ratings more.  My only question is...why stop there?  Why not go for broke and go from 0-100?  Make the slowest guy in the NFL a 0 speed, the fastest guy a 100, and fill in the gaps in between.

  • Joborule said February 09, 2009

I dig this. Players in Madden could use more diversity in how they play. Players are either very good, average, or below average in each position. Strengths of a player didn't stand out too much aside from speed and broken tackles (thanks to the highlight stick break tackles). I'm glad to hear that they've been messed around to not only make the ratings have more disparity (and I hope the broadening of ratings widen in the future), because this will open up differences between players and make some ratings have more effects. I love hearing that if a player gets clear and no one is around that they are gone. In the past that 90 speed player would have caught up to that 80 speed player even if they we're out of position by a quite a bit when the runner broke out.

I hope  weight and size also has been re-tuned to have more emphasis on player ratings and matchups. I HATE, seeing a small player be able to take on a big player more times then not like they're all little beasts. This is also a very important part of line battles and why the 3-4 doesn't work like it should because that one nosetackle can't create havoc due to his strength and size.

  • xII_CNOTE_IIx said February 09, 2009

I like the idea of these rating changes but if you are going to tamper with the ratings you should make them matter. For example, in madden 09 the agility and acceleration rating is useless. I created a HB with 0 agi. and acc. and it had no effect on his running ability. he could still cut and make the moves to hit the big runs. Another rating is strength, which should tie into breaking tackles, making tackles, etc. If a running back encounters a 325 lb. DT in the backfield he should either lose or get pushed back instead of pushing the DT out of the way like a Truck. These ratings need to help the game be a little more realistic.

  • giankeesman said February 09, 2009

There are clearly some balancing issues that are going to be needed to work out. Brandon jacobs may not be fast, and chris johnson mite be fast as well, but a 14 point difference seems wide. Also when u consider that a good linebacker is going to be in the 70s speedwise, it seems like theyre could be a BIG problem tackling chris johnson, even if the linebacker is moving laterally while johsnon is going east and west. This idea could work in a huge way towards fixing the player ratings and making the game more realistic, but i ask u to please be meticulous in the player ratings, and how they affect the game. Improper balancing with the ratings would likely ruin the game altogether.

  • jonboy_jlf_2004 said February 09, 2009

Sounds good.  I really like where this is heading.  I do, however, have a few very constructive statements about what I think should be changed for Madden 2010.  First of all, I know you guys set out to make the most realistic game possible, but I have noticed several things in Madden 2009 where I say to myself "that would never happen in the NFL.

    1) The angles defensive players take to make a tackle.  CPU defenders often run straight at a player who is on a breakaway and often miss the tackle.  In the real NFL, players take a calculated angle to have a better shot at bringing the guy down.

    2) The entire penalty system needs to be overhauled.  Mainly, ALL NFL penalties should be implemented into the game.  Make it where I can lay out a player out of bounds if I choose...just make sure I get flagged for it.  How about a defensive holding or hands to the face?  None of these are ever called in a game.  I also feel that there should just be a simple 'on' or 'off' switch for penalties.  Take out the slider bars.  They should be called as close to real NFL referees as possible.  You could even take it a step further by having some officials who are particularly loose in a game and others who call it really close.  Remember...we are shooting for REALISM here.  Obviously most people only play 5 min quarters so there will never be near as many penalties called.  Still, I would like to see much more balance here.

3)Offensive players shouldn't quit on a play.  For example, I had a play today where a lineman picked up a fumble.  Chris Johnson was about 10 yards away and should have easily caught him; however, he just jogged casually down the field...nowhere near at full speed.  Because of the camera flip on a turnover, I could select Chris Johnson to give him a speed boost.  I was only left with a lineman who had no chance of running the player down.

    4) Star defensive players should be able to reach the QB easier.  I play with the Titans and have played three full seasons.  I can count on one hand the number of times I've broken through the line with Albert Haynesworth.  This should not be the case for the most dominant defensive player in the league.  The Titans are known for being able to get consistent pressure by only rushing their front four.  However, in Madden, I rarely ever get sacks unless I bring a blitz.

That's all for now.  I really appreciate the hard work you all put into these games and I would love it if you would take some of my thoughts into consideration.

  • Serg812 said February 09, 2009

You guys need to add move packages to the players. It's a great idea. Take a guy like Brandon Jacobs. Brandon Jacobs will probably have a 99 trucking which means he'll get the very best and effective trucking animations in his arsenal that only a 99 attribute can trigger. There should be about 6 packages for each attribute which calls for more animations of course. 60-75 trucking should get move set 1, 76-85 gets move set 2, 86-90 gets move set 3, 90-95 get move set 4, 96-98 gets move set 5, and 99s get a move set that contains 5 amazing animations that allow them to plow through 2 players even. 99 rated guys should have all 6 move sets allowing them to do every single move in the game. His elusiveness will be around 70-80, though so his quicker moves should be limited and not as effective since he'll have Elusiveness package 1 or 2. Thanks for hearing me out.

  • sniperhare said February 09, 2009

I'm glad that they're changing the ratings and fine tuning the way they rank the players. That they're tweaking imported rookies from NCAA is great to hear.

  • winx_jynx said February 09, 2009

just a simple question, is this not going to make the game even more cheesy, where randy moss can just run a streek down the sideline and catch the ball 1-3 times in triple coverge? or are you guys going to make top CB be able to play one on one and win. second can we please have an option for CB and LBs to jump routs because i am sick and tired of the out rout working ever single time in man converge.

  • Hazy101 said February 09, 2009

I am pretty confident that you guys know what needs to make the game better as far the physics part of it. I want to see more excitement and detail in franchise mode. Others have already mentioned, the commentary needs to be improved and the individual players need to be remembered during the season. If you are playing the Colts, and the week before, Peyton Manning through for 500 yards, it should be talked about. If you are the Titans, and in the 1st game of the season(against the Colts) you beat the Colts and Kearse had 3 sacks, that should be talked about in the commentary. I also would like to see video clips of other games going on Sundays. A halftime show where your game is discussed to some degree and you can see some highlights of other games that week.

Thanks for listening....I believe you guys want the game to be better than what most of us want it to be since it's your jobs. I trust you will do the best job possible. Maybe if you have some questions on what to leave out or put in, you should poll the Madden community to get your answers.

  • DMBlaxsheep said February 09, 2009

Quick question...will there be any in-season progression w/ roster updates? For example, Arizona's overall was set in the high 70s but as the season progressed, that would hardly be the case...

Also a few ideas that could stand some tweaking

    1. Better/consistent blocking. Whether on kickoff or during run plays, it gets annoying when a defender runs right past the block without any type of bump or hinderance. Even worse is when you expect it to happen and your blocker actually catches the block.

    2. Super jumps. I guess this should be variable based on ratings/star status, but never should an average LB or DB do a straight 50 inch vertical to pull down an interception....yet i've seen it happen on several occasions.

    3. Player control delay. How many of us have tried to switch to the DB in pursuit/trail and a split second delay allows the receiver to separate from coverage?

    4. More proficient defender swating/coverage. It amazes me even to this day how a star defender who is (very) closely shadowing a receiver will just throw his arms up in the "touchdown motion" and let the ball sail right through his arms but an average defender who is possibly more than 5 yards away can just jump into the air and knock the ball down.

    5. Presnap defense. On the PS2 version you can scroll through each player and manually give them an assignment, but this option is obsolete on PS3.

    6. Control settings. Allow users to choose between the classic controller config and other common configs. Some people just dont possess the dexterity to learn different ones every year.

    7.  More presnap motion on O. Allow multiple moves between WR/RB/TEs presnap (within rules of course). For example, sending a RB to the slot then deciding to pull a WR back to line up behind the QB. I've seen it done in NFL games but doesnt necessarily need to be in a full audible situation.

    8. Catching. Get rid of the "tap catch button for aggressive catch and hold catch button for possession catch" and just make it a catch button. Let the receiver's awareness/catching rating handle that.

    9. Ask Madden?? Seriously, who still needs to "ask Madden." My grandmother doesnt even have to ask Madden...

    10.

  • russstwin1@hotmail.com said February 10, 2009

My big pet peeve with this year is WRs not going up and fighting for the ball in the air, which comes down to an awareness issue. For example, if I throw a fade to Larry Fitz, then he should go up and get the ball and not let it sail over his head.

  • BCoax said February 10, 2009

when i play in superstar mode as a WR the quarterback underthrows fade routes. i find myself having to cut back just to try to get a catch. make it so that the computer will throw it in front of me so i could cath it in stride.

Also when your passing the ball in superstar and you play runningback, he should always be a target for the QB even if he is supposed to block. Fullbacks and pulling OL men need to block better as soon as you get to All-Pro they start whiffing on blocks.

I do like how you changed the ratings. when you watch a real game if a starter gets hurt and a backup coms in sometimes he can do a goodjob. Think Tom Brady or Matt Cassel. When you play quarterback in superstar mode you should let the player choose from 4 plays from 4 different formations. (Run, Short Pass, Deep Pass and Playaction.)

I would also like to see more bobble catches over the middle of the feild. Ref's flags on the feild would also be nice. You could then use that to change players body languages.

In superstar we need a better pass rush most of the time you would get cut or just not make it. it is hard gettin sacks even in rookie and my lineman is 98.

When you get a legend from NCAA and import him to superstar you should be allowed to change what he looks like before you play as him B/C the sliders in NCAA and Madden are diferent.

Once you score a TD and you celebrate you should not be able to use that animation again. Also you should have differnet buttons for celebrating like in NCAA. (Normal, Dunk, Team, and Taunt)

IN REAL FOOTBALL, LINEBACKERS ALL MOST ALWAYS PLAY THE RUN FIRST. (MAKE SURE THE OFFENSE ISN'T GOING TO RUN THE BALL) IN MADDEN IF THE LINEBACKERS PLAY ZONE THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY DROP BACK AS IF THEY KNOW IT WAS A PASS. MY COACH WOULD KILL ME IF I DID THAT.

Oh and don't change Ask  Madden I love that it makes choosing plays fast and easy.

I think it's great that you guys have focused on the realism of the game...as someone who has had every one for the last 20 years I've seen the growth. I think a little more consitant blocking, better AI on defense, Player models being a little more like themselves (Steve Smith Larry Fitzgerald, etc, are a little wider than shown in the game), a little more accuracy with uniforms like the team colored shoes, long team colored socks like the Giants and Ravens players wear, and a true stutter-step. Do this along with the improvements you already have in place and you'll have the perfect football game. Trust me, my kids play madden and so do their friends.

All these new features are great!  I really hope you guys make the NexGen version have ONLINE FRANCHISE capabilities.  I really don't know why we had to take a step back for the nexgen consoles.  PS2 has this feature.  Please bring back the ONLINE FRANCHISE for PS3!

I think this is a great idea from the perspective of in game play.  My concern is with the sim side of things.  If the sim engine relies on these ratings, will it require tuning to keep the stats NFL realistic?  Madden 09 stats were much better than 08's and much more in line with NFL averages.

Thanks for the great work Donny!

  • Bubstarr said February 10, 2009

I like the approach that you guys are now undertaking. Intricate details will make the game more realistic than ever. I believe that what we see on Sundays is closer to fruition than we think. Keep up the good work.

  • NYYIronHorse said February 10, 2009

I don't know if all of these were mentioned already but here goes.

    1. Fix the cameras. We cannot see our wideouts and seeing as it's already ridiculous how the CPU picks off passes, it needs to be fixed.

    2. Stop having the CPU come out of nowhere to make a pick. It ruins the realness of the game.

    3. When I'm on offense, after a play has ended I should be able to go right to the play calling screen without having to wait 5 seconds or whenever the game decides to take me there.

    4. My QB has about 2 seconds to throw the ball while the CPU can make a sandwich before he decides to pass the ball. It doesn't matter how great my D-Line and LB's are, they cannot get to the CPU QB.

    5. Fix the Challenge Play. There are times when a receiver clearly caught the ball out of bounds and my challenge is never ruled in my favor.

    6. If you're not going to fix the CPU interception festival at least add an interception slider to the offense skill sliders so I can do it myself.

    7. Put the Squib kick back in the game.

    8. Thank you. Please make the game what is once was. The greatest football game ever.

  • mhoodiii@surewest.net said February 10, 2009

I think it these things are all great and it translates into you being able to scheme your defense to compensate for teams not having the greatest talent.  This all does not matter if a full-blown online franchise is implemented with commissioner having full control from approving trades and such.

    IM SORRY BUT

im a MIAMI fan ... miami already has low rated players in madden 09 which they shouldnt! i dont want to see there OVERAL records decrease now. I think you should keep the OVERAL RECORDS THE SAME!!! i like seeing 80-95 players it helps me pick out the good from the greate now after playing madden for 9 years i dont want to have a starting QB with a 76 Overal rating... All im saying is that keep the OVERALS in the 80-99s but for the atributes do what ever you want....

  • Proud2B Awesome said February 10, 2009

I like the sound of this stuff,

However I would hope that when it comes to the frequent roster updates it is done so more accurately than in the past. The final roster update for 09 that came out was pretty surprising, especially for a Seahawks fan like me. The team had a horrible year, and of all the factors to cause that, injuries was namely one. My two key examples are Deon Branch and Seneca Wallace. Try to bear with me and keep in mind I'm not just trying to whine, it has a point.

Wallace before had an 81 or 82 OVR rating. His strengths are his scrambling agility and quickness, but throughout the season we saw this guy evolve into a competent, composed and accurate QB, ending the season with 11TD/3INTS and setting a franchise record with pass attempts/completions without an INT. Somehow by the final roster update he drops to a 79, and his accuracy rating is in the low 80's, barely beating Seahawks #3 QB Charlie Frye who had a disastrous year when he started early in the season. How were these stats put together? It definitely does not seem proportionate. His biggest flaw is not being about to see over his linemen, which is compensated by his agility out of the pocket(which could also be contested is way too low given some of his highlights this year).

Same with Branch, he was injured a large part of the season, but when he returned, actually had a pretty good performance, making a lot of big plays, but somehow he is dropped from an 87 to an 82. An 82? Really? If anything, just drop his INJ rating, that's why it's there, isn't it?

At the same time, our DT's are still about the same rating they were to begin with, and it has been said that they + our S's are a big reason our D failed this season. Brian Russel is still an 85, and he has been pegged as a big flaw in our pass protection. If anything, he would be deserving of a ratings drop over the previous two players I mentioned.

It is really disappointing to see players that are usually good/great get a ratings hit because they have been injured. Why have an INJ/STA/TOUGHNESS rating if they won't be used properly?

Which brings me to my main point:

I played the NBA 09 demo the other day and loved the idea around DNA, using live stats and transposing them into fluid ratings for players. Especially given the popularity in fantasy football, I would assume that using a system like that would not only be really effective but also take a lot of the workload off of your dev staff in the long run, only having to make minor changes here and there. If used right, it would be awesome to play online and use a team that is on a hot streak and effectively play off that momentum and swagger they have in real like (look at the Cards).

Since you're also working on including more in depth emotion, I would love to see some kind of system utilizing chemistry between specific players. This year Wallace seemed to have more chemistry with Branch, Hasselbeck with Carlson, etc., Utilizing certain tendencies with their strategies and game plans in certain packages and plays ("One of my personal goals is to have the actual NFL players in Madden NFL 10 look like their real-life counterparts and play to their strengths and weaknesses like never before in a football video game")

Anyways that is my rant. I hope it is useful for you guys and you take it into consideration!

ONE LAST THING add THE WILDCAT to the playbook

  • carrot1717 said February 10, 2009

    1. Give Chris Johnson his footplant that he has on outside runs.

    2. When I'm breaking a big run and a guy dives and comes up short and then magically gets back up and tackles me in like a split second.... yeah please fix that.

    3. Superstar, PLEASE! Make it more in-depth than just a schedule and stats gives us evening events where we could choose things that effect our like like 1. Go to a Club; 2. Do Charity Event: 3. Stay after Practice; and then give us different interviews than the same ones over and over again and one that have to do with how YOU or a teammate played or something you got in trouble for. And let us get suspended and make us not a starter if we don't deserve t just make it harder then on NCAA.

    4. Online Leagues, please make them almost identical to the NCAA 09 online dynasty, which is a BIG hit, but keep a NFL spin on it.

    5. Franchise, I love the franchise but like the superstar give us more than just the games. Give us things like player suspensions and then bring back the news. I want to see amazing stories about " Pacman " gets suspended because of altercation with bodygaurd, or that in a press confrence today Tony Dungy retires as a coach. Then don't make players retire just because they pass the age of thirty do it based on how much of a beating they take and their toughness and let you try to sway their opinion on retiring. And finally Let you be Jerry Jones and make a relationship with some of your players bad and good. Same with player to player, for example T.O. and Tony Romo because well let's face it he IS his quarterback.

Thank you, hopefully you take all these into concideration.

    5. Franchise,

  • carrot1717 said February 10, 2009

OH YEAH! I forgot to mention to put in more trick plays a option or two in every playbook and the " WILDCAT " in every playbook, a flea flicker, and please give us a Half-Back pass because there's no point in having like 80 throw power on

D-MAC and not letting him pass. Then also a more customizable depth chart because what if i want to put a Linebacker at Half-Back in real life who's gonna stop me but on madden some football god can, so what I'm saying is let every position play every position but don't change their ratings, for example why does my punters kick power drop when i put him at kicker does he become week because he's kicking a different way i think not!

  • sconn1 said February 10, 2009

i would like to see the fatigue ratings tweaked as well. it is 100% unreasonable to think that these guys can go no huddle running 60 yard sprinted streaks then sprint back (on an incomplete pass) to the line over and over again. when people have incomplete passes on these long-bomb attempts and such, the fatigue should be more accurately affected as the player makes them do it over and over again. same with running a player who doesn't really get the ball handed to them a couple times a game, like most fullbacks...fatigue should go way up on multiple "in a row" attempts. and when someone "subs" a tightend with no running skills who can consistantly gain yards...something's wrong. also, i'd like to see things like accuracy go down when some of these clowns drop a qb 20-30 (or more) yards deep running around like a chicken with their head cut off then launch a bullseye 50 yard "no look" pass. more falling down in the rain and snow (especially unrealistic qb scrambles), more wind affecting the pass game.

This is what i think you should put in Madden NFL 10

1.we should be able to create our own playes without NFL head couch

2.make the quarter backs be able to throw the ball deep again and make the recivers to be able to catch the ball.

3.make the online league like were we can choice if we want a private league for you to have a password or have a local league were anyone can join.

4.we should be able to block field goals and punts

5.in online ranked games we should be able to see the opponets maddenIQ and the opponent can see yours and then at the end of the games compare the two IQ's or add them up like when you are faceing the computer.

6.we should be able to use two, three, and four people on one team.

7.we should be able to doo online co-op 2 on 1,2 on 2

Thanks for reading my comment and hope you use some of my suggestions.

Since this is my second comment I'll take this opportunity to thank you a second time for giving us fans, us customers an opportunity to blow off steam and voice our opinion to you, the ones who forge the actual game.

    Down to business...

I was wondering if you guys were giving serious consideration to the progression system in Madden? I read obviously about how players are going to see larger positive and negative overall jumps, and that great but if serious changes aren't made to the progression system I'm going to be deeply upset and I know I'm not the only one.

First, this whole speed thing. My RB's consistently progress in the speed category and guys like Marshawn Lynch end up with 97 speed...lol Come on now you guys gotta fix that. If a "speed" back progresses after a great season, I'm totally okay with that. But if a "power" back gets bumped year after year by 2 points, good lord. I can understand a power back getting a jump, early in his career, after a great year, by a point or maybe 2 points if he shatters records or something but you cant have Frank Gore and Co. with 97 98 99 speed, its just not realistic so help us out on this guys. Clearly this is going to be helped out with the whole "stretching" of ratings but still you gotta fix the speed progression. Suffice to say this isn't the only case of bad progression but I'm hoping you guys see this example, recognize it as an issue and address it across the board.

The other thing I wanted to bring to your guys attention, and something I think needs some careful diligence, are draft classes and how new players in the game progress. Basically I want to see top 5 draft picks progress like it if they're playing at a high level. I want to see 2nd round picks to progress like it and I want to see 6th round picks who start 16 games, give up 1 sack and lead the league in pancakes progress like a late round gem. Follow? I guess what I'm saying is pay attention to these small details regarding the draft and importing players. Something I thought that could be considered, as far as a players "potential" rating and in turn how they progress, is what a players rank is as a recruit. For example a 5 star recruit would obviously have a much higher potential and thus a higher ceiling than a 3 star recruit.

    Again EA, thank you.

EVERYTHING SOUNDS FANTASTIC.  I HOPE THAT THE SKILL LEVEL OF THE PLAYER IMPACTS THE GAME MORE THAN THE AI ON THE FIELD. I LOVE TAKIN A TEAM LIKE THE SAINTS AND STEPPING UP THEIR D WITH HIT STICKS AND STRIPS EVEN THOUGH THEY SUCK. IT MAKES ME FEEL MORE APART OF THE GAME CAUSE I DONT HAVE A GOOD D.  ALSO PLEASE WORK ON HAVING AUTHENTIC PLAY BOOKS, UNIFORMS, CHAIN GANGS, FEILD LINES LIKE ON TV (BLUE RED AND YELLOW. MAYBE COULD EVEN HELP AN INJURED MAN OFF THE FIELD IF HE GETS HURT. REAL SIDELINE PLAYERS AND COACHES(WHICH THE COACHES LOOKED GREAT) PLAYERS OF THE GAME, HALF-TIME REPORTS. CHEARLEADERS DONT MATTER. PLAYER INTROS. MORE AGRESSIVE CATCHES. AND BETTER SCREENS CUZ THE ARE PRETTY HARD. OH AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST BUT WOULD IT EVER BE POSSIBLE TO WATCH ONLINE GAMES BETWEEN DIFFERENT PLAYERS. LIKE YOU COULD JOIN IN AND WATCH AND ALL BE LINKED IN A GROUP CHAT. I WOULD REALLY GET ALOT MORE PEOPLE INVOLVED. A LIL FRIENDLY TRASH TALKING BETWEEN FRIENDS THAT CANT BE NEXT TO ANOTHER. THAT WAY WE COULD RUN OUR OWN TOURNEYS ONLINE. I THINK THAT WOULD EVEN INTREST NON MADDEN PLAYERS BUT PEOPLE WHO HATE WHEN FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER AND JUST MISS THE GAME. ALSO ADDING A RANKED AND UNRAKED TEAM ONLINE MODE UP TO MAYBE THREE PLAYERS(TWOS GOOD) THAT WOULD ALLOW YOU AND A FRIEND TO DOMINATE THE ULTIMATE MULTIPLAYER GAME EVER TO HIT THE MARKET, SMOKIN ALL THE COMPUTER GAMES LIKE W.O.W.  THIS WOULD TAKE MADDEN TO ALEVEL THAT NO OTHER COMPETITIOR COULD COME CLOSE TO AND FINALLY SHUT ALL THE PEOPLE UP WHO SSAY THAT MADDEN IS JUST A REPEAT. THESE ARE SOME THINGS THAT MIGHT BE TOO LATE FOR 10 BUT MAYBE 11 OR 12, BUT ILL BE THE FIRST TO SAY THAT BEING ABLE TO WATCH OTHER MADDEN GAMERS PLAY IN ALINKED SYSTEM AND PLAYING MULTIPLAYER ONLINE WOULD BE CRAZY AND COULD NEVER BE TOPPED. some things that could be improved are, for whatever reason every Madden i've ever play i noticed that the game plays different as time goes by. When i first got madden 09 i was getting int's left and right, now i lose so many games cause my man flat-out drops wide open int's but catch the hard one's, or just because it's Tom Brady and Randy Moss, my defender won't even react, the ball will go right over his head then he goes for the tackle. And U can now run with the qb to one side of the field and as-long-as U r holding turbo U can accurately throw to the other side of the field. The challenges r only good for fumbles, we need an accurate chain gang back, smarter RB's on sideline catches, the QB sneak is too effective, better looking sidelines, Focus more on the On-line game play. I mainly only play on-line, i could care less about playing against the cpu! But basically enhance the fundamentals!Thanx, i'll be back with more!

hey guys. thanks, first of all, for allowing our voices to be heard. we are, after all, those who will be ultimatley buying and playing the game. keep up the great work. however, with that being said, i do have a few more suggestions.

1- just a small thing. bring in the the wildcat. im curious to see how it would work in the game. or at the very least bring back package creation so we can do it ourselfs.

2- i'd like to see players have a disiplinary rating added to their attributes. which in turn would add another dynamic to free-agency and the draft in franchise mode. you would be forced to either sign players to short term, safe contracts, or not draft/sign the player at all. players with low disipline ratings (i.e. t.o.) would consistantly do things detrimental to their team and themselves. resulting in suspenions from the commish and/or ownership. whereas players with high disipline ratings (i.e. peyton manning), you never hear anything from them. and you can fill in in between. also allow this rating to grow as players either mature or behave for extended periods of time. and on the flip-side the rating drops the worse a player behaves to the point where he's rendered un-signable.

3- adding to this new displinary dynamic, teams would begin to gain a reputation as a out-of-control situation. which leads me to my next suggestion, team reputation. teams can gain a certain reputation based on how the team calls plays, performs, how the players behave, the type of players the team signs, etc. for instance, the steelers have a long running reputation of being a run-first, phyisical, defensive team. the cowboys have a long-running reputation for drama, big money free-agents, and signing/drafting/tradeing for those high-risk players. this could go a long way towards making franchise mode more realistic.

4- PRESENTATION!!! if nfl 2k5 could have that good of presentation on ps2, i believe you guys could easily pull it off on at least the ps3 version. i simply suggest you jack everything they did back then. it made the game more fun, interesting, and realistic.

i hope you hear me. i believe these are very good suggestions. get back to me.

  • ACREYMAN said February 10, 2009

Well after reading the ENTIRE article I noticed at the end something that alot of us have been asking for as well. Bigger jumps in OVR, both positive and negative. I hated it when when a guy near the end of his career dropped from like a 95 to a 91. Why would you NOT want a guy that was a 91 rating on your team? Except for maybe some salary cap reasons a 91 player is not going anywhere if I can help it. I want to see a guy like Zach Thomas go from a 90 to like a 75 during the course of a year and even worse in the off season so you cut a guy like that like you would in real life. You might take a salary cap hit but if you are paying 10mil a year for the the guy then you will gladly take the hit. id also like to see a guy loose OVR based on the beating they take throughout their career. Some running backs get 5-7 good years as a starter and then all of the sudden they are done. Their bodies just got the crap beat out of them and thats that. I would love to see a 6 year RB all the sudden drop in ratings during the season because u used him to ground pound all the time and he is just wore out.

  • ACREYMAN said February 10, 2009

    One mor rating suggestion...

I heard Chris Collinsworth talk about Tony Romo's quick release in EVERY game I played (which got annoying....more commentary please).  There is not a QB RELEASE rating...so whats the point.  I want to see a difference in how fast a QB gets rid of the ball.  When u hit the button ROMO should get rid of it immediately and a guy with a lower Release rating will take a little longer getting rid of it.  I think that would make a HUGE impact on the way you look at Free Agents or rookies when u need a QB.  Do you want an accurate guy with a slow release?  Or do you want a guy that can get rid of the ball quick but his accuracy is not all that good....lots of possibilities there.

  • NoSubs said February 10, 2009

This is great news! It is always fun picking up a low rated player who is a weapon (i.e. Brooks with Cannon Arm, Figurs with Speed, Crayton with catching, etc.). I hope this is still possible under the new ratings system.

Additionally, I like how in franchise mode certain player achievements are added to the player's biography (i.e. "2009 Pro Bowl", "2009 DPOTY-NFL", etc.). Please include things like this retroactively (i.e. "2004 League MVP", "2002 OPOTY", etc.). Furthermore, please include more achievements (i.e. "2009 Super Bowl Champion", "2009 League Leader in ___(statistic)", "2008 Heisman Trophy Winner", "2008 BCS Champion", "2010 Broke League Record for __", etc.

Going forward, please include sliders to tone down CPU interceptions.

Also, please adjust offensive blocking. Specifically making it more effective, and having the user's offensive line get an appropriate amount of pancakes per game (automatically, as in not needing to use lead blocking). Currently my offensive lineman do not progress properly because they have a pitiful number of pancakes, far from what their rating would indicate. They never make the Pro Bowl. Just please do not regress to 2008 where the problem was the exact opposite and the whole user's offensive line would make the Pro Bowl.

Also, please adjust punt and kick returns. A user should be able to get one or two PR or KR touchdowns a season. Other than doing it on Rookie, I have only returned one for a TD over four or five franchise seasons.

In addition, please include penalties once in a while. It seems like the only ones called in 09 are holding or facemasking. When looking at penalty yards per game, user controlled franchise teams are always right at the bottom of the league, making it unrealistic.

i like EVERYTHING you guys are doing with this....heres my suggestions...make fatigue matter,a big cheese people are using are no huddle offenses the whole game players should be getting hurt or fumbling like crazy....i think the dna thing could be effective by incorporating a players stats in to the dna a player could increase or decrease accordingly....tone down qb running the only qb who ran all the time was vick and he only ran after the pocket collapsed im really HOPING you guys make this game realistic as ever... and also use your ps3 or xbox live feature allow us to buy different presentations say a cbs presentation a fox presentation and the default presentation should be espn also allow us to buy more commentary like different voices, me for one i hate tom hammond id rather have tony siragusa on the field joe buck in the booth with troy aikmen and daryl moose johnson...but yea we should be able to download this online like how you guys incorporated the whole download the oklahoma city stadium and jersey set in your nbalive09 franchise but yea just an idea i thought of goodluck guys i KNOW you guys will do your thing to the best of your ability

  • APOLLO_THE_GREAT said February 10, 2009

oh.. and one more thing i forgot to mention. i noticed that somebody suggested a "throwing on the run" rating in an earlier comment. i say this would be a great idea. not only would this make the game feel more realistic, it would also stop people from rolling away from a sack with a guy like, lets say, peyton manning, and throwing back against the grain across the field and completing a strike. while peyton is a tremendous qb, thats just not something he has in his arsenal. guys like mcnabb, rothlisberger, and romo should be rewarded for having this ability. and this could be counter acted with a "throwing from the pocket" rating which is where those same afore mentioned qbs are not as comfortable. i hope you guys take this into consideration. thanks.

  • Nyrgnew said February 10, 2009

I think a real issue with the entire Madden franchise has been the lack of options for a challenge. Every time you throw the red flag the computer is either looking for going out of bounds or a fumble, there's no spot of the ball or if a pass was caught. The dev team should look at ESPN 2K5 for a good challenge system, that game is almost five years old and has a much better challenge system than any Madden.

  • trugamr12 said February 10, 2009

hey I great work so far, but what I would love to see is how in madden 09 a player would quote "truck" someone that trucking player would almost be invincible and run in a perfectly straight line unlike in real life how he would have to regain his balance and stumble.  Also to that effect how if say you have Chris Johnson going against Brian Urlacher that Johnson would have no problem plowing right through him and still be able to get through 5 more players.  So all in all i would like to she more real life physics in a scene.

  • EA_DonnyMoore said February 10, 2009

shirehobbit - will the player ratings change the 'speed' of the game at all. for example, will a 99 speed in madden 10 look exactly the same as a 99 speed in madden 09 or will that change? I really like the idea of stretching out the ratings, keep it up!

DM - Great question, I do not know the answer to that at the moment.  It is pretty subtle if anything as far as I can tell in my games with the Titans (Chris Johnson) and Bears (Hester).

    Playakev21 said  - Re: Fatigue

DM - You will be happy here Mr. Playa!  Ian, Sean Bailey and Big Mike Scantleberry in Gameplay and myself have spent a lot of hours trying to get this right for 10.  We are focusing primarily on RB's and the impact that RBBC are having in the league.  We are doing this thru tuning the STAMINA rating, another stretched out rating as well as some serious tuning with our gameplay gurus.  In Madden 09, the worst RB stamina would be 75-80 (off top of my head) and the new 'stretched out system' has a low of 40.  So TJ Duckett for instance can go for a play or two (around the goalline if you are smart!) but that is about it. Matt Forte on the other hand in Chicago, he is rated 99 currently in Madden 10 in Stamina (the only back in the league at the moment, we might add another RB at 99, TBD).  You can run him into the ground for the most part, and he is good to go.  Throw to him, whatever, the guy is a machine.  I didn't even mention all of the good stuff we are doing for defensive linemen and stamina...that is position #2 we are targeting.  Bottom line - it is a major focus with this new rating system and our entire gameplay team.

i have a question about the toe tap and drags and maybe more spectacular catches but i also think that there should be goal line stands where defensive players should be able 2 jump on the pile to avoid the ball carrier 2 get through in to the endzone and another thing is when a player dives to reach the pylon, in 09 he cannot be tackled in the air and the game has to be more realistic  they should get new tackles.

P.S I think u guys should add some more templates (examples: spectacular catch route running exct) i think u guys should add a toe tap reciever or specialist. and finnaly i think people should be able to lob the ball in the endzone so there reciever will reach it at its highest point like the fitzgerald touchdown over ike taylor.

If you could add all these things 2 the game i guarantee you the game will get a better rating anyway thinks and goodbye.

It's fine that Donny is reworking the rating system for Madden 10, I just hope that Donny and the other producers do not consider the new rating system to be an astonishing upgrade to Madden 09.  I would like to see more revolutionary upgrades to Madden rather then the subtle upgrades that have hindered Madden's progress over the last five years.  I would like to see the player models improved to almost life like status, I would also like more spectacular catch animations (ala Larry Fitzgerald leaping backwards to snatch the football out of the air with his bear claw like hands) I would love to see DB's intercept the ball and return it to the house with more flare (namely carrying the ball with both hands on it or palming it one handed) I also want to see the wildcat formation added to the playbooks, more bone jarring hits, more animated commentary, trash talking between plays, chin straps that are unbuckled on one side, towels that hang from the hip, and new cleat brands..

  • NoSubs said February 10, 2009

On the topic of ratings, there are specifics that I would really like to get straightened out, including the following:

-What exactly is Toughness? Elusiveness? BCV?

-How is a player impacted by Run Block vs. Run Block Strength vs. Run Block Footwork vs. Impact Blocking? (i.e. if RBS was 0 and the rest were 99 what would happen?)

    - SPC vs. CIT? Hit Power vs. Tackle?

-What is the balance between SPD and ACC? (i.e. If a player had 0 ACC but 99 SPD how long until he reached full speed?)

PS- The instruction book always seems a bit thin, maybe the details on these ratings would be a valuable addition?

  • NoSubs said February 10, 2009

Further to my questions above, how does Awareness affect different players?

Is it true that if you are controlling the player it has no effect?

What does it do for a QB? FB? DT? etc.

  • cpdakcboi06@yahoo.com said February 10, 2009

I hope this new ratings system makes the ratings actually mean something. I hope you made the ratings to where if a certain player has a weakness in a particular rating, it will show in the game. That's all I want as far as that is concerned. On Madden NFL 09, I created a player that was the weakest and scrubiest on the game and he was still making catches and running the ball well. I hope you guys got rid of that as well.

  • Rage-n_Raven said February 10, 2009

First off, I loving your Theory/System on what you will be doing to Madden 10! We/I play Madden for the "Realistic Play" and thats why games like Gane Breaker and NFL Blitz never received any love for me. Anyway, here are a few things that I feel will upgrade Madden 10:

Make Man-to-Man mean something again- To make a long story short, there is no way that a WR like Yamon Figurs for the Ravems be able to dominant Champ Bailey! Make the awareness of a player and Man/Zone coverage really mean something. You shouldn't be able to complete to many out/slant/streak routes on the elite CB's of the world like Bailey,Ashmonga, McAlister, etc....But lets say if it's Terrel Ownes/Fitzgerald(elite) going against one of the elite Cb's, then it should even out sort-to-speak and it should really come down to a player's speed/height,etc....This is not to say that a Non-elite WR can't be a little successful against a elite CB but make it where it rarely happens.....then again, if you have an elite slow CB(Al Harris) going up against a fast non-elite WR(Figurs), if you were to bump-n-run when no safety helping over the top, that Non-elite WR should be able to get seperation from that slow elite CB and vice versa.A slow Elite WR(Derrick Mason) shouldn't be able to beat a Fast non-elite CB(Scott of the Raiders) on a streak route(unless a double move route) but on outs and slants the Elite slow WR should dominate!

Make the size/strength/weight of a player actually mean something-Brandon Jacobs vs Samari Rolle should be a no-contest b/c Samari is a CB, his tackling is low, his strentgh is low,he is only 188 pounds soaking wet going up against a 265 pound RB/FB who's strength is off the charts and his break tackle/trucking is off the charts also!

Give the QB's a Quick realease attribute- Tony Romo vs Byron Leftwich-When Romo's playing pretty good he rarely takes a sack and this is with defenders a arm reach away from him compared to when Leftwhich throws the ball and its like he has to *** back to throw. You can compare it to boxing when a boxer like George Foreman draws back before he swings, yet, Muhammad Ali punches come without drawing back!

THE BEST MADDEN AND NCAA 2010 SUGGESTIONS YOU WILL FIND!!!!!LET ME KNOW IF YOU'D LIKE TO HIRE ME EA...............

1.) THE ABILITY TO MAKE ANY PASS PLAY WITH A RB, A PLAY ACTION PLAY. Basically, PLAY ACTION HOT ROUTE.

2.) WHEN PLAYING AGAINST SOMEONE IN PERSON NOT ONLINE, WHEN THE GAME IS PAUSED, SPLIT THE SCREEN SO BOTH PLAYERS CAN MAKE ADJUSTMENTS

    3. ONLINE, BE ABLE TO SET SCENARIOS FOR EXHIBITION RANKED GAMES (ESPECIALLY IN NCAA) LIKE BOWL GAMES, PLAY-OFF GAMES SUPER BOWL ETC. TIME, WEATHER AND VENUE

4.) NCAA SHOULDN'T BE SO DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT FROM MADDEN, BASICALLY THE SAME GAME WITH A LITTLE LESS DEFENSE. BUT 2009 NCAA WAS WAY TOO "OFFENSIVE". RIDICULOUS!!

5.) REMOVE THAT SLOW STUMBLE THE RB's do on sweeps

6.) GET MORE IN GAME ANNOUNCERS FROM DIFFERENT NETWORKS AND PRESENTATIONS

7.) MORE OUTSIDE THE STADIUM SCENERY

8.) GIVE NCAA THE SAME POST GAME HIGHTLIGHTS AS MADDEN

9.) ON POST GAME HIGHLIGHTS, ALWAYS BE ABLE TO SHOW THE "ACTUAL GAME VIEW FROM WHEN IT HAPPENED ON ANY PLAY, NOT JUST THE 5 they select at the end.

10.) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, ADD SPECTATOR MODE WHERE ONE OR MORE PERSONS COULD LOOK IN ON A GAME THAT IS BEING PLAYED BY TWO OTHER USERS.

11.) KICK RETURNS NEED TO BE EASIER IN MADDEN

12.) BRING BACK OFFENSIVE WR STRAFE OR SQUARE UP TO THE BALL

13.) BRING CO-OP MODE TO ONLINE

14.) DRAW PLAY ACTION IN ALL PLAY BOOKS

15.) OFFER A GLOBAL STYLE PLAY BOOK

16.) OFFER PLAY BOOKS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEARS GAME, LIKE SEATTLE'S WILL PROBABLY BE DIFFERENT BECAUSE MIKE HOLMGREN IS RETIRING. OFFER SEATTLE PLAY BOOK 09' IN THE 2010 GAME AND OTHERS.

ALSO, NCAA FOOTBALL CREW, PLEASE MAKE THE NCAA CHALLENGE AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE NOT JUST STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITIES

I like the change coming to the ratings. I find that in the past maddens if you don't have a speed WR they are aren't as good.

I do have some suggestions as well,

First and foremost, Bring back Formation Shifts and Player Assignments. If you all remembered, formation shifts was a pretty recent addition to madden, about 3 years pass, and it was awesome! It Makes for a realist game, esp for a Manning or Brady player to have... If you don't remember was it does it does this, it lets you change to a certain formation(one of your choosing) but lets you keep the same plays, meaning you can go from ace or I or offset I on the same play but ace as the base formation. Also Player assignment, which it does helps. If someone and a lot of people do moves their #1 wr to slot then it's a missmatch but with player assignments your #1 CB is covering him.

Icing the Kicker should be retuned to actually ice the kicker.

There should be a sense of composure for awareiness, such as close games should be played with ugrency.

fieldgoal blocking should be easier, adding a jump the snap should work it out since you can fake the hike.

special teams should be more in depth, and composeure should play a factor.

Trucking shouldn't just be about breaking on coming tackles, but also breaking out of tackles... So running backs like Brandon Jacobs and WR like Kevin walters yac matches what they do.

Also for the Skills i Feel should be based like the DNA system in NBA LIve.

  • JICEMANN said February 11, 2009

Madden 09 in my opinion took a big step and was a gret game. I would like to see improvement on the running game intuitiveness. The Jukes should be faster. Pass interference was just about non existent. As a quarteback it would be great to be able to control the pass more and lead receivers to that open spot. Or throw to that open spot and let the receiver stop the route and get the ball.  i like the ratings idea to give it a more realistic feel instead of verage player playing like studs.

    Thanks Jicemann

  • fredrinick.barnes@yahoo.com said February 11, 2009

I think you should put franchise mode online this year. Make the gameplay faster, and bring back accelerated clock. The players need to look like they are moving faster. It seems like the field is not wide enough also,on defense I should be able to hit stick a blocking fullback and level him if I time it right and my defender has alot of stength and hitting power. The field should look worse, especially in pittsburg, when it rains.Field degredation should look realistic on grassfields. Weather should change during games not stay the same. Fieldgoals should be harder to make. When you try to fill up the meter it should move faster and it should reset to 0 after it reaches the top of the meter. Or just rework the entire kicking system.I should be able to tell a db that is playing man to man to take away the slant or the out by shading him.

  • fredrinick.barnes@yahoo.com said February 11, 2009

bring spectator mode to online. After a play I should be able to press x and immediatly get back to the play call screen, Not when the game decides to take me there.Franchise online!!!!!franchise online!!!!!The drills that you do on next gen systems are not as fun and fundametally sound as the ones on ps2.Every position need to have drills.need a quicker juke, and i should be able to tell defensive linemen to swim with the right arm or the left or spin right or left.like on ps2.Were are the refs on the field? You should be able to late hit someone even if they are out of bounds. That includes sideline personel and players, coaches, cheerleaders everyone. thanks for letting me vent.

  • carrot1717 said February 11, 2009

WHAT HAPPENED TO FRANCHISE MODE IT WAS HORRIBLE THIS YEAR.FIRST OFF PLAYERS NEVER PROGRESSED RIGHT. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS PRE-DETERMINED WHAT THE FINAL RATING WAS GOING TO BE REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE DID ON THE FIELD (EXAMPLE) JOHN STEWART OF CAR NEVER GOES PAST A 91 I RUSHED FOR 1800+ YARDS IF THAT REALLY HAPPENED YOU BE ALL ON HIS GUN WITH 97 98 RATING. AND ONLY ROOKIES GET BETTER WHAT KERRY RHODES CANT GET ANY BETTER AND IF THE DO MARCELLUS HIT A 99 THEN THERE DONE THEY SHOULD STILL PROGRESS FURTHER.  AND ON THE FLIP SIDE PLAYER NEVER GET WORSE WITH AGE I SEEN A BRIAN WESTBROOK AND 35 WITH HIS SPEED STILL A 97. U USED TO DO THIS WHAT HAPPENED.FREE AGENCY THAT A JOKE ITS THE SAME CRAP PLAYERS YEAR I AND YEAR OUT, AND IF SOMEONE IS THERE THERE LIKE 38.WHAT PLAYERS NEVER WANT TO LEAVE THERE TEAM IN MADDEN? EVERYONE'S HAPPY? AND IF THERE IS A GOOD PLAYER THE NEVER GET PICKED UP (EXAMPLE LAMER WOODLEY WAS THER FOR 3 YEARS) NO TEAM IN THE LEAGUE WANTED HIM!? NEXT THE DRAFT WHAT A WASTE OF THE THAT IS IF THE THEY DONT GO IN THE TOP TEN THEY SUCK.AND EVERY PLAYER INJURY RATING IS LIKE 47.YOU NEVER FIND ANY TALENT IN LATER ROUNDS WHERE ARE THE BRANDON MARSHELL'S , TOM BRADYS, AND BRIAN WESTBROOKS? EVERY PLAY AFTER THE 3RD ROUND IS 66 OR LOWER BUT IN THE GAME CHRIS HORTEN IS AN 80 OVL COMING OUT OF THE 7TH.MAKES NO SENCES.AND HOW COME THERE ARE NO COMPUTER GENERATED TRADES I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE OF THEM IN 10 YEARS! I DONT WANT TO COME SOUND LIKE I HATE THEM GAME I LOVE IT I LOVING PLAYING IT AND TURN TEAMS AROUND IN FRANCHISE MODE I MY FAVORITE THING BUT PLEASE MAKE IT BETTER.

  • mnickles83 said February 11, 2009

THERE SHOULD BE WAY TO HIT A BUTTON ON YOUR PLAY CALL SCREEN THAT SUB OUT YOUR HB ON ALL FORMATION SO YOU CAN CHANGE IT QUICK THEN HAVEN TO GO IN MANUALLY ON EVERY FORMATION. LIKE CIRCLE OR SOMTHING

  • mnickles83 said February 11, 2009

IN FRANCHISE MODE YOU SHOULD HAVE MORE CONTROL OVER WHAT TIME OF TEAM IT IS. LIKE A SMASH MOUTH RUNNING TEAM OR AIR IT OUT. AND WHAT TYPE OF PLAYERS THEIR ARE LIKE QB SHOULD HE BE A DINK AND DUNK OR STRETCH THE FIELD THIS WAY YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE YOUR GAME PLAN FOR YOUR TEAM STRENGTH NOT JUST A % OF RUN VS PASS SPEED OR POWER (EXAMPLE IF PUT BRANDON JACOBS ON THE I EAGLES I WOULD WANT TO POUND  IT ON THE GOAL LINE RATHER THEN THROW)

  • SOULTRAIN89 said February 11, 2009

I agree with a lot of these guys comments. Ive seen some great ideas.

One thing I would like to see is more of a difference in highlighting a player. It almost seems as if it is completely ineffective. I would like to see maybe a more apparent double coverage. I understand if you highlight fitz it would barely matter but mid top rate recievers like Brandon Marshall, if highlighted should not be getting passed to so easily. Same goes for running plays and throws to players like tight ends and running backs. I think that the highlight option should have more of an effect. When its 1 and goal I think that it should be easier to make the option of blitzing every single player. Not that you cant do this already in 09, I think that it should just be made easier. I understand that that could possibly make the game at 1 and goal slightly easier but at the same time, thats the NFL. It is way to easy as of now to get into the end zone and this is not the case in real life. I cant tell you how many times I have just run up the side of my O line with Darren McFadden for a TD. Im a diehard Raiders fan but Ill admit, getting into the end zone with the Oakland Raiders should not be that easy. Plus this would make the game harder and teams defensively will have to predict and account for the fake run and pass off to the TE.

Another area that requires much help is the Defense AI. I understand you guys have a lot of work on your hands and this *** isnt easy and we take for granted the AI that exists but, the AI is not up to par with the rest of the game. For example, I have seen many instances where Ill be playing defense and all of a sudden the QB will bullet a pass to a wide open receiver and Nnamdi Asamougha (one of the best shutdown corners) is just standing ten feet off of the wide out. This is a problem that must be fixed because wide receivers dont just burn corners like that.

Another problem with defense is the secondary coverage. I understand that when you have a zone coverage defensive play, the secondary is responsible for that zone. However, when the teams line up, and you have two wide outs on the right side and none on the left, there should be an automatic adjustment where the corner on the left is still hanging out on the left side and that second receiver on the right is being outmatched by a slower linebacker or safety.

Not as serious of a problem as the others but, one thing that is seriously annoying is in scouting, where you are scouting players and after every time you scout a player, you have to re-sort them by potential. This can get rather annoying when doing in depth scouting. If you guys could just find a way to keep it sorted, that would be awesome.

One thing that I find to be rather troublesome is the fact that you can have a terrific year with a player and the next year have little to no progression as far as ratings go and sometimes the ratings will go down. For example, I trained Jamarcus Russel a lot and got his accuracy much higher and had a pretty good season with him and his rating went down and his accuracy went back down. I believe that if, in a franchise you have a good year with a QB, the next year his rating should go up, the same way Matt Cassel's rating will go up due to his good season. Statistics should greatly affect a players progression for the next season.

also: for this website you should add a little   "agree"  marker by each comment, and so that every person who agrees with that comment, then they can click it and it will add up. That way you will know which comments are most agreed with, thus making it evident which ones are the most important comments

  • Aztec77 said February 11, 2009

Add a feature in the game where a QB loses accuracy on his throw if goes back to far.Because no QB can drop back 10-15 yards and throw an accurate pass.Remove the rocket catch the game because it doesn't make the game a challenge anymore.I've played people that do the rocket catch that think there are good at madden and that's the only thing they know how to do.It cheapens the fun of the game if you can't take it out of the game ban it from the madden challenge. Also if you can't remove it make to where you if a WR is running out you make him finish his route not break it and just turn around and catch it every time.

  • Aztec77 said February 11, 2009

Add the feature from NCAA 09 where if a QB gets sacked too many times that his timing is off. Fix the challenge feature so if you are try to challenging a play the person you playing can't call a time out. I had someone do that to me before I was about the challenge the play and he called a time out and I couldn't challenge the play anymore.

    KICK/PUNT RETURN ABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

special teams is arguably the most exciting and unpredictable part of the game.  Having your fastest and most elusive little man reading blocks, performing spins, jukes, and hurdles, and navigating him through the whole opposing team is probably the most thrilling and wide open part of the game.  Madden 08 had the players actually spread out in different lanes, had blockers holding there blocks and actually coming back for more pancakes. Madden 09 had none of this.  It was sooooo unexciting to return a kick/punt. Everyone took a perfect pursuit angle to the ball, and at the end of the play there was ALWAYS 2-5 guys from my own team 50 yards downfield just running, with no one to block in sight. WHAT ARE THEY DOING!!????

I got so frustrated that i stopped playing and picked up 08 just so i could have that thrill.  Theres no real in-depth strategy or gameplan, its all reaction and seeing the field and making things happen, this is where real football plays are made, not just x's and o's preplay of reading the defense. ITS JUST LIKE REAL LIFE

It got so bad that i chose the bears and put them in practice. I had the best returner in the game and just had him return punts. return left/right/middle/block punt/block punt return... all of the types.  I placed the ball at a bunch of random spots on the field.  It took me 1 1/2 hours to return one for a touchdown. The field was completely brown from all the running that had occurred on it. This was on PRO difficulty, i normally play between all pro and madden.  I only scored it because Hester had 100 speed and i just kept running him back and forth the length of the field into my own endzone and then turned it all the way up field for 109 yards, which SHOULD NOT be the only way you can score a punt return.

Its not like i am bad at madden either, in 08 i return at least once every 2 or 3 games on ALL PRO.  PLEASE FIX THIS.  Its VERY exciting in ncaa 08, and 09 its very good as well.

Special Teams change the game. they are 1/3 of the game. the return ability needs to be realistic/exciting once again.

O and fix the facemasks, half the skilled players in the game either have the wrong facemask or have the correct one and have a visor of some sort, when they dont even wear a visor in the first place

    thank you for your time

I play Madden for the competition.  Outwitting and outplaying the opponent.  With that being said, can you address what is happening with online franchise capabilities?  I could really care less if the player's have towels on their belt or if you have different colored wrist bands to put on players.  I want to be able to play against another HUMAN using a team that I built through a draft, trades, free agent pickups, etc...  Everyone can master playing against the computer over time but playing against another person that experience can be ever changing.  Give us total control of a 32 team online franchise and the popularity of Madden will continue to soar.

Is EA developing an online franchise or are we just waisting our money on games with the only different thing being towels added to the players?

  • Mista Wiggles said February 11, 2009

I like the idea of the more spread out rating, and I believe you should continue to focus on the gameplay rather than what cleats the players are wearing. Though playing a good looking game makes the experience better.

    A couple of suggestions:

Bring back some of the oldgen controls that were on madden 07 for the xbox like the cut buttons (possibly using RB/LB on the 360 and R1/L1 on the PS3).

The juke stick could be upgraded a bit like if you don't push it all the way to the left/right the ball carrier doesn't full commit, just making the move in a smaller space; or you can fake left and go right and vice versa (I believe they had something like this in NCAA).

For the ratings (specifically speed): Mold it to the individual player, not to the position. There are linebackers that can run like recievers and defensive ends that can run like running backs.

And I think the greatest thing you could do for madden is take a page out of the NHL crew's book and introduce the Online Madden Football League. Where you have your own players and you make teams. This would probably have to involve more out of game strategy than the EA Sports Hockey League, with positions and such; this would also require each person on the team to have multiple players at different positions for different positions and offense/defence, unless you made it where each player could be molded for multiple positions. Probably would work best as 6 people per team (let's face it not many people want to be playing OLine, though this could give a basis for making the manual blocking in this mode more in depth). I just think this would be great because the EA Sports Hockey League is one of the funnest thing in sports video games and Madden is the most fun sports games (mixing 2 great things can turn out pretty good, ya know?).

  • FRANCUA said February 11, 2009

since we are affecting the ratings how about actually having fatigue take place with the offense and defense to where there will be a steady rotation of second an 3rd string guys in the game. i mean starters do not play every single down especially when your defense has been on the field for a long time. and this would also make haveing a 2 back set more realistic and please bring back the accelerated clock that was a good feature to have as well. and what about bringing back the roles like back in 05... and how bout adding all the stat values that head coach has that helps evaluate players better and lets have the morale issue actually mean something thats all i got for right now but thank you guys for all the early info on the game and am lookin forward to see whats comein up next

Make different player personal  packages for all the formation. So if you have a SS with a 40 man cover it easier to swap players in and out. The Triangle button takes to long you only have 12 seconds! Or be able to set substitutions and packages BEFORE THE GAME.

  • mnickles83 said February 11, 2009

Make the franchise mode smarter. CPU teams never get any better its like Matt Millen runes all the teams. They draft of what they need not what the have go 3 or 4 years deep some teams draft a QB in the first round just because they have no back. (example) the Saints and Ravens always take a  QB in the first. I posted a blog early about the Francine mode it really fallen off. I never had the stomach to TAKE it past the 6th year. Its EXTREMELY FLAT AND BORING. From the draft to scouting players its a worthless waste of time. Please fix it.

So will there be any changes on stopping the unbeliveable catches by tall recievers who never drop a pass.

  • FRANCUA said February 11, 2009

what happend to the reciever's being able to do jump balls in the endzone that was one of the best things that madden 09 had you guys should defintly bring that back... another thing too we should see mediocre offensive lineman struggle with the real good dlinemen like peppers and jared allen and freeny those guys all play on another level and you sometimes see the real elite lineman have problems with guys like that too...

please give us better presentation too. if they could do stuff like bring other highlights from other games in the franchises why hasnt it been done on next gen yet?? you guys have the espn liscense as well i thought so how bout gettin some of these guys involved bring in guys like boomer and tom jackson for the highlights and bring in guys like kiper and mcshay for the draft all of these things would help the game tremendously and make it feel more like an nfl expierence...

as far as franchise depth is concerned head coach is so far ahead of madden its ridiculous and head coach only has one year under its belt i was happy to see that you guys brought over looman to help out with the franchise but its amazing that i would still rather play madden 05's franchise mode for reg xbox then play it on 360 i hope things get alot better now that looman is running the franchise portion of the game

  • MattVegas55 said February 11, 2009

There is one big thing I want to change in Madden. When a QB throws the ball directly at a defender in what universe does that defender ever jump forward with one arm in the air like Micheal Jordan and swat the ball out of the air. Maybe if its 4th down.....maybe. At least have him try to catch the ball. I know I can just turn into the player and try to catch the ball myself but when I'm blitzing or worrying about something else on the field its a little difficult. Please work on this issue or give me a good reason why Lebron James is batting balls out of the air on a football field.

  • IndyColts2 said February 11, 2009

It's great that you guys are increasing the range of players in Madden. It will show a big difference in the way each player plays, but, only if each rating actually has an effect on the player. What I mean is, in NCAA 09 i created my player as a cornerback and when I got to the man and zone coverage ratings, they were completely ineffective. I don't know if this is the case for Madden as well, but they didn't change my players' overall rating at all. Being a corner in school myself I definetely know that you HAVE to be good at either one of those ratings in order to play. There is no way that the two biggest attributes needed to play corner are completely useless. And no I didn't make my guy a 99ovr, and then tried it. I like to make my guy atleast an 84 or above. In this case, he was an 86ovr, and I literally changed man and zone coverage from 0-99 and absolutely nothing happened.

If this is the case for some of the other new ratings you guys put in a few years ago it needs to be fixed and implemented into the game. For all I know, the run and pass blocking and run and pass footwork could be the same. Just make sure that the ratings make a difference in the players performance, and make sure that it actually works and affects the overall ratings.

  • IndyColts2 said February 11, 2009

Also Donny, you guys have gotten the idea that stamina and fatigue only apply play by play. You guys don't understand that it also applies in each and every play that a player is on the field. Having good stamina doesn't only mean that you can carry the ball 5 straight times, or you can go out for a deep pass 3 straight times. It means that you shouldn't be able to run FULL SPEED all around the field in a single play WITHOUT decreasing in max speed. Players shouldn't be able to be at a dead sprint for an entire play, unless it is a normal amount of time.

What I am trying to say is, in practice (offense only), say a running back has a 99 in stamina and speed. I hand the ball off to him and at full sprint speed he jets forward. He runs for 40 yards without showing a hint of slowing down, then he cuts backwards and runs 60 yards backwards at the exact same speed. In this Madden and NCAA and nearly everyone before is like this, they don't get tired in the middle of the play. With that running back, with a 99 in stamina and speed, if I run untouched in a game 90 yards, I understand that he wouldn't really lose a step. But, when that same running back has to break 3 tackles, and then burn the defenders full speed for another 60 yards, there is a problem.

It's hard to explain, but a 99rated stamina back should be able to run top speed for longer than a 98 or 87 or 76 and so on. With each step a player takes at full speed, he should gradually get slower during the play. And when that player is hit, he should lose most of that speed.

This madden should be really good you guys should fix up superstar mode it isnt really that good to me it needs somthing like when you have a special game you an your player can walk out the stadium tunnel an like you can walk around the field an locker room like when your player isnt in you can stay on the sideline with your player an you should be able to buy a new pads an etc. an like play with more fun

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said February 11, 2009

OK, here's some stuff I think should be there(and I want others to comment on it)

DB speed. I get so irritated when Antonio Cromartie picks off a pass and a big O-Lineman closes in on me, with world class speed.

Running Animations. The players run straight forward, i think if they were running while looking in a general area or player, it would improve on cutting and falling forward rather than backwards(small, but i think importnt)

Also, the DB animations. Why do they break so many tackles??? my lineman should crush a DB, but he gets trucked instead; and if i pick a pass with someone like Ed Reed, i should get adequate blocking.

The RBCs(Running Backs By Committee) Why arent they used? The titans should utilize "smash n dash" or, for instance, a team like and updated bengals, with several avg joes like cedric benson and watson and perry, should all split carries(at least in Franchise mode) And, if this is used, give the computer teams enough sense to switch to a feature back if the opportunity arises, like a fred taylor leaving or retiring, or a rookie like slaton or Forte having a breakout year.

Franchise performance: I was pissed when i saw thet Jamall Charles had 1500+ rushing yards and made it to the Pro Bowl over LT(wtf?) the stats were supposed to be more realistic, but come on: how many chances would jamall have gotten, if the team wasnt good?

gampeplay clocks. why do the play clocks start at 40? it should be like 30 or 25. and when the play is over, it doesnt start.

penalties. i completely forgot penalties were even a part of football until i got a facemask penalty....

catching animations. theyre all the same, or it seemed like it. ive seen two amazing catches since ive been playing. thet was when it came out.

Supertar Mode. this was very boring. the offseason workouts wrer ok, but i didnt feel like i got better. shouldve kept the apartment feature.

This is one thing that bugs me: The draft. Ok, if the Lions have the #1 pick, i can understand a QB being taken, but why was an entire frst round focuse on QBs. I mean, eeven the colts and pats took QBs, after great seasons. No realism in the draft. The vikings shouldnt be taking a first round RB. and for those who might not be able to import a draft, why not have it available online, or make better draft players on the game. why does a 250 pound running back have a 96 spd and a 70 break takle rating???? and a 180 pd backs spd would be a 87, with a 99 break takle.

QB elusiveness, or the Roethlisberger rating. I should have a chance to get away from pressure.

better free agency process. if i play with a "rebuilding" team, i cant even compete to sign players. add standards to a player(with diversity) such as,"has family in Chicago", or California s hometown state. this means he should be more attracted to Chicago becuz of family, or Cal because of his birth.

progressive stamina. if devin hester runs a streak at 100 speed, he shoudnt run it at 100 again, especially on a no huddle drive. it should drop to 95, 93, 91, etc.

an enhances weapon rating. if, say i played to superbowl, and fitz was known for making big playes on a huge moment, his stats should go up for that situation, like at the endzone if i was to throw a fade, hands or jumping.

better deep ball. impossible to throw a streak to anyone, even hester. he should burn a safety like roy williams, but no one burns anyone in 09.

ESPN. you guys were teamed up with them this year(i think) why not give us a report, (such as trade rumors or pro bowl announcements) and reactions to these announcements(i believe nba 2k9 had sumthing like this) for every week.

team need specificalities. if a team lieke the colts had reggie wayne, a possession receiver, but they wanted to acquire a "burner" like devin hester, then should pursue a burner in FA or trade, or draft/wait for a burner rather than draft that possession guy

and swansanity brought up this, but the special teams game. how can i achieve an achievement of two kick or punt returns in a game if, on KR, half of my blockers are running to the tunnels, or on PR, my blockers are blocking on the left side when im running to the right.

and trick plays. reverses, things of that nature.

This is lenghty, i know, and there are things that may never get brought up at EA, but if enuf people support and respond, madden may be a better game from the fan standpoint.

also, the cpu players inadvertenly running out of bounds should be fixed, and evey team should have a variation of the wildcat, depending on how they ran it, thus player like ronie brown or darren mcfadden should have adequate passer ratings.

    Thanks, and support!!!

    1. make the franchise mode similar to NFL Head Coaches mode. Meaning different ratings for different systems. Also make free agency a bidding process. its to easy to rebuild a team in the franchise mode in one year.

2.The o-line and d-line play should be more important. If i play wit the Giants/Vikings d-line versus a team with a weak o-line the offense should have a tough time with my front four, therefore lowering completion percentage(robo qb is gone) and making gameplay balanced(if user o-line is weak playing a strong d-line)

3.Weight-Size should matter in the ratings. guys like pat williams and shaun rogers should really have a impact in the game.

    4. better play calling in every mode. teams should play like there real life counter-parts.

    5. better coverage by the defense. crossing routes are impossible to stop.

    6. coaching staff should have a impact in franchise mode.

    7. Gm should have a role in trades and player interest.

    8. fatigue and weather should have a factor.

    9. blitzing should be more effective.

    10. make the game harder but fair. have scouting reports that exactly mean something. like if i play the patriots i should worry about the deep ball. if i play minnesota i should focus on stopping the run.

    11. Draft needs to be fixed, the reports don't match the actual ratings.

the draft should make or break a team like in real life.

Rookies need to progress like they do in real life.  Example a rookie QB thrown to the wolves would struggle whereas a rookie running back can come right in and do well.  I also think the ratings should decline as players get older or after they come back from an injury. I think ratings should increase based on playing time instead of drills every week.  I like the drills but I think the drills should be used for training camp.

  • cowboys9366 said February 12, 2009

Strange I'm asking for this as a Cowboys's fan but make team chemistry affect ratings.  Give players attitudes (TO) that can help or destroy a team.  Also have leaders such as Ray Lewis make an entire Defense better by leadership.

WHO IS GOIN TO BE IN THE COVER

  • dylandutra said February 12, 2009

You have no idea how happy I am to read that tidbit about player progression and rookies at the bottom. That is my biggest concern for 10.

  • dylandutra said February 12, 2009

Not sure the chances of you reading this but PLEASE DO.

Some huge things to consider in Madden NFL 10 that you might be already:

***NFL Draft - It was bad in Madden NFL 09. From player ratings (generated and NCAA import, though I liked the hit or miss aspect of NCAA importing) to the obscene amount of QBs taken in the first round. It didn't work. This NEEDS to be address for the franchise players like myself.

***Player Progression - You basically just said it there, so no worries really. Bigger gains and losses between seasons (and more players changing, and make it more based on past performance than what the engine feels like). Past-gen progression rocked, especially with the during-the-season progression. Bring that to current-gen.

***Simulated Stats - I love the effort made to fix it in 09, and it's much better than it was in 08. It's still not perfect though. Passing yards, receiving yards and tackles all need to go up. Also, when manually playing all my team's games I would find my offensive linemen to have very little pancakes and therefore never make the pro-bowl or progress well. Please fix offensive linemen stats.

    Thanks for your time,

    Dylan Dutra

  • DraftySamuel said February 12, 2009

i have a great suggestion if you guys could do this it would be awesome lets please get rid of the play by play talk of tom hammond and chris collinsworth instead try to get every radio play by play and commentary for every nfl team the two best i ever heard on the radio were the bucs and the colts now if you get that and then have john madden talking about the game at half time and showing other games at halftime during the season it will really be something great and please dont make tony romo a great qb be realistic hes not that great just ask the eagles

  • Pats12TO81 said February 12, 2009

be able to watch a sportscenter or nfl network show after each week in franchise mode that shows highlights from each game that week and talk about free agents and injuries. maybe have top ten plays of the week also. i know 2k5 had something like this and it was really cool

  • Pats12TO81 said February 12, 2009

i think there should be more logos for creating a team. also when picking a stadium to play in u should be able to pick the superbowl stadium. being able to play with the pro bowl teams in exibition mode would be nice too. It would also be nice to make a custom soundtrack so u can put your own music in the game.maybe u can decide what music u want to play when u score a touchdown or get a sack

  • Pats12TO81 said February 12, 2009

defensive backs are way too slow after they intercept the ball. i intercept the ball with delta oneal with 96 speed and a great kick returner, but he was slower than the offensive linemen chasing him

  • Pats12TO81 said February 12, 2009

adding team chemistry would be great so cowboys arent the best team

  • CAMREN630 said February 12, 2009

two great points pats12to81.team chemistry should base a teams overall and not the individual players and im tired of picking off a pass and getting ran down by a dam lineman no way that should happen i mean maybe once in a blue but it happens way to often.one more thing when a player gets hurt and comes back in the game he should show some signs of still being hurt and not come right back in 100 percent all the time this would add more realism to the game.nba 2k for example if you put a player back in after he was hurt he would show signs of being hurt and not be as effective.why are yall so dam far behind 2k sports?you guys been in buisness way longer and this is not excusable.

show us yall have the license because yall make the best games and not cause yall have the most money.

  • jasenklimek said February 12, 2009

Finally i can say what i need to about the game.  Im an average madden player but an indepth football watcher (if that makes sense).  Anyhow, i agree with you and i really wanna see more of the player simularities come out in the game I.E. larry fitzgerald making more dynamic plays, AP busting a hug run for a td, or even ed reeds interception for a td witch he seems to get almost every game.  i wanna see more sideline catches.  it almost never happens in a game. like in the superbowl holmes catchs that td on the sideline. you will never see that play in madden. anoter pet peevee is blocking. i wanna see more lineman skills. focus on the linemen more.  i see great blocks thrown every game.  but the lineman blocking in the game needs some seroius work.  i also wanna see more team spacific plays like the wildcat formation.  or team spacific plays.  Like the shovel pass to norwood that atlanta likes to do.  i would like the defense to be more realistic in the fact that you may be able to lul them to sleep.  if you have the vikings and you pound the run with ap a dozen times for small gains just enough to get first downs... your chances of the defense over persuing the run and you being able to go over the top to bernard berrian should increase like ten full.  Trick plays would be nice.  maybe the ability to make your own plays to save the trouble of haveing to put in team specific plays and formations.  i wanna see a wider superstarmode, franchise mode etc.  the game could be way bigger in every aspect.  with all that said i still love the game.  also keep the madden moments...i like that, reliving the greatest plays and times in nfl history is a great idea.

  • Jacobs71 said February 12, 2009

My biggest issues with the franchise modes are this.

    1. Let me import the draft at the end of the year after the pro bowl like old maddens. It is the ultimate pain when I have to re-simulate each game to get accurate records just so I can change my draft class to the current players.

    2. When you import draft classes from NCAA. The players are either 92, 80 or 64.  No rookie in my book is better then a 80 and no worse then a 70.

    3. I want madden to focus more on system type players in free agency. What type of players fit your system? Is the offense power run game which needs 320lb linemen who can maul defenders? Or is your offense a finesse offense like *** vermeil's rams and chiefs that need athletic offensive linemen. Alot of the patriots defensive linebackers are awesome in a 3-4 but they would be horrible in a 4-3.  Freeney is amazing in a cover 2 system but if you put him in a 3-4 system at DE, he would get worked over all day long.  I want players ratings to reflect the systems run.  There are only certain players who can play in any system.  Priest Holmes prime example. He was horrible in the ravens power running game that jamal lewis excelled in. Then priest comes to a finesse offense like the chiefs who run draws, tosses, hb screens and misdirection and priest leads the league in touchdowns.  I want free agency boards/player ratings to be individually based on their system.

    4. I would love to see you add general managers to the franchise mode. So it can reflect the scouting for both current nfl players and college players.  Scott Pioli of the chiefs will probably be able to find gems in the 5th or 6th round that other teams can't.  While the lions continue to struggle because they have poor upper management.

    5. I would love for all current nfl position coaches to be available. In fact I would like to hire an entire coaching staff. That way it can help each position progress or hurt.  So it expands from just HC,OC,DC and ST to 12 coaches.  And it would help make up for teams that hire position coaches for future frachises. See Tom Cable.

    6. Madden should also allow of firing a coach in mid season and hiring an interim head coach it teams are doing horribly. Which was put on display by both the rams and the raiders this season.

    7. Create a Coach- Say I want to create myself as a head coach and work my way up the ranks in the nfl.  You should obviously set caps are certain ratings for a coach.  But allow me to have an awesome work ethic if I want to climb the ladder.  It could also help with those college coaches that get hide, or coaches out of retirement. For example if you had create a coach and bill cowher came out of retirement this off season you are one step ahead.

    8. I would love to an add on to the ratings. I would love for play recognition to account for wide receivers, quarterbacks, offensive lineman and running backs as well. How well they recognize a play can help them pick up the blitz, or find the opening in a defense before the snap.  The quarterback needing good foot work skills to be a more accurate passer, or how good a release he has with the ball.

Sounds like the need to dumb down Chris Johnson's Agility. Maybe adding a second acceleration to separate the Straight line bullets- Johnson, Moss, McFadden, from the second cut guys- Peterson, Addai, Forte.  This would also be benificial for pass rushers vs large OT's.  It was really hard to get a sack or add pressure in 09 comming off the edge.

Another thing I'd like to see is a distaction rating- Players like TO, Chad Johnson would effect the team morale if they are losing in a negative way. Most players would be a 40. This rating would build up over the coarse of a season or game. A player with a rating over 80 would negatively effect the teammates on his side of the ball. Over 90 effects the whole team.

  • SteelPride1933 said February 12, 2009

I have been waiting a LONG time to be able to do this. Actually express my wishes about madden - that is. I've been playing heavily for the last 10 years or so, and every year it gets better, however every year I wish for a few things that just DON'T SEEM TO BE HARD TO MAKE. Now, of course someone like me, with no sort of game development knowledge could easily say these things wouldn't be that hard to make and I could be way off the mark... I don't know. But I DO know that Madden and everyone who plays it would appreciate these few adjustments.

MAKE IT MORE REAL - The whole experience! Going to a bar and watching a football game on Sunday is exciting. Seeing it on TV makes me want to be there. Madden should do the same thing. Make the games bigger, louder! Make the fans wilder! (Terrible Towels, maybe?)Capture that excitement that explodes at every single game that is played throughout the season! Adding a few more characters on the sidelines would help! The security dudes in 09 was a start, but come on... we've all seen how crowded the field is all the way around at pretty much every game. Cheerleaders! Make cheerleaders get involved! Make them dance like they do at a game! So what if you have to bump it up to a "T" rating!? It makes it more real! I miss the player introductions at the beginning of every game. I thought that was awesome. It just feels like, even though Madden 09 has been the best so far... it feels like you guys just kind of forgot a few things about what makes football, well... FOOTBALL.

THE WAY PLAYERS LOOK - This is getting better and better every year. But there's still some room for improvement that would make this game make people say "H*ly Sh*t, am I watching TV right now??" Subtle, small things that players have in real life. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I sincerely enjoy it when my PS3 game is as close to real life as possible. The apparel on these characters is what I'm talking about. Okay, so you made a few players on our teams wear long sleeves under their jersey. And a few of our players have black or white tape wrapped around their ankles. But look at a real life NFL team. These guys rock team color shoes, (and this used to be available in previous Maddens... WHAT HAPPENED?) short sleeve under armour muscle tee's underneath their jersey (Tom Brady wears one A LOT, so did Matt Ryan this year), neck protectors like the one James Farrior just recently started wearing and that guy Samuels on the Redskins O-Line wears. You could make the Revolution helmet a little more realistic by not having the facemask sticking out a foot and half away from the players face. And in those cold, COOOLLLD NFL games, players get bundled up man! A lot of the players wear that skin tight hood thing underneath their helmets, or full-faced ninja mask looking things! And almost everyone on the field in a cold game is wearing those hand warmer fanny pack things around their waist! Would it be hard to make our QB's, WR's, DB's and TE's wear those in a cold-weather game in Madden? Another way you could make the players start to "come to life" a little better is by putting a little more effort into how they really look. I'm glad to see you're making them have attitudes... but I'd prefer more realistic looking players before we start worrying about their facial expressions. Everyone knows who number 43 is on the Steelers because of his hair. People in row ZZZ of the nosebleed section at Heinz Field could see that hair from all the way up top. HE NEVER TIES IT BACK LIKE IT IS IN 2009. NEVER NEVER NEVER. Make Troy have a TON of hair, like in real life. Same with Chris Johnson. Same with Peko's orange hair on the Bengals' D-Line. I love watching Troy Polamalu's hair tackle people! I want to see it in Madden, guys. Also, and this is just something I've noticed... when I'm in my franchise mode, and I go in to edit my players' appearances, the "Team Color" option, you know... for like the color of our players' gloves, the color of the wristbands, etc... it's black. It should be that bright, Pittsburgh Steeler yellow. Lol... I know, I'm getting picky... but I'm obsessed with details. But it feels like some details are being left out! Tattoos is another miniscule detail! But what happened to players having tattoos???

SACKS - What in Gods name happened to sacks!?!? Is it just me?? Am I just pathetic at calling good pass rush plays?? I highly doubt it, since all of my friends agree with me. James Harrison and Lamaar Woodley are ANIMALS, but in Madden 09, neither of them can seem to get to QB like they do in real life! Those guys are relentless! Why are they so easily blocked in Madden? I feel like if I'm ending the game with 2 sacks I've been showered with luck, guys!! It should NOT be like this! Defenses like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Dallas... they get SACKS. But in Madden, they're few and far between. It feels like the O-Lines are impenetrable. This is something that should see some attention if you want to make this game as real as possible.

TEAMMATES ON THE SIDELINES - Do I even really have to say anything? They look like they belong in Nintendo 64. Why do they all seem to clap and cheer unanimously? And if they're not doing that, they're just kneeling down, staring off into the distance. It's kind of comedic. At a real life game, their up... paying attention, following the team down the sidelines... getting involved. Would that be hard to capture in Madden?

SUPERSTAR MODE - This has REAALLLY taken a step backward in my opinion. It seemed like it was getting better a few years ago on PS2, but now it's just kind of lame, guys. I feel like I'm wasting time when I play in Superstar mode. I want Superstar mode to show me what life is REALLY like for an NFL football player, from his rookie days all the way to the day he retires. I want money to spend, cars, houses, etc. I want him to sign autographs after practice, and have the ability to live a life outside of football. THAT would be an impressive addition to your game. To OUR game.

THE SUPERBOWL - This is something I've been waiting for, and waiting for, and waiting for... and nothing ever seems to happen. The Superbowl is really just another game for us. Okay, so there's a quick 8 second clip of our team frolicking around the field after they win. That's it? That's NOT it, guys. It should be an ENTIRELY different game all together. A different introduction, more fireworks, more glitz and glam. Show the planes flying over the stadium, have someone sing the National Anthem... SOMETHING... ANYTHING to set this game apart. It is totally just another game, other than hearing Chris Collinsworth (who I think should never be allowed to commentate in Madden again, as I can BARELY stand that guy as it is)say "Everything's bigger, everythings brighter." We work through every game of the season to get to that game, just like the pros work through every game to get to that one, final, HUGE game. There needs to be some attention to this. It needs to happen in Madden 10. Your loyal gamers deserve a better Superbowl experience. After all, it's what football is really about, right? Winning that Lombardi Trophy? Why can't we see our coach holding up that trophy on the proudest day of his career? Why can't we see the agony of defeat on the other team, besides the ONE PLAYER we see droop his head? The Superbowl is the ONE GAME that we all look forward to the most, but I feel I've been let down, year after year, when I finally get my franchise to the Superbowl.

PLAYER MODELS - I think you guys took a GIANT step in the right direction last year with the new player models, although there are a few suggestions I have that would make me appreciate Madden so much more. I really like how running backs look more like running backs, and O-Line guys look more like O-Line guys, but one model I'm a little disappointed in is the Linebacker model. They kind of look silly. It looks like their wearing shoulder pads 10 times too big for them. And if they have their jersey tucked into their pads they just look downright fake. A few specific players need some attention, too. Willie Parker does NOT have the body of Willie Parker. Willie is a small 205 pound running back. But in the game he looks kind of like Lendale White. Hines Ward is not as scrawny as the game makes him look. Larry Fitzgerald, Terrell Owens and Brandon Marshall should be bigger than they are in the game, because in real life these guys are HUGE and are a terror to try to take down. Roethlisberger could be a big huskier, as well as the other large QB's in the game (McNabb, JaMarcus Russell, etc.)

TOUCHDOWN CELEBRATIONS - I feel like my team doesn't really care if I score a touchdown. At a real game, the whole team, on field and on the sideline erupts! Why hasn't anyone had the idea to make a bigger touchdown experience? Why do the fans only get up after our receiver crosses the goal line? If I'm on offense playing from my own 10 yard line and I hit Santonio Holmes for a 15 yard slant route, he breaks a tackle and no one is near him, why don't the fans start screaming THEN? If a receiver has a clear 75 yard shot to the endzone in real life, the crowd doesn't wait patiently until the play is over to start screaming! Again, I'm picky... and I pay attention to detail... but I think these are all things that serious Madden fans like myself would appreciate.

COMMENTATORS - I'm SOOO glad you guys actually put commentators in this past years Madden. I thought that AM Radio announcer from before was going to drive me to shoot myself. Is there a way you could expand on the announcers though? Maybe get a few more guys, so we don't have to hear the same two guys saying the same phrases game in and game out. Maybe have like 4 sets of commentators that rotate randomly from game to game?

I know this list is getting quite extensive, and probably everyone has stopped reading by now. Believe it or not, I still have some more ideas for Madden, but I feel like I've said enough. I want you guys to know that you create my favorite game every year. I will play Madden for the rest of my life. I just hope that someday these details that I look for are things that I can actually find in my favorite game. If anyone would like to talk more about this, email me at WLChaffin@hotmail.com. MADDEN RULES (but it can always get better).

Hey madden nation i think in madden 10 should have the real time ticker pop up in the game when your playing sometimes. Also when the players catch the ball they should try to keep there feet in better then they do in 09. Like Holmes did in the SUPERBOWL. Plus madden is the coolest game ever and will get better every year.

Oh one last thing, the O-Line play is ridiculous, why is it so hard to get sacks with guys like D-ware and James Harrison, the answer is they always get cut blocked, B.S.!!! the only players who use cut blocks are RB's, you will never see a 6"8 OL diving to make a cut block like they do in 09, and top flight pass rushers simply run around the slower O-Lineman not directly into them like in 09. Thanks for your time.

  • jpacman said February 12, 2009

Please fix the coverage system, why do DB's and LB's jump 10 ft in the air and bat and intercept balls when they are 5 yds behind, and what is the purpose of having Rany Moss with 98 spd run a go route when Ty Law with 86 spd can keep up with him and LB's with 80 spd can too, interceptions happen alot more rarely in real life than they do in this game, DB's and LB's drop balls more than they pick them unlike 09 when they can intercept with one hand, it's ridiculous!

Also please adjust the ball catching button configurations, for example....tapping Y is suppost to activate the "Spectacular Catch" function, but that works 1 out of 10 times, the other times they just throw they're hands in the air if even that, I should be able to jump for a fade route in the end zone, not have it just fly over my head or get out jumped by a 5"10 DB over my 6"3 WR when playing the computer. The man coverage system is horrible also, out routes and slants are undefendable when playing man coverage even playing press coverage, UNBELIEVABLE!!

Upgrading the challenge system and allowing me to choose what I want to challenge is sorely needed!! I don't like the stupid CPU choosing for me. I love Madden but you guys are way behind on some thing that even NFL 2K5 had 4 years ago, Please, Please fix these issues, it is really frustrating.

The Goal Line defense needs serious help also, why is it no matter what defense is called it is impossible to stop the QB sneak for 1-2 yards???? In real games the QB gets 1 yd max, more likely they get 1-2 inches. In 09 they pull off getting untouched into the end zone at the goal line, that will never happen.

I'm sure there's allot of Madden Fans who are using these forums to Madden bash  everything EA has done wrong with Madden (rightfully so). I'm trying really hard myself not to join in on the frustration, but I feel this year is a make or break year for Madden. I've been a HUGE fan of Madden ever since the ambulance came rolling through my teams huddle...and running my players over (good times lol). In all honesty, the fact that last years Madden and all the previous Maddens for Next Gen consoles, have focused primarily on new gimmicks and features rather than what the fans really want.....an all around, deep and responsive game that makes you want to continue playing after the first season.

Ever since I went back to playing ESPN 2k5 (couple weeks ago), I really felt the wool has been pulled over my eyes as far as what my expectations should be for a complete game. Don't get me wrong, ESPN 2K5 isn't perfect, but it's the most complete sports game I have ever played, hands down, top to bottom. Not only can lessons be learned on game presentation, but also responsiveness of the game play, and player rewards (not achievements) help take away from the daily grind of football.

My Tweak List for Madden 2010:

Return Of The Running Game: Looks like this is already being worked on according Donny Moore's Blog. A HUGE sigh of relief. I had a hard time believing Larry Johnson could be tackled from behind by a DT that was 10 yards behind.

Improved Running Game: The defense is able to easily shed blocks as soon as a RB approaches the line therefore killing the fun of running the ball.

Player Awareness: You know, players' momentum taking them out of bounds on a route

with know one within 10 yards of them.

Defensive Aggressiveness: Way to aggressive. Most LB's have super-natuaral abilities that allow them to jump for picks that are thrown over their heads.

QB Scramble ability: I think I read this on someone's post and it's a great idea. QB's like Ben Rothlisberger should be able  dodge multiple defensive players and still get away with a good throw.

Presentation: Why is it Madden CANNOT GET THIS RIGHT? The presentation was better in the PS2 versions, (and a deeper franchise mode for that matter) so why is it that we are let down when it comes to statistical updates?! Madden 09 was improved in this area, but still nowhere near 2k5's presentation

Game play: The game play has improved, but still very disappointing Too many times I'm locked up in a “canned animation” of being tackled. I have to make a move too far ahead of time just to get an extra yard or so. The responsiveness needs to be tightened up. A lot.

Madden Cards: Bring them back. I don't care whether they are used like they were in previous gens,  but if they could be something you could collect like a set of cards in MLB 2k8 it would be something to do other than game after game of football.

Sky box: It might be a rip off of 2k5, but there needs to be something else to work towards and other collectibles like a personalized space of some sort to display your team colors and collectibles. Hell call it a locker room for all I care.

    P.S. Player tatooes!

here are a few things what madden needs and what i would and maybe most madden gamers would wanna see in madden 10 if not 10 then 11.

first let me start by saying i sold my ps2 n everything with it 2 buy a ps3 and play madden on ps3. n wen i bought 08 it sucked so much that i sold it n bought it for the ps2 cuz what i expected was my ps2 madden on the ps3 but with better graphics n some new fetures n tweaks 2 problems the ps2 maddens had. what i got was everything from the ps2 maddens missing. now 09 has been in my opinion better then 08, i mean i actually still have the game but it still needs alot of help.

1st-im pretty sure peeps have said something bout this already but my o-line sucks n miss n wiff on blocks left n right while the cpu picks up everything. n my blockers on runs for some reason decide it would be best 2 not 1st block the person in front of there face n let him go by unblocked cuz they want 2 block the LB n safetys down field.

2nd-QBs cant be able keep droping back 10-15yrds n throw perfect strikes off there back foot or RH QBs n vise vercsa shouldnt be able 2 roll 2 there left n throw 2 there right across the feild n hit a perfect pass with super velocity behind it.

3rd-my RBs need 2 pick up the blitz better or atleast make the cpus RBs abilty 2 pick up blitzes as bad as mine.

4th-hopefully these new ratings fix this but i cant throw fly routes 2 any WRs outside of randy moss, calvin johnson, larry fitz,n plax with any consitency. i mean i play as the eagles n complete flys 2 there WRs 1/20 times if im lucky or if they are coverd by linbackers n coners or with a spd rating around 80-85.

5th- please get rid of that stupid catch animation where on almost every deep throw mostly flys my recivers do that stupid 360 n try turn n ctach it while doing a 360.also why cant my wrs jump on fades n flys but the defenders can?. everytime i take control of a WR n push the supposed ctach/jump buttom i just put my hands in the air n hav never EVER jumped while running n caught the ball, if this button isnt gonna do its job please make catch n jump 2 different buttons so i can jump wen i want 2.

6th-fix how my defense cant get pressure with 4 or a biltz but the cpu get 2 me routinly in 2 secs no matter whos blocking for me whether that be some 69 ovr or 99 ovr. not 2 say i dont get sacks or anything  but i hope u get wat im saying.

7th- 8/10 every QB i face completes over 75% of his passes n so do i but its like every time i blitz the QB whether its tom brady or dan orlovsky  seems 2 know where the vacated area in the defense is n throw 2 a open WR in the zone that l left open by lets say blitzing my safety or corner or any position. now id can understar brady reading the defense like this but every QB?.

8th-i think u guys really need 2 get rid of these linebackers jumping 50inchs in the air n making acrobatic catchs like larry fitz.

9th- if i run the ball 20-30 times b4 the 4th qtr n have TOP heavily in my  , come that 4th qtr the defense shud be worn out n crumble. n when i run the ball 10-11-12-15 times in a row and do a PA i better see some defenders bite hard on the run fake cuz 2 often when i do this defenders never bite and drop back into there zones like im passing every down or someshit n when that DE or LB comes off the edge on these play fakes they never seem 2even look at my HB n make a b-line the the QB. but i have noticed the PA to work alright on 1st downs even if i dont run a single run play the whole game.

10th-please do something about these online cheezers that find 2-3 plays(pass plays) that work n thats all they call the whole game n are unstoppable almost. maybe u can do this by allowing peeps 2 only call a play no more then say 5-7 times a game n once they do they can no longer call that play n its diabled for the rest of the game sorta like wat u guys use 2 do wit fair play on making peeps punt on 4th-10 in the 1st qtr from there own 20. as 2 fix the no huddle cheese i maybe make everyone on there offense get gassed much faster unless its in the last 2 mins b4 the half or game.

11th- i love 2 play franchise the most and this is where i have the most problems n get angry n annoyed the most. now in the ps2 maddens i was able 2 create packages n change my hot routes which where both great i would always switch my slants 2 posts n my curl 2 a screen hitch where they just turn n look at the QB at off the snap of the ball. but even more important u guys need 2 bring back subsitutions, i would always set my subs for every formation b4 my season started now i have 2 do the same with the in-game subs but alo fight the play clock n having 2 call a play aswell, i have 2 take a bunch of delay of game penaltys n rush myself 2 fix my subs for my 1st game of every season.

12th-in franchise i used 2 be able 2 change players height n weight n hair cuts, now hieght hair cuts r not big deals 2 me but the weight is i like u draft a linebacker whos like 220 or or DE whos 240 n beef them up 15-20pds b4 a season or vise versca, i mean this does happen for example eagles DE trent cole beefed up from 240-260 his rookie year so he can play DE. why cant i do that? u guys used 2 let us do that. i mean its my game i paid for it n if i want 2 make everyone in my game 350pds who does it hurt?.

13th- with rookie imports n some free agents that i sign or the cpu signs or drafts i noticed that they keep there college number like DE n WR with the #1 wear that jersey why? that take away from the realism everyone know theres a number system for jerseys in the nfl so why isnt it in the game. please fix that.

14th-and the simulated stats for the cpu r still out of whack. the rushing stats r ok but can use some fine tuning. in my franchises all QBs have over  60% comp% n most have it in the 70s range, like maybe 1 QB comp% is over 70 every 2-3 seasons not 10 a year. its like a 60 comp% is maddens new 50 comp%, some goes for QB ratings theres alway like 6-7 guys over a 100 rating per season n every1 is over 75, in real life nfl maybe 1 guy is over 100 per season n there r a few guys in the 60s range n a alot in the 70s, defenders dont ever have enough tackles the LL is always round like 120 when in the nfl the LL gets round 170.for some reason there r alot fewer fumbles n FF cuz the LL in those r like 5 n 3, look at peterson he fumbled round 9 times this year and dawkins forced 7 fumbles. also it would be nice 2 nice once in a while some1 other then me chase history a bit, like for example a HB rush for 18-25 TDs, a QB throw for 4700yrds n 45TDs, a WR have 120rec n 1700yrds n 17-20TDs, a DE gets 18-23 sacks or a guy have like 12ints.

15th-bring half sacks in the game n why cant 3-4 OLBs get sacks when u sim cuz in madden d.ware wouldnt be caught dead getting 20 sacks let alone 10. also when i play my game my o-line dosent get any pancakes, seems this is alway 2 low or 2 high n u get 200 pancakes in madden 06 but 5 in 09 of a season.

16th-gotta fix the off-season big time.bring back restricted free agents n bring back free agency after the draft not just b4. also i notice that after like 5-6 seasons ur salary cap sky rockets 2 like 300 mil n i alway have round 100 mil under the cap, that cant be 2 hard 2 fix can it? also i dont need 11QBs taken in the 1st round in every draft n come 5th round no QBs left. also dont need the cpu ussing 1st rd picks a QB every year.

17th-free agency is a joke where  stars round 26-29 never show up n that stars at like 32-33 all get cut after having awsome seasons n dont get signed like tom brady, peyton manning, reggie wayne n etc.

18th- as for the progresions maybe u guys shud do wat u do wit ur fifa and nhl games n let me gain exp pts for each playler n build any of there stats with them.n definetly need 2 fix the degression of players. actually ur ps2 madde progression system was pretty good acept for the fact that the awareness of players on back to back winning seasons n teams would sky rocket 2 99. maybe u guys can try using a similar system.

19th-please bring back the training camp drills n get rid of this game by game stuff. i never even train my guys b4 each game its stinks. bring back the ps2 madden training camps n spice it up n chage a few things. like when i beat a drill n get 2 all madden and get 7 pts let me put it on any stats i want not just 3 different ones.

wow i think thats all i can think of rite now haha. i know this is a long read n doubt any1 or ea sports will read all of it, hopefully some of it it n fix any of these things but atleast i got 2 vent some of my frustrations with my favourite game or wat once was my favorite and is feel dam good 2 get all that off my chest. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Gamblor NY said February 13, 2009

I wish you guys would spend half as much effort on making the game uncheatable than on tweaking stats. I'd rather play with a team full of 35 OVR players than be winning 31-13 with 45 seconds left to go only to see my opponent call a timeout and then you get the "The connection has been lost" screen, and then the game never shows up in your record.

THAT is the worst part about Madden. Fix *that,* and I will be a loyal customer even if you never improve anything else.

  • COOFY-SMACKER said February 13, 2009

I think the biggest problem I have with this year's Madden is not having the ability to playmaker on defence after the ball is snap. So many times while playing defence, and good defence might I add; the person on offence will scramble out the pocket and send various recevers on these shooting streaking routes and defence has nothing to counter this. I can very well see their green circle and cover their nonsence from side-line to side-line but when they playmaker the recever up 8-10 times im usally beat for a big gain. So EA please install the ability to playmaker on defence after the ball is snaped. Thank You.

  • a1234561 said February 13, 2009

how bout in franchise mode in free agency and re-signings actually have players take pay cut n less money cuz they want 2 stay with my team or cuz they want 2 play for my team n have free agents who r like 28-29 n were just cut sign cheap 1 year deals with team so they can prove they can still play ala j.trhotter from the eagles back in the 04 season and ended up being a big part 2 there superbowl run.

also in franchise please let me switch players 2 any position and not have this waring u cant change his position cuz u wont have enough players at this position, same goes for the fantasy draft lets us the users deciede that cuz if we want to draft 20 DE or chage every1 one my team 2 a QB let me n let me worry bout filling out my roster.

also in franchise please if u only do 1 thing make it this have realistic salarys for draft picks enough of this 1 rd picks wanting 6-7 yrs for like 100 mil or more importantly 5th round picks wanting deals like 4 yrs 8 mil n such cuz 2nd rounders if lucky get like 4yr deals worth like 6mil in the real nfl. i know u guys make the contracts go based off of the ovrs but building threw the draft is suppose 2 save money not make u broke like u have bought 5 big money FA every yr n 3-6rd n some 2nd rd picks dont get contracts worth more then like a mil a year. please fix this cuz im tired of my 3-4-5 rd picks wanting 1 rd contracts cuz the r like a 80 ovr.

  • a1234561 said February 13, 2009

the supersim is great but i should be able 2 watch some play like in ncaa 09's supersim and i play 8 min qtrs n supersim and play like 3-4 drives a game  buti get way 2 many injuries when i supersim i did this for entire season supersiming games and playing like 3-4 drives a game and ended up with 17 players injured for lokie 7 weeks to out for season thats 2 many specially since in franchise putting a guy on IR dosent result in gaining a roster spot like in real life.

also in franchise when i play all my games me and the cpu never have any players hurt im tired of having just 0-3 players hurt a year every season n same for the cpu i want 5-9 guys hurt on my team n others from time 2 time for realism, ad like an injury slider or something like u guys had in madden 07 on the ps2

  • a1234561 said February 13, 2009

i like 2 start frachises and just sim every game n just do the coaching stuff like the pass 2 run sliders nsuch n do the off season. this has gotten pretty lame from the ps2 days which were pretty good  like the pass 2 run and conservitive 2 aggressive sliders for off n def go by 5 make it go by 1's and i also like 2 when i sim 2 see or be able 2 make some sort of a rotation system on my d-line like the eagles or giants do in real life because my back ups never play unless theres an injury  also allow me 2 choose if my fb gets any carrys cuz i always hav a fb get like 25-40 carrys a year when i simchise as i like 2 call it

also for the pass vs run sliders maybe it shud tell u that if u leave it at 60 for the pass it will look like 30 passes 2 20 run per game on avg or 480 passes att a season 2 320 rush att

all in all try 2 make simchise(siming a franchise) more in depth

  • phiaburn said February 13, 2009

the adjustments of the ratings sound great but is the speed really going to help with being able to cover a man one-on-one on a simple crossing route. you don't have to be the best cb to jump a route if its been beating you all game. the same with running plays, if someone is running fb dive all game they shouldn't continue to get 4 and 5 yards at least. as a player if you know something is coming your chances of making a stop increases. some thing like a "read and react" feature where after you select your defensive play you select a read play to notify your D what you want to stop...run or screens or deep passes or play action. if you think they are running play action, and they run play action, why would you still fall for the playaction?

no more rb's breaking takles 2 yards deep in the backfield before they get any momentum. at times rb's get to much forward momentum. bigger hits across the middle and more drops on those hits.

widen the field, the players are big and take up too much field space and cover too much ground. if you send a wr on a go route wit one-on-one coverage with a safety in the middle of the field...the safety gets over 9 out of 10 times to either intercept, break up the pass or make the takle. thats not very realistic.

kick and punt returns a terrible.

    pile-ups on qb sneaks.

PLEASE do something about catching the ball when you r going towards the sidelines. AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE- improve the Reaction, man i pass up so many picks simply becuz my defender did not react. 2 men sitting in a zone(waiting for the ball) then when it comes, they don't even react. Not to mention the receiver catches on a crucial 3rd or even 4th down.

You gotta add the uniform selection feature and custom stadium sounds to online. Please add mascotts and cheerleaders also. I know you can do this cause NCAA09 had it.  Those features almost kept me from madden this year if NCAA haddent had such poor game play.

Whenever im on offense and the OL make a hole for the running back, as soon as I run into that hole a DT will break off his block, turn around and run down LT within 2 yards. How is this possible?

Also, wide recievers cannot run long routes (unless it is brady to moss) without the ball being picked off or the receiver being tackled straight away. Its like the WR has been sucked back toward the corner.

Also please bring in wildcat, madden 09 didnt have any trick plays

  • CAMREN630 said February 13, 2009

tired of not being able to catch a pass in stride.ill throw a drag route across the middle my reciever will catch it but what happens a he stands there as if he does not know what to do i mean im trying to run but ea just wont let me im stuck cause of an dumb animation so what happens it gives the other player time to click to his man hit stick me and what do you no fumble or an incomplete pass.please fix this.

  • IndyColts2 said February 13, 2009

thanks camren, I really think EA needs to look into this, as it would stop players from breaking 6 tackles in one play and still run full speed for 50 yards after.

I just want to post it one or two more times to get my point across to EA, hopefully Donny reads this:

  • MichiganMonstah said February 14, 2009

I hope part of this "new philosophy" includes making the TEAMS more realistic as well. I saw that with the new Fight Night you have to use the particular boxer's style to be effective with him. For example you wont be able to dance around the ring and jab from a distance if you have Mike Tyson. The same principal is needed in Madden. I hate playing someone online who picks the Steelers, primarily a running and defensive team, but they air it out all day like the Patriots or Colts. If they can fix that this game will be a lot better off.

fourth fix the d back how he jumps up and knows wehn the ball is coming without looking

fifth fix practice mode its bad

sixth trick plays, i mean come on there was none.... at least like a couple wr reverses bettter flea flickers and wildcat

I recently went back and took a look at 2k5 again and it was amazing what i saw. A game made in 2005 was made with better physics, realism, fan interaction, intelligence, animation. You had full and total control of your man it was ridiculous what i saw. Here we are in 2009 and we are still waiting for EA two give us anything close to what unanimously is the best football game to date. All we here from EA is excuses on why they can not do certain things and we have better technology in our hands than in 2005. There is absolutely no excuse for you guys and i will not accept it anymore. If 2010 Madden is not better than what 2k5 is i am done for good until 2k gets back in the game of making video football games. One thing that stood out was that on 2k5 when you pushed the catch button they actually went up to catch the ball regardless of a ball being overthrown or not, then they flashed to madden 09 and you pressed they y button and the receiver just quickly chucks his hands up or does nothing at all. That stood out to me and spoke volumes about all the pre-canned animations and lack of control you have in madden.

I will end with this EA:

What you do speaks so loudly, that I can not hear what you Say!!!!!

  • Tron8 said February 14, 2009

Everything touched on sounded great. Love the specifics about abusing a slot receiver in past Maddens. How do the new ratings affect QBs, more specifically, mobile QBs, which is always an issue in Madden? Also the speed issue, if Steve Slaton turns the corner and a safety is out of place he shouldn't be caught from behind.

  • FRANCUA said February 14, 2009

although i do not post as much as camren does i am literally on this forum at least 3 times a day catching up with all the great ideas that some of these other guys have frist off i would like to commend you guys on the huge jump that 08 made to 09 that in itself was amazing and you can definitly tell this game is going in a much better direction then it was when it first got to next gen...

as far as coverage works if your going to have a double team at least make it work to where the corner is gonna play under and the safety will play over the top or vice versa in 09 they both stay over the top which makes no sense kinda makes a double team pointless.

one thing that def needs fixing is how the qb can throw perfect across his body or how the qb throws a perfect strike off his back foot i hated that there were so many big 3rd down plays that i gave up just becuase the qb could run backwards and make a perfect pass definitly needs to be fixed...

i thought this year that the oline got a little bit better with kinda creating a pocket for the qb however i think it still needs some work. run blocking got way better... i would like to see the offense do more double teaming on the top knotch defensive line guys that normally wreak havoc ona qb or in the backfield of the running back

recievers def need some help... they never go up for the ball.... ever i liked how in 08 you were able to throw a jump ball to the wr on a fade route and possibly he would come down with that.. also make the jumping attribute matter in 09 the linebackers could jump as high as the recievers the only people on the field that should be able to have any chance of going up with the recievers is maybe a few freakish athelete linebackers and the db's... also not every linebacker in the game should be able to run with the recievers but based on the news above it sounds like you guys will have this taken care of so thank you

defensive line def needs some help the dline almost never won the matchups against the oline... the only time i ever got sacks was if the qb would run playaction and i ran all the way around the olineman and hit him as he turned to throw this def needs some work the dline has to be given a little love

now i know some linebackers are just freakish athletes and have some amazing athletic ability but linebackers dont have 60 inch verts nor does anyone really but there is no way a linebacker should be able to sky rocket into the air and come down with a pass that is intended for a reciever 20 yds down field

dbs are a big problem to me in the game its almost like they would rather swat the ball down then make the pick the ball can be thrown directly to the db and he will jump at the ball to swat it not to pick it they also play like idiots in the zone i hope you guys find a good way to fix this

kick coverage needs to be fixed to why do i have guys running downfield to the endzone when they should be blocking this def needs to be fixed

make playaction work if i run the ball 8 times in a row and i am gaining 4 - 5 yds a carry how come nobody bites on the playaction we should see a safety come up or linebackers hesitate or even catch a corner looking in the backfield so that recievers get more seperation

lets see some more penalties too maybe if you guys came up with a composure attribute this would have guys who had not so good composure commit more penalties or make more mistakes on the field or something like that

franchise mode i think that the teams need like a chemistry rating and that morale of each player should have an affect of the chemistry guys with bad morale cause a problem for teams and a problem on the field for teams also.. also franchise mode needs to have computer initiated trades this has been something we have been looking for a long time the nba mlb and the nhl all have this stuff so how come the nfl doesnt have it yet another thing either i am ridiculously good at handling the salary cap or there is something wrong i should not have over a 100 million dollars of free space in cap after 2 seasons player salaries need to inflate as they normally do in the nfl so that its not so easy to get any old player you want make it a challenge make this something that we have to manage along with the happiness of our players i guess what im trying to say is make the franchise mode more like head coach... also give free agents wants and make them matter some guys go places because they like the coaching staffs of the team other guys go for money or weather or something like that just make it more interesting for us. bring in position coaches so that we can set up our hole coaching staff not just o and d coordinator and special teams... also when we get to training camp or the offseason if we want to have our players gain weight or lose weight  let us be able to send them to like a strength training camp or something along those line i think nba was the game that allows you to do this bring back the player roles i think this will help with the morale issue i remember having a star running back playing 05 and then drafting a rb in the first round and then my star would get upset about it

superstar mode needs to be revamped.. if i am a wr and i get drafted by the colts their is no reason why i should be starting over reggie wayne make us earn it dont just give it to us that kinda defeats the hole purpose and make it so we have less control being a superstar you dont get to just ask for a trade and then you get traded that doesnt make sense and when we do the training to get our ratings at the combine at least have the minigames work the 40 yd dash drill doesnt make sense i run a 5.0 sec 40 and my speed is an 85 that is like what lineman run that makes no sense either

some more things i wanna see in 2010 is bring back the coach mode...that was one of the things that i used to love playing in the older maddens also the accelerated clock that was one of the best features in the game when it was there please bring that back i know it seems like i am unhappy with the game but i am really not this game has gotten progressivly better and i am looking forward to more information on it and its good to see that our posts are being accounted for and i hope that all of our input helps you guys put out a great product. i appreciate all that you guys do and am looking forward to a great 2010 game thanks!!!

  • IndyColts2 said February 14, 2009

Donny, I know you are busy and all, but I just want to know what you think about these ideas that I have. I have a lot more, but this is mainly for the ratings aspect of the game:

Probably the biggest issue for me in the current, and all the other maddens was that the players act nothing like themselves except for the running styles and celebrations. wide recievers for example, i would like to see make trademark catches and plays just how they do in realy life. i hope this can be fixed by adding like an AI personality to the players and not just be asjusted by the rating sliders. (for example: steve smith consistantly grabs the ball from the air in a pit of defenders every week. this isnt possible in madden due to his height.)i know EA has a little problem with 2K, but look at NBA 2K9. Every single basketball player shoots the ball the way he does in real life. EVEN ROOKIES AND BADLY RATED PLAYERS! also, everything the other people posted is amazing and id like to see this madden adhere to everyones requests. another thing id like to see fixed are the players on the sideline. those players are jsut constantly clapping or moving their heads around doing nothing and they look like crap. it would be cool to see actual defensive players on the side line with their helmets off if the offense is on the feild and vise versa. oh yea! i think we would all looovvee to see the players helmets pop off from big hits again. why take that away? when i create a character just for fun in madden, i can never make a white guy have long hair. that bugggggsss me. i liked the old create-a-player system much better.

im sorry im just a hordcore madden player (09 is the only game i currently own)

i love this game and im ecstatic that we are allowed to give EA our opinion in madden10.

good luck with the game and im confident that this will be the greatest sports game of all time.

ninth thats a good idea with stretching the ratings but you should make the players who are good like really good and be able to make more plays then say all these scrambeling qbs who can suddenly stop and thro a perfect manning pass

  • swillz13 said February 14, 2009

heres what i would like to see in madden. better movements: should be able to dodge rushers in the pocket with the qb by pressing a button.two. better and more choices of equipment like more gloves make tha visors better add mouth pieces eye black stuff like that also more cleats, more helmets and face masks and a better create a team the ones before didn't offer much choice i would also like to see a first person mode for superstar optional of course and add more options to the superstar mode make the combine realistic like u should be able to do the stuff that they actually do in the combine and have it in the place where they do it.

I really don't know what a lot of these guys are complaining about. I love Madden, its the most realistick football game out there. No its not perfect but its still great. You guys find a way to make it better every year.

I have read about the new changes to the player ratings, and i'm a bit worry. I trust you guys, I just hope I can still play with my Raiders.

There will always be things that other players want to change. I can only think of two things that i'm looking for. At least at the moment.

    1. I would love to see the fair play rules make a return to online gameing. I'm sick and tried of holding a players to 4th and long, and then they hit a post pattern on me for 20. Its just not right.

    2. The francise mode online with 31 other players. I don't think i'd ever leave my house again.

  • defence52 said February 15, 2009

injuries need to be more realistic. also u should be a head coach on a team and choose what plays u do. and u should choose who u get in the ncaa football roster to nfl

  • jdays05 said February 15, 2009

I think madden is a good game overall. I play online and everything. i think a few things can be added

1 before the coin toss they shoould show the players running out of the tunnel for their pre game warm ups.

2 On pass plays the camera should zoom out so you can see the flat routes.

3 i think the way the corners play defense should go back to how it was in 08

4 I think how the wide recivers catch the ball on the deep routes should go back to how it was in 08

5 in franchise mode their should b a drill that gives you straight up points to add to a players speed. not points u have to build up to make a player faster faster by reciving 1 stat point

6 On time outs they should show the players while your picking your play , in the back ground taking a knee listening to the coach and getting some gatorade

7 lastly i think the snow should be shown thicker to the the realistics of how the players really play in the deep snow once it acumulates during the game

  • FRANCUA said February 15, 2009

just a couple more ideas lets bring back some of the retro uniforms like the old patriot and cowboy uniforms and the speed attribute needs to be fixed i have linebackers in my franchise mode that are a 99 in speed i dont think you should be able to increase top end speed maybe you can improve on the burst which would be acceleration but not the speed attribute other wise every reciever gets to be 99 speed and is not like that

  • sconn1 said February 15, 2009

also, the online ratings system needs to improved. as well as the lobby system.

  • sconn1 said February 15, 2009

another thought after reading some other suggestions....on penalties...more realism please. 1 big mistake ya'll make is "illegal contact" penalty for defenders is ignored, and interference is missed 90% of the time. i've also had challenges not get overturned when the receiver didn't have 1 foot in bounds, let alone 2. especially frustrating on a td catch and the receiver is 100% in the paint.

qbsneaks are too effective. fullbacks are too effective. speedrushers are basically neutralized in that facet of the game. it is on one hand ridiculous that it takes more time to run a no huddle play than quickly choose a new one from the menu and on the other hand allowing guys to run 60-80 yard incomplete sprints up and down the field and still be able to jump and catch on the 3rd or 4th or 10th play. or a lineman being able to block at the point. or anyone being able to catch a ball after running full speed for 10, 15 or more seconds on a single play with a qb running 20 yards back and 45 yards sideline to sideline.

i also agree that you eliminate these 10ft. vertical jumps and other physically impossible ints. and such. how bout letting the offense's play be exposed after running it more than 2x in a row or a certain percentage of the time fro the get go, not just in the 2nd half.

  • swillz13 said February 15, 2009

ok so on madden it says check back here every sunday to check out info on the new madden and so i come here and theres no new information. Get it together lets go!

  • The1TheeeOnly said February 15, 2009

Wats up I just want to talk about things in madden that need to improve.  One thing is when you caall the perfect play and stop the guy on offense but they can press up on the right stick and gain two yards.  that's one thing you need to change.  second thing is the quarter back sneak because the whole is just wide open no matter what play you call.  Also I have an idea about how to nfl superstar better to where more people can buy it.  Hold up its genius.  You should make a superstar ONLINE!  You could play normal superstar to make your players better then once good enough you and some of your friends can make ur own team or just join a game

After that who ever has the best stats can be in a pro bowl. But there can be multiple one's and not just one just to make it more fun.  Now you might be thinking what about if u dont have enough players?  You can bring a computer in no matter what position make their overall like 75 to where people will want more people on their teams or just let people paly offense and defense.  And for play calling you have the quarter back and the best player on defense pick the plays or have players that play NFL coach pick the plays.

These are all the things that would make madden 2010 a sell out.  Oh yeah! let the recievers actually go up and catch the ball.  The reason they call it 'mossin' is because most of the time the reciever "Randy Moss" gets higher than a corner not vise versa.  And dont allow little darren sproles truck ray lewis its impossible!  And foot planting should be better when changing directions every single time

  • BIG JUBES said February 15, 2009

    think they should add

probality of completion to a reciver.ie when the qb hikes the ball and the receivers run their routes there should be a precentage indicator underneath them say if ocho is running and youre waiting to for him to get open and hes at about an 85% and tj is out in the open at 100%

also have a precentage for the qb ie if delhome is going to pass and he scrambles out of the pocket waiting for steve smith or musim mohamad determined where he throws it show the precentage of him completing the play

you can use that as well on the d for sacks ints or rushes

hey while we are at it no more chris collinsworth put the local team announcers for the radio games i love to hear TOUCHDOWN TITANS or KANSAS CITY or better yet those guys on the panther games get excited over a play i think that would be a good call

add all uniforms new and retros as well as alternatives jerseys pants and helmets along with classic stadiums

LOL a mascot mashup as well

  • The1TheeeOnly said February 15, 2009

Ok here are some things that could be better

    1. QB sneak shouldnt work or it should be hard to get in on goaline

2.Just becasue the player leads block doesnt mean i can't stop it

    3. The offensive players always breaking tackles.  Darren sproles should not truck ray lewis, he can juke him but HE CANT TRUCK RAY LEWIS MAN! also pressing up on the right analog stick when tackled and gain two more yards(It doesnt happen  in real life

4.Let us see the whole field and not just the middle i throw picks because i cant see the side line.  Let the reciever go up for the ball.  Corey Ivy can out jump Randy Moss on this game, make the vertical attribute come to the game

    4. Defensive players, playing man can be better.  The double team doesnt work at all unless they are going deep.  Corner should have inside and safety and over the top

5.The comebacks that the recievers do is hard to stop.

    6. We need trick plays to keep that defense honest(not just screens)

    7. Vertical jumping for defensive players should go down.  I had a guy wide open 15 yards in front of a linebacker.  I press up to throw it and the guy FLEW!  This will make more people play man more just like in the nfl.

8.When the line pinches and then spreads out it shouldnt be hard to stop but it is on both the pass and the run(not realistic)

9.Fix the field goal block glitch and wats with on kick return i see guys running for the enzone instead of keep blocking

    10.  Last but not least, nfl superstar online would be a sell out trust me!

Here are just a few things that will never be addressed, but it feels good to get off my chest.

    1. Bring Madden back to do color commentating.  Chris Collinsworth's inane babble drives me crazy.  He is pompous, irritating and generally bad.

    2. And why do you hate the Dolphins.  There is about five teams with losing records that have a better overall rating than the Dolphins.  There is countless teams that did not make the playoffs with a better overall rating.

    3. Bring back the squib kick.

    4. And someone explain to me how a linebacker can cover a wide-receiver down field or in space.  I can understand on the short side of the field in zone, but the best linebacker or even a half way decent safety can't cover poor receivers down field, in space, man-to-man.  That problem my biggest complaint with the on-line play.

    5. Why doesn't "run comment" or "pass comment" work?  Why do defenders break their angle of pursuit to engage a blocker?  To say; is the run is going through the center guard gap,  the middle line backer will follow the full back to the guard tackle gap at the last second giving the running back a hole.

    6. What is up with the 6ft. vertical leap?

    7. How can a team run a no-huddle for over five minutes?

    8. Tom Brady can not throw 70 yards.  I know he is attractive and he is huggable but he can't throw 70 yards.  He especially can't while back peddling 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage, no one can.  There is no quarterback in the league that can drop back twenty yards, throws across his body while back peddling, down field to a receiver with a 6ft vertical leap.

    9.  Does any of your people play on-line.  There should be someone that could catch all these glitches.  People will literally play for days to find glitches, it makes on-line game play poor.

    10. As everyone else has said, bring back the "trick plays" playbook.

    11. The fastest person on earth could stand on the sideline and I could lob a twenty yard pass to the opposite sideline they would never catch the football.  You could put the fastest person in the fastest production car and he still would not catch that pass.  It is physics.  But Troy Palomalo can do it on Madden?

    Thanks

first off, i am very pleased with the updates done to 09 from 08. the biggest stand out is that we can actually run it up the middle now. i remember in 08 when i would pick an up the middle run and still end up outside cause it was the only open place. now for some suggestions:

    1) many people have already touched on this, it would be just fantastic if we could play an online franchise.

2)after Tom Brady got injured, i dicided to make a QB superstar for new england and finished the first season and it was fun. the next year i went to play a game and noticed that alot of players got released cause their contract ran out. then i REALLY noticed that New Englands kicker was my new left guard. so my question on that one is...why??!!!!

aka can you make the "coaches/GMs" in superstar smarter?

3)I'm super excited for the new rating updates cause i've noticed something everytime there is a roster update: it seems like your making really good players like payton or brady, are being short changed to make it more "fair" even though in real life, payton and brady can sling it like no one else in the league.

4)we should be able to use kickers in superstar. and we should also have a more in depth superstar experience. i cant remember what game i was playing when i was first exposed to the concept (weither it be madden or NCAA) but i remember i going through the week and all the sudden i apperintly am staring in a hit movie. i thought that was pretty sweet lol. so make superstar about more then just practice practice practice game repeat.

5)when you are fixing the stats stuff, also make more indepth stats. i think someone mentioned QB release. also make like, QB spiral, or form a stat. cause clearly someone like billy volek cant throw a ball as well as tony romo.

thanks for listening to all of our concerns.

  • jmac11qb said February 15, 2009

    lol to "sportyfoot"

its cause troy palomalo is effin troy palomalo.

and yeah, tom brady can throw it 70 yards. he has done it before.

and the no huddle thing is hardly that bad. i play real football and ive managed to play no huddle Offense for an intire half so its not that rediculous to do it for 5 minutes.

i do super agree with you on the dolphins thing, the bringing john madden back thing, and the bringing back the squib kick thing. and deffinitly the backer cover thing.

  • jkelly24 said February 15, 2009

I think what u really need 2 work on is the wr going up 4 the ball at it's highest point 2 many times on 09 they short arm the ball or don't jump at all more player controll when it comes to going up 4 a catch

  • HomerJoeSimpson said February 15, 2009

    ok my ideas are this...

a better halftime show and play by play mini show at half time and after the game to tell you whats been going on through the game and through the week. i remember that one of the nfl 2k games had the dude from sportscenter at halftime tell you whats been going on through the game. and after the game was over you could go to the menu and watch a mini show with him and he would show you highlights of whats been going on through the week and tell you about trades, signings, etc. it was like really watching the show on your franchise. and it was cool that if i broke a big run in the game i was playing for a TD, that i could watch the mini show and the dude would show highlights of it and talk about it. now i don't mean bring back that radio thing you guys had like 2 years ago. that was stupid. i liked the newspaper articles better than that. i want to see an actual mini show of my teams and other teams acomplishments and news about the week and in the game. people would love that, believe me.

also i would like to see more sideline FMG's of the players and coaches. like (again in nfl 2k) if my player just made a big play, there was a camera on him on the sideline and he would point his finger up saying he's number one. or maybe if your player messed up a play, he could be seen on the sideline getting talked to by the coach or something. basicaly i would like the experience of the game im playing, to feel like im atcually watching it on tv.

also more fan FMG's. like if the home team is getting blown out, they should pan the camera on the fans leaving with disappointment. i think they did have that in one of maddens before cause i remember it.

and last, i would like you guys to bring back the introductions like you had last year. it was cool to see my starters come out of that tunnel being called name by name and getting pumped right before playing the game.

now i know you guys are going to say this might be to much stuff for the room you have to work with, but i suggest you get rid of that stupid superstar mode cause no one plays it and it would give up a lot more room to work with in the game.

  • FRANCUA said February 15, 2009

i like jmacqb11's idea of a more in depth attribute for the qb's i think that ea should make a qb mechanics attribute or something along those lines

  • Dukom2Def said February 15, 2009

Is there any type of way you guys can add the FORMATION SHIFT back to the game becuz i am one of the players that love the fact that every time I came out the huddle i had about 15 to 20 plays I could call at the line. I think it would really help the gamers prepare better gameplans also.

Another thing I miss is when I could have my own CUSTOM HOT ROUTES. On PS2 like 04 or so I could pick the routes I wanted to assign to the button I wanted from a pool of all the routes from the game, I thought that was also really cool and it could again to me make game planning for us madden players even more in depth.

Please fix the the problem or situation with Randy Moss or T.O etc... I play with the Chargers and with any big time receiver I face I match Cromartie on  them. Now with route running I would expect him to lose a few of the matches but with the FLY ROUTE........... His speed is 97 how do they get behind him everytime. I think it really degrades the game becuz some players just hot route them to run flies and throw that all day, they play with no game plan just rely on the system cuz they kno no matter how many u stop it the will get 2 to 3 every game.

I am a true MADDEN fan and if these few changes could be made I would really like this because these r the things I really miss from the franchise............. O and some thing with the Franchise mode, its really sucks now 04 was 100% better

    Thank you,

    HEY GUYS,

    FIRST THINGS FIRST:

I LOVE WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING WITH MADDEN NFL 10. ITS LOOKING TO BE A VERY AMAZING GAME. HONESTLY! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EA!!!!

    SECOND:

I THINK US FANS WOULD LOVE TO SEE EVEN MORE BIG HIT AND TACKLE ANIMATIONS. THE ANIMATIONS FOR 09 WERE SPECTACULAR BUT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE A WIDER RANGE OF TACKLES. I WOULD ALSO LOVE TO SEE PLAYER SPECIFIC TACKLES LIKE BRIAN DAWKIN'S SUPLEX AND MORE DEFENSIVE CELEBRATIONS LIKE RAY LEWIS' CELEBRATION DANCE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A WIDER RANGE OF CELEBRATIONS ON OFFENSE THEN ON DEFENSE. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU GUYS COULD MAKE IT EQUAL.

    THIRD:

    A VERY BROAD QUESTION:

WILL PLAYERS WHO DIDN'T HAVE WEAPONS ON MADDEN NFL 09 HAVE WEAPONS ON MADDEN NFL 10?

IN CONCLUSION, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HARD WORK. IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi, my name is Dee Summers. I wasnt quite sure where to put this idea. However, i think it would be awesome if there was a way you could create your own playbook. I mean take some out of the 4-6 D you like and mix it with the 3-4 you like etc. etc. same on offense take what you like out of the full house and mix it with the guns etc. etc. & be able to save it and use it online !! PLEASE make this happen it would be so SWEET yeah ?? thanks, D. Summers Reno Nevada aka XX43SUMMERS43XX

  • Gamblor NY said February 16, 2009

Ideas that you people come up with and share about franchise modes and things like that are great, and I think you guys are very creative. However, I, and other players like me, don't care about much outside of ranked online play. These are the problems as I see them:

    1) Connection glitches and cheats that allow people to just cancel out the entire game once they can't win.

1a) After my opponent quits, and I choose o finish against the CPU, why can the CPU defense psychically adapt to my plays? I run my entire offense from the singleback ace formation, so when I audible to a run, nobody moves, nothing changes, but the defense will fall into a 43 over run blitz from the nickel zone it was in before I audibled.

    2) Currently, there is no way to stop a QB sneak. I haven't seen anyone punt from 4th and 1 or less in literally months, because the QB Sneak is 99.9% against any defense in that situation. I say 99.9% not as an exaggeration, but because my honest estimation is I think I stopped it once in around a thousand attempts, any manner of goal line, jam middle or goal line, blitz A/B/C, with line pinched in and all.

    3) I think the weather should always be fair/0mph in ranked games, like it was i Madden 08. I know the variability is realistic and changes things up, but when I choose a team for its juking RBs and good man-coverage CBs only to see it's raining and 14mph winds, thus making both of those assets useless, I get frustrated because the win/loss MATTERS to me. My record matters to me, and sometimes, depending on which teams are involved, that win/loss stems significantly from the whatever weather the RNG deemed appropriate.

    4) Every year, little stupid infantile tricks start appearing. In earlier years it was the nanoblitz, then the WR double pass last year, this year it's the Raiders with Russell sprinting around the backfield until the coverage breaks down then flipping it anywhere in the 360 degree arc he wants with perfect accuracy. While not putting you or EA Sports down, I'd like to offer the example of Bungie. I don't think any company does as good a job of monitoring it's matchmade Halo games, and adjusting maps/rules to defeat these tricks, and banning payers for cheating, than they do. Please help police ranked matches.

    5) If a player is injured on the roster (as opposed to during the game): If we can't use him, don't let him get subbed back in at full strength. If we can use hi, put him in te right spot in the depth chart. Every ranked game begins with a pause for both players to go in and get their injured starters back in.

Please, EA Sports. I love Madden, I buy it every year and urge my friends to do the same. I put a lot into the community, but a lot of times I feel like no one hears my concerns. Every forum is flooded with requests/criticisms related to animations, and franchise mode, and such, and it seems like the attitude is that hardcore, must-win, ranked match players like me are perceived as the fringe, or cynical, or not part of the spirit of the community. I know I can't dictate to you what features to work on, and as far as the connection cheating, it's difficult to stop and I know it isn't like you can just decide to add .allowCheat(false) to some section of code, but I hope someone knows that there are players out there to whom this kind of thing really is important, and animations aren't.

    Thanks for an excellent game.

    To "jmac11qb"

Thanks for the love.  But still, Brady can not throw 70 yards.  No matter how much Matt Damond and Ben Afflack pay the guys at EA, Brady can not throw 70 yards in real life.  Remember the super-bowl two years ago?  Standing on the 40 he could not throw it into the end-zone.  I think he only made it to the 10 yard line (which would only be 50 yards).  A 70 yard pass would be standing on the 30 yard line and chucking it into the end-zone.  I forgot to even mention the Brady to Moss glitch.  And when you run the no-huddle; do subs still run on the field?  They have to, especially if the receivers are running deep or complex routs.

I agree whole heartily with Gamblor.  I have bought into the Madden franchise every year of it's existence.  Since on-line play was introduced, thats all I play. But the glitches make the game uninteresting.  It is rare that someone will choose their favorite team, line up and play.  Although I do like the weather changes.

I would implore the collective of EA to play more on-line to catch the glitches and do something to fix them.

no gamblor with all do respect madden has always catered to the hardcore players.i do feel where you are coming from cause i play online heavy and the reason i do play online heavy because one i love the head to head competetion and two because of the lack of focus in the franchise mode its just boring have not been good since 04-05.now animations are huge have you ever threw a screen pass and your man ran three yards back for no reason?or you throw a pass to your reciever and the lb,saftey,cb is 5-10 yards away but when you catch it the wr takes so long to gather himself that he gets hit sticked then what do you know fumble or incomplete pass.dude i was playing a nfc championship game on my online league and ea caused me a chance to go to the bowl and win 500 dollars.i had a man wide open on a drag route no pressure on the qb i lead pass in front of him cause he open the dam game throws the ball behind him i get the stupid jump in the air and turns backwards to catch the dam ball animation so it gave the cb time to come over and make the tackle.animations are huge!!!!!!!!!!

    To "sportyfoot"

true thing about the superbowl and that stuff. im not completely disagreeing with you either. i dont think that they should just let tom brady toss it up to moss for 70 yards all the time.. i think that stamana for the QB should effect how far he can throw it aswell as throw power. cause it is deffinitly unfar for someone using the pats to just bomb it every single play because its nearly unstopable. like if tom brady just threw a 50 yard passs, or just got sacked hard, or has been running hurry ups (which your right about) for a while, then he shouldnt be able to bomb it forever. I think they should bring in a sort of "heart" or "winning desire" component to each player aswell that sort of gives them a subtle boost when loosing in the 2 minute warning or something like that. i think that this would make it more realistic because really, in game someone like phillip rivers cant bomb it..but in real life he can probably send that ball flying..thats just not san diegos offense. but what is the point of a last second hail mary if the qb cant throw it deep. i mean, they are in the NFL for a reason so they must have a decent arm.

  • element27 said February 16, 2009

If you guys are really trying to improve the game you need to make translation of difficulty better. Instead of having the CPU know my play and call the perfect defense for it, and make the opposing team better than your similarly rated players, make the CPU think more intelligently; clock management, hurry-up offense, exploiting a weakness, etc. Don't just make the CPU's o-line impenetrable and the QB laser accurate, make the game play more like a human player. I know you guys can come up with an algorithm that allows for an attack that exploits a *** in someone's armor and football IQ. Also allow for more animations, you guys realize NFL 2K5 still beats the pants off your game as far as animations are concerned? Give the QB an avoid move and, based on scrambling ratings, give him the ability to avoid the rush, not just roll out of the pocket. Just make the game respond more realistically by not having guys break 20 tackles for a score, and time shift tackles and blocks, and dreaded spin-catch speed boosts and unstoppable QB sneaks. Watch some NFL game film and try to recreate how the game plays in real life, because to be good in your game I find myself using reverse logic and running the same 3-5 "money" plays and instead of scoring when there is a minute left, I run out of bounds at the 1, kneel twice and then run two QB sneaks to burn my opponents timeouts and clock. Last time I checked that is not very real, I know you guys have only one year to make these, but I have not bought a game since 2003 from EA concerning football because the game does not feel like the real thing. I still rent your game and play, but I would never purchase a game until it got my realistic stamp of approval. I mean in Madden 09 I went 12-4, 10-6, 12-4 and 15-1 my first four years with the St. Louis Rams!!!!! I won the SB three out of my first four years with the team on All-Madden with max sliders and default rosters, and the reason why I could not lose? The A.I. is predictable, gimmicky and does not behave like a human player would. If your game was more focused on realism rather than the big play and flashiness I seriously doubt I could have won three out of four. And again, instead of making the difficulty into a B.S. meter on how crazy good the CPU player's abilities are, make the game think!!!! Hire a football guru that knows the intricacies of plays and defenses and put his knowledge into the game, force the game to respect the laws of physics so we don't have animations were the guy gets stood up, then magically falls forward even though his momentum was halted totally. Also make the defenses disguise their protection, have it where CB's in zone coverage line up and act as if they are in man, then when the ball snaps they break into their zones, a la *** Lebeau style. It is still too easy to figure out whether the D is in man or zone, confuse people! Does John actually look at some gameplay footage? Ask him if that looks real, and don't sugarcoat B.S. and ramble on about these new technologies that do this and that, simply ask, "does that look like an authentic play?" With 09, I doubt he would say yes. I am done for the time being and hope to someday upgrade my NFL 2K5 with one of your products but until you make the game less flashy and gimmicky and more about mismatches and wits and knowledge, you won't get my money.

  • element27 said February 16, 2009

One more thing, make the ratings based on real life things, like a 40-yd dash time for speed, combined squat and bench and deadlift/powerclean numbers for strength. Arm power based on max distance a QB can throw and accuracy based on completion percentage over career, etc. Also eliminate some of the stupid ratings and stick to basics, like run blocking and pass blocking for o-line, none of this convoluted footwork, etc. B.S. It is just disheartening to see most ratings other than speed and trucking mean nothing, like agility, etc. Visit you-tube and watch some of the Madden sucks videos and you'll see what I mean. Here is a prime example: www.youtube.com/watch

    And another: www.youtube.com/watch

This stuff needs to be fixed!

I think that all sounds pretty cool but i have a few things that i would like to see myself. 1st I think you guys should make online play ranked games be set on all-madden because to many plays the opposition can get lucky from a uncontrolled play with ridiculous A.I letting them run by them. 2nd players shouldnt be able to have bums on the feild who are just fast and they play as superstars.Players will put a fast cb at safety and take controll of a half of the field just because of there speed.3rd The cpu quarterbacks on all madden are just too good. You can play man to man or zone and they still have ten consecutive completions. Even back up quarterbacks with overalls under 80 are great against a user controlled team. 4th There is never any pressure that reaches a cpu quarterback. I play through my franchise and am lucky if 1 player ever reaches double digit sacks. Even elite pass rushers aren't a factor. 5th When running the ball the game sort of sucks you towards tacklers who easily can get off of Steve Hutchinson's blocks.6th I love franchise so please edit player progressions and one of the most important things is the smallest. When my team reaches a superbowl i would love to see the two different team endzones and not two crappy ones. 7th I HAVE A 47" LCD HDTV SO 1080P PLEASE NEXT YEAR. Besides all this i love the game keep it up fellas great job, im still addicted and a die hard madden gamer thanx

hey u guys seem like your on top of it. Can't wait for 2010. i do have a few suggestions.

    1.making vetrain players more valuable.

-my idea- make vets influence players on the field, just like in real life. EX: ray lewis sits middle lb, his "leadership/vet" bonus gives the 2 outside lb's some stat boost, not much just enough to prove it pays to have him on the field for every position

2.updates. you guys did ok with roster updates this last year.

-my idea- do a daily updates, improve players daily or at least weekly. if some1 has an off week. dock em down a little, player has a good week, boost him a little.

    3. screens. defending against screen passes was a big problem for me this year, and it got very popular, and it doesn't take much skill to run a screen. very affective, hard to defend, requires little skill.

-my idea- just like pass commit and run commit, make a screen commit. which will commit the side the screen is going to. leaving 1 de 1 dt and possible a outside lb to persue the qb, 1 side of db and safty stay in coverage and the rest cover the screen.    also, if your going to improve screen play.  put some tight end screens in there.

hope you take my suggestions into consideration, alot more where those came from. e-mail me at colts4life1821@yahoo.com or message me at my gamer tag colts4life1821 if you want more. feel free to pick my brain

    1) When there is 40 seconds or less in the fourth quarter, the oppisite team has no T.O. left and it's 1st-3rd down and you QB kneel it you should Have the game end right there, Instead of waiting for the clock to hit 0. It makes it look way more realistic.

    2) At the end of the game have them walk out onto the field and handshake each other. and add in soem people with Cameras and stuff.

    3) When a ball is thrown right to a defender and they put their hands up and it hits them and they just drop it, That needs to be fixed

    4) When there is a defender right in front of the reciever and the ball is thrown and the defender dose nothing he should swat it or somthing. It's very frustrating.

    5) For instance when there is a long run or long field goal you should show the player and coach facial reactions. On a reply or on teh field goals after it's kicked slow it down and switch to the players and coachs then go back to teh ball all slow. it brings a more intese eliment to the game!

    Thanks for reading!

Is this new rating systems going to make man coverage even worse? At the moment man coverage is pretty non-existent even though in reality there are teams in the NFL that play man. At is stands right now man coverage really does nothing other than cover a streak route. I can literally complete a pass with 5 people assigned to a player in man. I hope that man coverage will not disappear from the Madden world.

  • BenTheMack said February 17, 2009

Look at all of these suggestions!!!

It looks like you're only tweaking the player ratings a little?  Big deal.  Look at all of these awesome suggestions that we have been asking for for years!  How did you get your job anyways?

    1. There needs to be waaaay more people, reporters, coaches, cheerleaders on the sidelines... and better graphics and animations.

    2. How about player interviews at the end of the game... or coach interviews at halftime?

    3. What is the problem with naming a game MVP during online play?  That should be easy.

    4. More in-game player stats during online play.

    5. When a player is on a breakaway for a TD, there should be more high stepping animations you can select by pressing different buttons.  You once had this, but took it away for some unknown reason.

    6. When running the ball with a RB, you should be able to perform more quick elusive moves to fake out defenders.  I use the Vikings every game, but Adrian Peterson can barely get past his own offensive line without being bombarded by 11 defenders.

    7. It would be cool if you used more real NFL film footage during game play... maybe cut to a player on the bench/sideline after a big TD... have it be real game footage.

    8. When playing online, the weather should be the same as what it is in reality in that part of the region.

    9. One hand catches.  C'mon, this shouldn't be too hard.  I think Madden '98 had them.

    10. There needs to be waaaay more WR catching animations... if there is a tip ball, the players should be more aware of what is going on, and make an obvious effort to catch it.  One hand grabs, stretching for the pylon, and dragging the feet to name a few.

** Make the game better!  Not worse!!  Look at all of these suggestions by all of these people!!  C'mon guys! **

another thought...as much fun as it might be to "truck sproules over ray lewis" or have a whimp like limas sweed deliver a crushing hitstick blow that injures the player and causes fumbles on a kick return...maybe the "hitstick" is a problem in itself...it's too gimmicky for a simulation going for realism. it's abused and sometimes threatens to turn a pretty good simulation into a arcade farce. maybe at least there should be a limit of hitstick / highlight stick uses per on field player or user in a given time frame (per qtr. / half /etc...).

next...eliminate the neutral zone infraction   (that would be called in a game). i've gone back and looked at some games afterward where players were literally in the neutral zone or blatantly offsides but isn't called.

also, if injuries could be made to carry over from game to game online and perhaps transferred to an equivalent player if user switches team. for example....if willie parker gets injured for 4 games in a online simulation, have it actually go for the next 4 games a user plays...and if they say switch over to the chargers in their next game, have the injury transfer to LT.

and more on online ratings (for users)...they definitely need to change. players should be able to go up AND down depending on gameplay. maybe adapt the "IQ" system to online rather than just a numberic 1-99 rating. or even a seperat eoffesive, defensive and special teams ratings based on gameplay.

how about storing a game when one or both players are D/C'd? then the game could be continued after a more stable connection is made. only allow 1 player to finish the game if the other player refuses to continue.

suspend online rights to people who quit too often. or only allow people with high DNF's to go into high DNF lobbies.

oh, and i liked someone above bringing up the "fairplay" thing....i can score 2pters at will, but don't because it just isn't realistic. i like the fairplay rules as they kept jerks from being jerks just "because they can."

last, adjust the play clock to be "pro-rated" with the time of the game. if quarters are 5 minutes, then the gameclock should be adjusted as well to 14 seconds. giving some 40 seconds allows them to abuse the hot routes and other play modifiers to a ridiculous point.

    just some more brainstorming...

btw...i could give a rat's behind about the "off field" animations and such...put the energies in to creating realism off the field. worry about the fluff after the game is as good as it can be on the field.

  • sconn1 said February 17, 2009

    (there's always) one more thing....

timeouts are unfair. if the defense calls the TO, the play shouldn't start till the defense picks their next play or the TO runs the full 60.

your focuses as of late ea lets go through them.hit stick great addition but its to jucied up,qb vison i liked it but you took it away, next we have the weapons what a total waste of time of we domt know who stars are then maybe we should not play this game we know what people can do when we watch football on sunday.the spetacular catch which now is given to the secondary who bright idea was this.rewind, madden moments, virtual trainer who cares?how do you do these features and you cant get the gameplay and presentation right how bout that be yall main feature this year.thank you from one of your loyal ea customers.

  • CAMREN630 said February 17, 2009

sconn i agree with most of what you said yes on the field comes first no doubt but they come hand and hand.why cant we have the best of both worlds?ea has never focused on presentation or gameplay either.its been some gimicks as of late to make it feel so dam arcadish.i love to hit stick someone dont get it twisted but its a little too much please tone down some.for once ea i just want great gameplay and presentation.

when players get drafted-up from ncaa or as they progress in madden, could you make it so that ratings such as speed, jumping, fatigue, and other purely athletic ratings stay relatively the same, because realistically a player's 40 yard dash time doesn't change that much from college to the nfl. i'm only saying this because i've seen receivers such as anquan boldin progress up to 99 speed within three or four years of my dynasty.

  • noles 13 x 10 said February 17, 2009

also could you fix the progression system so that players who sit on the bench or in free agency for a while -- players that don't produce good stats in general -- begin to have their ratings go down. this would help because in madden 09, after four or five years of drafting-up players every team in the nfl has a 90+ HB, QB, and other positions.

  • DM92892 said February 17, 2009

    changes madden 2010 need

1.) when you have 3rd and short, bring out the chains

2.) Make the field a bit wider. In the passing game, it seems a little tight

    3.) better halftime show

  • BGdaVet924 said February 17, 2009

wat rookie drops every 3 or so passes.. i mean this is the nfl.. they wouldnt be on the field better yet the nfl if they dropped every 3 or so passes.

I hope in madden 10 whick i think should be called Madden X.. and use roman numerals for now on because 10 just doesnt sound right..

but neway i hope u can actual see the whole field while the qb is passing cuz u kno everbody doesnt have a flat screen yet cuz im tired of throwin pics in the flats due to the fact that i cant see the corner just sittin there.

Get the player sidelines more hyped... the players look like they been imported form madden 98 or somethin.. they look dead which is so unrealistic.. Give the crowd real like personalities.. i mean the crowd is just as loud when i get a first down as i do a touchdown or a pic...

Where are the referees??? ok so now we only see them or just him on a penalty..

OMG the QB SNEAK!!! the success rate of it is toooo high!!! even tho i use it myself..

Please get rid of the field goal post dunk!!! it is so uglY!!!!

Randy Moss is superman WTF?? i mean i kno he's good but he doesnt break tackles like that.. i mean he sometimes truck my safties??? come on

Must i do everything on defense?? the computer assistance just isnt aggresive enough.. i mean they see its a run play but my line backers arent crashing to the ball carrier...

Can we get some better routes for the receivers.... all of them are about the same.. can i get a zig here and a zag there....

How bout a few bad snaps sometimes... i mean every field goal snap and punt snap is perfect....

Can we get the helments flying off back?? or was that GameDay??

Can i decide wat i want to challenge??? they reviewing the fumble but i wanted to challenge the spot of the ball!!!

  • CAMREN630 said February 18, 2009

thank you get rid of the field goal celebrations i mean you guys could not make them actually dunk the ball on the post?and thats true dont make the rookie reciever or the not so good ones drop 3 or every so passes cause how will they ever grow if they keep dropping passes?then again i dont want them to play like steve smith either so ea get it together.

  • jmac11qb said February 18, 2009

oh man, something ive noticed very recently..

ill be in a quarter deffense and then the middle linebacker im not controlling might sneak up and for some reason cause me to get an encrouchement penilty. its pretty rediculous since im not even doing it.

  • noles 13 x 10 said February 19, 2009

you could try putting in a buffer zone at the line of scrimmage, like the one in ncaa basketball which stops players from dribbling out of bounds too easily

also could you make it possible to do some sort of leaping user catch with tall receivers like michael jenkins or calvin johnson. in past games if you take over control of the receiver and press the catch button all he will do is move his arms toward the ball. this doesn't allow big receivers who might be slow to be as effective as they can be in real life. add some sort of user catch!!!!

  • noles 13 x 10 said February 19, 2009

add in the wildcat formation for sure and other trick plays

for Create-A-Team add more team logos and it would be cool if you could add a function that provides a list of team nicknames (similiar to the list of player last names that nba live provides) for the user to choose from, all of which the announcers in-game can pronounce

    bring back Create-A-Playbook

  • noles 13 x 10 said February 19, 2009

ALSO EA SPORTS I LOVE MADDEN BUT PROGRESSION SUCKS PLEASE!!! CONSIDER THIS COMMENT!!!

can you develop a franchise progression system that is more rigidly based on player statistics from the current season, along with player age, amount of playing time, and current player rating. it could be based on a ration of the player's stats compared with the ideal stats for someone at his position. such as:

QB1 is 26 yrs old, so he should be getting a good amount better since he is on the way to hitting his prime

currently he is an 85 OVR and his stats for the past season were 105 QB Rating, 3000 YDs, 25 TDs, 5 INTs, 65% COMP

the set ideal stats for a QB rated 100 OVR could be 153.9 QB Rating 6000 YDs, 75 TDs, 0 INTS, 90% COMP

first you must create a key to that evaluates each stat equally for instance QB Ratings are always divided by 153.9, YDs are divided by 6000, TDs divided by 75, COMP by 90%, and INTs are divided by 25 and considered a negative

    so for QB1 his total would be 105/153.9 + 3000/6000 + 25/75 + 65/90 - 5/25 = 2.03782 and the ideal total would be 4.00000

next you multiply the ideal QB total by QB1's rating divided by 100 so 4*85/100 = 3.4 (QB1's target)

    then divided QB1's total by QB1's target so 2.03782/3.4 = 0.59936

finally take this number and divide by 2 to get a final percentage (*if the percent is any higher than 50% lower back down to 50% so use 50% as a max) so QB1's final percent is 0.59936/2 = 29.969%

next take this number and multiply by the difference between the ideal player's rating and QB1 so (100 - 85)*29.969% = 4.49518 and this number gives you the total OVR points that QB1 should progress in the offseason and these points will come from the QB attributes (thrw pwr, thrw acc, awr) and maybe some others (strength, stamina, etc.)

the QB can also gain points in running skills (speed, acceleration, jukes, elusive, trucking, etc) based on a similiar function made for RBs but edited specifically for QBs.

  • Greece Monk E said February 20, 2009

One thing i would like to see with the awaraness and ratings systems is throwing on the run.... To many times a qb runs backwards (cant see any receivers and then throws on the run). I hope that PC thing works on the qbs so if he cant see the receivers on the run then a player cant throw to the receiver just becuase they (the player) can see him.

Also its way to easy to convert on third and long and on 4th downs. I think there should be a team rating system for downs. Offenses play better on first and second down and defense step it up on third. 4th down converstions should be nearly impossible even on inches (defense should get really pyched up when a player goes for it on 4th down, espicially when you havent crossed the 50 yard line. Just a thought. Maybe comapare stats from teams conversion ratings from last year for 3rd and 4th down. Some teams are better at converting 3rd in long and 4 down conversions.

  • tannermetcalf said February 20, 2009

  • chtOGb said February 20, 2009

  • bandnerd862 said February 20, 2009

As a devoted Franchise Mode player the problem that I have is that while the rosters are always fairly accurate at the beginning of the mode, but as I add imported draft classes and progress through the season it becomes clear that the ratings warp over time, Why?:

    1. The draft classes imported from NCAA feature NO punters over 50 overall, the Quarterbacks all go in the 1st round and are 90 overall or higher etc... and the random draft classes always seem to average a notch below normal. Basically, the transformation from NCAA to Madden doesn't look anything like the transformation that the real rookies make from the last years NCAA to the current Madden.

    2. In the later ps2 Maddens there was a feature that allowed ratings adjustments every five weeks for quality plays that supplemented the traditional end of the year change. This allowed for young players on a team to take the path of a Marques Colston and build themselves into an consistent play-maker within a season. This also allowed for established stars to beginning to regress physically not only to age, but also to lack of performance.

Ultimately, what happens is that the imported draft classes give us players like a 95 overall Tim Tebow and an 89 Matt Slauson... (you get the idea). On top of this, player ratings seem very static once the player has reached about 24, and doesn't slide until they're in their thirties. For example, if hypothetical 2014 QB Kellen Clemens throws for twenty five TD's an no picks, he will improve by maybe three overall if your lucky. Meanwhile hypothetical 2011 QB, Drew Brees, throws four TD's and 11 picks doesn't decrease more than 1 or 2 points.

Without the natural circle of life of stars prematurely dropping like rocks and rookies thriving AND dying in replacement. The average player rating reaches about six or seven ticks above the starting point of the franchise, and (since contracts are based on ovr. and not ovr. relative to pool of Free Agents) the FA market begins to look like an all-star team since teams can't afford to sign Jason Taylor and hypothetical 99 overall DE Michael Johnson.

My question is: Currently, the rosters and development are not sustainable, is there a way to implement a simulated weekly DNA (akin to NBA Live 09) so that my 2025 roster looks like the one in 2010 (complete with draft busts and fallen stars etc...)?

  • UnfairDesert said February 20, 2009

i like the idea of the new ratings, but what about the idea of having something like NBA 09 with its DNA, instead, make it 4 the NFL and have like concistency of missed tackles b/c no one makes every tackle, maybe, how frequently they drop the ball and so on. also, i think that players should be able 2 change emotions an that will effect their game play in games. For example, the Tony Homo... o, i mean Romo, Witten and Owens argument, it made the 3 play extremely well, u should add something like that and their should be locker room morale, which effects how all players of the team play, for example, after losing 12 or 13, the lions became discouraged and that effected the game play of them. Me personally, i would love this b/c it adds an realism that no other sports game has dared to try, and i figured Madden being the pioneers of all the new features, should give this one a try. Anyway, i believe that you guys have made tremendous progress in the latest of Madden 2010, keep on going!!!

  • UnfairDesert said February 20, 2009

One more thing, you at Ea should add a technique attribute to the overall rating of players because to catch a ball you need technique, to tackle, you need it, to throw you need it, to run routes you need it to shake off lineman you need it , to block lineman you need it, to execute plays you need it!!! Just don't make every team the same, mix it up, make different players have different techniques and have different teams have different techniques on running plays successfully !!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK, YOU HAVE A LOT OF WORK AHEAD OF YOU GUYS........PROPS TO YOU GUYS AND THANKS FOR CONSTANTLY BRINGING US MADDEN FANATICS MORE!!!!! AND YOU ALWAYS MAKE US WANT MORE!!!!!!

  • Horton23 said February 20, 2009

liking the sounds of this new ratings... something that i hope you guys can fix is making the game an actual sim game... to many times do i play people that only run, or only run 2 pass plays... as far as running goes, you should be able to run it 90% of the time and be successful, passing i could understand if you ran different plays but yeah... i dont know how you would fix that, maybe if you ran the same set of plays so many times in a quarter or game the players fatigue and ratings would go down, or the defense would be able to either stop the run better or the pass etc etc... but bcak on topic, keep up the good work looking forward to more info on madden 10

  • LoMaWNY said February 21, 2009

Realistic ratings? yea ok... like the whole "overrated" Cowboys!!!

QB's that have high ratings don't throw picks? online players that use "Superstar" QB's who do nothing but throw it up and I cant get a pick when my defender constantly has there hands on the ball because the QB is rated 90 or better? Come on really?!?!?! How realistic is that? It's a glitchers dream come true!!! Or How about the overrated Romo?

Are you saying that my slot receiver is going to drop a wide open 5 yrd pass every 3rd time? My Grandma can catch a wide open 5 yrd pass but yet I can use a "Superstar" WR and grab every long ball no matter that he's double covered even with 90+ Corners (Moss)??? Its a Joke!!!

Man coverage.... who uses that as long as you have good protection you just have to wait till a WR runs away from the "Superstar" Corner everytime!!!

THE WORST IS WINS THAT THE COMPUTER DECIDES HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!!! YOU CAN PLAY AGAINST THE WORST PLAYER ONLINE BUT YET THE COMPUTER DECIDES THEY GET THE WIN!!! MOMENTUM IS RIDICULOUS!!! 4TH DOWN AND WHAT EVER AND YOU GET THE 1ST DOWN GIVE ME A BREAK LIKE THATS REALISTIC!!!!!

  • swillz13 said February 21, 2009

why is tony romo 92 overall he should be like 89 or something like that the cowboys are way over rated and marion barber is way to fast.

  • TrueSpartan60 said February 21, 2009

having my cousin being a top rated O-lineman for many years, i hate how the O-line gets no love. you can have a top rated lineman and get only like 20 pancakes in a season. i really hope they change that in 2010.

  • swillz13 said February 21, 2009

and another thing that makes me mad is why is al harris and terrence newman so good they don't do anything as far as ints yet they still go up al harris is the worst though he had like one int and he's 95 overall i think thats dumb

  • swillz13 said February 21, 2009

i think instead of having ratings they should do what they do in allpro just have special abilities no overall just have the player have what he plays like in real life

  • siimwii25 said February 22, 2009

this sounds great... but can double tackles be broken? like can you throw a properly timed juke and make defenders run into each other... and how is the franchise mode looking for madden 10? can you bring back the newspapers from the older madden games... i really loved that feature

  • prettyrik said February 22, 2009

This sounds great, it's about time that there was a deeper look into rating which seemed determined every outcome in the game no matter how negative, positive, or warped/morphed it may be. I just have one request you guys really need to bring back fair play. It forced people to play realistic even if they didn't like it and the games more competitive and game play more realistic. Keep up the good work, and focus on the small game play aspects of the game and you'll win over all of the real simulation madden NFL players. One last thing what can you or we do about online lag? It really kills the gaming experience seriously.

  • Jacksonville32 said February 22, 2009

This may not be the actual topic to try to get an idea posted but here goes anyway.

These are the things I would love to see in Madden NFL 10:

    1. Bring back the Chain Gang. Either Have them there to measure short yardage  situations...Or even better have the guys on the sidelines full time on both sides of the field with all the Refs (Side Line Judges) and on the field Refs, I remember back in the day the Ref would get caught inthe middle of the field of play even get tackled because he got caught in the wrong place. If he is in danger of catching a pass in the face make him aware enough to duck or even get away from being involved with a tackle.

    2.  I would love to see The strecther make a comeback onto the playing field for a player who can't get up and also have the trainers come out for the situations where a strecther isn't needed but he can't walk off the field on his power.

    3.  Lets have actual TV style presentation and atmosphere showing crowd images. show cheerleaders and mascots, you do this for the college series  why not madden. I know NFL and NCAA have different energies when it comes to fandum but never the less Madden deserves that attention as well. Have Fans Travel for they're teams and actually have they're presence felt.....Example: remember the giants superbowl run they had a few years ago now when they had they're first fans take over The New sumbrero in Tamp Bay you could clearly hear the fans chanting Defense when NY's D was on the field----that gave me chills and i'm not even a Giant fan...Or when the Steelers Travel outside of Pittsburgh (doesn't matter where) you see about 5-10 thousand Towels twirling in the air, or go to the Black whole in Oakland you are bound to see Darth Vader leading the Ruckus in the Black Hole..or in Cleveland with the Dog pound..just a few examples. And also give fans signs to hold up and also create signs.

    4. Bring back the option to control temperature settings if you aren't getting a direct feed from weather network...this ties in with the last request but have hardcore fans shirtless in sub temp weather and sane fans dress appropriately  like the fans in GreenBay (and maybe the bikini clad ladies down in Tampa.

    5. I would love to see more weather effects in the game like players sliding on the snow after making or missing a tackle or being tackled--the piles of snow were a good start. also i would love to see the players huddled around the heaters and wearing big coats and jumping up and down on the sideline. Have players (some) waer thermal gear under the helments like DB's, RB's, WR'S etc.

    6. Give us Close Ups on Coaches Faces when you are in the play calling screen (goes back to the TV style Presentation). Have players re-act to the onfield action (positive or negative) from the sideline also have them converse with coaching staff while moving around the sideline. You guys have always had sideline players over the years but no action they just float there.

    7. Give players more of a Realistic response to a play. Example: If a back only gets 1 yrd on a run he shouldn't get up throwing his hands in the air...instead he should get up and go back to the huddle kind of dejected.

    8. Give us the option once again to change camera angles to sideline for the entire game or TV Cam---why did you take it away in the first place---yeah, some people didn't like it but, I am probably in the minority that actually used it and I miss it now that it is gone...atleast it was an option.

    9. Give us the feel of a big game atmospher ( TV style again) with pre game talk (flashing back to madden 96 on PS1) with then John and Pat doing pre game stuff and James Brown introducing the game. Maybe even having the Cast from Sunday Night Football do Pregame--That would be awesome!...You're already using Chris Collinsworth.

    10. Give us a ticker that pops up the way it does on Sunday Night/ or ESPN since thats the way we are getting the streamer for real time news. Obviously have it only during Franchise play.

    11. Update the state Tracking when it comes to Sacks. Example: if Quentin Groves and John henderson get to the QB and sack him they both get credit for Half a Sack, thats a stateline that always drives me crazy that i have been thinking would be something easily corrected.

    12. Give us more control of the Challenge feature...Let's us have options on what we are challenging. Example: We should be able to challenge a QB fumbling or Passing a ball....If the pass to a receiver was completed or if he fumbled before he made a "Football move" ergo challenging the possession. You're competition at the time (NFL 2K) did a great job in the area in they're series by giving us the option to select what we were challenging on that play.

That's all I got for right now Fellas back me up and throw in some ideas I may have missed.

As a fan of the Franchise for 20+ seasons I would love to see what the next 10-20 season looks like...I feel like EA has done a subpar job when it comes to madden but they take care of the other titles liek FIFA and NCAA even the live series is Getting some attention but they have they're hands full with NBA 2K. Maybe it's because the Have the exclusive license but, this Last installment is finally a step in the right direction..I feel like they have been trying to make it easily playable for novice players and not doing enough for Hardcore fans. I love EA Sports since Madden and Bulls vs Lakers when the company was still making baby steps.

EA please remember the hardcore fans and not so much the novice players. Not sayng they don't count but they may not care one way or another about how the game should play. We( the hardcore) fans are the ones waiting there in long lines in madden release parties waiting for the game to release. I'm looking forward to this release because of the promise 2009 showed us that you are going down the right road. Give us a 95% complete game and not a 85% complete one. Love the game for what it is shaping up to possibly be finally.

  • GmanSpeaks said February 23, 2009

  • BM26 said February 24, 2009

You know I think the ratings are good. I think this increase in difference will do the game wonders. But there's one thing I think that could give Madden what it's been looking for when it comes to players in-game matching their real life counter part.

    Tendencies.

    Tenencies?

    Yes, Tendencies.

It's what sets basketball games apart from every other sports game. EA did a great job with it with Live by taking it further than I thought possible, but Madden doesn't need to take it that far. A Simple intergration of Player Tendencies can put to rest all the issues with getting the players to play like they do in real life. Stuff like Juke vs. Spin, or Truck stick vs. Highlight stick are simple, but you get even deeper stuff like Decision making tendencies that would include stuff like throwing the ball away, pocket pressence (Tendencies to regulate poise, how often a QB rolls out to avoid pressure, How often a QB Scrambles, etc.). This way, not only will Big Ben have the ability to scramble and still throw, he will have the mind set to do so more often than say Tony Romo or McNabb.

Tendencies are sort of like A.I., just broken down to each player, giving you a better feel for the Game as a replica of the NFL and a sense that it's not just random A.I.

Tendencies can personify the NFL Teams too. Catagories like percentage of Run plays versus Pass plays are obvious, but it can get a lot deeper with percentage of play types run. Like, a team like Tampa Bay, Short passes are the thing. You could have catagories that show how many times they run slants, how many times they throw the screen and how many times they go deep (In a percentage based scale). Same with the run, tell how many times they run inside, outside, between the tackles, offtackle, sweeps, tosses. It could be taken even further and you can show stuff like what and who executes certain plays. Like screens... it can be broken down further to show how much they run a WR screen versus a HB screen. You get what I'm saying, even though it doesn't need to be that detailed.

Again, the ratings range increase is exciting news that I'm looking forward to. I think Tendencies is something all sports games should have, seeing how much of an affect if has on Basketball games, and one I think the Madden team should incorporate if not now, soon.

    Keep up the work guys.

I am sorry if somebody said this already but i didn't wanna ready all that but i really do believe that i have another way to put Greats far from Average players. Since players basically have the weapons features and they all have like just 1 colored weapon, i believe that they should have a weapon feature of Bronze, Silver, and Gold.Gold obviously being the best. So like players Like Larry Fitzgerald would have Gold Hands,a guy like Eddie Royal would have silver hands, and a guy like Malcolm Jenkins would have bronze hands. And lesser Wide receievers would have no weapon at all. But Fitz would have Silver speed weapon, and Eddie royal would have the Gold speed weapon. I dont know, i just think it would also help differentiate greats from average players. Yall could probably better do it but im just trying to give examples on what i mean

I think it's a great idea, although I'd like to see it a little more extreme. I think if a player is rated 99 in something, they shouldn't just be quite good, they should be EPIC... like.. the greatest to ever play the game. I think at the moment it's too easy to find players rated 99 in something. I think it should be a real challenge to get the highest rating possible, and I think when you get there it should make a HUGE difference.

Basically, I'd like to see it all moved back and have even fewer people rated in the 90s, with virtually no one rated 99.

I still would like to see multiple weapons given more effect. So like Adrian Peterson who should be a Truck and Elusive back should have a combined weapon where if there is like a CB he can truck him more effective (or switch the weapon he's using) a slower DL/LB he can juke (elusive weapon) or just plain run around him (speed weapon). This is much more realistic then just set weapon players use because they don't always only use one weapon. This can be applied for ALL positions and needs to be.

Customizable Eye Black and Nose strips(Think Ray Lewis)and 2nd team color gloves and wristbands/sleeves... the Dolphins dont wear green gloves they wear orange as do the broncos, giants wear red gloves on the road and with alternate jersey, the titans, bills and patriots wear red gloves alot, its 2010 next gen lets make it happen...

I don't know if anyone will read this, but here's my biggest beefs with the current player ratings.

    1) they don't seem to work...When Devin Hester is getting chased down by a 3rd string linebacker on Special Teams, something is amiss.  Even if the difficulty rating is All-Madden, the ratings should still be relative and guys like Hester shouldn't suddenly become ineffective without having to suddenly break 9 tackles. It sounds like the new ratings your making may help correct this, and here's hoping, but I'll have to see it to believe it.

    2) After the draft. In Franchise mode, when drafting, it is impossible to get "value" picks.  You never see a Marques Colston or a Tom Brady happen in the in game drafts.  If a QB goes in the 6th round, he's got a TP of 64 and TA of 72 and needs 6 years of training before he makes for a decent 2nd string QB. This seems to be pretty much the case for anyone drafted past the 3rd round. There seems to be no basis of potential, at least not that's discernible by the we the users, that portrays how well a player will develop.

    3) The players don't ever really seem to develop, or rate, according to their performance.  In Madden 09, I went season after season with Matt Forte going for 2000+ yards and 20TDs (All Pro) every season and his OVR hasn't reached over 94. Meanwhile, with training sessions, his role stats are all peaked at 99 which still doesn't phase the OVR. Now were an actual player to do that (LT [OVR 99], Devin Hester [SPD 100], and even young players like Adrian Peterson who become an early phenom), he'd be the most talked about and highest rated player in all of NFL history, but the game doesn't compensate for these kinds of achievements.

Do the ratings effect performance, or does the performance effect the ratings? The way the game is setup now, the players are limited to their given, predetermined ratings with no potential meter that allows them to supersede those preconditions. Making, as I said before, the Marques Colstons impossible to suddenly show up out of nowhere. I hope all of that made sense, and I really hope that some super corrections to these kinds of issues will be made.

WOW NICE. I like that new feature.

Off topic. All i play is online, Im top 200 rank in madden09. And you guys really need to change the online leader board. free wining. top 5 players free win.

buy creating other accounts and boosting there own profile. You can tell by look at there recent games. they beat the same guy over and over 21 nothing. they have DET and the guy they beat has PATS or DAL. It hurts the online experience. I got up to rank 26 and stopped playing in DEC b/c everyone above me in rank Free wins.

I really dont know how you guys can stop this. but saying "someone free wins or glitches in a lobby" does nothing.

You guys should also should add online practice mode, fair play, "Why have a commercial with John Madden saying he doesn't like people going for it on there 20 yard line when its 4th and 15+?" other jerseys, This is a BIG one. you had it in

06 or 07. BEING able to take plays from a play book and create a custom playbook.

and let us take it online. Playbooks are a BIG part of MADDEN. Real life coach's can have any play they want. Why can't we?

Im commented to making madden online more sim/real. I going to be creating E-books for different teams and giving them away for FREE. if you guys are going to have the only NFL game. then do it right. and after seeing theses 2010 posts, I proud to have EA making MADDEN. GREAT JOB and please feel free to contact me at Rickey419@hotmail.com or xbox gamer tag NWCollapse419

you said that chris johnson is beast to stop when there is a sweep to the outside. sweeps rarely work in the NFL anymore. especially with the speed these players have now. i better not be playing someone and all they do is toss it to CJ and he gets 10 yards every time. it should be much harder to convert 1st downs and drive down the field. i dont know how many times i played someone online and either i got blown out or i blown out my opponent. scoring 42-50 points a game doesnt happen all the time in the NFL. it usually never happens at matter of fact. just look at ESPN 2K5...that was the best football game ever and i still play it. until madden changes like 2k5. im not buying it..i will just rent it.

I think it would be great to see statistics more specific for each position. Or better yet having more different categories when rating. For example accuracy doesn't take into account whether the QB is still accurate on the run. Some QB's like Big Ben are more accurate on the run then say Eli Manning and that should be reflected.

    EA_DonnyMoore said February 09, 2009

CAMREN630 - Dwayne Bowe is currently an 86.

Gotham7 - I think you will be more than pleased with 10 my friend.

SteelerSpartan - Trust me, everyone is on the same page as you.  Everyone on the Madden production team has their eyes on this.

Donny Moore...I just realized that you sort of gave away the QB improvements with this reply. Wow...That is crazy. He pretty much hit the jackpot with that comment, saying exactly what you guys already implemented and you pretty much told him (us) that it is in the game 2 weeks before you announced it. That is sick. And then you replied to Steeler Spartan about suction blocking.

I already assumed that this weeks update would be either OL/DL interaction or WR/DB interaction and it was WR/DB. So I'm guessing that soon it will be OL/DL and it will include info that suction blocking and tackling are a thing of the pass. I really hope you reply and I really hope that I am right...please let me be right!!

one suggestion for player ratings, although there is already awareness, I think there should be a Clutch rating. And this factors how players do in key moments in games. It could lower or raise their stats depending on their history in clutch moments. Tom Brady would be Clutchy McClutcherson while Tony Romo would be wearing his Choke Pants on game day. Just an idea.

  • thomasgrayMT said March 10, 2009

Excellent news.  This was sorely needed.

And as a couple of other posters have mentioned, we could maybe do with one or two adjustments to the way QBs are rated.  What someone said about Ben Roethlisberger - a separate QB skill that determines how hard they are to bring down a-la Big Ben and maybe a skill that determines how difficult they are to get your hands on at all a-la Donovan McNabb or Jeff Garcia.

  • FlyEaglesFly20 said March 10, 2009

I think a leadership rating should be added. Getting fired up and ready to play is big in the NFL and there should be a rating that determines how fired up the team can get. Maybe just a team rating based on who is on the team and the coaching staff. I would like to see some kind of change based on the leadership or motivation factor. Maybe like the effect of Dawkins or Ray lewis on your team can get the team fired up for a big game.

  • Wallee said March 10, 2009

This is more of a scheme suggestion, Madden should idenify what kind of defense a player fits better in and adjust the rating accordingly.  For example, a DE at a 4-3 will have to play OLB in a 3-4 scheme because of the size and speed this type of player.  DeMarcus Ware for example would be a great 3-4 OLB, but I am not sure he can play a 4-3 OLB.  Same goes for other position on Defense.

  • crazytoothfairy said March 10, 2009

give the every day player the ability to make there own offense and defense plays!

and not even make there own plays it could be more like only having your plays that you want on both sides of the ball soo you dont have to go with the same thing over and over.

and let that person use there created playbook online!

somehow also fix playbook glitches if you agree on the concept

finally, i agree wildcat would be fun but somehow fix the glitch

PLEASE: I dream of a day where I can actually move the running back with controls similar to NBA live using both joysticks right for right, left joystick to cut left, how about BOTH up to bash a player, and hit the joystick down for sprint instead of the huge r2! THE GLORY IS with the RB, why always the controls for the qb?

I hope you make the hits easier to lay some one out, the whole hit stick thing never does quite jive: how about a similar joystick control for linebackers as well, left right hit would be down instead of up.

In the old old 95 madden years I loved to just be reggie white and put pressure,

it takes so much tricks and touches and you can never really slam the linemen like you used to!

Why even let us 'see' the ratings?  What other game allows you to view the rating system like this?  Do you know how high Mario's jump is compared to Sonic's?  No!  That's one thing 2K Sports got right with their ability system.  Get rid of the foolish numbers, and use Player Abilities in conjunction with real world information (bench weight / reps, 40 speed, and the like) to convey a player's ability.  This is what coaches use, and this accurately represents the game.  The numbers are HIGHLY unrealistic and there's no reason that a player of the game should see them.

Does a coach on Sunday look at the line up and say 'crap, my WR is an 80, and the CB covering him is a 99, we're in trouble!'.  No!

Player ratings are legacy of a lazy product design.  Get rid of them.  Make the game real.

  • BM26 said March 14, 2009

Valdarez... I don't understand where you're coming from, to be honest. To start, 2K games have TONS of ratings. NFL 2k5 had them, only APF 2K8 didn't (Which made it very lame and hard to differentiate between Scrubs and Jerry Rice.). But 2K sports has a lot of ratings, just look at NBA 2k9! And honestly, I don't think there is an accurate method outside of a ratings system that provides accurate real-time abilities AS WELL as accurate and controllable GROWTH.

It could be possible to take every last one of the 1500+ players in the nfl, give them certain abilities, player specific animations, different speed, etc. BUT... when you play a franchise mode, what would happen after a year or two? Without rating's there's just TOO MUCH work and almost no chance at all for growth (What about the randomly generated players?).

All I'm saying is, every sports game has ratings for a reason. I say overhaul it to include every last aspect of a player, not get rid of it. It's just the way it is.

  • GSpro said March 14, 2009

-Please don't use Tom Hammond as a commentator!

-I don't think it's right to have a receiver's speed set slower then a corner's. (WR lowest being 70, compared to 75 for a corner.)

-You should be allowed to taunt a player yourself. Almost like TD celebrations... each button should have something to say about your oppenent.

-TD celebrations should be customizable. Sorta like NFL 2k5 you were able to set certain celebrations for each button.

-You should be able to attempt to talk a player out of retirement. I played as the 49ers in my first franchise and WR Isaac Bruce retired after my first season! Seems like most playerd once they get 31+ in Madden retire.

-Definately need to work on the fans.. that just takes away from the whole gameplay.

-Should have front office mode.. where you set ticket/food prices, have a fan appreciation day, etc.

    -Have the team matchups again!

    -Bring back the squib kicks!

  • kennylc812 said March 19, 2009

If you are going to add more ratings, I think it only makes sense that you get rid of ratings that are not relevant to the positions. Why do I have to scroll through throw power, throw accuracy, catch, carry, etc etc when all I want is to see is how my OL will block?

  • deadgrnlntrn said March 27, 2009

It would be good to see EA address not only the realism on a game to game basis, but for the long haul in franchise mode as well. I was amazed at how little of the previously robust franchise features from 08 made it into 09. This was certainly not addition by subtraction. You cannot control ticket & merch pricing, you cannot see attributes for coaches, there is no news recap of players wanting to be traded, holding out, gaining/losing morale, or of coaches retiring, (they just disappear).

Progression has always been an issue with Madden, but 09 took a step back. It takes about three seasons to have every team have at least 3-4 players with 99 speed. Players with banner years do not progress. Players who rode the bench the entire year go up 10 pts overall, yet have no individual attributes that progress.

To be truly realistic, players should not be able to improve speed in drills. It also seems in an effort to put less into this side of the game, drills were consolidated to the point where they make little sense. I do not see how busting a 40 yd dash will improve kick accuracy. Drills should be specific to the attributes they improve.

While I have heard that bench press drills are used to rehab injuries (???), I have yet to see an injury you are even allowed to rehab. You should receive points, based on both the overall ratings of your training staff and your on field performance, that you can spend towards rehabbing an injury. The rate of success, or the number of weeks pared off the recovery time, should also factor in the player's toughness, with injury frequency and severity dictated by the overall injury rating.

The in game injuries also need tweaking, as there seem to be 10-12 abdominal strains and bruised sternums, with no serious injuries, per game. How about bringing back sliders to customize something like this, not to mention specific parts of the game (block breaking, CB reaction, etc, instead of just "pass defense" & "run defense", isn't that a bit broad ?)

Finally, it would be nice if computer players could record pancakes....EVER....in a non simulated game. You can do this yourself in 2 player, but can look forward to about 10-15 apiece (if that) for each O-lineman if you choose to play every game.

    Hey guys,

Can you bring back multiple profiles??  My friends and I get together and draft our own teams and play each other on one console. Every time we play we have to do our playbooks, audibles, etc.  Also, on the fantasy draft could you adjust it so we can trade picks.  For example: If I get the #1 overall pick can I trade it down?  Will the new rating system make de's and olb's more accurate.  Right now if you convert Terrell Suggs to de he becomes 99 overall.  And can you make the draft more random?  We start to anticipate the draft order and load up. Can players become fully customizable on the depth chart?  Right now if i want to run a wildcat style offense i have to convert my rb or wr to qb and then i cant use them at their normal position.  Trick plays, can you bring them back as well.  I would love more features with the fantasy draft.  We want to hold tourneys where you can draft your own team.  I appreciate your hard work! Thanks

Put in better drills to increase player ratings the bench-press and forty are not things players actually do get stronger and faster.  The first and last forty dashes players run is at the combine and at their pro-day- so that should be scratched for training mode.  I kinda like the drills that were in Madden 06 and 07- if some form of those drills were brought back that would be cool.

Kind of worried about this one, it kind of plays into my predetermined difficulty blog where I spoke about a player being able to do something a set number of times. Even if a players ratings is low, we have to remember that that player is in the NFL and you don't get there by luck. In any NFL game a player can dominate regardless how well people thought they were, same with a elite player playing poorly. So does this mean that because of Domenik Hixon's ratings he can only have a certain number of catches in a game because of his ratings, I like the concept, but it sounds like it needs to be tweaked a little.

I hope the "Speed" will be positional based rather than based on 40 times or maybe they should make a new catagory called football quickness.

As an example, the Steelers OLBs were much too slow.  In real life Woodly and Harrison really get at a QB quickly.  In the game they were super slow...maybe just because they don't run fast 40 times.  This is a problem.  Maybe they could call the catagory QFP (Quickness for position).

While we are talking about player ratings and Superstars, you should include an option to TURN OFF the "SMART QB".  Many of us feel this is unfair.  They already made Brady, Manning and Warner good enough.  They don't need the additional edge of being able to see your defense.  It's not fair.  If both sides would like to turn it off, the option should be there.  The smart defensive players are fine.  It is OK to force the offense to use multiple plays but the reverse is not fair.  As an example, the offense can call no huddles forcing you to use your audibled defense multiple times.  The defense can't force the offense to use the same play by making them come to the like quickly.  So please, just get rid of it or give us an option to turn it off.

    PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Fix.

There should be an option where the game remembers how you like your starters and depth chart.  If they can remember audibles so we don't have to make changes at the beginning of every game, why can't the computer remember your depth chart order?  Even if it is reset with each Roster update and we have to redo our depth chart once a week, that's better than nothing.  That's better than doing it over EVERY SINGLE GAME.

I know you let us in on that secret that the overall team ratings and offensive and defensive ratings mean nothing.  Only the individual player rating count.  Wellif that's the case, you need to increase the value of each and every Steeler defensive player so they play like the number one defense.

I remember an interview with one of your designers where this issue was challenged last year and the designer said for the Steelers the player just has to choose the right plays because it is the Steelers plays that make them a great defense.  That is hogwash.  They have the same 3-4 defensive playbook as other teams in the game.

So if being the number 1 defense is not going to mean anything, please upgrade each of the individual players so that the effect come through or point out which specific defenses from the playbook you designed to hep the Steelers reflect their dominance in real life.

    Thanks

Yes, the Steelers had the #1 Pass Defense, so it should not be easy to pass against them..

I think that the players idea is good, but when a player gets injured on the field, to make the game more realistic, you should make coaches run out there and help them...... like in the real games

  • warrior310 said May 07, 2009

um if you saw the jimmy fallon video, they will have that.

  • silverback92 said May 29, 2009

you should make Mike Wallace faster he ran a 4.33 40 and he only has 93 speed, another thing is that in madden 09 when you play mini games multilayer, if you pick the Steelers you don't get to use Willie parker even though he was the starter and in the coverage challenge you don't get to use Santonio Holmes, but you do get to use Limas Sweed who was the forth receiver.

FU!

  • warrior310 said July 16, 2009

then dont buy the game stupid

  • snrexpress said July 17, 2009

"Let me tell you, these rating drops make a big difference when that slot rookie WR with 90+ speed now drops every 3rd pass or so, or just simply cannot get open."

Come on EA, i dont care how "weak" a wr is guess what? hes still and NFL wr!!! so this comment of "...drops every 3rd pass..." is bullshit, what wr drops every 3rd pass to him? ill tell you, a *** thats not in the NFL

alright here are some numbers to prove a point I will list the Kansas City Chiefs ratings released, their overall rating is 69 as a team overall rating.   Qb Matt Cassel overall 83(did I mentioned he helped them get a 93 overall rating for the Pats lol)   RB Larry johnson 88 overall  FB Mike Cox 70 overall WR's  D Bowe 86 Bobby Engram 76 TE brad Cottam 72 LT B Albert  84 LG B Waters 94 C Rudy N 75 RG M Goff 80 Rt D Macintosh 71  RE G Dorsey(was an 83 last year) 75 NT R Edwards 69 LE Tyson Jackson( 3rd overall in this years draft) 77 OLB 60 something MLB D johnson 83  Z thomas 81 m Vrabel 80 ROLB 60 something CB B Flowers 77 CB B Carr 71  FS  J page  77  SS B Pollard  78  K C Barth  60 something  P Dustin C  78      So if you suffered through looking at the ratings you will see their only 4 people ranked below 70 ++ but their team rating is 69 Overall,, you tell me how your give them an overall team rank of 69 if you think they are ok or better in individual rankings?  I KNOW THEIR RECORD SUCKED, but my point is Madden developers are in need of revamping the rating and the Ai to upgrade rankings better!!!

If you make the the bottom players lower it will not increase game play you do that through AI. If your going to widen the range you water down the game play. Their should not be anyone in the NFL in their 50's or 60's and as slow as the game adjusts to good seasons(attributes increase at about 3 to 5 per season) it will always affect gameplay. If you make the gap too big then you will have top receivers always open because you rated the DB or safeties to slow to keep up,If you make the RB unbelievably strong then no one can tackle them. I am all for an entertaining game, but don't call it realistic if you water it down so the SuperStars make guys look like they don't belong on an NFL team.. Their should never be an incredible(20 pt) diffence in one player to the next. One last point, I no some people drop balls when play in the NFL and in real life but making WR /TE /RB drop the balls all the time or every 3rd time does not increase realism, If they did that in the NFL they would not be on any team... I know you guys have a difficult task but paper and stats are not the only way to make ratings look and see if they have improved, see if the team suffered because of a key injury(like if the QB goes down everybody WR/TE/RB the whole offense) should not suffer ratings drop. You have a chance to really make the fans enjoy your product!!!
