Behind the scenes with Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald

Posted On: Apr. 28, 2009 4:04 AM EST By: sk88z 14 Comments

On Monday night EA SPORTS was on location at the LA Coliseum to film a commercial for the upcoming release of Madden NFL 10.  We had the very cool opportunity to have both cover athletes, Troy Polamalu from the Super Bowl XL and XLIII champion Pittsburgh Steelers and Larry Fitzgerald from the Arizona Cardinals, in the stadium to take part in what has to be one of the biggest shoots in the company's history.

The shoot involved over 500 extras and was designed around the game's slogan "Fight For Every Yard".  The premise of the shoot has Fitzgerald catching a pass and being stood up by Polamalu on the 50 yard line.  To get that extra push, players on both teams would scrum and drive behind each player, but that wasn't quite enough.  Coaches and fans as well had to get in on the push too!  The shoot involved a few helicopter passes so timing was critical to get the right shots down in a timely fashion.

On top of this I also got a chance to interview both players for our community which I've shared here along with providing some extra behind the scenes footage and photos (click to enlarge image) from the evening and early morning.  We had a live feed running as mentioned earlier this week, Go Live with EA SPORTS Athletes, and for those that didn't get a chance to join me and the community, you can check out the recap of the live chat here: Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald.

I have to say that this was one of the coolest things I've ever been involved with at EA SPORTS and it's a pleasure to be able to share the behind the scenes action with our community.  Join us Tuesday night as we close off our shoot at the LA Coliseum with four of the Pittsburgh Steelers, including Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Willie Parker, and LaMarr Woodley, in a re-creation of the Super Bowl celebration.  If you have questions for any of these players, leave them in the comments below or twitter them to me with a  @sk88z.  You will be able to follow us live here: Pittsburgh Steelers

i enjoyed the rookie ratings however how about eye black and nose strips for the players, the players look so plain without it if you watched a lot of these players in college for example matt stafford he wore eye black and a lot of the players in madden wear eye black almost everygame for example reggie bush however only a few players have the eye black why only some or at least let us edit that feature

Thanks for the comments so far.  EA is pulling out all the stops for this shoot and it'll very cool to see these when they come out this summer.

Does anyone have any questions for the Pittsburgh Steelers that I'm hoping to get time with tonight?

Alright EA, look at Larry and Troy...

Can you guys please put what they are wearing in the game?  I know Reebok provides the NFL with their equipment, but many other players wear other brands, too.  Larry and Troy are Nike athletes, so please give them the Nike gloves and shoes, just put the "NFL EQT." logo on the gloves!  Having the Nike Vapor Trail gloves and the red and black Nike Air Huarache TD cleats that Larry gots on, will add so much authenticity to the game! I'm sorry, but I just want a lot of variety when it comes to gloves and cleats, just like in reality.  It makes players unique.

Also, I think if you can see the pads under the jerseys, through the holes of the jerseys would be crazy!  Just like the pic of Larry up there.  I remember zooming in on players' jerseys last year and seeing the grass stains and tears... OMG!  That was pretty awesome guys!  Now, can you add to that?

Man, jellybean, thanks for the post. Ill have a great sense of accomplishment wrestling a ball away on fourth and goal. Should be awesome, especially on that part. I hated when a guy could just pick it up in the endzone.

Pro Tak should be great. Im loving it.

Loving the "Ben Stick." Everyone should love tht this year. IT was hardto avoid pressure, and I know guys were breathing sdown u alls neck after the super bowl. Eli Manning had the best one of all time, tho.

The jury will obviously be out on th Wildcat, but you guys did add it now, giving u time to fix it.

WOW. Matt Leinart from a 85 in 09 to a 62 thid year? Ouch. But appropriate, as well. Its great that guys who use the Raiders last year will not be able to do that, because speed cant save your QB's skills, or lack thereof.

And yes, he did mention kickers warming up o nthe sideline. Maybe the sideline will be fixed, eh?

Def will be buying it. GREAT JOB!!! MAKE US PROUD!

And I have a feeling franchise(

NOW CALLED DYNASTYY) WILL BE BETTER.

according to the speed chart, Jhonny knox's speed should be at least 97. he ran a 4.25 lets be real. EA you gave him a 94 speed and Harvin a 97 speed UNREAL. I am an online gamer...the wild cat off will be abused too much and should not be allowed in madden 10....the glitches must go: FG, extra point block, QB sneak ALWAYS WORK.

AND BUMHUNTER...SHOULDNT BE GETTING UP THE RANK SO EASILY..
