A sneak peek at the Wildcat in Madden NFL 10

Hello Madden faithful! This week marks a very big week across the Madden Nation in terms of news - gameplay footage, the cover athlete, and some feature / technology releases. What you might imagine is that is that we (the development team) are extremely busy trying to get the game in good shape for everyone to see. So since we don't actually have a ton of time to spend on the blog, and the marketing / PR folks will be releasing a ton of news about the game anyway, we thought the least we could do was just drop a few quick screenshots to showcase some new stuff we've added.

After our official gameplay footage is released on GameTrailers this week, our playbook gurus are going to follow up soon after that with a full blog detailing the Wildcat in Madden NFL 10 - its realistic implementation, it's usage, and even footage of it being run. So we hope this holds you over until then. :)

(P.S. we already are working on the Dolphins helmet logo being too large)

Not bad! A little detail picky thing I have to say is why are Ricky Williams black arm bands deep gray? And that pic of Ronnie Brown sitting in the pocket is just unreal, looks so good! Congratulations guys, this is looking to shape up to be one of the best video games ever released, at least sports game!

First post! Good stuff guys, completely acceptable--can't wait to find out who the cover athlete (Adrian Peterson IMO), and see the new gameplay for the first time. Thanks for letting us know about the Wildcat formation, hope u guys tune it appropriately so that it doesn't become such an exploit like the full-house formation was in Madden NFL 09.

Anyone else notice the ref on the ground in the background? So....I guess they can be knocked over. Does that mean they may not see a penalty? Can the ball hit them and cause in incomplete pass? I'm just wondering.

Im not sure if I have an eye problem but in the last picture, were Ronnie Brown is throwing it, it looks like his right arm is kind of deformed. Please tell me that the Wildcat formation is found in the playbooks of the teams who used it. It would be bs if someone didn't. I am a Dolphins fan myself and I am happy and disappointed at the same time. I am disappointed because I didn't see the orange on the Dolphins cleats. I am happy because of the Wildcat and the graphics look pretty good.

Brother3Wright - Nice catch. I didn't even notice that, even after clicking on the pics to enlarge them...All I can say is WOOOOW! The pics look GREAT! Sharper, more detailed visuals, it seems. I figured the wildcat offense would be in this version so that is not a surprise but as an overall, this game sounds like it will be the ish, like never before! Great job, EA.

Do you guys see the definition in the arms and jersey.

HEY Developers. the cowboys are drafting a speed qb, or are using Wr stanbac as a wildcat formation. look it up. So i hope dolphins aren't the only team with it.

If you guys aren't gonna let us create are own playbook. at least get them right this year. My cowboys should have the Fullhouse normal.

Looks good, like others have said hopefully it won't be something cheesers abuse but it's definitely great to have the Wildcat in the game. I noticed the ref on the ground too. That's pretty cool if they can be knocked down/hit with passes, just so long as it doesn't happen so much that it continually messes up what would have been big plays. NFL refs do a great job of getting out of the way (really impressive IMO)so hopefully in the game it's the same. Also, is it just me or does Ronnie Brown look a tad awkward handing the ball off in that first screen shot? I dunno just doesn't look right to me for some reason.

Looking forward to seeing the first gameplay footage, keep up the good work guys!

Almost everything i asked for is in the game already.The only thing left for me is having a defensive lineman occupy two blockers every now and then.Double blocking is my last request.A good heavy run stopping lineman could occupy two blockers and help me get some linebackers in the backfield to bust up this new Wildcat!Hey im a STEELERS fan! I just got to have a strong defense!

I like that you guys added the Wildcat and the ref on the field is CRAZY but...what is with the generic coaches on the sideline. Its stupid that we can only see the head coach on challenges. WHAT IS GOING ON. Good post overall but please enhance the coaches.

You guys need to be VERY VERY VERY carefull.

Seneca Wallace in the Wildcat...I can't wait. As far as playbooks go, I can't wait to see how you guys incorporate these changes with the new AI. I know that Mora & Knapp @ The Seahawks are switching to a more run based, simplified playbook with 3WR sets and switching to the zone blocking scheme similar to Denver's for 1-cut runs as well as utilizing more trick plays like the wildcat as well as using more play action- I can't wait to see this in the game!

Not only is the logo to big, but in general it's wrong.

1) Dolphin should be centered

2) Sun is too big in proportion to the Dolphin

3) There are no lines between the rays in the current logo

I just wanted to second what "Fyrwulf" said. I'm an NCAA fan so I don't even think I'll be buying Madden this year, but the FIRST and most outstanding thing I noticed about these screenshots were the inaccurate helmet logos.

For the sake of the gamers, please make sure the "little things" like that are taken care of.

Madden 10 + Wildcat = Trickplays, good update and good graphics, the DOF is sick!!!!

Here are a few things that i think would increase the overall gameplay and authenticity of the NFL. Have a look, I think their pretty good.

1. Pre-Snap Run/Pass Commit - The run/pass commit would be a lot better if it was before the snap instead of after. The D-Pad should be where this is put into gameplay. I read this on some guys post,

"The D-Pad would be just about perfect. Up for Pass, Down for Run, Left for Misdirection plays like Screens, Delays and Play-Action, and Right for Reset to Normal (to play everything Straight Up) that way, We can finally see the effectiveness of Draws, Screens and Delays and most importantly make my opponent have to fool ME instead of the CPU. This could also finally resolve the Infamous effectiveness of Play-action on third and long (a football no-no if there ever was one) without us worrying that our boneheaded DE or LB will tackle the HB instead of attacking the QB. It would also allow players to punish opponents who are painfully obvious with their play-calls and refuse to vary their gameplans."

2. Online Fair Play - Fair play should also be put back into the game. It will make people punt and kick a field goal on 4th & 5, 4th & 10, etc. The only exception where fair play shouldn't be enforced is if the ball is spotted 4th & inches no matter where on the field, maybe even 4th & 1 but only if you have crossed the 50 yard-line onto your opponents side of the field.

3. Spectating Online Games - It would be cool if EA puts in a feature to spectate online games. I wouldn't want the normal behind the QB camera angle but all the camera angles you see used in actual football games on television.

4. More Tackle Animations - I think it would be a lot better if EA just keeps all the tackle animations from all the previous years (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) but with every new madden they just add more tackle animations to give the game that much more of a sports feel instead of a video game feel where you pretty much expect the same animations after a while of playing the game. The game would feel fresh every time you see many different animations.

5. QB Vision - I think the QB vision should also be put back into the game. This would also give the game more realism and it will make people actually progress through the development of routes during the play. It would also prevent people from scrambling like crazy and completing unrealistic passes. It should be mandatory to use the QB vision for online ranked games.

6. More Defensive Pre-Snap Adjustments - There needs to be more options on defense so people can adjust to what the offense is doing. A good example of when it would be good to use it would be when people no-huddle and they have the defense mismatched with the personnel of the offense, what if I want to adjust my Nickel CB or LB to press only the slot WR?

7. Hit Stick/Truck Stick High Risk/Reward Relationship - The Hit Stick and Truck Stick are abused with success too many times. Actually increase the risk to keep those abusers in check. It will also make the game more unpredictable on goal-line situations with abusers fumbling.

8. Increase the Frequency of Penalties - Sometimes it may seem that there are no penalties. Offsides and false starts are the most common penalties. Make the hard count actually work. With the new Adaptive AI make defensive players and offensive players remember the # of attempts you use the hard count. What if I want to set up a hard count? For example, the entire drive I'm hiking the ball on the first caiten (or 1st "hike") with no hard counts, but then I am in a 3rd & 2 situation, since the defense expects me to hike the ball on the 1st caiten, as I've been doing the whole drive, I use the hard count to draw the defense offsides. Make it also a risk/reward relationship.

9. Daylight Progress - Make the daylight progress at the end of every half, having the daylight progress in real time is too much to ask for, just change it at the end of every half.

Games that kickoff at 1:00 - Games that start at this time should have the daylight at its fullest in the 1st half, but in the second half make that sun begin to set.

10. Every Current Day Helmet - This one is a no brainer. Ask anyone that plays football and their helmet is their most valuable piece of equipment, some guys consider it more than a helmet. This is what makes a football player, he marks his "battle scars" on his helmet. I know some of the guys on the posts have played real football before because they get into detail that is first-hand experience that only a football player will know, I played myself, so they know what I mean. With that being said put in all available helmets that are out there today. There are only two major brands and that is "Riddell" and "Schutt". Pictures below....

The only suggestion i think is a privilege and not a priority is spectating games online. As for the others they should be put into the game to have an overall better gameplay for everyone.

I did not mean to bother you ea but, can u please add thease things

1.the ps2 Mini camp version-I dont only speak for myself when i say this but that was a fun and easy way to get our players better in the offseason.

2.during franchise mode you should not be the only one trading players to diffrent teams, you should make it where when you check your mail u could see other teams offering u a trade for players.

3.games should feel more realistic.Crowd should get louder on 3rd downs and at the end of the game.

4.when a player get hurt they cant come back in 100percent.Such as if they hurt there ankle they should be limping or there speed should be lowered.

5.franchise mode-every week they should show the key injuries,best plays,and the top transitions of the week.

Haha, the helmets are really off but i have to say i don't care about incorrect helmet logos or guys that look too jacked, i want good gameplay first, graphics second. the next gen madden has been awful but is slowly getting better and i really home this the year that gameplay is finally top notch.

wow it looks amazing i just hope u guys add the clips for the visors and what bulldog said add all of what he said and also we should be able to change how our guy wears his chinstrap and what kind u know like softcup or hardcup something like that also i really love how those gloves look they look bomb. and u guys should add more shine to the jerseys and the helmets. but wow what an amazing pic can't wait till the next update.

to the guy above me, while i also would like to see something like that as well, what Charles Woodson does is against NFL league uniform policy and i believe he gets fined everytime he wears his socks like that. Other guys do this as well, Clinton Portis, some of the Raiders, etc. but theres a league uniform policy where there are requirements for sock height and those that don't follow that policy get fined so i doubt EA would allow that in the game.

you guys need to add the senior bowl to the franchise mode. Put a like an off season practice in and do the off-season and let us have a practice squad because the roster limit is too low. Please do like a head coach type off-season. the game looks sick so far I cant wait.

please do something about the retirements because T.O. retired on me after the first season on 09 and I tried everything to make him stay by resigning him to a big contract and he would not stay and he was still young I mean it was after the first season on my dtnasty. You should be able to do something to make a player play another season by offering a big contract.

Yes this is really awesome. but as many others haave stated the sidelines still seem to be bare. the ref on the ground is hilarious and im glad you guys have decide to go for more realism. OH and please dont forget about the teams whom are getting new jersey's I know the Jags unveil there's soon and I really hope u add the new uniforms.oh and the madden higlights system it would be really sweet if u could allow us to play back our highlights full screen without having to upload online.Hopefully u guys are also working on smoother and more realistic animations and that includes the celebrations 09's are pretty lame and look out of place.

the only problem is that it will become too powerful. hopefully you make penetrating easier cause on NCAA 09 it was really hard to stop it and a weak opponent could win by running the same outside run or a short pass.

not trying to sound too picky, but the shots do look a little choppy; just my thoughts. And one thing you can maybe do for those type of gloves (the ones Ronnie Brown is wearing) is have a choice whether you can have white or black to match with that alternate color, because the Dolphins don't even have those kind of gloves on that screenshot (they would have a white glove with the orange color); it just doesn't look right. I have pre-ordered this game already it's looking good!

hope you guys don't stop at the wildcat, put in trick plays with the ravens, and bubble screens for the colts, and the WR reverse for the Bears, and QB quik reads (you see all out blitz call a quik read and dump it off to ur speed WR quikly) the list goes on and on. there are alot of plays you guys do not have in that play book.

I think that you guys had a good idea on covering right and middle or sidlines, but ontop of that you should be able to say cover short or cover deap, simply because if you run a deap post on zones the D don't follow him, he can just walk into the endzone almost. then when people run short curls, your curlz zone don't cover those you move your guys up and they just drop back. I think more freedom on the D would be nice. if it was me i would redo how to hole defence hot routs and coverage autibles were done. like when you go to change a guy to bliz, the exact second you hit down on the right analoge your apponent hikes the ball, run comit oops TD just like that, WTF. then i would try to figure out a way that you could tell a defender to cover an area of the field, because of those people that run that stupid play they throw to the same spot over and over, i think you should be able to manualy put a guy there. you could have like a gride and you hit like X (PS3) then your left analoge you can change the area of the grid you want to cover, you could have like 15 different spots, 5 for all front middle and deap. that would so helpfull on defence i think.

and i'm not trying to complain but if you really really look at the graphics they look trash, and it sort of look like madden 09 but you have to remember how madden graphics look on the computer then look at madden 10 graphics

Good work guys,two quick things, i may be wrong but Ricky Williams has lost a lot of weight and Ronnie Brown and he are both listed as 230lbs and in the picture Ricky looks huge compared to Brown, secondly please dont take offense but if there were more detail in the shoulderpad/collarbone area would make your player models look near perfect. Theres just something different about that area that looks less detailed than the rest of the player model. Does anyone else agree?

Another thing I noticed are the facemasks both lineman are sporting in the shot of ronnie brown in the gun... I'm pretty sure thats one of the ones that they've been putting the stupid bars on for years (the one strahan wore) and its finally fixed! Way 2 Go EA!!! The ref is awesome, towels look great, and the details in how the jerseys lay and the pants and socks are amazing! KEEP IT UP EA!

i know the dolphins are making a slight change to their logo this year, but the one in that screenshot is absolutely ridiculous.

about the wildcat....please make sure the personnel and alignment on the offensive line is correct. Miami put both their OTs on the right. Thats right, Vernon Carey and Jake Long both on the right side of the line. If I have to make that substitution in every game, I'll gonna be pissed.

General wishlist....

-Custom Depth Charts (not rosters) for online play (so we dont have to pause and change it everytime)

-Custom substitutions and audible packages for every playbook (I should be able to have my own set of audibles for each playbook I use, without having to reset them everytime I switch playbooks. And please allow us to save substitutions also.)

-Create-a-playbook (offense and defense, also create-a-play)

Give me these things and I'll be happy. It's a shame that these features dont exist after 21 years of releasing the same game every year.

i have a very important question for the Dev Team:...u guys(the EA Dev team) have been showing the world new screen shots of the players and the new things added into madden10.... But i have been asking and reminding u(the EA Dev team) to put the Playoff logo and the NFC/AFC logos on the field during the playoffs because it is crucial to making the playoffs feel like the PLAYOFFS. it will make the stadium invironment feel like a REAL playoff atmosphere wen u play the game...

I have a few questions for you guys so here they are

1)In the pro bowl will the teams have their club helmets or will they continue to have the AFC/NFC helmets.

2)can you please make it so players only have relevant skills in their profile thingy. e.g if i want to find out Charles Woodsons coverage skill i have to go through Pass block footwork and strength and all that stuff its just pointless.

3)please make it possible to create plays then save it to the team you want.

4) With the wildcat will the adaptive AI learn the formation and learn how to stop it?

5)Its been discussed before but with the new ratings will devin hester still tun the same speed and everyone else will be slower or will everyone stay the same speed(im not talking about ratings but how fast they actually move) and devin hester just pump his legs faster?

In the real NFL..do they use other teams playbooks. I think the team you use should only be allowed to play with their team specific playbooks (Off and Def).

I don't understand how the logo could have gotten screwed up to begin with. Its not that the logo is too big. Its JUST THE SUN around the Dolphin that is too big, and its not even the right sun. How could they accidentally enlarge half of the logo without going in and separating it into two layers and enlarging the sun on purpose? WTF is the point of that?

Also, the numbers on the jerseys are supposed to be outlined in orange.

Keep all of the same playbooks in madden 09 but add the newest formations, also online franchises have the cpu opponents (optional) like the ncaa 09 online leagues. Allow alternate jerseys in online games that would be great!

1. Please guys if this is simulation that we are truely trying to achieve then please fix the QTR D or the DIME D users that scrunch the d close to the line and being able to stop the. . .oh lets say, goal line formation->lead run from at least gaining 3 yards.

How often do you see DBs blowing up offensive linemen?

2. Another pet-peeve, how often do we see stand-up QB Sneaks? The QB sneak play is gauranteed at least two yards with the QB running upright for that two. Please, every QB sneak I see the QB barely gets a full yard. If they do the are not running upright.

3. I have a wide screen LCD and I still cannot see the wide-outs. This has been a problem with Madden since '91-92. I must roll a little to that side in order to read what the DB is doing especially if I want my Wide-out to do a comeback route.

4. FB run blocking, Phantum no handoff, Rocket Blitzing. I have notice these things starting to happen in the past month. Most guys will place a middle linebacker directly behind the NG and send them on a blitz up the gut untouched. The old rocket blitz exploit. The problem I have with that is the guy I was playing was using a DIME D against my I-Formation and the LB kept tackling me for a loss. The FB runs right by the LB. Same defense being used I tried to hand-off for an off-tackle running play and Romo never handed the ball off instead he runs by Barber and the LB sacks me. What Gives?

It’s nice to see the referee in back of the third screenshot on the floor, but how is that possible when the referee that’s behind the line of scrimmage is usually 5-15 yards southeast (in Madden view) from where the QB hikes the ball. From the looks of the screenshot he’s damn near a few yards shy of the line of scrimmage and picture is from the QB’s left side. Did he get run over by a DE or OLB rushing from the outside? I’m not trying to be picky or anal just trying to understand how something like that would happen even though it’s only a screenshot. Notice in the football game highlights how far the refs are from QB. Then again maybe it might keep guys from scrambling senselessly in the backfield. Just keep it in mind EA.

Camren go elsewhere, they are reading our comments to help make the game as reaslistic as possible, evendentally you care about these things too or you wouldnt be reading all our comments. To add to 22baby i think if jerseys came untucked and pulled would open a lot more tackle animations when the player is brought down by jersey pulling or breaking tackles. Heck even the shoulder pads should stick up and need tucking back in or losing a shoe every once in a while.

The point is not to correct everything in a years time the point is to become aware of the things that arent right. These guys at EA have passion for making this game as real as possible because they love what they do. Is the color of a teams belt important? No, but why not make it right if the chance is there. Just because the game will never be perfect does'nt mean they should not try, thats what makes EA the best in sports gaming because they constantly try to improve ever aspect but since you probably have no ambition in life you wouldnt understand. Do some people on here do nothing but gripe? Yes, you will always have those people but you want to bash everyone for making comments that Ricky looks too big or an idea that makes the game more accurate with real life. Jellybean i agree with some of the things you say but the thing is, you can be critical about something but you're just out right bashing the game. 09 was the best game for next gen, its a lot of things but trash it is not, its obvious you're a fan of the game or you wouldnt be here but evidentally EA is doing something right for you to keep buying it every year. Any game anyone ever makes will have room for improvement, EA has gotten so close to it they now have to rely on the fans to point out things the developement team missed. Go ahead and give your opinion but to come out and say the game is trash and the graphics are terrible isnt even a reasonable opinion, in other words... play nice.

Hey EA, I just thought of a few suggestions for the game as far as gameplay goes after playing a demo of All Pro Football 2K8. I kind of see why people are complaining about the sidelines although that is not at the top of my priorities for Madden NFL 10. In APF 2K8 the sidelines are alive and you could see them walking/running down the sidelines and cheering you on big breakaway plays which I must admit is nice, but GAMEPLAY is still #1 priority on my list. One more thing they did do well was force QB’s stance to always be facing forward or to side. That’s one thing that is not done in madden where in Madden 09 a gamer can sprint backwards at the hike of the ball with the quarterback’s back towards their receivers and OL which is an absolute “No No” for quarterbacks in the NFL. If your not going to bring back QB Vision which you should then work on the QB stance animations while in and out the pocket pressing sprint. QB scrambling is the result of good defense in the backfield, decent blocking by OL and good awareness of the QB. Where he is able to go through all his reads and see that nothing is open and step in/out of the pocket and take advantage of open lanes on the line of scrimmage for a couple of yards or not the other way around. Where a lot of gamers seem to sprint backwards to buy time to make there reads/throws down the field. Even Michael Vick goes through his reads before he scrambles or at least tries if he’s not getting blitzed heavy and never is his back completely turned to his receivers and OL. For examples:

As far as the passing gm goes if you play in practice mode with no defense on the field you will notice that there is a serious lack of animations in Madden 09 as far as catches goes. The “Spin Catch” occurs way to often even on streak routes with no one defending WR’s of TE’s. Now the “Spin Catch” scenario does happen in the NFL but more on sideline and end zone situations with high passes where the receivers turns his body around to assure his feet are inbounds and usually try keep their feet touching the ground while stretching there upper body and arms to make a catch. As you guys are testing this game before release PLLLLEEEEAAASSSE I BEG YOU EA to go into practice mode with no defense and see what type of animations are occurring with no defense then with defense and how often. From there you guys can honestly and truthfully realize what needs to be added or altered to keep the game as real and fresh as we see every Sunday during the football season. Since that is the slogan for this year. “What we see on Sunday is what we’re going to see in Madden 10” right? From what I’ve seen in a recent screen shots you guys seem to be on the right track with receivers seeming to catch the ball in stride which is essential passing games. Also with things such Procedural awareness, slowing down the speed of the game, and the lack of the moon ball which IMO really killed the deep passing game and aided towards rocket catchers. Hopefully rocket catches will be toned down this year and mainly big jump ball situations before and what not. In the NFL I don’t think a QB will constantly set his receivers up in the middle of the field to get hit and possible injured by constantly hanging a ball in the air on a comeback route in between three defenders.

It is good to hear that the hit stick is going to be toned down and adhere more to realism/physics with a more risk reward factor also taking into consideration strength and takcle ratings, because it is abused a bit in the gm now. Big hits usually occur when the ball carrier are blind to the defenders coming at them in full pursuit uncontested or when an offensive player is running towards the defenders direction and doesn’t have enough time to make an adjustment to avoid the hit. In my honest opinion I think you guys made a big mistake in changing the buttons configurations. Not to seem negative or anything I’m an avid supporter of you guys and have faith that you guys will produce a great product in Madden NFL 10. Now back to the reason why changing the buttons was a mistake as far as the running game goes with only one stiff arm button you make the games engine/AI determine which animations are correct in given situations and it does not seem to do a good job of it or there are just a real serious lack of animations in that department. The RB flipping over a DT/LB with one arm and shoulder/“hip toss” or whatever else you may call it is really UNREALISTIC. I think what you guys where going for was a RB trying to shrug off a defender who was trying to tackle him but lost grip of the tackle because of his momentum if that made any sense but didn’t come out right because I’ve never seen any running back in real life do that. I really think the implementation of two stiff arm buttons needs to be put back in the gm it just makes sense SERIOUSLY. The fake lateral button is USELESS because the animation for a real lateral is isn’t too great IMO and you fumble/lose the ball 80% of the time when you try it, maybe I’m doing it wrong who knows?

You will notice that on most breakaway runs RB’s are hardly touch for the most part and the stiff arms with both arms is essential to shrug a tackle to keep balance and momentum going forward. For example:

Which brings me to my last point what happened to Tutorials EA? Tutorials should also be brought back to madden so gamers could see how you game developers envisioned certain things to be portrayed in your game. I hate to say it, but the game developers create the chessers you guys set the guideline of what you will allow and not allow in your game. It’s known that some guys mindsets are to do whatever it takes to win no matter what. They go by EA’s old say “It’s in the game”, so they say to themselves if it’s in the game then why should I not use it whether it is realistic or not. Hopefully Adaptive AI will force most of those gamers to put their thinking caps on for a change instead of being able to play brainlessly, because they found a loop hole/glitch in the game. From what I remember the purpose of the game is to be fun, competitive and as close real to real NFL experience a video game can bring you. Am I right?

I know you guys see a lot of game film already, but this is just some things to keep mind while you guys are making/fine tuning Madden NFL 10 and you can honestly say to yourselfs this is really a simualtion of the NFL experience on Sundays. Keep up the good/hard work.

I agree with carmen630 to a degree, but on the otherhand some guys are just so attentive to small details just like I'm concerned about small nit nats about gameplay. Their main concerns are matching cleets and belts which isn't that important IMO, but everyone's entitled to an opinion though. So, I guess what I'm saying is that there's a such thing as constructive criticism and some guys don't seem to know how to critic with out seeming like an A hole.

Finally. I think madden10 is gonna be way better and more realistic. But Here is something uguys should work on its the superstar mode. Dont make the game easy make playeers work for fame, make it realistic. If your player not good enough to start in a team dont just have start make that person battle for it and if you dont win u get benched. Make the coaches more real dont just send messages, have him cut u or trade u his self like out of nowhere ur just cut. Make the mode feel like your really in the nfl.

OC Brian Shottenheimer had the jets running motion, no huddle, and Wildcat. Please, I would like to see this reflected in the Jets Madden Playbook. Jets scored 5th most points last year. And 9th in Rushing. Look at game film from the Kellen Clemens/Chad Pennington season when we had the awful offensive line. We were running alot of complicated formations and routes, please express that in our playbook

visor clamps? 50 different helmets? how about just making the gameplay sweet first. i could care less if i could see visor clips, when my offensive line cant hold a block once the rb gets close to them. offensive/deffensive line play has been horrible the past couple years. visuals may looks sweet, but i want a game that plays sweet. what about pass flight mechanics? qbs no longer throw 50 yards straight up on lob passes, but do bullets have some sort of trajectory or do they go 40 yards on a straight line? can LBs jump 10ft in the air and make a WR style catch? are there legitimate jump ball animations? are pursuit angles based completely on what direction the user presses or are they actually somewhat realistic(blatantly follow user direction on KR. if you "twitch" left and right so does every defender.there are guys 25 yards ahead of the returner mirroring his movements when they couldnt possibly see him behind all the other players.)? can you adjust a players weight(within reason) if they need to bulk up or thin down for a position change or when drafted? has the cpu completion percentage issue been adressed? will there occasionally be missed assignments along the o-line? will you be able to hit WRs in stirde? will dlineman get double teamed? 53 man rosters? trainging camp to help progress players? weight of players meaning something(judo stiff arm by a 185lbs wr to a 330lbs dt)?all of these are more important than an orange cleat.

ea has always done a great job on visuals and stepping them up every year. the screen shots are phenominal. its nice to see the playbooks seem to be opening up a little. the details are great but im worried about the game play. some issues have been cleaned up, but a bunch havent been touched on yet. i hope they are being fixed.

also with the new AI, how many times do you have to run a play before players catch on? most online games you only get to run 30ish plays on offense. this doesnt get rid of the need to eliminate "cheese" plays.

ea can progress on the graphics but the gameplay need to be review, because sometimes (or often?) the game go wild and make the real madden gamers (don't talk about cheaters) realy disapointed!

Camren i know where you're coming from because i want gameplay to be perfect before graphics but Ian has given us snapshots to critique. Remember Big Ben didnt get changed until a lot of comments where made that he was too small, thats why people are noting that Ricky is too big. Read every blog. We cannot gripe about gameplay or glitches because we have yet to see a video. We cant critique gameplay from a still photo. So when you see comments about belt color or player size gripes on a video blog then hey have at it, gripe everyone out, but hey you seem cool.. good discussions.

Well lets hope when we see the vidoe or a demo of the game it doesn't have folks going back to the store and request their money back LOL!!!

Well I can say is like I have always been saying sense they want our input about the features.

1. Team Color Cleats, bring that back because you have it on the old gen and it's time you bring that back also.

2. Presentation, every time I play franchise mode I quite the game after the 2nd game, we need halftime presentation, playoff and Superbowl presentation.

3. Create a play book, time and time we keep asking you to bring that back but you guys aren't listening to us.

4. Create a Team, add more uniform styles, loges, and triples lines down the helmet, if I wanted to make a helmet just like the cowboys or the dolphins with the three lines and the middle line in another color allow us to do that.

And again Camren630 I know where you coming from also, lets see if EA can finally shut all of us up and do some of the things we ask for. EA BRING BACK ALL OF THE OLD FEATURES FROM THE OLD GEN AND PUT IT IN THE NEW GEN!!!!!!!!!!

I love Madden football its the only game I play online. Please fix problems in 09 for 10, to make it a complete real game like when your opponent does hurry up your defensive line will line up all messed up. Also deep out passes will sometimes be called out of bounds when in fact the receiver was in. Lets make the dump off passes a little less effective,this isn't college football, people exploit that play and that's all they do. Also making quarter backs more realistic sounds good, but please be careful how you do it so those of us that play with several teams don't have to much trouble adjusting. Please, and most of all, be careful so we don't have some players that play with Pats and just throw bombs to Moss. 09 is the best yet for stopping that nonsense like that so I'm just asking you to keep it going in that direction and be careful with QB changes for 10. I would like to see fair play brought back just for onside kicks (1st quarter not allowed) (2nd Quarter must be down by 17) (3rd Quarter down by 14) (4th quarter down by 1). Also it should be real hard to run up the middle against Vikings as it is in real life, I wonder if its possible to adjust other players more in that direction like you are doing with the qbs, I think it is a great idea, I was only suggesting to be careful with it so some glitch players don't exploit it. Can we also have illegal contact penalty along with pass interference. Just to be fair I wonder if you could make that penalty mostly for human controlled player since some players will do that before the ball is in the air knowing there's no penalty. Goal line offense,this is the only area where 08 was better than 09 its to hard to run with FB and to easy to run with QB sneak i was hoping you could tweak that a bit. Thanks BOB G

Great images guys. Looks great!

One thing I wanna stress is the draft. One thing I would like to see is something which shows the prospects rising/falling in the draft. Say a player like Vernon Gholston has a godlike combine, he moves from an early-mid round pick to a top 10 pick or a guy like Andre Smith who doesn't work out or works out poorly, he gets bumped down despite him being a beast in college. This gives a good overall flow and can lead to some major steals as long as people overpaying for busts to make it more realistic.

There should also be those, like Mark Sanchez this year, who, like Trey Wingo says best, is projected to go to 33 teams. You see many teams try to move up to get that prospect that you can't miss, even though it might backfire.

In order to do this, I would think the combine numbers would have to be revealed in the offseason, making it not only important to scout in the season for overall skills like a WRs catching or routes , but later to get things like speed, strength, etc.

Adding Mel Kiper or Todd McShay for feedback would be awesome too, and give comments like if the OLB class this year is very deep or if the CB position has one superstar, and the rest are second day picks at best to give feel on whether you can wait on drafting a position and go after other needs.

There has to be a line for this, however. As many of my fellow colleagues who play Franchise this year, it seemed QBs dominated drafts, whether they started as an 82 OVR or a 68 OVR. Make it more realistic to have more parody in the draft and have them fill needs to an extent for CPU teams rather than say, the Falcons getting a QB in the 1st despite having Matt Ryan.

One thing that should also be adressed, which you guys touched on was the contracts. Do that for the draft as well. Yes, the #1 pick is going to get big money, but if you get a steal in say the 3rd-4th round and get a 75 OVR, dont immediately give him $3 mil a year for being that good, give him appropriate money for his round.

If the draft can be more interactive, it will make the whole franchise experience 10 times better. Great job guys and hope you take some of my things into consideration.

jaguars uniform looks alright its not that tight....... and i little info mark sanchez is better than matt stafford, if you go watch footage on youtube of mark sanchez against penn state he straight beasted he was cool under pressure, can make all types of throws on the field, great arm strength, good accuarcy, and consistent

on the other hand go look at matt stafford against georgia tech he threw 2 interceptions, not saying nobody else does but them were interceptions that should of never been thrown in the 1st place, overthrows recivers sometimes, takes to long in the pocket, pretty good accuarcy, nice arm strength, and moves around to much in the pocket

With more and more teams changing defensive fronts from 4-3 to the 3-4 style. What is being done with the hybrid DE/OLB position? On Madden 09, changing a OLB to DE made him jump up in their rating and down when going from DE to OLB...

OK...listen up everyone is sayin MADDEN 09 had da best player models......I disagree they were the worst ive seen.....MADDEN 07 had da best!!!! I think they should change how the bigger recivers and TE's run cuz dats a horrible running animation. They should also change the hit where the guy gets popped i mean when he falls its like he has the ball in his hand when he doesnt. TIP TOE sideline catches should be improved and better anouncer and scoreboard.....08,07 was cool.

what oozy09 said the older maddens the player models were bigger also i like how the jerseys had that shine to them and the definiton on the jerseys was way better. also i like in 07 when the qb broke the huddle it show that little clip of him coming to the line buckling his chinstrap and doing other things also add more qb voices and gives us the option to pick what voice we want.

ok, on a totally different topic than the gameplay; can we get some good music in this years game? like a solid soundtrack that gets me going as I hit start to play the game! Stadium sounds could use some work, especially with the crowd. And as a request (that I know won't happen but I'll wish) could you guys at E.A. somehow get "All Nightmare Long" by Metallica on your game? Perfect Madden song!

Oh, I didn't comment on what I seen. I did post on Gametrailers so I'll copy and paste what I noticed, here...

-Truer blocking with no apparent suction.

-QB didn't get sucked into a sack and was able to get the ball off unlike previous Maddens.

-3(?) and 4 player gang tackles, even with an offensive player trying to help push the pile forward.

-Fumble pileups with ref signaling which team retrieved the ball.

-Ref fell down

Now, EA, I dunno if that was Ed Hochuli that gave the signal on the fumble retrieval, but in addition to just the one ref, I would hope to see multiple refs at the pile, at times, trying to "decipher" who recovered a fumble, even sometimes getting involved in pulling players off the pile, etc. to get a closer look. Overall, great looking footage. I want more. Keep up the good work, as always

ncaa 10 looks great but it kinda has madden 09 graphics b/c if u remember how it look when you play in the rain on madden 10 thats just how it looks on ncaa 10, but i'm not saying nothing is wrong ncaa though it looks cool actually

and by the way ya'll could go look at like 10 new screenshots of madden on madden10.com, the screenshots are at the bottom you'll see larry fitzgerald on the screenshot first its right above the big ben screenshot, and by the way the picture arent really that impressive

but i know ya'll have 4 more months to deliver but when them 4 months come i better see new graphics, better equipment, and gameplay its kinda hard though to remember ya'll have 4 more months b/c i'm so disappointed but i'ma wait just to see if i'ma buy it or not

EA make me proud because i'm a little ticked off right now b/c of that trailer last night and i can speak for most of everyone else, but EA we are still hanging in there with ya'll until august, but if it looks the same in august i might have to say this will be the year ya'll sell the fewest maddens

When i get madden 10 im playing franchise mode and cant wait, i think online mode is for people who constantly sit on the couch for 10-15 hours a day playing the game, i have a life but on my spare time i want to play a better revamped franchise mode without seeing the colts draft a QB in the 1st 3rd and 5th round of the draft and also i hate seeing all these rookies coming in the league with 90+ overall rating like Julio Jones (rated 94 as rookie) and Tim Tebow ( rated 97 as a rookie) EA this is really on realistic and should be addressed.

Ok, back with some other goodness...and, this time, some criticism, but constructive criticism. Ian, I hope u read this...

What I posted after seeing the trailer on Spike TV:

What I failed to also post cuz it was late and I was sleepy is:

- WR/CB jostling off the line then separation

- Breaking tackle two tacklers

- Oh, and there actually was a 3 man gang tackle, upon further review. I put a question mark next to the 3 on my first post.

Now, I did also say this in my "report on the trailer" post:

Where I was supposed to go with the Ed Hochuli reference was the fact that if that wasn't "Ed" making that signal, meaning there are actual other refs in the game, please don't have refs doing the Ed Hochuli signal. His signal is unique and not the usual.

Ok, here are some constructive criticisms of what I seen in the trailer plus some more footage I've seen that focused just on Fitz, on ESPN, with my understanding that the game is still in alpha stages of dev":

- Animations still look a bit odd and unnatural, at times. I think I did mention, somewhere, how the animations, overall, still don't look as organic as they can. I don't know the technical phrasing or wording for it but, basically, some of the animations still look robotic and unrealistic, giving it that "Madden look" that it's had for years, now. I dunno if the engine is going to get a complete overhaul one of these years and you guys are still working on it behind the scenes, or, maybe, there is a new build that this is going to be transferred into, this year, but I think many would agree that it is time to leave this engine behind, although I completely appreciate all the upgrades and tweaks.

- Color saturation was a bit intense. I'm assuming this is becuz the build is still early, and since the last Madden the saturation was just right, imo. The trailer made me think of Madden 08 on the PS3, which I really disliked. (sorr-a)

- The crowd, from what I've seen, still looks extremely weak. I dunno what you guys can do about that, but, I have to bring up NBA 2K9 and MLB 2K9 and, if u've seen the crowds there, there is nothing else to say. I dunno if it is possible with the current Madden engine to get the crowds more realistic than 2D cardboard cut outs.

- The D line players getting flipped, still. I seen one instance of it in the trailer but I really hope that it's not that consistent as 09's because it's really not that realistic or prevalent in the NFL.

That's about it when it comes to the trailer and that additional footage I've seen.

I do have one last thing, while I'm thinking about it, to bring up - Please get rid of that "fairy-like" catch animation where guys, especially tight ends, I've noticed, catch the ball behind themselves while doing this jump, turn, floating deal in the air, even if I have actually lead the player with a bullet pass. That is such a weak, slow animating and "unrealistic" looking animation. MUST go...please?

Just saw some Jimmy Fallon show and he showed some gameplay to the audience, and Larry Fitzgerald. It was amusing to see him as such a skinny little guy and then to see players get carried off the field by teammates, guys on the bike on the sidelines like 2k5.

Also to see the gator come out and take Jimmy off the field after he got injured and give a thumbs up to the crowd. Surprisingly you could see a "small" amount of movement and animation to players on the sideline from what I could tell IMO. Plus, he deserved it getting taking off the field...his pass to the WR was awful. LOL

ANaturalSweater - Good looks on that clip. I actually thought I posted a response earlier to your post but my laptop jacked up. I originally thought it was 2K5, too, and even, after all these years, popped 2k5 into my PS3 and after comparing the Giants Stadiums interior field walls as well as the displays, the one in that clip is obviously not the current Giants Stadium.

I was real geeked when I first saw that clip. I think this Madden will, finally, be THAT football game. Again, thanks for the clip.

It does look much better. I hope it lives to the hype this year for the first time on next gen. I enjoyed the humor on this clip. This clip to me appears to be more clear and you can see some play of Fitzgerald making catches, breaking some tackles, etc. before you see Fallon in the game. There is interview first then you will see gameplay.

also can i add that the coaches need to look more real...

tony sparano needs to look more like himself in real life, a bit fat, glasses

and eagles coach needs to look seriously fat, like a beached whale.

looks good i just hope the player's look like them selves wit the faces an all instead of putting the little circle around with there last name you should be able to tell by face an number that would be to realistic!!!!!!! tell me thats not a good idea the rookie ratings are cool but its just they dont like alike in real life sum thing really needs to be fixed the graphics.if i was a player i would be up set if i seen my face looking like a created player terrible
