1

Jason Smith, Baylor, OT

New Detroit Front Office takes a page from the Dolphins draft playbook from last year with the safe tackle pick (Jake Long).

2

Eugene Monroe, Virginia, OT

Orlando Pace replacement, similar skill set, elite pass protection potential.

3

Brian Orakpo, Texas, OLB

KC pass rush was non-existent in '08...Orakpo provides bigger boost to defense with his ability to rush the passer.

4

Aaron Curry, Wake Forest, OLB

Seahawks and Jim Mora take about 5 seconds to make this pick...The perfect Julian Peterson replacement.

5

Everette Brown, Florida State, OLB

With Orakpo/Curry gone, E. Brown the next best option for Browns defense...Cleveland might not want another 1st round FSU pass rusher (K. Wimbley).

6

B.J. Raji, Boston College, DT

Marvin Lewis finally gets his franchise DT in Raji...makings of a great defensive tackle unit with Peko/Pat Sims already in place.

7

Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech, WR

Jeremy Maclin the other potential choice, Al Davis making it a point to get JaMarcus some weapons...Davis makes the conventional pick for once in Crabtree.

8

Matthew Stafford, Georgia, QB

New Jacksonville GM Gene Smith gets his QB of the future in Stafford...Jack Del Rio on razor thin ice for '09 season.

9

Aaron Maybin, Penn State, OLB

Pack need a pass rusher opposite Aaron Kampman in new 3-4 defense...Maybin bit of a stretch pick at #9 overall.

10

Andre Smith, Alabama, OT

Smith has elite potential/enormous risk...Does fill big void on San Fran O-Line.

11

Brian Cushing, USC, OLB

Buffalo usually drafts as boring as any team in the league, this pick no different...Cushing is a *** Jauron type player...Will look great next to Posluszny for the next 5+ years.

12

Mark Sanchez, USC, QB

Jay Cutler will be gone from Denver by draft day...McDaniels gets "his" guy in Sanchez...Might start from Day 1.

13

Michael Oher, Ole Miss, OT

Redskins never afraid to make the risky pick...Oher ultimate boom/bust player this year, a potential Top 5 Overall player...Jansen/Samuels getting old, O-Line needs a boost.

14

Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State, CB

Immidiate shot in the arm for the Saints secondary...Not looking bad after Darren Sharper/Jabari Greer free agent signings.

15

Jeremy Maclin, Missouri, WR

Defense thought to be the pick, but Gary Kubiak gets his offensive weapon in Maclin...Can also help right away with returns.

16

Tyson Jackson, LSU, DE

Igor Olshansky replacement...Tyson Jackson a rock solid, no downside type of prospect

17

Josh Freeman, Kansas State, QB

Jets need options at QB and Freeman has great potential...Might have best arm in class.

18

Eben Britton, Arizona, OT

Bears need some O-Line depth, last year's first round pick Chris Williams not a lock after missing all of '08.

19

Peria Jerry, Ole Miss, DT

Explosive, Warren Sapp-ish DT prospect the Bucs sorely need for the Tampa 2 to succeed.

20

Robert Ayers, Tennessee, DE

Jim Schwartz gets his defensive stud to build around...Ayers great against the run and pass.

21

Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State, TE

Huge hole at TE filled by Pettigrew...Huge plus that he blocks like an offensive tackle.

22

Hakeem Nicks, North Carolina, WR

Big, west coast WR who will catch a lot of balls in a Brad Childress offense...Might not start day 1, but will be huge factor by middle of season.

23

Clint Sintim, Virginia, OLB

The Patriots linebackers are getting up in years and Sintim is a versatile guy...He can line up inside or outside.

24

Vontae Davis, Illinois, CB

Atlanta secondary needs help and TE Vernon Davis lil' bro Vontae brings great speed and man covers skills to the table.

25

Clay Matthews, USC, OLB

Parcells will fall in love with NFL bloodline...CM3 will be a great fit rushing the passer in the Dolphins 3-4.

26

Rey Maualuga, USC, ILB

Ravens thrilled Maualuga slips to the end of round 1...Rey will team with Ray in the middle of the Ravens defense.

27

Percy Harvin, Florida, WR

Perfect new weapon for Peyton and OC Tom Moore...He will be used as a WR and Reggie Bush-type RB.

28

Chris Wells, Ohio State, RB

Thunder has now arrived in the Philadelphia backfield...Eagles offense gets WAY better with addition of Pettigrew/Wells.

29

Kenny Britt, Rutgers, WR

Just in case Plaxico can't make it back from legal troubles, Kenny Britt a great young talent for Eli and Giants offense.

30

Derrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland, WR

Titans finally get that elite deep speed weapon (4.30) they have been looking for...DHB might start Week 1 with that weak WR corp.

31

Knowshon Moreno, Georgia, RB

Look for Knowshon to get all of the Edge carries (after Edge gets released)...Huge fantasy sleeper for 2009.

32

Darius Butler, Connecticut, CB

Great 40 time, great size, fills big need in Pittsburgh secondary after B. McFadden left for Arizona.

I love that you are going to release their rating live that is sweet. I have a question about one of the picks. As a falcon fan I follow them rather closely and I dont know why they would take another young corner. I just wanted to see why. And I am not attacking.

  • chrispepper said April 02, 2009

A nice mock draft but I really cant see Aaron Curry getting past 3. If not taken by the lions im sure kansas wil not be able to pass on the best player in the draft.

I also think Matt stafford will be taken at no.1. I dont know if you have made the mock on what you think will happen or what you think should happen but if that is how you think it SHOULD I agree with you. Lions should wait for sam bradford next year but I doubt they can pass on Matt Stafford.

Releasing the ratings live is a very cool idea as well :)

YAH THE TITIANS ARE HOPEFULLY GETTING Derrius Heyward WE NEED A WR WITH SPEED 4.30=BEAST

  • Mr FoReNziKs 3M said April 02, 2009

Quick comment. Please reset the records for Madden 10. It's a new season and people (well I can only speak for myself) want to start off w/ fresh new record as well. In 2010 all the teams will start 0-0 so should the madden community. As for my Patriots I would like for them to grab Percy Harvin of the Gators. I think w/ him he becomes the Chris Johnson / Reggie Bush Hybrid that can return punts and kicks. We definately can use him in our Urban Meyer Happy offense.......LOL

  • Playakev21 said April 02, 2009

DOES anyone or is it just me see that he put clint sintim to the pats over james larinitus, i think it was just a mistake as ive done several mock draft and accidently completely forgot about a particular player...but i for one believe if james larinitus is still on the board by the time new england picks that they'll snatch him up!!!

  • wesser260 said April 03, 2009

By far the WORST mock draft ive ever seen....honestly lookin at this just pisses me off.....Donny Moore you must be retarded....you got Darrius Heyward Bey fallin all they way to 30???? NO WAY......Rey Maualuga droppin to 26..NOT GONNA HAPPEN..if the bears still had the 18th pick they wouldnt get no damn eben britton they woulda got a WR thats why they kept signing o-line men this off season...Sanchez will be easily a top 10 probably a top 5....and you got KC taking Orakpo over Curry the top defensive prospect coming out...Vontae Davis stock has rose alot since the combine so no way hes goin 11 picks after slow a$$ Malcom Jenkins....the Texans have a lot more needs than a WR at the 15th overall pick...well just thought id let you know this was a terrible mock draft....Try to follow up on the nfl before you do the next one!!! THANK YOU

  • wesser260 said April 03, 2009

  • NoSubs said April 03, 2009

I hope the Lions resist the temptation to hit a "home run" with Stafford, and instead take the safer pick with Smith. Maybe even trade up their second first rounder to take Sanchez, but I am not sold on Stafford.

This was posted after the news that Raji failed a drug test. I would be shocked if he was still drafted that high now, especially given his other problems in the past.

It must be hard to predict the rookie's ratings, I would like to hear more about the process that goes into it. I haven't listened to the podcast yet, maybe my curiosity is answered there.

I imagine it's hard too, because when a player doesn't pan out (i.e. Gholston not deserving an 85 last year) you must take a lot of flack. I guess that's what roster updates are for!

  • southernmissfan2 said April 03, 2009

i like the saints to get knoshon moreno

  • southernmissfan2 said April 04, 2009

no subs stafford is a great qb and i think the lions need him as for jason smith he played against a big ten defensive front who wasnt that good honestly. sanchez will need a year or two and if the lions wait that long they could end up with another 1 pick 1round pick and thats bad for cap and yes raji should still go high i think if he falls out of the top five i think that the bengals could use him or maybe if he falls farther san fransisco will take him im sure the looking for dt with great skills and for the drug test as long as he dont do it again it shouldnt hurt him two bad

  • southernmissfan2 said April 04, 2009

the jags wont get a qb this year they will give david garrad another year i think micheal crabtree will be a jag and maclin a raider or another option alabamas smith maybe micheal oher

  • Tical2399 said April 04, 2009

As a 49er I would pass on Andre Smith at 10, but it has nothing to do with his workouts. This is an OT heavy class (at least the top half of the draft) and I would get an OT on round 2. With the first pick I would try to trade from 10 to that 13-15 range and get Macklin. I honestly think Alex Smith would be good (not the next Montana or Young) with some decent weapons. For a few years the 49ers were considered the worst receiving corp in all of football.

Do they need o-line help? Oh yeah but there should be plenty of quality if not star OTs in early round two. I'm a Bill Walsh kinda guy. Trade back, pick up picks and build. Dropping from 10 to the range I mentioned should land an extra 4th rounder at least.

Round 1. niners trade down (if teams are interested)13-15 range and get Macklin

Round 2. OLB/DE Clint Stintim Virgina

Round 3. Rashad Johnson FS Bama

Round 4. Pick #1 Antone Smith RB Florida State. With his speed he can provide and outside back to compliment Gore and his power inside running, this also slips carries with gore who seems to wear out easily in the season. Provided the niners trade down like I said for round one and picked up that 4th rounder then pick #2 looks like this. 49ers pick up a CB Mike Mickens U of Cincy

Round 5 niners have 2 5th rounders no so speculation like my 4th round picks. Pick #1 Graham Harrell QB Texas Tech. Singletary seems to want to run first and play defense. So a game manager type like Harrell would fit and learn the job for later. Pick #2 Tony Fiammetta FB Syracuse. Maybe not a need but if you gonna focus on the run game like Singletary wants to do why noy pick up a good lead blocker and short yardage guy for the future. Plus I miss the Tom Rathman type FB in San Fran

Round 6 Roy Miller DT Texas. A 300 plus pounder to clog running lanes.

Round 7 niners have 2 picks in round 7. Pick #1 Greg Carr WR Florida State. 6'6" WR with nice leaping ability could win many jump balls in the red zone. Pick 2 Worrell Williams ILB Cal. With Willis gettin so much attention from blokcers a late round ILB can make an impact.

  • Leyland said April 04, 2009

wesser you're pretty pathetic at spelling.

  • Tical2399 said April 04, 2009

The funny think about this page is that they have a mock draft posted when they pay NO attention to the draft on their actual game. All this speculation and such that people are doing shows that care about the draft and the process. This should be reflected in the game. Its sad but the draft on madden (and all the off season stuff in general) are lacking. The off season in madden is like that dragon ball movie. It only has a VERY SLIGHT passing resemblance to the real thing. I listed Some things (alot of things actually) that EA needs to do to make the draft and franchise more realistic (if they are interested, which i doubt) on their post about "sim style gameply"

  • southernmissfan2 said April 04, 2009

just one thing denver doesn't need sanchez they have kyle orton

  • warrior310 said April 07, 2009

and i strongly disagree that they will be 7 offensive lineman chosen in the first round.

the giants o line is tight so  i dont think they will need him go wide receiver.

  • southernmissfan2 said April 07, 2009

the broncos if they can get him will get sanchez kyle orton is not near the qb cutler was and they will try to fill that spot

  • livinadream said April 08, 2009

warrior310, I read in Lindy's pro football draft guide that the giants wanted a tackle.  They would like to move LT david diehl back to LG.  Making him likely to get to the pro bowl at guard.  They could go wr too but a rookie is unlikely to be a plaxico type of impact player.  Also Kyle Orton is very unlikely to be a stud quarterback, so Denver will draft a qb at some point in the draft.  I seen on the NFL network that they brought pat white in for a private workout, to see him just throw the football.

We're now less than a week away from the Madden NFL 10 Draft Experience on the official Madden NFL

  • PlayAction said April 27, 2009

i was thinking about this draft and i was thinking about what i was going to be able to do with certain players, but i remembered the issues as far as depth charts and positioning on madden.

What about placing players in the position I want them to play in?

Lets look at this years draft and use Larry English as an example. He is listed as a Defensive End, but he is going to be converting to a 3-4 Outside Linebacker. There should be a way I can change a players position and have them develop at that position. I should at least be able to move them on the depth chart. Look at Evander "Ziggy" Hood who is with the Steelers now. He was a Defensive Tackle in college, but could very well end up playing the 5 technique as a 3-4 Defensive End. If I wanted to do that with a player I should be able to change the players position and then have him develop in that slot.

The conversion Defensive End/Outside Linebacker is a real part of football and we all know Madden is as real as it gets when it comes to gaming so this should certainly be included into the game.

This could make the drafting in Franchise Mode even better than it is. Think about having to project a guy into the style of football you play. You pick the right Defensive End to convert and you've got a baller. Maybe you see a Cornerback that you think would be a better safety, you should be able to draft him and change his position and see what you've got. If you decide right you have a good player, if you pick wrong you bust. This is a real concept of the game that would be great to add.

So EA - if you can have a seperate rating for deep, mid-range, and short throws on Quarterbacks adding something like this into the game should be BREEZE!
