NCAA Football 10: Season Showdown

Posted On: May. 14, 2009 7:44 AM EST By: raczilla 159 Comments

Hey Everyone, by now most of you have started to hear some details about Season Showdown, and some of you got uncomfortably close with me as I talked with Pasta Padre and cdj about Season Showdown couple of weeks ago. This week’s blog will focus on the format of Season Showdown, and in the coming weeks we will go in-depth on the Skills, Strategy, and Sportsmanship components that make up a lot of what Season Showdown is all about.

Before I dig into the feature I wanted to mention that the seasonshowdown.easports.com site will not go live until we launch on July 14th.  If you try to access the site before then you will just get redirected until the site is live.

Selecting your school

First let’s layout what Season Showdown is all about. This is a competition combining all Xbox 360, PS3, and EA Sports World members to put their school pride on the line to try and prove their school is the best. All you need to do is select the school you want to represent, and from that point forward every game you play will help your school’s cause. Your school selection is permanent, so make sure you’re picking the right school or else you might find yourself repping Miami of Ohio instead of “Da U”.

Schedule Format and Phases

Since there is a little over a month between NCAA Football 10 hitting the shelves and the start of the college football season we will treat that time as the Season Showdown pre-season. During this time you will be able to earn credits for your school by playing any game vs. the CPU or vs. an online opponent. We will track the number of credits each person has earned individually as well as how many credits each school has earned. Your goal is to try and get your school at the top of the leaderboard by August 31st, which is the start of our regular season. In addition to playing the game, you will also be able to earn credits by logging into seasonshowdown.easports.com and playing the NCAA Trivia Challenge. The credits you earn for showing off your college football knowledge will be added to your school’s total as well as your own personal credit count. Since the trivia game is completely handled on the web, you don’t even need to own the game to play trivia and help your school.

The reason you want to get your school at the top of the leaderboard is so you can make your school’s path to the championship as easy as possible. Since Season Showdown replicates the real world season, we will have our own weekly polls based on the outcome of the Season Showdown games. The initial poll rankings for week 1 of the regular season will be where each school finished on the leaderboard at the end of the pre-season.

Once the regular season begins, each matchup will last the entire week, and your school’s opponent will be the same as their real world opponent. So in week one Bama fans will be squaring off with Virginia Tech fans and Cal fans won’t have to wait all week for their chance to get some revenge over Maryland.  Every week of the season you will have a new opponent, and a new poll will be released every Monday letting you know where your school stands in the overall competition. Once we hit the first week in December its conference championship time. This is the first time we will part ways from the real life season. The schools that will be battling it out for their conference titles are the schools that win their divisions in the Season Showdown regular season. So while the real world SEC championship game might be UF vs. LSU, if Ole Miss fans and Kentucky fans fight hard enough, they will be playing for the SEC title in Season Showdown. And if you didn’t finish #1 or #2 in the final rankings of the season don’t sweat it, cause the top 32 schools will be placed into a single elimination tournament to crown the Season Showdown champion. Each round of the tournament will last one week, just like the match-ups during the regular season, and the Season Showdown Championship week will be played out the same week as the real world National Championship game.

Once the champion has been declared, we return to the pre-season format where you will battle for leaderboard positioning.

How does a school win their match-up?

Since the Season Showdown isn’t about the school with the most members or earns the most total credits for the week automatically wins, you will need to divide your credit earning into five categories. You can view the progress of each matchup by selecting the game from the schedules screen. Here you will see the match in progress screen, that shows each of the 5 categories, and who is leading. For the vs. Showdown Opponent category, we don’t show who is leading until the week is over, since this is the one instance where if you know you are in the lead for the category, you can guarantee your  school wins the category by no longer playing any Showdown games for that week. The school that takes three of those categories gets the win for the week. These categories are:

Games vs. CPU – anytime you play a CPU opponent the credits earned from that game will count towards this category.

Games vs. your Showdown Opponent – This category is all about taking on someone that represents your school’s opponent for that week. So if it’s week 1 of the season, LSU and Washington fans will play against each other in an online game; and the credits won during those games count towards this category. There are a few ways to find a Showdown Opponent, you can search for one from the schedules screen, head to your match-ups lobby room, or take a look at someone’s Season Showdown ID card which is displayed in the top right corner of the screen whenever a player’s online info is displayed on the screen. Here you will be able to see which school they represent, how long they have been a member, their total credits earned, and their skills, sportsmanship, and strategy levels. By taking a look at these levels you can get an indication as to what type of player the opponent is before heading into a game with them. If their Skills level is off the charts, then expect that person to be a gameplay master, if they have a lot of total credits but their Sportsmanship level is low you can probably figure that their punter hasn’t seen much action.

Games Online vs. the Nation – These are games played online against anyone that is not representing your current showdown opponent school. So using the example above, if an LSU fan takes on someone representing Ohio State in week 1 of the season, the credits earned will be awarded to this category.

NCAA Trivia Challenge – Just like the pre-season you will be able to earn credits for your school by showing your college football knowledge. In addition to historical questions, we will also be adding questions during the year about the current college football season. Only your top score for the week will count, and your goal will be to finish in the top 50 for your school that week. At the end of the week we add up all of the credits earned and declare the winner for the category. If you are outside of the top 50 your credits will still count for your individual score, they just won’t be added to the team score for the week. The trivia challenge will be accessible from seasonshowdown.easports.com, and as stated above, can be played even if you don’t own the game.

Allies & Rivals – this category is 100% decided by your votes. Every day of the week everyone that logs into Allies & Rivals will have 5 votes to use however they want. At the end of the week the votes are tallied and whichever school in the match-up has the most votes takes the category. We track and display which school are your allies (who’s been voting for you to win) and your rivals (who always wants to see you lose). It’s up to you how you spend your votes each day, If you are an FSU fan it’s a pretty safe bet that one vote will go to FSU (you want to win right?), and one vote will go towards whoever is playing Miami and Florida that week, and with the other two votes, you can either try to help take down the top ranked school, or help an ally defeat their opponent. Once we hit tournament time, even if your school is out of it, you will still be able to have a say in who wins, as your votes will count towards who wins this category. Just like the Trivia Challenge, Allies & Rivals is accessible from seasonshowdown.easports.com and can be played even if you don’t own the game.

How do I earn credits during a game?

There are a number of ways you can earn credits by playing the game. With Season Showdown, how you play the game is as important as winning the game. No matter if you win or lose, you will still earn credits just for participating, however you will be able to earn extra credits in a number of categories (Skills, Strategy, Sportsmanship, Loyalty, Underdog, and ESPN Instant Classics).

We will go into great detail in the coming weeks about Skills, Strategy, and Sportsmanship, so for this blog I’ll focus more on the other extra credit categories.

Loyalty – When you are choosing a school to represent, all credits you earn go towards that school, but that doesn’t mean you have to use that school in every game you play, you will still earn credits for Notre Dame even if you wanted to start a dynasty with Kent State. However, when you do play with the school you represent, you will earn an additional loyalty bonus.

Underdog – Without fail, whenever you go online you find that a majority of the people use the same top ranked teams whenever they play, instead of sinking to their level, take a lower ranked team and beat them to earn Underdog credits. The larger the gap between schools the more credits you will earn.

ESPN Instant Classics – If the game you have just completed is considered an ESPN Instant Classic you will receive credits for playing a thrilling game.
Quit Penalty – one of the goals with Season Showdown is to improve the quality of play online, and there are few things worse than an opponent that quits on you. With Season Showdown, you will actually earn credits for ending a game early the right way (by granting mercy, conceding defeat, etc.) that you don’t need to just pull your connection anymore. If you do, you will get docked 50% of your total credits earned the next time you play an online game.

Following along with Season Showdown

On the console as well as on the web you will be able to follow all of the Season Showdown action. There will be daily audio podcasts hosted by the Thompson Brothers that fire off automatically when you enter the Season Showdown feature in-game as well as weekly video podcasts that will wrap up the last week’s action and get you ready for the big match-ups ahead. Every Monday the latest polls will be released that ranks all 120 schools based on their season showdown performance, conference standings, credit history for that tracks the credits earned in each category for each player as well as each school, and leaderboards that allow you to see which player and which school are the best at any category.

There’s a lot that went into the creation of Season Showdown, and a lot to discuss here. Please feel free to post your questions about the feature in the comments.

Will anyone use this? These numbers mean nothing. Even if they did, they seem very random. A percentage of some sort would be better.

  • BenSchoolYard said May 14, 2009

It looks like in the video that they fixed the ball size. It was waay to big the previous games.

  • Primal23 said May 14, 2009

This is another retarded EA add on that no one wants to play.  Everyone I know wants great online play with no glitches and online slowness.  Put something in it that my friends and I would play, like make online franchise better, game play better or add a feature like a online tournament.  This is another feature that was just wasted resources that could of been used on something that the majority of people want.

Features like this just continue the EA fluff PR each year that does nothing to improve what people really want.  Guarantee the community did not ask for this feature and yet they put this stupid thing in....???

  • stagerunner said May 14, 2009

I will play online but could care less about the Coke Zero Season Showdown.  Come on EA.  You should have put out a beta tester like every other game.  Then you get feedback from more than just 10 people.  I agree this add on is useless unless it leads to some kind of Playstation 3 national tournement field like the XBox 360 has.  Oh btw when does that contract end and when is EA switching to the real gaming platform.  Please remove and give us the rest of the NCAA teams on the disk.

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said May 14, 2009

I dont know what this is...but it seems like too much. Im not bashing it, but I honestly wouldnt keep up with it on a consistent basis. There may be guys who want t odo this, but idk many do. Everything nowadays is either friends over, lets play some exhibition games; dynasty with roommate, dynasty by self, or online play.

  • AUBURN_TIGERS_09 said May 14, 2009

At first glance it looks pretty cool and then the second time i ready my mind swiftly changed... I dont think EA relizes how many people are going to use Florida making the whole thing stupid. I f they would have made this an individual battle between people and the people with the best records battled it out in a 32 team tournament that would be awesome. But no they do something like this where if i pick lets say some one like vandy and go 100-0 individualy and there up against Florida that week there is no chance in hell vandy will when... Or if i want a head to head battles that week and i play florida i will lose without a doubt... make it indivdual and it would have a lot more fans...

  • MegaBearsFan said May 14, 2009

One thing that looks appealing about this "feature" is the inclusion of cross-platform compatibility, as the points earned on Xbox360, PS3 and on the internet are all combined into one pool.  Personally, I would much rather see cross-platform online games and dynasties so I can play on my PS3 with my pals on Xbox (since nobody owns a PS3).  But who knows, maybe this and the Create-a-Team feature are first steps towards unifying the various game platforms.  So maybe in a year or two, cross-platform online play will be a reality ...

  • Jazz Trance said May 14, 2009

I have to agree here...why do we need this mode? Sure, it's a cool concept, but the vast majority of NCAA players don't play the game for stuff like this. They play for Dynasty and Superstar/Campus Legend. It's like the mascot game - no one cares about it.

I guess what I'm saying is, I can't get excited about this mode, and I've been playing NCAA since it was Bill Walsh College Football. The game on the field shoudl be buttoned up before anything like this is added. Give us actual penalties, working challenges, all the stuff we see on Saturdays, and a deeper presentation with a highlight show. Don't waste time on a glorified feedback system for what teams people use and how they play.

  • xROMO_9xwinz said May 14, 2009

"For you peeps out there's Info" He said Pick your favorite team that you are a Die hard fan of {exp:}(Texas)and start playing games on or offline pick any team and play , "your school" that "you support" will get the points no matter who you play with even if you play with Florida but if you play with a team other than your TEAM! You won't earn as many points.

You guys want way to much stuff and find something wrong with everything ..Get over play the game and have fun with your friends if you have any..

Thanks EA this looks like a nice add on and I looking forward to supporting MY TEAM everytime I play a game..

    Thanks

this seems pretty useless... i really couldnt care any less about having a fan competition to see which team has the most fans that plays this game...i find it really hard to understand why EA gave us this instead of 1AA teams. and giving us the logos and saying creat the teams yourself is a slap in the face EA...i dotn get paid to creat 100+ teams... the gameplay better be great this year.. and hopefully the computer will actually be achallenge on heisman this year, bc i havent had a close game with any computer team since i got the game... no matter how good they were...

  • DontTry2Hard said May 14, 2009

fluff. so much fluff. this feature will likely be this year's mascot game. but, of course, there'll be an achievement for doing this i'm sure, so EA will feel like people actually use it.

I love NCAA and will still buy the game, but not for this.

  • pharaoh_00 said May 14, 2009

This is fluff no one will care about this at all wow EA sucks!

  • JCash624 said May 14, 2009

no offense, its a cool idea but i hope they didnt put too much time into this because this is a feature i will probably glance at once or twice just to see how its going. coulda spent more time on dynasty features or campus legend, which definitely needs some touching up

  • icebluestare said May 15, 2009

All i want is the ps3 version to work properly. The last two years EA has really screwed the ps3 users, last year it was the stupid replay and the year before that it was 30fps.So,with that being said please EA make the ps3 version playable and put the game in 1080p.

  • Hi TEq METHOD said May 15, 2009

I don't understand why EA keeps dishing out these gimmicky features. Atleast Madden is starting to come around and realize people want gameplay (once that's down work on the presentation) not these unnecessary features. All I'm saying is if the gameplay isn't better this year, and it better be a significant improvement if they have people working on stuff like this, it will just further solidify EA's stance that gameplay doesn't seem to matter. NHL '09 is very solid, Madden looks to be FINALLY getting better, Fight Night is always nice, so what's the deal with NCAA football? (that NCAA basketball game was terrible, leave it to 2k.)

    Season Showdown = Mascot Game.

  • iTz Peckin said May 15, 2009

The people who fidn this option to be fluff are not College Football fans. They are Top Ranked Cheese football fans. That want to play with the best teams in the nation and run around like idiots with Tim Tebow and throw first downs off their back up.

This is an absolutely awesome feature that I can't wait to get my hands on. As a HUGGGGGGGGEEEE Sooners fan, I will LOVE to play with OU with this feature. And I would love to ebat up on all the Florida Tebow Cheesers who think by using the best ranked team they are good. (Don't fool yourselves, you're not good at all)

So while you guys piss, moan, and complain about everything I will gladly play Season Showdown.

Thanks EA, for thinking about the REAL COLLEGE fans, that care about THEIR SCHOOL and not some 16 year old, sitting in mommys basement with their tighty whities and their sippy cups playing with a reckless abandonment.

  • Primal23 said May 15, 2009

iTz Peckin of course your a huge fan of it, your a sooner fan which guarantees your team to be a 99 overall.  The only people that are going to like this feature are those people that have teams rated very high in the game.  I'm a huge Wisconsin fan, but I know its going to worthless with this feature cause the Badgers are at best going to be like an 85 overall.  No shot playing with them if I have to play a 99 overall Pennstate, or the other 99 overall teams like Florida or Texas.  This feature is only great for the few teams and fans that have teams highly rated. For the other 110 or so teams its a completely worthless feature.

  • Hi TEq METHOD said May 15, 2009

    @ iTz Peckin

First of all I'm A fan of "Da U".

Second of all how does someone's opinion of this feature correlate to their age or whether or not they are "real" college football fans?

A real college football fan wants to enjoy real college football, which lies within the gameplay, presentation and overall atmosphere. You iTz Peckin like gimmicks, and seem to just be mad Florida beat you.You were probably also drunk when you posted that comment because none of your points make sense.

  • B Diddy said May 15, 2009

Very good post.   Looking forward to picking up NCAA this year.  Been away from it for a couple years, and this looks compelling.  Thanks for the information.

  • The_OriginalMrE said May 15, 2009

I am so upset about this feature that for the first time ever, I have logged in to actually comment.

EA, I have bought your games for YEARS. I have given you so much of my money over the past decade +, and for the first time I am starting to doubt you guys. I really feel let down.

I spent the last year excited for the work you guys were going to do on NCAA 10. I have seen ideas thrown around from Medical Red Shirts, to Spring Games, to Spectator modes on Online dynasty (How many times have people been wishing they could watch some friends battle out a huge conference game on Online Dynasty???), to maybe even some sort of Athletic Director Mode...and yet you give us Season Showdown??? I can’t even begin to describe the level of my irritation.

Perhaps I wasn’t paying much attention, but maybe I missed where the fans of the NCAA series were clamoring for this mode to be included...

The way the economy is right now, people aren’t going to open their wallets up for a game that comes out yearly unless they get the features and updates they have been asking for. It seems like a sound business decision on EA's part would be to spend their time working on features that will SELL the game. I just don’t see people saying, "Oh my God, season show down!?!?!? A giant popularity contest on my Console?!?! I can’t wait for this!"

I know that people at EA put a lot of hard work into this, and criticism of their project can be difficult, but why for the love of God was this mode not axed in the pre development process?

I will still be buying NCAA 10, but I am very disappointed and my excitement for this game has never been this low. NCAA Football is the reason I have an Xbox. I sincerely hope this is the last time I am let down by you guys. Please listen to your paying customers, your fans, and the teenagers that can’t spell on here. We love our NCAA Football, but you are punishing us for our commitment to your product.

  • ennepetal94 said May 15, 2009

Some of y'all are funny! Eventually you'll realize the world doesn't revolve around you, nor do your thoughts and ideas necessarily reflect those of a significant percentage of anything.

I'll be interested in seeing if this is popular. It could appeal to a lot of people who haven't really been big online players in the past, which could improve the online experience for many.

Personally, I'm just hoping my school's stadium is finally in the game.

  • xROMO_9xwinz said May 15, 2009

Guys can't you see tjis is something that fans can do to support your team to let you know that you can effect how your team comes out on top.

It is still a ways off guys, they are not going into to full detail yet on game play, so get over it, and support your Team!!!  If you want to be the best go out and prove it to the world and the rest of the NCAA Footbal world.

Team Builder,Season Showdown will be very kool ..You guys forget they fixed the line play problems the coverage problems with ball traking tech..You guys just want to complain..

Oh "iTz Peckin" (Go Longhorns!!) You on PS3 look me up xRomo_9xwinz. "We can get our Showdown on"!

  • timberwuf said May 15, 2009

Primal, after reading this blog and your post I absolutely 110% couldn't agree more. EA has been adding junk to the game for far too long. EA says they created these forums to know what the fans want, but I don't recall reading n e where that anyone wanted this season showdown crap. I do remember reading tons of posts about formation subs and create a playbook but still haven't seen any developers touch on that yet. I might have to boycott ncaa football for the first time since its creation. Madden has been going up..... and NCAA has been going sideways. Its time that EA puts everything that the fans want in the game. Not some crap like season showdown and the wonderfully bad mascot challenge.

  • timberwuf said May 15, 2009

Romo, you're foolish, for lack of a better term. We're not asking for too much. We're asking for equivalent gameplay and features like madden has nowadays. How is that too much? Some of us have been die hard fans since the conception of the game. We demand more because we know its possible for the ideas we have because we've either seen them before in the game (create-a-playbook and formation subs) or they're being used in madden. I believe madden and ncaa should be about the same when it comes to gameplay.... like it used to be.

  • timberwuf said May 15, 2009

ARE YOU LISTENING EA?? I'VE READ 1 GOOD COMMENT ABOUT THIS. GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. LISTEN TO YOUR FANS.

  • MooseNamedChaz said May 15, 2009

bring this out in section 2 so we english can play it!!!!!

although that is a crappy idea

  • dks151023 said May 15, 2009

not a very good idea, how about working on game play instead

  • chadmelton said May 15, 2009

why, why, why, why, why?????????!!!!!!!!!  i dont know if i will continue to  spend my money on a game that keeps letting me down.  just fix the gameplay and improve the graphics.  all ea is doing is wasting precious memory on crap no one cares about.  i think its time for ea's contract to run out on the football titles so some other company can do it up right.  im so fed up!  its like they are catering to 10 year olds.

  • IRON BrAwLeR said May 15, 2009

gee ben, i never would have thought.  Really it is totally surprising to me.  Florida State is your alma mater?  The most highly overrated team in last years game and the only team with anything close to a 99 defense and 92 offense is your alma mater?  Thats really strange, i never would have guessed.  Really unbiased down there at tiburon aren't you...

this game will continue to get blown out by madden if this horsecrap is continued

  • IRON BrAwLeR said May 15, 2009

and i meant the only unranked team close to those stats

another thing...perfecting the flexbone? have you ever watched a frickin georgia tech game??? honestly.  When they run in their pre-snap motion their hips stay squared to the line of scrimmage and they run in a straight line to the point they need to be at, not a big frickin loop.  God i could design a better game

  • GopherDuece said May 15, 2009

I don't know about other 09-10 titles, but they did this with FIFA 09, and it seemed to catch on. I'm not saying that anyone shouldn't complain, because to me, even though I've tried the FIFA version, the details seem confusing. I think that once the game is released that this showdown thing will begin to sink in and many of us will like it.

  • razcalking1978 said May 15, 2009

Useless feature. As most have said, a popularity contest and nothing more. Could have done the same with a weekly poll.

And it will do absoluetly nothing to improve the quality of online gameplay. If a person is the type to play cheeze, do you really think that they're the type to care if they cost their "team" some points? They're already selfish by nature.

  • kclark002@ec.rr.com said May 15, 2009

why are you all judging something you havnt even experienced yet?  i think this sounds just like something me and my buddies have been waiting on for years.  congrats ea!  one thing though...i think it would be awesome if you started every team out with the same attributes and let us build them to the powerhouse by playing games online.  if you dont do this everyone will pick the best teams and not their favorite teams.  i cant get wait to get my hands on this game.

p.s. i hope you also improved gameplay

  • kclark002@ec.rr.com said May 15, 2009

also, if you put every team on an even playing field,  you will have almost every team represented.  the NCAA doesnt consider all schools when it comes to BCS games...it would be awesome if all schools would get the chance to play in BCS games.  this way you wouldnt have 90% of the population with florida as there favorite team.  start all schools out in the mid 80's and let the country fight for their ReAL FAVORITE school to see who is the best.  this would be a dream come true.

  • NotHenry Porter said May 15, 2009

Let me pile on.  This is a worthless feature that is wasting labor and space on the disc.  Is it really that hard to improve the gameplay rather than these gimmicks?  For the first time in over a decade I probably won't purchase NCAA due to the lack of real features added to the game.  With the economy in the toilet your poor choices is really going to end up hurting your balance sheet as many make the same choice as me.  Think smarter next year, please.

  • usmfan45 said May 15, 2009

this is so retarded only a tenth of all the people want this the other ninety and me want better gameplay and graphics in that order these gimmicks  are why ea sucks a sack at college sports

  • xROMO_9xwinz said May 16, 2009

You guys tis tis tis If you only wait I bet the game play will have changed with what you and everyone wants.. Are you guys not getting any sleep being so grumpy on here..

I work in retail and yes I know the customer is who pays my check ..But my point is you guys are quick to judge like your perfect in everyway ..Give it a while before you pass sentance on the game you might have to eat your words and buy the game later..

2k sports stink  I have played them and compared them they suck on game play they tend to be better in presentation..But you guys will set there and say this is better and I could make a game better..go ahead make yr game..lol.. You guys are something else..keep writing I'm getting some good laughs..

Play to have fun it's not life and death!

I wouldn't say they picked this over improving gameplay - here is a link detailing the announced gameplay changes so far: www.ncaastrategies.com/.../showthread.php

This feature is like Battle of the Nations on FIFA 09 and it was pretty popular there.  It seems like an feature that will lead to people playing the game more often and more regularly throughout the CFB season.

Improve the online play period! They could also do something more to combat Cheezers and their fake brand of football. Anybody playing w/out their fav team is probably a cheezer. Go Canes!

  • kingky82 said May 16, 2009

I dont care how many new features come out on upcoming NCAA football games. All I care about and what I think most hardcore simgamers care about are TEAMBUILDER, and just the overall COLLEGE GAME AUTHENTICITY! EA, you guys can add features til your blue in the face, as long as the CROWD is responsive, and true to life, the players are able to be geared up and accessorized, and just overall capture the AUTHENTICITY of COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Maybe bring back the team entrances like you did in previous gen, and show footage of the crowd and coach. I loved it when a play would occur and you would show a shot of the coach clapping, or getting peeved. I also have to agree with some on the whole play builder thing. I just feel like a feature like that would really add much more to this game than Season showdown would....not saying season showdown will be bad, I just think play builder would capture much more interest and would be used more.

Like I said before, I dont care if theres a thousand new different features on the game, AS LONG AS THE TRUE COLLEGE ATMOSPHERE IS CAPTURED. I WANT TO FEEL LIKE IM IN DEATH VALLEY ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!! I WANT TO SEE PLAYERS WITH DREADS, TOWELS TUCKED INTO THERE PANTS, AND FLUTTERING IN THE WIND, AND SO ON AND SO FORTH. THAT STUFF SHOULD TAKE PRECEDENT, AND SHOULD NOT TAKE A BACK SEAT TO ANY OTHER FEATURE BESIDES TEAMBUILDER!

Besides that, Great Job EA SPORTS

  • PIMitch23 said May 16, 2009

This sounds like an ok idea, but nothing I'm huge on. I was wondering if you guys have worked on the speed of the game. Madden has for sure, and from what previews I've read it definitely has added to the realism. I hope that you guys at least have a slider or something in the game that keeps it from being too fast and unrealistic, as both NCAA and Madden were somewhat with the game speed in last years game. Allow for some more player customization.

romo it is dumb its a college football game not a popularity contest they could have added fcs schools instead of this or even a soundtrack for the game

  • xROMO_9xwinz said May 16, 2009

    usmfan45;

I'm all for better game play and They have team builder I think that will give you the option for you to make a fcs school .

I'm not sure who your team is {Southern Mississippi}=(just a guess) but maybe they will get to it, but how many actual fans out there of FSC schools is going to play online with there team not many (maybe more on dynasty now),but if they support there team then everytime they play with or without there team they still help there team to get reconized now

I have missed feelings about NCAA all together. This was/is the first year I was pumped about what would be added to improve upon last years version. Last year was the first year I played NCAA over Madden :-(. Madden was a great game, but once I got in to the online dynasty on NCAA 09 I was hooked. I just stopped playing the game here recently. I don't doubt that this year will be good, but there are things that I don't like that NCAA is doing to market their game. First off, the madden blogs are better, more detailed, and more revealing. To me it seems if NCAA is trying to hide the things they have added to the game or they just didn't add anything presentational worth mentioning. Madden has added so much detail to their game that it is ridiculus(which is good). Pro-tak looks amazing, but they have added refs, the chain gang, towels players can wear, hand warmers, team specific colored shoes, and much more. NCAA has revealed nothing except field goal net and goal post flags. Madden producers faithfully blog every Monday with new info of some sort, but NCAA is suppose to blog Thursday, but they blog on Friday most of the time. They aren't even excited about their game so why should we? I do think the Team builder will be successful, but the fact that you can edit attributes to your liking will make that not fun because everyone will have great players on their team. Season Showdown seems like it could be okay since you really don't have to do anything special to gain credits for your team. I understand that NCAA and Madden need to have their own niche, but they aren't even comparable from what I've seen. NCAA needs to compete against Madden for the best football title EA releases. Right now college is losing the battle to the pros. Sorry for the long post, but I had to vent. LOL!!!!!!

I think that this mode has potential to be fun.  If you are a fanatic and want to see your team high on the list, then yeah it will be cool.  Assuming people actually register the teams they like, and not just Florida.

However, that being said, my belief is that they should ave gotten the gameplay and presentation to where the PS2 09 version was before they start playing with new modes and what not.  I would think the top priority would be getting the presentation levels to previous levels before worrying about new modes.

  • THE HANDCUFFER said May 18, 2009

The push in the back needs to be addressed! And a spectator mode needs to be added so I can see my friends play instead of sitting in the chat hearing play by play commentating! Especially if I am waiting to play one of them, this would make the chat that more enjoyable. Rosters need to be updated like other sport games! The roster was nice last names instead of numbers i enjoyed that, but there was still so much more wrong with the game. I know its only a game but some people take this seriously! It's all about winning and competition!

  • z128198@hotmail.com said May 18, 2009

I hope they fix the qb scrambling around the pocket all day and throwing pin point passes while dropping 30 yards in the pocket make people sit in the pocket and throw like real qb's.  To add to online dynasty there should be an option to create new rivalries and assign trophies to them. Also im tired of people super siming the game when they're on defense in online dynasty give me the option to turn it off or have it were u can only sim when losing or winning by like 30.

  • Mugs23 said May 18, 2009

    First off, thank you for team builder, I can't wait.... BUT Instead of the Season Showdown feature, I would still like to see some of the simple, but yet detailed things added to the game;

    1. Put the 'eye black' feature back in.

    2. Add Towels.

    3. Bring back FCS teams.

    4. Be able to edit your 'custom stadium sounds' MLB the Show is a perfect example (great feture though)

    5. ON TEAMBUILDER, BE ABLE TO CREATE MORE THEN 2 PANT STYLES, PLEASE HAVE AT LEAST THREE.

Yeah the Baseball games had TERRIBLE rosters, but I always enjoyed it.

  • Tate-Smillie said May 19, 2009

Do Yall retards really think they aren't working on gameplay? Keep it up, EA. Last years game was not yall's greatest, no doubt, but I still enjoyed it. They're working on gameplay, they've released videos about it, but things like this, they need to put in a larger blog. So be patient and play the game with College Football passion. I'm 12 years old, but ask me to name any player on UGA, I'll do it.

The only things that I really, really want in this year's addition, is add the coaches back to the side-line. Also, if my starting QB is out there, has to scramble, and runs OOB, why am I running into some dude wearing Stafford's jersey on my team? The last thing is to add more things Corso, Herb, and them say, because I'd score a touchdown, get a 1st, or make a stop on D, THEY SAY THE SAME THING!!! Anyways, I am impressed with the way 10 is going so far. For all you retards that think they can make a better game, try it. I'd like to see that.

    Thanks EA

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 19, 2009

i think in dynasty mode there should be more top recruits in the nation that can play both sides ofthe ball because now days in high school kids play multiple positions for example ray lewis was a stud running back but miami recruited him to play LB

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 19, 2009

make the ATH recruits be able to actually play both sides of the ball

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 19, 2009

put the percy harvin florida facemask on ncaa 10 and make the visor actually fit on the revolution helmets because they look retarded and it looks like u guys didn't care that much about it ncaa 09

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 19, 2009

in dynasty also have us as recruiters look at tape of the recruits we want to bring in to evaluate them as prospects, that would be very awesome ea or u can let us go to 5 high school game a week to look at these kids play and see how they may fit into our scheme and how we could use them in our college.

i just want the total package ea i want to be like pete carroll, a massive recruiter everywhere in the country

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 19, 2009

Ea in dynasty mode i would like to see the spring game and it would be cool to see some of ur top freshman recruits enroll early and play in the spring game and have the crowd go crazy to see those kids play. For example in Michigan they had QB trouble down there and when Tate Forcier played in the spring game they were chanting his name because they are happy that they got a good QB now. this would add to the drama and excite u see in ncaa football today. Also another idea give the fans more presentation show the players running out on the field again and highlight all the impact players in the pre-game warm-ups like they did in the past. In the game after huge hits i want to see the crowd go nuts and the players on sideline and field go crazy especially in the big games for example this year in the national championship game FL VS OKL when Major Wright punishes Manuel Johnson i want to see the excitement like that. After a big game winning TD i want to see all the players cheering the scorer for example TEX vs TEX tech when michael Crabtree scored the gae winning TD everybody just went nuts the crowd and the players. After a bowl game win i want to see the players poring gatorade down the coaches back and all the drama EA.

  • BayouPerspective said May 19, 2009

for the Showdown, can we customize our own player attributes and stack our teams against the competition for online play.  In other words give all our players 99 speed, agility, etc. and still compete?  Just wondering.

    Geaux Tigers!

  • kingky82 said May 19, 2009

QUiiCkN3zZ, I def agree with the second half of your comment.

EA, I as well would love to see the home team run out onto the field while the crowd goes wild, then you hear the boos while the away team enters. Also would love to see the coaches make a reappearance this year. If you watch a college football game on tv what do they always show when a big play happens? The coaches and the crowd. Thats what Id love to see in the game this year, is a very intuitive, AUTHENTIC, reactive crowd, and show the crowd while they are hyped, and show the coach. Doing that is going to really vamp up this game. I want to feel the pageantry, the electrifying crowds....thats a HUUUUUUUUGE part of the college game. In my estimation it has fallen by the wayside the last several years. You guys would take a huge step forward with this years game if you could capture the true college atmosphere!! There is nothing more disappointing than to find a crease with your back and bust a long one off for a td, and to not have the crowd react until he crosses the goal line. Come on guys....I know you can do better than that. Bring stadium pulse back if you have to.

More gear. Not a lot, but just a tad more player customization. Towels, tats, option for different cleats, and cleat colors. DREADS, and LONG HAIR.

    Thanks, EA

  • Tate-Smillie said May 20, 2009

Yeah PLEASE bring back dreads!!!!!! There are so many players that have them, and then you see them, and they have a freakin' buzz cut. kingky82 commented about the fans not cheering until he crossed the goal line, I agree because I have had so many games come down to the wire, with me or the other team throwing a Hail Mary, and yet, the fans just kinda sit there and then he crosses AND THEN they cheer. In addition to that, when it's like a game winning TD, they shouldn't just act as if it is a normal, any old touchdown... They should be tripping over each other, right?

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 20, 2009

yo BayouPerspective we want a realistic video game that plays to teams strength not a fake game that boostes people stats thats retarded yo, then everybody will be scrambling with their QB like a bunch of cheesers yo thats by far the worst post ive heard so far please dont put stupid post like that ever again. I hope u see my previous message so u can relize how stupid and dumb u actually sound.........just plain retarded.

  • cjman2020 said May 20, 2009

xROMO_9xwinz, dude you are a EA tool for the most part. Give the us the customer and fan what we want, no one wants a useless mode such as this.  Make the online dynasty better, you guys have the worst penalty system out there fix that, fix the review system which is a total waste, dynasty mode could go a little more deeper.  This are just some of the many problems the game has fix those before adding useless modes.

IF you consult with the community like you say you then I dont think this would have come up, either that or you have some tools as community testers.

  • QUiiCkN3zZ said May 20, 2009

in ncaa 10 make more penalty like late hits out of bounds, and also would like to see the cpu actally do offense and defense pass interferEnce not just the user. I want to see more fighting and shoving between the players in rivalry games and bowl games and have that cause penalties also. put illegal touching penalty in the game where if a off of player runs out of bounds and comes back in and touch the ball. please EA bring more penalties plz.............more penalties the more the drama

  • pharaoh_00 said May 22, 2009

I finally see why you guys can't make a good football game your a group of fat computer geeks. You think building a fake team (like FSU in last years game) is the best thing about college football. The ability to make the Yankees or your high school team and put them in the game is the best thing about college football! College football is first about pageantry, Saturday afternoon, you need to capture that before anything else, second its about the school and players,, the jerseys, their style, the equipment. Third coaches they should be in the game, watch a college football game, 3 seconds don't pass without something about the coach. And fourth the fans, the crowds in NCAA 09 do not pay respect to the real life fans of college football. Until you get this down don't add create-a-school. In college football teams dominate year after year, USC, Florida, Texas, not just because the get good athletes but because they have good schemes. Thats my create-a-playbook would be so much better than CAS. Creating a defensive scheme that no one can score on, or an offense that is unstopable will keep people playing, it will make the game grow. All you have to do is watch a college football game take everything you can possibly take from it and put it into your game.

Its all about the atmosphere crowds that live and breathe..

cheer at right time... explode on huge run and cheer ok for a first down early in the game. and explode for that first down late that means keeping a drive going.

the crowds should go silent when the away team has momentum..

RIVALRY AND BOWL GAMES SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER SOUND LEVEL..

SHOULD BE DYNAMIC .. THE TOP TWO BIG EAST THOUGH NOT RIVALS USUALLY SHOULD HAVE ASTRONOMICAL CROWDS IE  LOUSIVILLE RUTGERS YEARS AGO...  IT FELT DIFFERENT.

PLEASE FILL THE CROWDS ON THE SIDELINES... HAVE YOU EVER SEEN TV... THERE ARE AT LEAST A HUNDRED PEOPLE ON THE SIDELINES. tHEY DON'T HAVE TO MOVE JUST BE THERE SO WE CAN SEE THEM..  THE FOUR CAMERA MEN IN THE ENDZONE I EMBARRASSING

How come there can't be a season showdown for PSP?  It has a wifi connection.

Also, a playoff mode that you could just use or put into (online) dynasty would rock.

  • highschoolball23 said June 19, 2009

A playoff on Online or dynasty mode! The teams that does not make the season showdown tournament, go to a bowl game, or you have a NIT tournament just like the NIT Tournament in basketball. Also, let us have a senior bowl.

Glove color, sock color, more people on the sidelines, WHO CARES!!! I want to play someone who isn's out to cheese me!!!! Kneeling in the second quarter on the goal line, going for it on every 4th, always offsides kicking and fake going for 2 or on punts, rb at de, wr at fb, the list goes on and on. CANT ANYONE PLAY A REALISTIC GAME????

  • slick1ru2 said June 22, 2009

One thing I would like is integration with madden and ncaa 09 online dynasties like the offline ones have, that would be cool to move graduates into madden from ncaa online dynasties into your madden online league.

  • Curtwood09 said June 23, 2009

Dude this is dumb. Instead of making a quality realistic game like Madden, you douches give us SEASON SHOWDOWN and MASCOT GAMES and FIELD GOAL NETS. You guys are great. Way to revolutionize the game. Tim Tebow runs a 4.5 why the heck is he an 85 speed and something like that on acceleration??? What are yall thinking? There's no point in anyone else even commenting on the blogs, THEY AREN'T LISTENING. They're putting in whatever scams they want in this dumb game. I've bought this game since 2005. This sucks.

I just played your NCAA demo and loved the game. The way the players run is nice, I like the overall look of it. The main problem I see is that the circle route by the HB out of the back field is too effective. This was a huge problem in madden 09 last year also. It's a guaranteed 3-7 yards every play. In a game of inches there cannot be these types of flaws in the game. Fire the ball when the HB turns towards you and you have a completion every time. Zone coverage drops back too far and watches the play happen in front of them, man coverage worked some of the time, depending on who you have manned up on the HB.

I think this feature will be a great thing for players.  Yes everyone will use florida but they are just pussys cuz they just play to win but if youve noticed it gets pretty retarded going undefeated 3 years in a row on a dynasty and it mite sound dumb but its fun to lose sometimes.  If you are like me i am going to use syracuse most likely and they are absolutly terrible.  Its all because some of the players that i went to high school with are on the team.  One holds an NCAA record and the other sits his butt oj the bench.  I know this is something i will look forward to.

And all you haters if you say madden is so much better than dont buy NCAA, go buy madden and if you ask me i think madden is goin down the crapper.  i havent bought it in three years.  NCAA football has been my favorite game since i started playing video games as a kid.  yes , the mascot challenge was extreemly retarded but i think ea made a step in the right direction.

Now if they could fix up some stuff in dynasty and the new road to glory mode.  Like in RTG if you arent starting and then you could transfer that would be a plus.  Now if they would just put the FCS teams back on the game like they do in PS2 that would be sweet.  I liked doing dynasties with FCS teams and building them up to powerhouses.

But in the end this is cool because you can use your favorite team that you always root for and try to be the make the best team in the nation.  Nice add-on ea! i like the team builder too.

You know whats up i want college baseball back i would play that game for hours on end then they took it away just cuz 2007 sucked.

  • WatchYoFingers said July 07, 2009

I understand what EA is trying to do with this Season Showdown but it all comes down to numbers. What happens when Texas opens up against Louisiana Monroe or Michigan opens up against Western Michigan and the big schools have a ton more users than the small ones? It seems like a popularity contest rather than a skill contest. In the end, people will just use their school to play whoever they want, not the opponent on the real-life schedule. It shouldn't be that people have to play for their school respectively, but I think people would rather play to see what individual is the best. A 32 person tournament based on individual performance not by team would be sick; I like the idea, needs a few tweaks, like making it individualized. Anyways Im pumped for the game.

  • Colonel Reb 5 said July 12, 2009

This whole idea sounds goofy to me.

  • LGfish10 said July 13, 2009

Last year was the first year I didn't purchase NCAA and I went with Madden. But the season showdown sounds like a good idea to me. It's the whole reason I'm going to buy the game.

You can still play your online games with other schools and still play dynasties, if you don't want to participate in the season showdown, don't. For those of us who do want to, we will use this feature and hopefully will be happy with it. True college football fans will appreciate a way to rep their school.

Mascot challenge still BLOWS! Please stop wasting space on the game.
