NHL 10 Producer Blog - Part Two

Posted On: May. 8, 2009 7:01 AM EST By: sk88z 56 Comments

Hey NHL fans.  It's the night before the NHL 10 Community Event and I thought I would get ahead of our early morning and post part two of the video blog I recorded with David Littman this week.

David and some of the other producers will be joining the community on Friday to give them their input not only from NHL 09, but they will also get some hours with the current build of NHL 10 and be able to provide the team with some valuable feedback that will hopefully help the team create an even better title as they near the Beta state of the game.

Make sure you tune in to EA SPORTS Live at 12:00 PST for coverage from the NHL 10 Community Day and here on the Inside EA SPORTS blog for stories and video as well.

Awesome stuff David! I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED hearing how the passing has been fixed. I can't wait!

thanks for the tips *** boy, i cant wait to ride my stick to get the game, mmmmmmmmmmmm yeaaaaaaaaaa

I love hearing all of this. The biggest thing I, and many of my friends who play this, really really want is more accurate arenas, the arena model itself not the ice.  Philips Place is waaayyy off, as is Mellon Arena, American Airlines Center, the list goes on and on. Really I can think of a handful that even look remotely like the real thing.

One more thing I would like to see more of this year is playoff details.  Two major things for me would be adding the "Stanley Cup Playoffs" logo on the ice during the playoffs, and having user controlled Stanley Cup celebrations that go on as long as you want.

Also, could you guys utilize the new PS3 feature of taking game screenshots via XMB?  I love this feature as it allows me to view my shots directly on my computer in .png format and in 720 or 1080, depending on what resolution the game is being played in.  It would just be easier than having to upload to easportsworld then download...ugh. Also, it would be great if we could take them anytime like in menus and during the Stanley Cup photo.

  • MightyMidge7 said May 08, 2009

Something you guys should consider for NHL 10 is the hat trick. I noticed last year that the crowd did not throw a hat when a player got a hat trick. It's something small, but it's really cool to see. Very cool video and I'm glad that there will be no always goals those were always obnoxious.

  • Habsolute said May 08, 2009

Awesome stuff Dave, love to hear about the more "authentic" approach and continuing what you guys have already been working on.

  • JAGRMAISTER said May 08, 2009

Sounds awesome, can't wait, anyways yeah like i stated before, Game face like in TIGER WOODS would be sweet, breaking of the sticks, glass breaking when getting hit into the boards, better one timers, create a program where you can upload your own INTERNATIONAL jerseys, milestones, hat tricks, better fights, more brawls, please include all this in the 2010 version, what else can you ask for? More injuries, like in MADDEN 09, goalie interferences, fix the 3 stars of the game, all the players skate out with no helemets, make it more realistic!! Bring back the direcct PLAYOFF mode, like back in the days when you were able to use current playoff teams, season mode and playoff in the european leagues!! So far looks great!! Thanks Dave

I'm so pumped about this release, can you move it up to June???..lol....I love everything you've said David.  Keep up the great work with your team!  Any changes coming with the fighting engine and number of fights per game for online play?

  • JAGRMAISTER said May 08, 2009

Oh yeah one more thing, please don't forget to fix the PA announcer so he can say everyones name in the game, the last 2 years of the series, alot of players names were left out like for example, Marc Staal on NYR, etc.

  • danhockey16 said May 08, 2009

im really pumped for this game its gonna be awesome

few things that should be fixed from nhl 09     when a goal is scored the celebration is almost always the same   should be addressed more to the player    like ovechkin jumping to the glass

in dynasty mode when you played with a drafted player   the announcers almost always announced them by a different name

and bring back the goalie fights    those were sick

  • gatorbaitor7 said May 08, 2009

Was talking with my hockey buds and we came up with a few more requests to meet that theme of "authenticity" you guys are throwing around.

An equipment damage engine is sorely needed, at least for offline play (to avoid obvious exploitations).  Broken sticks and glass would really add to the realism as they both happen frequently in the real game (have them as an on/off option). Have a pane of glass replaced due to a crack and have the camera zoom in on it now and again.  When a stick does break, have it remain out there floating around until the next whistle, and make stickless players' glove passes and blocks possible through perhaps L3 and R3.  Make helmets and gloves dynamic where they can fly off in a big hit, etc.  Just keep the frequency of these things to a realistic minimum and don't exploit them over and over as a overly glaring new feature that we all soon have to turn off.

Controls for glove-to-ice maneuvers, setups behind your net, goalie setups, and blue line straddling are also sorely needed.  These four things are fundamental to the game of hockey and are all impossible or hard to do in the EA NHL series thus far.  Straddling the blue line with the puck just in is sometimes an important maneuver and some control over that would be nice.  Also, it is very difficult to get your player to stop and set behind his own goal and actually look DOWN ICE to start an offensive attack.  Some better way to get him and the goalie set back there would be nice. Goalie touch up and setting needs to be able to be fully controlled.  Finally I wish there was some way to make your player reach for a puck and put it to the ice with his glove.

The PA system needs to be addressed.  First, make sure all the players in the game at least, are all addressed properly by the PA announcer.  Also, I believe that other hockey video game has a French PA announcer in Montreal which would be nice to hear.

The fighting system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up and goalie fights need to at least be possible.  It would also be nice not to see the fight controls instructions before EVERY single fight, I would much rather see the players staring each other down and throwing the gloves and helmets to the ice than that ridiculously simple instructions screen (that's what the manual is for).  Some variation in animation sequences here would be a must to keep fights from being very boring.

Loved the real equipment choices in BAP last year, could we have even more sticks, skates, helmets, etc. to choose from?

A fully customizable direct playoff mode would be awesome.  As the playoffs are a two month season in and of themselves, being able to select the current playoff teams and starting in that mode would be great.  Of course, with a user controlled celebration and picture when you win the Stanley Cup!

Finally, the crowd noise was great last year, but more realistic reactions are necessary.  Sometimes I would gain a breakaway only to hear little to no reaction from the crowd.  Other times the goalie would make about 8 straight saves in an onslaught only to get a mild reaction, I want a ROAR.  Also, if accurate diddys for each team could be included that would be great too (or at least the most famous ones).

Last but not least, if a hat trick is scored can we please please please please see some hats out on the ice?  And if you win the Stanley Cup can we see gloves, sticks, and helmets fly up into the air and out on the ice floating around as we take our user controlled cup around and around the rink?

  • DstrongKNIGHT said May 09, 2009

Very good video on what is going on with NHL 10. Nice Job Dave.

  • Fiiu said May 10, 2009

Sounds good. Looks like you guys know what you're up to. gatorbator7 had some good points and ideas, I had the same idea about equipment damage engine so no reason to write that up.

There's still one thing that kinda bothers me: bodychecking. First of all, sometimes when you try to hit a player and he evades the hit your player might make a 90 degree turn and hit next "available" player and this results a penalty almost every time. Yes, the penalty is good BUT why does the player have to hit someone? Why the players are sometimes "locked to target"? If this happens it's inevitable that the hit will be processed through no matter what you do. This is one of the things that need to be changed.

Second, hitting a player should be a little bit harder and some effect should be in place. If you just give a small push the player might just lose his balance a little bit and continue (which happens often in 09, good) but if you really deliver a big hit that should have some effects. Head-on collision on the ice should sometimes result that the player will recover a bit slower. No attribute juggling, just a few seconds more to get up from the ice and possibly to pick up the lost gear.

This might be too late to ask for these additions but we're already waiting for a patch to NHL10 ;)

Oh, and make the fights worth it, small momentum or something. Make sure it's not possible to "cheat" in fights (now you can, simultaneously tapping punch & dodge).

Thank you EA hockey team for your efforts towards EASHL. It's the reason I've got NHL 09 and there are too many exploiters currently playing making me and a lot others lose interest. Expecting NHL10 to turn a new page in online multiplayer gaming!

P.S. When we are able to save highlights from the whole game? If not possible, make the highlights in "Top highlights" longer than 2 seconds. Now they're practically worthless. 10 seconds per highlight if it's a goal, hits are done in 2 secs allright. :)

    My 2 cents...

  • moseph1717 said May 10, 2009

In terms of making dynasty mode better and more real I have come up with a hand full of ideas.  First injuries should be more common, my players never get injured, and there should be some long season ending injuries as well.

Second, you should be able to set up player matchups prior to a game so you can have your checking line or top defensive pair or both out against the other team’s top players (and the computer should run matchups against the user).  This could make the game a little tougher always having your scorers out against the top D men and checkers and would be awesome in the playoffs.

Third, this will help if the above is done; make the computer smarter when it makes its own lines.  Make it so the computer will give itself a good shut down line for example Calgary having Conroy center the third line and not the first.  As well as balancing the team so there’s not a line of three playmakers on line 1 and on line 2 there’s three scorers. And making defensive assignment where one player is matched up with another player and just shadows them all game.

Fourth, make the coaching and make them have some kind of impact on the players stats, for example if you have John Tortorella there will be a modifier in place to make the players play his style and play more aggressively, or you could have a coach that preaches fighting. Have the ability to fire and hire your coach as well making older more experienced coach have a more all around and larger impacted and newer younger coach more focused on one area of expertise.

When watching hockey especially the playoffs you see a lot of driving the net and players losing an edge or being pushed into the goalie so it would be cool to see the goalie getting bulled over from time to time with the net getting knock off and maybe injuries occurring from it.

Suspensions is another thing that should be tweaked, hitting form behind or crosschecking the face causing the player to miss at least one game and making hitting from behind and cross checking less likely.

One other thing that would be cool is to bring back rivalries and make them better, where if you’re facing a rival team make the game a little more quicker and more physical. Having the ability to make new rivalries would be cool to.

And add the European leagues to dynasty making unsigned players going to Europe or having players come back to the NHL like Jager or Emery, or even bring back Turk for one last season.

  • gatorbaitor7 said May 10, 2009

Fiiu made a good point, the fights should count for something depending on when they happen.  Perhaps a momentum boost if you win or a deficit when you loose the fight.

One other thing I forgot that others have mentioned: highlights.  The NHL 09 approach to in-game and post-game highlights was almost pointless.  They looked nothing like what you would see on a real TV broadcast.  There needs to be some sort of half-time and post-game analysis with 10+ second replays and some sort of commentary on each goal. The commentary may be too much to ask for at this late stage.  Nevertheless, the replays need to be longer.

Secondly, the camera angles were too repetitive and not very realistic.  I would like to see something like what the guys over at Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 are doing; which includes more TV broadcast style camera angles.  When we see a broadcast we see cameras behind the glass, in the corners and behind the net.  You can often see several scratches on the glass in front of the camera, add those.  Also, can you add an animation so that when a replay shows a check in that corner the camera shakes a little, give some weight to the feel of a man getting plastered into the wall.

Pre-game animations are too repetitive, have the players shoot a few practice goals on their goalie, maybe even give us control of each practice goal. Also, have a camera pan around the arena and show the ceiling and scoreboard a little, more than just the boring ice below.  Maybe even show 3D commentators talking to the camera with the dark arena in the background with spotlights searching around.

It would be nice to be able to have a button to press after every goal or big hit that you can see a CPU controlled replay just like in NBA Live 09.  Also, in NBA Live you can change camera angles during that replay with by clicking Right Stick, that would be sick!  Keep in mind these are CPU controlled replays, you don't have do hit X to play and you don't have the control bar at the bottom showing the progress and FF RW controls, that is what the pause menu "Replay" is for.

Also when you go to the pause menu can we please see a moving camera panning around the whole arena in the background like in NCAA Football, Madden, and Fifa?  That would be much better than the static background of NHL 09.

As me and my friend have been playing the ea sports hockey from the start. And there are some new ideas that we would love to see in this game.

    1)Multiplayer Be A Pro Mode

    2)Blood

    3) Double minors would be a real move

    4) Deking needs to be improved

    5) Defenseive skill stick

    6) Better Be a Pro Goalie movements

    7) Real masks, gloves, pads etc of players

    8) customize equipment like color and designes, plus goalie neck guards

    9) Use Fight Night engine for fighting in game

    10) Bench brawls is a great idea

    11) Broken sticks on shots and slashes and drop sticks when broken or get a 2 mins in the box

    12) A customize room for my be a pro mode where i can store my jerseys for the teams that i play for threw my career. milestones and records kept. first goalie puck, 100 points in a season puck. stuff like that. Replica trophies kept threw the years that i win for my player.

    13) ECHL teams for all teams

    14) in be a pro mode. you should start down in the echl and play 1 season or more depending on how good you are, then be moved to the AHL and play there for a season or 2 also or unless called up for injury players and then be moved to NHL level by your 3rd year or so

    15) Have a draft day in the game to were your characther goes up and recieves the jersey of that team

    16) Broken glass with shots or checks

    17) achievements should be based on be a pro mode, like winning every trophy for those positions and milestones kinda like nhl2k's versions

    18) warmups before game to just shot or play around before the drop of the puck.

    19) Different entrance for each team.

    20) Crowds so play a factor in the game also. Crowd being interactive like banging on glass

    21) Playoff beards

    22) Show videos for you be a pro mode highlights from the game before would be nice

    23) Change up the actions when winning the cup every year

    24) Awards giving out at the end of season

    25) Banners getting raised the following year

    26) Different rink announcers

    27) Add more words and phrases for them to say instead of the same stuff every game

    28) All-stars Comps in the season

    29) Ejections from the games

    30) Too many men on the ice penalty

    31) Goalie interference needs to come back into play

    32) Deflections need to be used as the right analog stick plus a button hold

    33) Goal review. there has been many of times that the puck is in but no goal so in real life its there and football has it so why not hockey

    34) 4 refs on ice

    35) Diving penalty add in

    36) real arenas in the game

  • mistereric said May 11, 2009

Here are a few of my ideas....let me know what you think

Get rid of glitch goals..it’s bs how this game doesn’t seem to reward those who play a realistic style of hockey like setting up plays and using proper positioning….instead you have these idiots who skate up along the boards and as soon as they get over the blueline they cut in towards the slot with their stick outreached and do that crappy wrist shot that goes in almost everytime….i myself wouldn’t find it too much fun if I sat there doing the same move over and over…even if it allowed me to win games…..perhaps they should bring back the momentum meter where you can build it up in your favour by making bit hits, blocking shots, steal the puck, create scoring chances…. The higher momentum would maybe give your guys a higher probability of scoring a goal or allow them to skate a little bit faster or hit harder……this would atleast give those who actually know how to play the game an advantage……just like in real life, the momentum often swings back and forth throughout the game, the key would be to keep it in your favour the majority of the time.

Eashl practice mode and coaching/review mode. A practice mode like others have said would be sweet.  But I’d like to take it further with a  game review mode.  As an example, after a game, me and my team could go over the replay of the entire game and talk about it ….perhaps have a button you can press during the gameplay so if I or a teammate notices something about a good or bad play that just happened , press it, then it would queue that spot up so it’s easy to find in “review mode”….often I’ll notice something me or my teammates are doing whether it be good or bad, but we don’t have time to talk about it and analyze it since we have a game to play…and by the end of the game I might’ve forgot about it….i think this would be really cool and really help make the eashl that much better….i don’t think this would be too hard to implement since we can already do replays .....except now we would be able to watch them all together and talk about it in party chat mode.

OTP community…I wish that when you entered a room it had all the positions listed at the first screen so you can see what is available…this would get rid of the problem where people quit if they don’t get the position they were hoping for…that drives me nuts.

Speed burst….i can’t figure out why this was ever taken out of the game….i don’t know anybody who ever plays a sport going at the same speed the whole time…please bring it back…like in previous versions where you had a meter, so you had to be smart about it so you didn’t use it up all at once or your player would be dead tired.

Maybe have some cool celebrations for after scoring a goal

Make it so players who get crushed by a bit hit don’t get up off the ice right away…..also, if you block a big shot in the legs or any other part of the body, it’s stupid how it doesn’t even affect the player and they can just skate away with the puck…they should atleast be stunned for a bit

Defencemen should do a better job at keeping the puck in the zone when it comes flying around the boards…maybe they should be able to grab it out of the air occasionally.

  • lukasz1980 said May 11, 2009

I had a question if you guys were going to implement something like in fifa10 where you can buy decks of cards and build ur own team I think this would be a great addition thanks for making the best hockey game ever

  • Irish916 said May 12, 2009

I guess I'm late to the party. Where can I see this blog report? Do I have to be logged into EA live? I'd love to hear what David says in the second installment.

For me, there are only two things that need to be resolved in order for me to buy NHL 10 on the 360.

First one is that I MUST have the ability to play co-op with a human against the computer AI.  "Invite a friend" funcationality needs to be restored.

Second, I want a more responsive AI. An AI that checks back, responds to hits by hitting back or starting fights.  Chipppy play that captures the true eb/flow of a real hockey game.

  • Rannd said May 12, 2009

    -ECHL Teams!!  Pllleeassee!

-Hats thrown onto ice for hat tricks

    -Arenas more authentic

-Goal songs correct for each team (i.e. Columbus Blue Jackets have a cannon when a goal is made) and they play the song "We Salute you"

  • thamiks said May 12, 2009

    - fans and arenas, basically the atmosphere of the game. Not all fans wear jerseys to the game and fans don't just stand up and sit and clap randomly 24/7

    - you should be able to spread your legs to avoid offsides (pull left on the left analog and right on the right analog)

    - make puck control real difficult to allow forechecking to happen more and not so much easy outs.

  • CyanideMlkShake said May 13, 2009

geting rid of always goals is very good but dont want to see always saves either or having the goalie be super robots like the start of 09

player styles too, like for instance im from michigan and about 98% of the time play as the red wings n would like to see homlstrom in front of the oposition net more o.O and im not just saying this for just detroit players, all players around the leage have tendancys

fix interferance i hate seeing my guy checked to the ice who isnt even by the puck

fights that happen should show the 2 players exactly where they started the fight and team mates need to be shown on the ice inc refs but not is sum cheasy order where there always standing for every fight or sumthing, have players skate from where there at on the ice n maybe hold back the oposition

need a beter way to jam rebounds home, seems liek most the time the puck is lose the goalie finds it n covers it up wich is fine but id like to be able to get a rebound or 2 everyonce in a while when its in the blue paint

alost remeber that they made the rule where if u take a penalty the face off happens in your zone, i know it was proly hard to add that into 09 but id like to see that added to the game

def think the fans should be more intense

other than that i think ea will do a good job this year specialy scince by just reading a few of other ppls comments theres some realy good ideas from us fans n i know ea has and will be looking at that to give us a much more authentic game n even though there are alot of things that need to be fixed i havnt ben disapointed with the nhl games they have released yet so keep up the good work : )

oh p.s put in detroit n chicagos winter classic jerserys pls!

  • CyanideMlkShake said May 13, 2009

aslo forgot... let us pick more of our shoot out line up cuz iv seen chelios on the ice b4 filpula or half the forwards for that matter ...dont think it would be tomuch work to be able to preset the whole team?

  • ShowerCap said May 14, 2009

You should really be able to use the right analogue stick to move the players stick WHILE SKATING like in real life. As it is now the player stops skating and just slides on the ice, not very realistic.

Hopefully you'll improve the AI too. When I play with a mate as fixed positions the AI never scores a single goal. For some reason they're very rubbish in your own team when you play on fixed position.

Great job though and I love that EA finally opens up like this.

  • ShAdY0008 said May 19, 2009

wow this nhl is gonna be the best to date..

but they should add more then 3 player trades, not just the years draft picks but up to three years so instead of me tradin some guy and 2010 first rounder i can trade some guy and a 2012 second rounder unno wat i mean..also they should add the first and second round draft picks so we dont have to create john tavares and matt duchane there already there..madden does it why not NHL??..thats all i can think of at the moment cuz everyone and you's guys already said everything so if you guys can do all of that and wat everyone else was saying i think we got, not just the best NHL game ever made but one of the BEST games out there.

but yea these video updates are amazing Dave i hope u and your team keep up the great work i love u guys im 18 years old. ive played every year of hockey from 93 on. from sega to 360 lol..u guys are amazing and the best video game developers in the world (in my mind). so yea keep up the great work Dave, Sean, and Andy you guys are great and deserve alot more than wat ppl say on these boards.

    Matt

  • ShAdY0008 said May 20, 2009

one more thing..when theres roster uploads dont just make it NHL/AHL..make it also National, Eliteserien, Sm-Liiga, DEL, Czech, and Russian leagues cuz im a huge roster freak everything needs to be to date.. ohh and i know this has nothing to do with the game but make Sidney Crosby this years cover athlete..like 09-Dion Phaneuf, 08-Eric Staal.. dont get me wrong there fantastic players but are you serious they got the cover before crosby ??

oh ya P.S. NHL 94 was my fav as a kid lol

  • JNJDevils said May 20, 2009

First I just want to say the EA team does an excellent job every year.  The custom audio feature in 09 was my favorite feature in any game I have ever played with that and the new features concerning the crown in NHL 10 you can really get the right atmosphere while playing Ok on to the 2 main improvments id love to see this year.  But first PLEASE PUT ZACH PARISE ON THE BOX COVER!!!! He is probably the hardest working player in the NHL he deserves the recognition.

    1. PLEASE!!!!!!! Get Mike "Doc" Emrick to do the commentating the partner doesnt matter just as long as Doc is the commentator.  He does all the big games the winter classic nationally televised games the all-star game and not to mention the playoffs and Stanley Cup finals.  He took Gary Thornes place in real life som why not in NHL 10 He is also a HALL OF FAMER!

2.Minor detail and easy fix when a goal is scored the 5 players on the ice should celebrate together with a hug and pats on the head hockey is a team game in the real NHL not just the players who got points being the goal scorer and one or two guys who got assists are the only ones who celebrate.  And for big goals like game tying goals late in the game have the players jump on each other and have it look like it was a huge goal.   Mainly though have all the players on the ice except the goalie congratulating the goal scorer im sure the crowd is already fixed to cheer alot louder when a goal is scored.  Thank you very much for your time and hope to see these improvements added.

  • mihaeagle3 said May 22, 2009

One of the major things I would like to see added in NHL10, or even NHL11 is more control over my pro in Be A Pro mode...Another words, you should be able to pick which skill you want to practice on (kinda like how it is done with how you train the pros in dynasty mode, except an on ice practice, not just an assignment) and you would have to hit the ice and have a good practice to earn the points to raise your skill level.  I.E. to get your shooting skills up, you could practice shooting at a goalie in the slot, or shoot at targets...to up your stick handling, or speed and skating skills, you should have to do an obstacle course....

A second way to improve this would be by choosing how you prepare on a game day....rest for a certain amount of time, eat a certain meal at a certain time....what and how much fluid you drink....This would give you more personal control and make you feel like you make similar decisions to real Professional players.

Another opinion I have is to incorporate morale into Be A Pro mode.  In real life, if we have a bad game or our team goes on a losing streak, especially on multiple games on the road, team (or individual) morale could drop. This plays a big part in how we take the next few games.  You could boost morale by a big win over a strong opponent, or winning a fight, or just getting fans riled up at home...(or maybe you could put the cash your agent nets you to good use and buy a new car or something....which might be a little ridiculous, but hey just a thought :D)

seriously control the cross crease pass one timers where the goalie watches it go right across his crease and does nothing only to have the receiving player receive a pass perfectly and slam it into the net EVERYTIME. but im not here to complain about gameplay like every person. your sick and tired of it and quite frankly so am i.

im here to tell you that you need to incorporate FANTASY DRAFTS into dynasty and allow 1-4 users for the dynasty so that you could have 4 users drafting for 4 teams in a fantasy draft of 30 before their season begins. this allows for competition among the users and adds an element to the ea nhl series that hasnt been around since maybe 2001 or 2000? correct me if im wrong plz.

every year ive bought 2k and ea and only used 2k for the reason above. well make it an easier decision for me and put fantasy drafts in. makes the game more exciting too having a player who wouldnt normally play for a team on their with maybe another player you love. just a thought

oh and sorry cant believe i forgot this but allow for skating while dekeing. find me an nhl player that doesnt skate when he dekes... you wonna add some more realistic gameplay tahts a good step right htere. the danglers in the nhl are danglers because they can utilize speed while performing good dekes at that speed. not deking in a phone booth even though ur not getting anywhere cause you cant move your feet.

thanks again keep up the great work on the game. no doubt youll blow us outta the water.

Call EVERY penalty in the book.  Maybe get Bob Miller and Jim Fox for new Play-By Play guys, I dont CARE if nhl10 will take up THREE DVDs instead of one! I don't think most of us care about that either.  Give the announcers a LOT more lines!  Dynasty mode gets boring hearing the same 2 or 3 comments on each player.

ALSO!  Most important, add a DICTIONARY of names, so the announcers Won't HAVE to cll My Kid "Freight Train"  There's a Jesus, but NOT a Milt!  Milt Schmidt was a Hall of Fame player for the Boston Bruins. Also, add a Create-a COACH option!  Give more hairstyles and colors when we create a player 'etc  I have played since NHL98  Using a Keyboard or mouse.  I don't have the manual Dexterity to use a gamepad.  Last season in Dynasty mode My KID scored 200 points in medium diff. but some Nikolay Kusminski got the pearson.  The game has the pearson mixed up with the Hart trophy after the first 3 seasons.  And, Jack Johnson and Bobby Ryan NOT being called by their names...  '09's player name list for created players has names that NEVER see the light of day in the NHL! But a lot of player names of REAL nhl players were left out.  PLEASE keep on making a PC version of the series.

Have a draft day in the game for bap mode

  • Warrior04 said June 16, 2009

i think that you should make the acctually goalie helmets like vesa toskala's skull or kippers new flames one, so you can see whos in net not just all the same boring helmets

  • Warrior04 said June 16, 2009

Also make song arena's harder to play in and louder crowds then others, like in the playoffs and also lively boards in detroit, and when there are big saves or hits it changes the momentum in the game.

  • Warrior04 said June 16, 2009

There should be patches for playoffs, different helmets like teemu selanne, also get the AI defence to pinch on a rush to make it 4 on 2, little things like that

  • Datsyuks-a-boss said June 20, 2009

i think all these are great fixes but what i would really like to see is

    1) broken sticks on slashes and shots and things like that, i would really like to see that in NHL 10

    2) more phrases and things for the anouncers

    3) better and more dekes would be nice

    4) have a draft day for be a pro mode

    5) have controversial goals reviewed

    6) all guys on the ice celebrate a goal

    7) i think having the olympics would also be cool, say that your guy in be a pro mode does good in the season, then he should be able to play for his national team

    8) award ceremonies and raising the banners

    9) more customizing for be a pro

i think that all this would be really sweet for NHL 10 or 11, thanks guys for making the best hockey games ever!!!

  • Datsyuks-a-boss said June 20, 2009

i would also like to maybe see some like trash talking in the game so the players get ticked at each other and get chippy and will end up fighting later in the game, i think that would be cool

  • Datsyuks-a-boss said June 21, 2009

i also think that it would be really cool like in be a pro mode to have skill competitions, for what your guy is really good at

  • Senatorss_19 said July 17, 2009

Very good but me and some of my friends have thought of some new ideas to make the game much more intense... Something that would be so amazing would probably be in be a pro where you can have the choice to do the warm ups before the game, perhaps either dry land training with the team and just taking shots and doing little drills before the game has started. Honestley that would be a really good idea. And well sometimes when its a breakaway on the goalie the player will get tripped. And that would be pretty cool to see the goalie get hit and the net is off its wearings. Another thing is that when you hit a player from behind it shouldn't be a 2 minute minor or a 5 minute major. The player shall be executed from the game and possibly a suspention for a couple of games. And another thing is maybe a little trash talk on the ice. And even getting penalty's for complaining to the referee. Also for the nhl 08 there was fantasy drafts for a dynasty mode, and in nhl 09 they took it out. It should be braught back in to the game. And i don't know if this is too violent but when the players get either a stick to the face ect. the player who hit him should get a five minute major cause the victim drew blood like in the real league of nhl. Also another thing is there should be a skills competition for the be a pro mode to show your players skills. Also maybe in be a pro, you'll see the player get dressed for the game and be inside the dressing room, and even get negative attitude from the coach. And also while making a change on the fly the team can get a penalty for having to many players on the ice.  Okay last but not least i think nhl 09 should maybe have some bloopers every once in a while were the players skate is untied and he falls or the player hits his own teammate. Just to add some comedy to the game, thanks.

  • Senatorss_19 said July 17, 2009

Another thing is maybe see the practice going on like not just do 2 on 1's or breakout. in be a pro the whole team should be on the ice at all times and see the coaches show them drills.

  • Senatorss_19 said July 17, 2009

(((Very good idea by ''mihaeagle3''))) Another opinion I have is to incorporate morale into Be A Pro mode.

  • Senatorss_19 said July 18, 2009

K some more things other people thought of are maybe see the players have a little jump to there play instead of just lightly turning around. Oh and the shots, make the bullets they go to slow, even when you turn the shot power full they are still slow. And every team should have there own intro or like smoke coming out of the board entry. And outros, make them interact with the crowd or do different things, its always the same old yay! we are done lets go. And add some pump up music like raise a little hell or who let the dogs out, i don't  know put some good pump up songs in between the whistles.

  • Senatorss_19 said July 18, 2009

Littman this also needs the ohl league.

  • Senatorss_19 said July 18, 2009

Oh and the hits, when there's those cross ice hits the throw two hands when they hit, make them use there shoulder only for all those kinds of hits like real hockey.

  • nhl-freakk said July 19, 2009

I think the game should have more noises. Like when your in the corner fighting for the puck you should be able to hear the sticks slashing eachothers sticks. Or when you take a slap shot you should be able to hear the stick slap that puck. Another thing, is the nets. Sometimes when its a nice low shot you can hear it hit the netting. And every time there is a huge hit or a goal at an important time in a game the crowd should made louder noise.

  • nhl-freakk said July 19, 2009

And another thing is each team should have a different arena. Like from smoke coming out of the entry or popcorn/hotdog guys. And maybe an award seremony for be a pro and dynasty. Speeking of dynasty mode i really missed the fantasy draft in there. Also i find all the goalies should have there real equipment and helmets, And see the players get dressed before the game and get their pep talk from the coaches. And give the players harder shots! Like little peewees shoot harder than the shots in the game, Make them fly like cannons man. And make there be lots of tip ins and like i said hear the sound of the sticks. Oh and the sticks should break once in a while. I know so much people that thought of that too.

  • nhl-freakk said July 19, 2009

And in be a pro we should have to sign an agent. Or have the choice to have a draft witch a team picks you to go on their team to make it more realistic.

  • RLR said July 27, 2009

Where the hell is my version of NHL for the Wii (yah yah its not as good as the other systems, I know but FIF 09 was made along with every other sport almost) just Gamecube control it its like you're leaving many fans out in the cold without a blanket, and someone just threw a glass bottle at my head from a passing car.  Please stop and give me a ride to the hospital.  Just make the game already its been long enough with this joke . Giddy up already!! Thanks

  • nhl-freakk said July 31, 2009

I looked at some trailers for this game and this game needs more different types of hits. Like at least 10 different new hits. And the crowd should cheer louder after a big hit or important goal

  • nhl-freakk said July 31, 2009

Oh and i forget add some dekes, Like make the player be skating while hes deking instead of that same dekes when they arnt skating at the same time, like keep them but add some were you can be skating and deking at the same time

    Thanks :)

  • h0ckey19 said August 01, 2009

Hello, I am so exited for the game to come out, but here are some things me and some people thought would have really good affect on the game. First of all the players should have a jump to their play, like when they receive takes them a bit to turn. They should always be alert and moving. Also oh my god this game needs different hits. Like nhl-freak said keep the old hits too but just add some new ones to make the game more realistic instead of having the same hits all the time. And the hit were the player falls back on his knees is pretty stupid, honestly how many times do you see a player fall back like that.

  • ty4696 said August 25, 2009

What i would like to see is to customize equipment like gloves, sticks. why i would like to see this feature is because its the players features that you guys should notice more. for example: when you guys watched the penguins this year they had new gloves, with black and gold.so really i would like to see that you can customize gloves, etc.
