NCAA Football 10: Dynasty Details

Posted On: Apr. 30, 2009 3:50 PM EST By: Dewiel 103 Comments

Last week was the start of some great info on NCAA Football 10; we released the details on Season Showdown and then followed this week with the huge drop of TeamBuilder. If you have not seen anything about it there is a video here: What is TeamBuilder? and we are not done; expect to see even more details about Season Showdown in the upcoming weeks.

Also a couple weeks ago we released a video about Dynasty on the  NCAA Football 10 website. To be fair that video did not even come close to explaining the amount of detail that has gone into Dynasty Mode this year (and Online Dynasty).  Luckily I am able to take a little time and explain the other tuning we've been able to get done over the year. We also took a handful of screen shots to show... like so:

A lot of what was tuned for NCAA Football 10 was feedback gathered from forums and community day (held here in Maitland a few weeks ago). Before getting started I just want to say; Thank you everyone for helping us get together many of these details.

This blog is going to cover five different parts of our Dynasty Modes:

  • Recruits
  • Scheduling
  • Poll Logic
  • CPU Logic
  • Progression

Ok get ready for a pretty long read :)...

Recruits have undergone an overhaul to when they are created in Dynasty Mode. We are creating a situation where you simply do not "reload" with freshmen every year and instead have to actually allow your players to grow into juniors or senior for the majority of your roster. Here is a list of what was done with Recruits for NCAA Football 10:

  • Recruits will not come in as highly rated. Overall all recruits have been lowered in how high their Overall rating will be when they are created.
  • Not as many "elite" recruits. Instead of the majority of recruits starting out at 80+ there will only be a handful.
  • Recruits will take the quality of the school more into account when they are created. Location was too important when recruits were created in NCAA 09, going forward the quality of the school will be the most important factor. This also helps to slow down the growth of smaller schools when under CPU control.
  • 40 times are more realistic - you will not see any recruits come in with a 4.19 time.
  • ATH will now have more ratings to play different positions; the ratings have been redone to include attributes to make them true athletes. For example you'll find some ATH with Route Running and Man Coverage ratings that will allow you to place them at either WR or CB.

Scheduling in Dynasty has gotten a pretty major update; we've addressed a few issues from NCCA 09 as well as improved future year's schedules.

  • Big East Champ no longer tied to the Orange Bowl. Previously if you won the Big East you were forced to play in the Orange Bowl (unless playing for a National Title).
  • Big 12 schedule is now on a two year cycle. You play everyone in your division and then you play 3 teams from the other division for two years. In those two years you alternate between home and away. In years 3 and 4 it will switch to the other 3 teams in the other division (home and away).
  • Big 10 will not have night games in November. This was a new rule put in this year.
  • Arizona State always played Cal & Oregon State on the road in NCAA 09, this has been fixed.
  • Additional Rotations for conferences that do not a true rotation (Pac-10 for example) now games will not be on the same date every year. For example Stanford - Cal will always be the last game of Pac-10 schedule but Stanford - Oregon will be different dates in future years of Dynasty.

Poll Logic has been tweaked to allow for more early season movement as well as taking better account for the ranks of your opponents.

  • Biggest example is an unranked team beating two highly ranked teams can now become ranked.

CPU Logic has been updated in how they recruit, handle their rosters, and simulate games.

  • AI after filling all their needs will begin to target a specific position. In years past they would always go after QB's and FB's now in NCAA Football 10 the CPU will select different positions to attempt to add depth.
  • CPU will perform position changes. For example if they have two Right Tackles (84, 87) and one Left Tackle (75) they will move one of the RT's over to LT.
  • We revisited some of the simulation logic and now less teams are going undefeated

Lastly with the changes to recruits we had to make some changes to Progression.

  • With players coming in lower some stats will now progress faster. This also means ratings that did not progress in years past will now go up; for example Speed.
  • Team Prestige is now a much bigger factor in Progression; the quality of your team will influence how fast your players gain attributes.
  • Position Changes will no longer cause athletic attributes to go down (SPD, STR, ACC, etc.). When you move a player from WR to CB you will no longer see his speed drop.

That's quite a bit of information for Dynasty Mode (and Online Dynasty)... I feel like I'm back in school writing a 1000* word essay.

Thanks for taking the time to read over our updates.  I look forward to getting the game in your hands as July 14th fast approaching.

  • BenSchoolYard said April 30, 2009

Why can Madden add towels, hand warmers and short sleeve underarmor, fight for the ball, 9 man gang tackle and you guys cannot? That amazes me.

  • Madden8910fan said April 30, 2009

JJ4General they dont care if you buy the game or not because atlease 2 million other people are going. No one in the world is going to cry if you dont buy the game so shut up and enjoy the game they put out.

wow and i really thought that ea would put out a great update about NCAA, but you give me this. Still no updates on if you fixed the run blocking.  There's no real update on what the community wants except for online dynasty. we know it's updated tell us something different stop telling us the same stuff in different words.

  • Josh2J said April 30, 2009

cannot freakin wait for this game to come out ...yet again.  I am still playing 09!... I keep telling myself to put it away and rest up a bit before 10 comes out. I am gona end up burning up the xbox right as the new game gets released!

You guys are really hitting a homerun. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you.

  • cjones205 said April 30, 2009

Please fix the recruiting.  I had a guy scouted from week one and he was one week away from coming to my school.  The school he wanted did not even give a scholarship till that week.  Or why would a 5 star go to a college where he would not start till he is a Senior.  You say you can build a dynasty but you have to depend on transfer to do it. Why would a player not take a scholarship if you are the only one offering.  Can you please fix that as well?

  • Black Mamba205 said April 30, 2009

hopefully team overall ratings wont drop into the 50s now that players progress better.

  • pharaoh_00 said April 30, 2009

Russ says he can't wait for us to have this game, but we already do its called NCAA 09.  There is nothing new about this game other than create-a-school and that will get old, me personally I want use at all.  Madden has screenshot after screenshot and video after video about how they are giving us a different more realistic game.  You guys at NCAA need to do the same, I thought we would finally get to see something about gameplay.  In Madden's latest video players can gang tackle then other players run up a push the pile!  Thats what I want to see.  NCAA make your game true to the real thing, add refs, chain gangs, update equipment, better defense, and then add all that other crap.  Instead of fixing NCAA 09, how about you make NCAA 10.

  • MegaBearsFan said April 30, 2009

My biggest complaint with NCAA 09 was poorly balanced passing game.  I couldn't go a single game without throwing 2 or 3 picks at least, and the AI would put up 300 yards passing in first half no matter what defense I used.  I hope the AI QB starts taking a little more time in the pocket on average so that he hasn't thrown the ball by the time my linemen are out of their stances.  And I hope AI CBs are not interception magnets anymore and that my QB will actually lead the receiver intelligently.

  • Cannon Rose said May 01, 2009

cjones205, have you never heard of a guy named Mitch Mustain?  A five star qb and highest rated coming out of high school....only to transfer to USC following his freshman year.  Matt Barkley, another #1 rated passer, just picked USC when they have Corp (former 5 star qb that's only a junior) and Mustain.  Top players pick colleges no matter the depth all the time.

  • boilerfan1509 said May 01, 2009

The few things dynasty related that i would like to input:

    1.  FORMATION SUBS -  It was on old gen, and sucks (especially on special teams) that I cant chose who plays where.

    2.  Similar to your note about position switches and ratings, Let similar position switches be possible.  For instance if you have an LB, let him switch between MLB or OLB without much drop in ratings. Same with OT, OG, and C.  Some of those guys can play any position on the line.  FS, SS, & CB maybe have a small drop of, but not 15 to 20+ point dropoff. *** I have an idea for this, but i will save it for later, as to not jam the board.***

    3. Spring Game/Drills - I liked that, let the progression take place based on the spring game and drills.  Give us more options to this (let us pick sides, or go 1v1, 2v2, etc.), let some recruits come to school early.

    4.  ONLINE DYNASTY TRACKING - I think there is sooo much that can be done with this to keep us on your website (look to or get help from Avidmanager.com for an awesome base to build off of).  Let it be that once connected to the internet and once a player saves the game, it syncs up and updates the online.  I think this could be amazing.  Mainly, allow us to "go back in time", and "re-live" past seasons full of stats and ratings and stuff.  ****Millions of ideas with this, but yet again, not going to clutter***

    5.  Better menu screens - I liked the old Sports Illustrated magazines, but at least keep the "in-game" characters coming.  The pictures are great, but after a week we have seen them 10 times.  Also with this, i dont like always haveing to back out of the "news" screen to get to the regular menu (i know small complaint) but maybe take a look at this for small changes (Or better yet, combine with the online dynasty tracking and let us create our own menus.)

    6.  Ok...i will elaborate on the above menu/dynasty tracking thing.  If you opened up your season and you saw a ton of information (your complete schedule (basic), season leaders (in 5-6 categories), Conference Standings, Top 25, Heisman race (top 3-5), Top Stories Headlines, Recruiting Board (top 10 - basic), etc.) Have the basic menu at the top to just scroll across with, but make this all individual "wikis" (not sure if correct term).  That online, users can delete, expand, etc. to customize their own startup page (keeping the basic menus at the top).   Throw in letting users add their own music playlist and you are golden. ***I could go on for hours on ideas with this****

I saw over on 1up that the Teambuilder feature was going to allow you to make edits via a PC. I would looooove it if that sort of integration was expanded. Nerdy, I know, but I like to keep track of my Dynasty's rosters/stats over time, and if I could export that data directly to a spreadsheet instead of typing it in...man oh man.

  • mobes83 said May 01, 2009

One idea on the switching positions in dynasties. I like the fact that certain athletic ratings won't change. But if you take a Freshman LB and switch him to a DE, there should be some sort of penalty or something. Build it into the progression. I say this cause, if there is no penalty, everyone will have DE with 80+ speed ratings that will get in everytime. It needs to be a balance between strength and speed for an effective rusher. Size needs to be addressed when changing positions also. Taking a 6'3", 185lb WR and moving him to TE, he would need to bulk up quite a bit. As he progressively gets bigger, his speed needs to come down or else everyone will now have a 6'3" 235lb TE that has 88-91 SPD still. That is a mismatch on every level. This was a huge exploit last season.

  • gregelli@gmail.com said May 01, 2009

Position Changes will no longer cause athletic attributes to go down (SPD, STR, ACC, etc.). When you move a player from WR to CB you will no longer see his speed drop.

I was very glad to hear this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love everything so far this year. If you can tweak player transfers to be more frequent, please do.

It seems to be more common these days, especially for QB's (Marve, Mustain, Threet, Mallett, Snead, Keller, Nichol, Perriloux, Bomar) and that's just at the big schools.

If you can't tweak it for 10, keep it in your back pocket for 11. Thanks

  • Tical2399 said May 01, 2009

To the people who say just shut up and play the game they put out, that's the main reason companies don't usually try to make improvements. They figure (and some of your comments seem to back it up) they'll take whatever we give em, so no need to put too much work into it. This was always the case with EA games (although to be fair less with NCAA than Madden).

I think EA is putting the extra effort into this years games because either (a) the sales have been slipping recently (yes I know they still sell a ton, but maybe it been going down) or (b)And I think this is the real reason, there is a lawsuit in the supreme court that is suing the NFL for allowing exclusive rights to make certain NFL merch.

If the company wins then it would terminate all exclusive deals and any company would be able to make NFL stuff. I think EA is giving the big push to put in the features that fans have been asking for so that if the court cancels all the exclusive deals then EA will have a lot of fan happiness behind them to fight off return of the 2K series.

If the case fails you can bet the house that the 2011 games will (a) all be scaled back to 09 levels with the excuse that (it was too much work and the sales were not high enough to do warrant the extra features)or (b) they will just leave the stuff in and make no new changes for the rest of this console gen.

I hate to be one of those whiny fans, but I need to request 2 things from the NCAA 10 developers for the upcoming game:

    Knee Braces for Lineman

Leg Bands for Skill Position Players/Quarterbacks

You guys practically have every other accessory on your character models that their real life counterparts would have excluding these two items. For instance, look at a picture of Percy Harvin top to bottom, then look at the NCAA 09 character model of Harvin...you'll see what I mean. You could do the same thing for Mike or Maurkice Pouncey. I'm using the Florida Gators as an example, but there are a lot of players on different teams that don't look like they should without these items.

  • MalcomXMoody said May 01, 2009

great info but one thing I am unclear on... you are saying that the speed rating can be raised? by how much? i dont want to see an 85 speed guy raise to 99 speed just because he plays well, but going from 85 to 89 during a college career seems realistic.

  • Meanpaco said May 01, 2009

I enjoy the little graphic adds to the game.  Anytime you can add armbands and new helmets that is nice.  But the key is making the game more fun.  I like the new dynasty adds.  I like the new pocket idea so I don't have to run out of the pocket constantly.  More transfers make sense.  Recruits always sign with the high profile school only to find out later they won't play there most likely and transfer.

Also MLB and OLB play very different and I understand why the ratings change.  But I don't believe every MLB is a better OLB so I find that bogus.  I am glad ath stats aren't changing and I also like the Athletes are going to be true athletes.  But the bulking up of a WR switched to TE makes sense or at least have there blocking so bad that I decent LB or DE can run right over them.

Keep improving.  Online Dynasty is great.

  • Widowmaker1226 said May 01, 2009

Are you guys kidding me?  All this stuff is great and all, but you people are gonna tweak settings, ratings, and CPU logic?  How about a good football game on the field first?  One where there isn't 8 turnovers a game, or where your Quaterback is 26/27 with 4TD's.  Wow, I have an epiphany, a football game that actually calls more than 2 penalties a game!  You know what?  How about some new penalties!  Yeah, that's a good one!  I'm sick of seeing the same batch of penalties for 10 years now!  How about 12 men on-the-field, tripping, horse-collar, illegal formation, or unsportsmanlike conduct?  Why don't you fix that EA!  Why don't you guys stop making this crap every year (and Madden), and take a couple of years off to get this RIGHT!  I mean, through all of the patches that are put out after release to fix what is wrong,  half the game life is over!  GET IT RIGHT!  That's what we really want.  I guess if you keep getting millions of dollars every summer, I'd be hesitant to take a year off too.  One of these years, gamers are just going to stop buying your force-fed, annual garbage!  GIVE ME A BREAK!  I guess I'll go plug in my PS2 and play NCAA Football 2002 so I can actually play with Kent State in the REAL Dix Stadium.  Too bad I can't do it on my XBOX 360 where NCAA Football is entering its' fourth year.  Should I just suffice when you guys add a couple of stadiums in every year, when they all were already rendered on last-gen?  Unacceptable.  You guys are a joke!  In my opinion, you have only one option:  FIX IT AND DO IT RIGHT AND QUIT WASTING MY, AND ABOUT 2.5 MILLION OTHER GAMERS', TIME!  I believe you will make more money if you stop production on Madden and NCAA for two years.  Make the two best football games that money can buy afterwards, then do roster and feature upgrades every year thereafter on the marketplace or the PSNetwork for a decent fee.  Guess what?  If you charge $100 for each football game, I'd buy them if they turn out to be outstanding products.  Let us get a chance to play out that 60-year dynasty or franchise!  MAKE IT GREAT OR QUIT MAKING IT!  Oh, and I'm a 2K-hater by the way...But, at least they got the presentation down six years ago...And for $20, to boot!  EA, I love ya, in a sick way, but you have A LONG WAY TO GO.  A former customer, current gamer and game developer.

Instead of school prestige deciding the progression of an Athlete.  Maybe quality of coaches and grade of facilities and the time an athlete spends in the weight room and working on fundamentals of the game.  Additionally, if a freshman gets a lot of playing time because of blowouts why can't that have a say in player progression.  Also can I please have ball rotation back when the quarterback throws the ball.

  • JARUH18 said May 01, 2009

Sorry for such a long message. I've been holding back for a while hoping that these issues would be addressed. I guess they are not that obvious so I am voicing my opinion.  I love this game and it seems you (EA) are addressing the game play issues.  I commend you for that.  Keep up the good work! Some of these complaints I have may seem kind of insignificant but they mean allot to me:

    1. Will you have all the correct uniforms this year? This issue bugs me more than the stadium issue. The Washington Huskies unveiled new uniforms (home, away, alternates) at their spring game this year.  Will that make it into this year’s game? Or will we have another case like Virginia Tech's uniforms which are 2 years behind on NCAA Football 09...North Carolina's uniforms are mismatch (home and away are 2 different designs)...Texas Tech pants stripes don't align with the jersey stripes. This issue occurs EVERY YEAR. I understand some uniforms are unveiled with little time for changes to be put into the game but it would be nice if you would come out with uniform patch updates (like you did a few years ago) to solve this problem.

    2. Can we control the color of the team socks?  There are a number of schools that look bad with the high black socks. For example, the Ohio state Buckeyes look good with black ankle socks but in the winter months when it snows in Columbus (or anywhere else in the mid-west) they are still wearing ankle socks!  What makes it more annoying is the players (some) have long sleeves in cold weather.  So here is a player, smart enough to put on long white sleeves but leaves on his black ankle socks!  But even worse is when they do have on high socks it has to be black ones?  Have we ever seen The Ohio State University wear black high socks in real life?  That looks terrible!  The Bucs always have white high socks (or tights) when the weather is cold.  Can the gamer at least make the choice?

  • pharaoh_00 said May 02, 2009

Jaruh18, EA does not care about making the game true to life they just want to put something out every year.  They may say what your asking for is "insignificant" becaues it's about socks, but I'm sure thats the same thing they said about defense last year.  They thought to themseleves, who cares about defense people want to score, but everyone said back I hate how players on defense just stand there while the offense makes plays.  So they focus on defense this year, so if more people scream about having a more realistic game that is a true representitive of college football that you see on saturdays in the fall they will focus on things like that.

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 02, 2009

    1. i think the progression system should depend on how well the player plays like if he make the first team all american his freshman year his overall should boost up to like 88-90+ range. I would like to develope young freshmen whether they are a 1 star to 5 star to grow into their ratings. if i start a 1 star recruit RB with 97 speed and his overall is like 59 and he has like 1,200 rushing yards his first year and makes the 1st all freshman team then i think his overall should steadily grow as he has good game ( 100+ ) and at the end of the season his overall should be at 85 at his sophmore season.

    2. One issue i have is on the Dynasty mode, their are too many skinny little freshman recruits coming in, example WR 6'3 170 pounds and  I an not able to bulkin him up some and let him gain some weight and then when he goes to the NFL on madden 09 i still cant adjust his weight for the NFL. when a player enrolls into my college i want these freshmen to gain 15-20 pounds more when they leave college so they can be durable for the NFL game ( madden ) and so they wont get hurt and look realistic not skinny like a skeleton.

    3. just a question, is Ncaa Football 10 going to have the pro tak technology like madden 10 is going to have.

    4. on my dynasty why is my DB's having the most tackles on the team shouldn't be the linebackers for some reason both of my safties are getting 100+ tackles a piece and my linebackers are getting 20+ tackles a piece my linebacker never read and react when the RB runs up the middle and they never come down hill when they see the run coming so i have to use my saftey to make every tackle on the field which is ridiculous. make LB's play like LB's not like punks make them come down hill viciously and hit some one not sit and wait to the play comes to them. Even my CB's make more tackles than the LB's.

  • ricktheruler said May 02, 2009

With NCAA 09 why didn't my college's programs improve as my team did well from year to year? Some recruits wanted a school with high academics, but after 4 or 5 winning seasons, my academic rating was only "very good". We're talking about the Florida Gators! Even now I'm in year 8 or 9 and some of the programs ratings havn't changed. Filling up the stands each year should bring in more money to hire better teachers. The only way I found to fix this, is to quit that college and go to another college, then next year go back to your original. Sometimes it works, but it could bring your coach prestige down. Which brings me to being an elite coach. Why do recuits insult you when you pitch coach experience and your an elite coach? They should know that you're not some scrub coach if you win back to back National Championships. "I heard Florida is where all the bad coaches go before they retire" How dumb is that! I would would like to reply back sometimes saying, "Hey, you little snot nose punk. I got 4 National Champs titles, how many you got?" Anyway I know that's way off point, but it's just bad programming on EA's part if a recruit can't recognize your true skills.

  • ub_lighthero said May 03, 2009

Thanks EA for trying your best. Seriously though, no one has mentioned anything about the actual physics. Not to mention that the AI of the game is horrible (esp with QB's/receivers).

    1. If the QB has to throw the ball early (or late w/e) and your receiver isn't even looking, how can he turn around immediately, know where the ball is going to be, and catch it. I have seen this a few times, it's dumb...however, it has been mostly fixed.

    2. I play 5 min quarters on heisman...I shouldn't be able to beat ANY team 100+ to (anything) period. I should not have 10+ interceptions in a 46 defense with the strong safety in the zone. Please make the QB stop throwing to me...please...it's dumb. I'm standing still and he still throws a slant route right to me...ty for the pick, TD.

    3. At the same time, I've seen really *crappy* QB's throw for tons of yards in a game against an awesome D. Make the AI more realistic for the QBs...if a QB has an awareness rating of 50 or below, please make it show and not be 20/22 with 300+ yards passing against your 90+ rating cbs and safeties...I even try to mix the defense up to confuse the offense...it doesn't work...it should.

    4. On defense (in zone and even sometimes man coverage), can you please stop making a guy sprint one direction only to hit the L2 (PS3) button to instantly stop and be able to make a play on the ball in the opposite direction...the physics are horrible with that.

    5. Most of this has been fixed, thanks, but, please make it better - Linemen are just getting ran over too easily. Linemen are not supposed to follow your qb's moves...they don't know where the qb is most of the time...so, quit making them follow the qb and make an actual pocket with the tackles going to the outside...I hate when a DE swoops inside while the (obviously blitzing OLB) is coming hard outside and my tackle follows the DE hoping that the guard will get to the OLB...nice realism. *SACKED* - battle in the trenches is horrible.

    6. The running game is horrible. linemen stand still or try to only push the defenders down (only to fail most of the time, unless the cpu is on offense which seems to work when they have a 70 rating tackle knocking your 99 DT down instantly). You see this in real life when the defender isn't staring at you, you get nailed...but, if you see the blocker, it is rare that you just get hammered instantly to the ground. (Thank you for stating that a lot of this is being fixed in 10)

    7. On the same note, can strength actually play a factor in the game? 99 rating strength DTs should not be allowed to get knocked back by an 89 strength rating center ALL BY HIMSELF. It's very annoying. It's also annoying to see that a SS has 90 Hit Power and about 60-70 strength...really? Fix the physics...weight, acceleration, speed, and strength, and even height should ALL be taken into action. btw, the ratings on the finese moves, power moves, block shedding etc are all jokes in the game play...which leads to...

    8. Make the ratings show up in actual game play. Of course some players have bad games, but, I've gone through about 20 years in my Dynasty with a top rated team always dominating on the scoreboard...however, the stats don't show at all. For instance, if I win 56 - 0...in 5 min quarters (first of all, that's sad period), please don't have the cpu have 300 yards of passing (picks in zone coverage are too high).

    9. Lets get the fans and environment more into the game. Its not enough to just hear a heightened noise and vibration in the game...make your defense go crazy. Get players pumped up and others scared (perhaps not well rated players, but, smaller teams coming into your 100,000 fan stadium should feel the pressure). Winning games just gets really boring because the fans and players don't show how excited they are.

    10. QBs should be able to purposely *miss* a pass to a receiver in the area if he's under hard pressure in the pocket. For instance (ps3), make it to where if u push all the way over with your right analog stick, that you will purposely lead the receiver too much so that a defender close by him can't pick it off, or if you push it all the way down it will go down to the turf of the receiver you are trying to throw too. If you want to lead a receiver, make it to where you have to only push half way. (btw, this takes more skill and if a player is getting pressured, *normal* people will try to react faster, leading into more occurences where you lead too much)

    11. Thanks for taking our concerns and (hopefully) trying to make the game more real to us.

How come the designers of Madden 10 and NCAA Football 10 do not have to capacity to implement graphical details in the same manner as the the designers of Fight Nite Round 4.  No towels in NCAA Football 10, no new cleat designs, no unbuckled chinstraps, the same old stagnent sock styles and carrying the ball in conservative boring manners is pathetic and needs to be addressed b4 both Madden and NCAA Football are released

    11. Forgot one...how about instead of making Heisman level making the cpu rating go to like 99 for all of their players, just make it the hardest the cpu can play with the given ratings. A no named school with low rating offensive linemen should not be able to pound on my 95+ defensive linemen. It's not realistic. I'm tired of those "all-the-time" miracle plays against the cpu even if their team sucks and yours rocks.

    12. Please stop having the QBs run through defensive linemen. Really? A QB runs over a 275+ linemen who is super strong? that dude needs to avoid that guy at all costs...lol

i have a issue with my DL and LB getting more pressure on the QB they can never get to him, it seems like the QB would rather throw an int than just get sacked and move on to the next down this is very annoying. I have like 5 int or more per game because of this issue and needs to be addressed, my Strong saftey racked up 33 int's in one season because of this and it destoys the fun and competitiveness of the game EA, please fix this..

To Russ and the Development team for NCAA Football 10.....Please give the millions and millions of NCAA fans a better update this week.....Last weeks update was mediocre at best.....I want you to talk about the gameplay of NCAA 10 cause the gameplay in NCAA 09 sucked....I mean if you are scrambling out of the pocket to the left and you have a receiver running a crossing route with you to the left, and the defender covering him got held up and is now 4 steps behind the receiver you should not throw the ball behind the receiver and risk getting the ball picked off.....instead you should throw it out in front of him so he can keep running after he catches the ball.....Also fix the blocking between the OL and DL.....I mean you gave us an update way back when giving us a pocket, but go more in depth with that like you just did with online dynasty....Have the OLs get more pancakes, or show them pushing the DLs back....I say that because I'm so tired of trying to run the ball up the middle or a counter or even a stretch play and my OLs just barely touch or push the DLs right to me and I get tackled for a loss. Yea in real life the DLs can sometimes stop a play like that in the backfield if they get a great jump on the ball, but they don't do it all the time.....In the game it happens all the time just about.you maybe get like 4 times out of 10 times that you run it.....it sucks.....And please oh please fix something besides Dynasty mode.....people like to play the other things besides that you know.....For ex. fix the online gameplay....cause this might just be me, but whenever I play somebody online and I'm up by like 14 and then my connection gets lost and I have to quit the game because of that I get the loss even though I'm up....what sense does that make......Please EA listen to us and make NCAA Football 10 the best that it could be......Madden took the gloves off and are making an amazing game.....Why can't you do the same??????

A couple of things I have mentioned in previous forum posts are the ability to expand your stadium after a couple of good seasons. How cool would it be to take a small school, build up the program and as you attract more interest and fans, the school decides to add seats, expand with an upper deck, etc.

Second thing would be to add assistant coaches. You wouldn't have to necessarily show them on the sidelines but would be sweet to go out and try to hire away assistants from other schools, maybe they get lured from your school after winning a NC and they go be a head coach somewhere else. Your secondary get torched last season? Go out and hire a new DBs coach. Would be cool to expand the offseason to not only recruiting but also these realities with coaches moving around as well.

  • Curtwood09 said May 04, 2009

I didn't take the time to read everyone else's posts so I'm not sure if anyone else has said this but ya'll should add in the effect of Home Field Advantage to both teams in a neutral area (such as a bowl game or Florida-Georgia in Jacksonville) and ration it somewhat to the location and importance of bowl games (like if the South Florida plays Maryland in the Gator Bowl there is still going to be a lot of Terp fans in attendance but not as many as Bull fans because it's not a major bowl but if they are in the National Championship game its probably going to be about half and half). Also in in-state rivalries (especially USC-UCLA) the team scheduled as home isn't necessarily going to have home field advantage. And take out those stupid mascot games, I'm pretty sure people only even open it up for the achievement. Also, after I win the National Championship I don't want to just see a picture of the trophy and a message telling me Great Job, let's see some people rushing the field  and junk. On that note if I am Western Kentucky and I beat a pretty good team I want a pretty big celebration as well. Maybe its just me but I would feel more accomplished. And maybe this is a little too much detail but when a player scores his first ever touchdown a little mini-celebration would be cool too, especially in Campus Legend if it is coming back.

Cmon Quick...you act like I created a player with 99 ratings...I'm talking about players who build over the years (without my assistance) to get a 99 rating. These players should be top of the line best at what they do. However, it's sad that when you play on Heisman level against the cpu, that 99 rating doesn't really mean much in game. For instance, a 99 overall rating OL should not be handled by a 70 rating DL. That's just rediculous. And the 99 rating OL should not get knocked by consistently by anyone blitzing. Sure it happens, but, not that often if the player is rated 99...or even 95...seriously, make the ratings matter.

  • kingky82 said May 06, 2009

Everyone has made some very good points, especially zenseekersamurai. I like your idea of the whole hiring, firing, and just overall carousel of the coaching world. Its a lot like 2K's college hoops 08, where you have a couple of assistants who have different abilities in regards to defense, recruiting..ect. You could have that for football where you hire existing, or create assistants who have different coaching skills. Some might be good recruiters, or some might be outstanding D coordinators( Will Mauschamp) How cool would it be that after you win a NC your DC gets a head coaching gig, and you play against him, and you can expect a similar playing style at his new school to the one he instilled at yours. That would be a great off season feature.

    EA,

All in all I think this game is shaping up to be very good. I think if you guys just capture as much reality in the game as possible your not going to produce a bad game. The rating changes, blocking...ect all sound like they are going to be much improved. If you guys just analyze each years game and take the best parts of the game, and change/drop the bad your going to succeed. For instance the couple years you had stadium pulse....why get rid of it??? those were the last years of NCAA football where the crowd was half way decent. Im not implying to necessarily keep the actual meter( there are a lot of pre snap things you have to do)but the crowd was much more realistic then. Also dropping some of the cameos, mascott game...ect, the true sim gamer isnt going to spend the majority of their time farting around with those features. So utilize the space to make the game more authentic! I want to feel like Im at Beaver stadium on a cool october night in a white out, and NOT at a golf match.

    The two things, and Ive said it in many other posts That I think would really put the icing on the cake are these;

    1. CROWD, CROWD, CROWD AUTHENTICITY!!! I cannot stress it enough how much a very reactive/authentic crowd would take this game to another level. I commented on it in a earlier post, about a ingame situation at Autzen stadium. Id go out on a limb and almost say that you could fall short in a few gameplay areas and most gamers would disregard them if the crowd was on cue, reactive, and given the stadium, and importance of the game it was an intense environment. Crowd/stadium sounds would be the #1 priority in things to fix/improve leading up to the release.

    2. Accessories/Players hair. If you guys could add a few more accessories, mainly hair styles to players it would be fantastic! Medium dreads, long dreads, pony tail, and long straight hair is all I would ask. You guys had it for the previous gen, it would be awesome if you brought the hair back! Once again it would take the authenticity of the game to another level...I PROMISE YOU. Tattoos. Just throw in a handfull of tattoos for upper arm (bicep), and fore arm. Maybe 10 for the upper arm, and 10 for the fore arm.

Other than those two things I think this game will be great. I cant wait til the team builder site launches.

Please please please please please please tweak the exporting of draft classes. Nothing is more frustrating than having a great QB who is rated 98 ovr not appear in the exported class. It's like Russian Roulette out there, I can't figure out who the heck gets exported, and why it's only a few of each position. After the 3rd round of the draft in Madden, there aren't any QBs to take! Sure would be nice to take my dyansty QB in the 7th round if he's a sleeper. Also, how about noting on the player profile what awards that player won, so when it appears in Madden, I know that I'm drafting the winner of the Thorpe, Maxwell, or Heisman! Please tweak the way the ratings transfer to Madden too! My 99 spd receiver turns who runs a 4.2 turns into a 89 spd receiver! I don't understand! Oh, and how can SOOO many players be 99 ovr at returning kicks?

How about a "Coach Em Up"?  In the Roster screen, you can select 5 players a week and tell them things like:  eat more, eat less, lift arms, lift legs, run sprints, work on playbook...

It would allow you to better simulate a coach because you could work on a specific problem a player has.  Not too much impact is needed, just to the point where you can raise the awareness, speed, strength or what have you to a respectable level.

Something like 5 points over the course of the season ON TOP of the natural progression of these players.

Think of it like the weekly madden drills you used to be able to run.  EXCEPT you dont actually have to do the drills.  Just go tell the players to work out.

This would allow for much greater dynamics in the team building area.

How many times did you say...why did he get stronger??  I wanted him to raise his speed!!

Kudos on the Dynasty improvments! The next two issues may only be PS2 related but check in the PS3 version as well.

    1. Player promises – can there be a record of what is promised? When simulating the offseason, a player may leave and I have no idea why.  I could’ve prevented the player from leaving if the promise was listed somewhere.

    2. Update the alternate uniforms for UNC (dark blue pants, white top) and UGA’s (black top, silver pants). I have a few more alternate fixes as well.

    Look forward to July 14.

2 Things I would like to add to the dynasty mode

    1. the ability to recruit transfers

    2. the ability to begin your coaching career as a FCS team and then be hired into the BCS (I don't mean edit the conferences to put a FCS team in the BCS to start off with, but actually begin coach at Cornell or App. State and then can either bring the team into the independents after a few years or get a coaching job at a school in the Sun Belt or MAC conference)

The final thing I would like to see added to the game is an actual updated version of Indiana University's stadium. IU is going to have a horseshoe this year and it would look awesome on the game.

Please, please, please fix the LACK OF PASS RUSH!!!!!!!

In the league I was in, guys were putting athletes that should have been playing wide out or corner at defensive end to generate some kind of pass rush !!!

I had five star defensive end recruits who could not get close to the QB!! I have not read anywhere that this would get fixed!

I know you guys were trying to make the offense wide open but being an ex defensive end and a defensive minded guy. I like to put QB's on there back or force em to throw quick to generate turnovers.

Yes I lit a lot of folks up because I had all day to throw but balance the game out guys.

It is hard enough trying to take down a person playing with a powerhouse like Florida with like a Maryland and I cant get any pressure on them.

NCAA 2010 should be more balanced out and leave the wide open game play to the users playing the game skills.

Also fix in dynasty recruiting all the WR with 4.1 speed but only like three CB's could match them and those three CB's go to six star programs !!! Then your left with CB's with 89 speed getting there ass handed to them by WR's with 98-99 speed!!!

There was also issues with players you talked into staying, leaving when the online dynasty was saved and advanced.

Also guys cheating uploading there online file multiple times until they get there star player to stay, not going pro and after four years the guy has won the Heisman four times and has 10,000 yards receiving at the end of his career!!!!

  • OneMD said May 12, 2009

I have questions for each one of these 5 features.

    1. My online dynasty has been playing for 15 seasons and the commissioner of our dynasty has Colorado. We noticed how biased ncaa 09 is to the power schools as well as the schools in recruiting states like Cali,Ohio, texas, and florida as far as recruit interest. At a big school or a school in a major recruiting state, they can fill thier board with 35 guys with high interest between 5 and 4 stars. For the non big schools it takes an unrealistic amount of success to garner interest. We were starting to think that no matter how succesful he was there would be no change in interest. Finally in year 15 he can finally fill his board with 35 interested quality recruits. Do you know what he had to do to achieve that? For 15 years he has never lost more than twice in a season and won 4 national championships. 15 straight seasons of at least 10 wins and 4 national titles and then finally it gives him some love!? It sounds to me like you are taking away the state advantage but empowering the big schools even more with interest. How is this going to affect created teams starting with low prestige in online dynasty? I hope I dont have to have unbelievably tremendous success for 15 seasons and win 4 titles to finally get recognition.

    2. I have no questions about the scheduling but I will say that when players use alternate uniforms in our dynasty, the opponent only sees the default uni. Not cool if it hasnt been addressed especially for create a school.

    3. cpu ai on recruiting. Explain your example to me about left and right tackles. Whats the difference between having 2 LTs and 2 RTs? Are you saying if there are 2 LTs that the rule you create for the AI is to have at least 2 RTs by default? If you move the tackle over to the right then you are still stuck with 1 on the Left side. Or are you saying that the 2 higher rated guys are on the left side so they move 1 to the right side since the RT already there is significantly lower?

    4. Progression. I like the idea of progressing faster. I have a problem with the example you used for athletes though. When you swap a CB and a WR. Those are 2 of the only positions that do not take away from your speed rating when you switch between them anyway. But it seems like a way to cheese players in all different kind of positions. Speaking of cheese what is going to be done about restarts? What is going to be done about the ability to save the game offline then do your recruiting, find out which are the 3 highest interest pitches, go back to the online and unlock the 3 highest interests? Not to mention whoever saves it offline has unlimited access to every other player's recruiting board.

  • OneMD said May 12, 2009

Oh yeah i almost forgot about the players leaving early for no logical reason glitch that the poster above talked about. Its not gonna matter if they mature into good players when they are juniors if they keep leaving for no good reason after thier freshman and soph years.

I only have one suggestion that, I think, would completely change the way we play the game. It also would influence the nation's point of view of college football.

    OPTIONAL PLAYOFF SYSTEM:

Having the option of playing a playoff rather than the BCS championship bowls. Being able to change the postseason into a playoff would spark the imagination of the entire country. People would be able to "test" a new and ingenious system that I honestly think would work in the real world.

You could have a set system of, lets say, a 16 team playoff with every conference having an automatic bid in and then retrieving the next 5 at-larges from some sort of poll, possible the USA Today, Coaches, or the current BCS.

    -OR-

You could give the option of what type of playoff each gameplayer would want to be a part of. 4-team? 8-team? 32-team? The possibilities are endless.

With Team Builder being hailed as the "best new feature in any sports game," I think the innovative OPTIONAL PLAYOFF SYSTEM would make NCAA Football 10 "the best sports game ever."

  • palirider13 said May 27, 2009

    1. I think during the an online dynasty, the top 10 highlights from the prior week (points awarded) should play on a background reel during the main menu.  It would be cool to see some highlights from your fellow opponents games.

    2. There should be more than one camera view.  In the ps2, I always used the overhead/classic camera which sets it back a bit more, allowing you to see more field.  It also seemed like the running game moved more fluid at that level.

    3.  Bowl Game patches and game detail would great when it comes to the post season.  This is what we play for.  Reward us with special features when it comes to Bowl games.

    4.  Fix Iowa's home uniforms.  When did they ever have yellow numbers?

Thanks for putting the time and effort into making NCAA one of the best game series ever!

I love online dynasty and online play now dont get me wrong but I dont always like playing online with other people all the time and I like to play Campus Legend a lot.. how about giving us more for that. Make the progression of your player more realistic. My little brother is 8 and made a scrambling QB and was starting over Chase Daniel by the 3rd game. When would that ever happen? And what happend to actually playing your drills to raise your stats.. instead of picking go to the gym on a list let us actually lift weights or let us answer some study questions to boost our GPA or let us pick our have some interaction with the trainer like going to get our ankles wrapped or letting us get tapped to lessen the chances of injury to those areas. It seems like after you get to the point where you are starting and you dont need to practice anymore then it ust becomes games and evening activities and it gets old. Give us some more to keep us involved thoughout the year.. after all you are living the life of a college football star. its supposed to be more interesting.

  • cOrPoRaL06 said June 02, 2009

Looking very nice. I'm really glad the online dynasty "players leaving" thing has been fixed.

I would really love to see Formation Subs. I'm still at a loss as to why this feature has not been included. It seems so simple and essential to add it. Things like adding player towels and whether or not Texas has their new style helmets is minor. I would rather see improvements to gameplay. There's always room for improvement in the detail department, but come on. Stop with the "you guys should have different colored cleats" -- that's ridiculous and pointless.

@TRUMADDENFAN ... Yeah, the ACC Championship game was played at Raymond James Stadium (AKA the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers... a bit more notable than USF) because that's where the ACC Championship IS played.

I remember on College Football USA '96 for the Sega Genesis that they allowed you to choose between a playoff or bowl games at the end of the year. It would be pretty neat to create a hypothetical post season playoff system for the Top 8 (or an option of 10, 12, 16 ?)teams year in and year out. Of course, this would be optional and you could still include the other bowl games with it -- but it seems pretty cool.

I'm really pleased to hear that 40 times have been fixed because there was WAY too many 97+ WRs in each recruiting class. Pretty aggravating. There might be TWO or THREE of those at the most each year and that is probably pushing it.

I would just like to see some improved blocking (the CPU would murder your running game no matter what) and less of the 300+ yard passing games from the CPU. When they wanted to move the ball -- they moved it and you couldn't do a thing about it. Although, most of the time they would end up throwing a pick or missing a FG so your final score was probably 42-14 in your favor despite the fact that they may have outgained you!

Some improvements to the game atmosphere would be nice. The crowd never seems to really reflect what's going on in the game. I really liked the composure system and (if worked on) could really bring a realistic feel to the game. The home crowd should be going absolutely nuts in rivalry games. I've experience Alabama vs. Auburn and it is insanely electric in that stadium come gameday. There just needs to be some improvements in the crowd noise and how it affects players. That's a BIG part of college football.

  • BIGGRUSS said June 04, 2009

First off, the '10 edition looks AMAZING and may be hard to improve upon... but maybe a few additions will make this game truly complete:

    1. I read an earlier comment about adding a SENIOR BOWL, an idea that I thought was genius. If it does come into production for next year (or years after) make it more appealing for the 4 and 5 star players to stay for that game, to make it a true college all-star game. It could also spark more interest in the real-life game which is good for college football. AND if you guys wanted to sponsor the event, there's some SERIOUS national plugging during play-by-play... something to think about...

    2. One of the disappointments I've had during the trademark dynasty mode is the lack of a true "build a program" where not only do the team's/coach's prestige go up, but also the size of the stadium itself as the attendance goes up. I am seeing news of stadium additions, renovations and location changes all the time... but making those changes in the game is still not an option unless you start from scratch in "create-a-school," not nearly as much fun as watching your home team's progress. That, and with 2010's incredible stadium detail... the ridiculous creations of stadium engineering would be such a cool feature when going online.

Again, GREAT JOB THIS YEAR! Keep them coming and (since my first love of ncaa 2004) I'll definitely keep buying them each year!

i would just like to see a few things, first is to show fans storming the field after a big upset and a pre game and half time show

I am tired and fed up with every year you play a regular on a dynasty on all you do is play a bowl game, or if you are lucky, go the the championship. I would like to see u have a playoff feature on the dynasty. You should have a chose at the beginning of a season whether you want BCS or playoffu want BCS or. Let us chose how many teams we want it the playoffs, like 8, 16, 32, or 65. Make it where the teams that dont make the playoffs, go to a bowl. The 4 major bowl games like the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, and Orange bowls wou be the quarter finals of the playoffs. So please, give us a option whether we want BCS or playoffs on dynasty

Only Tennessee Auburn Mississippi State Kentucky Vanderbilt available for an all sec online dynasty! I know they are not the best teams in conference but was hoping to find a real fan of one of the schools or someone who wants a challange. Visit the facebook group NCAA 10 sec ballers or email me at danieltalley@rocketmail.com.

I had a question for Russ Kiniry. I played the demo a few days ago and noticed a cool feature that you added to dynasty mode was the ability to switch a team's conference in a 1 on 1 trade (ex. sending TCU to the WAC for Fresno State going to the Mtn West.... you know what I mean). My question is.... what will happen with their corresponding fields. For example Fresno State has the WAC logo on their field and TCU has the Mtn West logo on their field. Will the game switch the logos too when a team switches conferences? or will they just stay the same and just the schools switch conferences with having a WAC logo on the field of a team that in the present dynasty now plays in the Mtn West and vice versa? thanks

just like on season showdown, you you show have a playoff on the dynasty. You should have a chose at the begining of the year whether you want BCS or playoffs. You should also put a tournament mode on the game. You should be able to choose how many teams you want in the playoffs, 8, 16, 32, 65. The teams that does not make the playoffs should go to a bowl game, just like NIT Tournament in basketball. If you get eliminated in the 1st or 2nd rounds, then you should go to a bowl game also. The 4 major bowl games like the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, and Orange bowls should be quarter Finals of the playoffs. So please, give us a chose on the dynasty whether you want a playoff, or BCS, instead of just having bowl games at the end of the season on a dynasty. Also please put a tournament mode on the game please.

senior bowl please. you have pro bowl on madden. put senior bowl it on ncaa

OPTIONAL PLAYOFF SYSTEM. Give us a choice whether we want playoffs in the post season, rather than ordinary BCS championship bowl games. It will change the excitement of the postseason. You make a 16 team playoff. You can put the 11 conference champions in it. The other 5 teams could be 5 at large teams coming from the USA Today, Coaches, or the current BCS polls. The 4 major bowl games like the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, and Orange bowls would be the quarter finals of the playoffs. The teams that does not make the playoffs could go to a bowl game.

                                        OR

I'm not sure I trust any game to have better "poll logic" when they have LSU ranked at #5 right out of the box.

  • CoachNewman said July 18, 2009

it looks to me that 3 things should be added for NCAA 2011

    1. Optional Playoff System(top 8) Just like they are trying to get, everyone else goes to bowls, with the Playoffs at an NFL stadium not used  by any colleg team(Cincinatti?? IDK)

    2. Assitant Coaching- Have a coaching career much like NCAA Basketball where you could start as a cordinatoer and hoepfully do enough to get a head coaching job(like teh play only when your on the field, play when your either d cordinator or o cordniator)

    3. School add-ons, if u turn a Idaho school in to a 5 star program then you should be able to add on to make the stadium realistic

just giving opinions but these would be great

Online dynasty servers are not working properly in both 09 and 10. Dear EA, how about you address this issue since it's been going on for almost a week. You're most publicized feature isn't working, get your act together. No one cares about season showdown or demos for NBA and NHL. Fix the issue.
