Titans avenge 2008 playoff loss to Ravens in 35-21 victory

Posted On: Jun. 12, 2009 12:58 PM EST By: EA_IanCummings 304 Comments

Nashville, TN --
A rookie defensive back sealed the fate of the Ravens today, sending the Titans into the second round of the playoffs in Madden NFL 10.

The Tennessee Titans (9-7) took on the Baltimore Ravens (10-6) in the opening game of the AFC Wildcard game today in a crazy back and forth game filled with dazzling special teams and defensive play. QB Joe Flacco threw an interception as time wound down that rookie CB Ryan Mouton intercepted with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation to seal the Titans victory.

The Ravens defense led by Ray Lewis were tough as always, but their special teams play let them down as Tennessee often started with the ball in Baltimore territory. 2nd year sensation Chris Johnson used his 4.2 speed to break off some big plays, and the Ravens had very little to answer with on the offensive side of the ball.

  • PIMitch23 said June 12, 2009

only issues i have is that it seems like the A.I. running game looks a lil weak (but that might be due to the ratings and such) and once again the commentary is robotic(evil Tom Hammonds...). Other than that, this game looks incredible.

  • Z-RoThaCrooked said June 12, 2009

i hope the chalk lines will be in the background of the play selections to remind u if u are on the right, left or center of the field like the past madden games... right now i see they are just green grass behind the plays

  • HurricaneT said June 12, 2009

halftime show look super stupid that was a waste of time putting that half time show in the game because its nothing like 2k5 so stupid

i'm seriously piss right now that this dumb man

this game look just like madden 09

  • DuckieBum said June 12, 2009

So Rex Ryan leaves and Baltimore decides it's a good idea to run a 4-3 defense when the ball's at the 1 yard line?

  • Sgt Sparrowhawk said June 12, 2009

we've seen joe flacco do this so many times over the years??? pretty impressive when he is only just entering his second year

  • Troupe407 said June 12, 2009

Everything was Nice. The gameplay was great. I only have one problem EA. What is up with the halftime show. That seriously was a waste of time. And What about the commentary. Thats like the most important thing. Why dont you guys get the real guys in it. And stop havin these robots talking.

And give them some expression when a big play happens like in real life. "The 30,the 20, the 10 he's outta there." something like that. They sound like laid back the whole game...like there high. lol

  • Proud2B Awesome said June 12, 2009

uhhh...why does Kerry Collins whos 36 and resembles deputy dog look like a roided out, square jawed Race Bannon with jet black hair in part 2....

  • pdtodd12 said June 12, 2009

    Problem:

2:20 in the 1st qtr. Kerry Collins throws it deep to Gage an the DB went through thru he WR. I thought that nothing was going to go through anything in this game. Guess i was wrong.

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

    please fix the clock glitch!

  • BlacHaze84 said June 12, 2009

Lendale White looks a little too skinny, doesn't he?

  • Sgt Sparrowhawk said June 12, 2009

and arg the db's still run annoyingly after making a pick. holdin the very back of the ball with one hand. they would be fumbling everytime someone sneezed in the crowd like that

  • BlacHaze84 said June 12, 2009

On 2:33 seconds of the 1st video, there was a pitch play called. The pulling RG ignores (who I think) was MLB Ray Lewis. Again, I'm not asking for a perfect block or a pancake, but seeing my guard at least ATTEMPT to block would be nice.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 12, 2009

No Squib Kick again!??! Oh, and in reguards to my last comment, i was going by the time on the youtube clock. The pitch play i'm referring to was at 7:19 on the game clock.

  • jb8108 said June 12, 2009

great video i cant wait till aug, there was a few times where i think flacco sat in the pocket where as he couldve ran, and if its possible and there's time cause i know you guys are still working on the game more halftime show and post game commentary. Still love what you guys are doing with madden keep up the outstanding job. two more things mcnabb's deep ball accuracy should be higher and are the going to be comp picks in franchise

  • TitansBearsDores said June 12, 2009

warrior310, it is not a glitch they are using an accelerated clock with a 10 min game clock instead of just 5

BlacHaze84 Lendale white has lost a lot of weight this offseason, so no he does not look too skinny.

BlacHaze84... that WAS a squib kick at the end =P

Troupe407 haha those are real announcers... and they unfortunately sound just like that in real life as well most of the time when i see games they broadcast =P

Sgt Sparrowhawk  although they shouldn't, a lot of Defensive players run with the ball like that after turnovers (keith bulluck especially)

and the game looks amazing!!! =D  yea, the halftime show isnt perfect but im just glad there is one!!!!  and not all the players look perfect but so what?  a lot of them (philip rivers especially in one pic) look exactly like their real life counterparts... and i could care less if their faces do look real (even though it is awesome if they do).  I just want the gameplay and presentation to be good... which it looks like it is.  great job so far EA

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

the visor clips look stupid on the players.

kerry collins looks too young and he doesn't have a scruffy gray beard.

you guys still messed up on the stat announcements.

still don't see time of day changes.

flacco's hair doesn't come close to the style he really has, look on part 3 1:38  i believe.

why with every player you show on the bench, they all look like dumb jockies with big necks? lol.

you got a trashy as* halftime show.its like the commentators took a break when they weren't supposed to,lol.

i understand you guys are working hard but yall aint listening to a damn thing we say.

  • BillTheMac said June 12, 2009

I hate to say it but, from watching parts of the video I'm disapointed. Graphics and commentary are the same as 09. Even the animations look the same. Its like they just patched up 09 and called it Madden 10 lol.

I dont know I cant really say much without playing it. Yeah, they fixed some problems and improved other things. But, doesnt look too exciting right now. Figures EA would hype this up to be something big and rush the release date. Hopefully, I can be proved wrong...

  • JCash624 said June 12, 2009

gameplay looks good but that halftime and postgame show is weak. i thought they were supposed to make it better than 2k? all they did was take last years highlight reel and show the stats. 2k had berman taking you play by play, talking to players, and actually analyzing stats. not tryin to downplay the game tho looks cool just wasnt wat i was expecting at the half

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

you guys spend time on online franchise instead of focusing on the game itself.

im pissed right now,we would have thought you guys were listening.

me personally,i think i wasted my time here, prove that you guys are listening to our ideas and maybe i'll change my opinion.

  • mwa20000 said June 12, 2009

  • BlacHaze84 said June 12, 2009

Warrior310, it's not a clock glitch. It's called an accelerated clock. It's an option in the game, so you can turn it off.

  • jellybean3454 said June 12, 2009

can't you little nut bags be grateful got dam i never seen such cry babies in my life god le, give them a dam break ya'll being hard then a mug on them i know it isnt perfect but at least they are trying to make us satisfied and like i said earlier you cant blame them for that BS David Ortiz fatt butt did and them other guys and this is a new set of guys.... and is it that really dam hard to give them a chance ya'll really pissing me off man bcuz all dis crying ya'll doing aint nothing bcuz ya'll still going to buy it

could ya'll at least say thanks for postiing the video at least or say thanks for adding this are that for us such as better presentation that we've been asking for and color cleats and gloves

all i gotta say is stop being so hard on them and i myself know some things are messed up but i understand the situation and i know most of you guys do but act like ya'll dont

  • jellybean3454 said June 12, 2009

and BTW i'm not kissing azz or just taking anything they give us bcuz if ya'll would just think hard and think about they only have a year to fix and plus them other nut bags like David Ortiz messed it up so bascially u should be like letts give these new guys a chance and its not like u have nothing to lose or gain by giving them a chance

  • itsmejoshc said June 12, 2009

im surprised 2 of the highly rated defenses in the NFL let up that many points. where's the defense in madden10? the lack of good tackling by these teams in this video is absurd. yamon figurs to the house? give me a break that's not realistic.

  • jellybean3454 said June 12, 2009

i still mean what i said but that outside run blocking is horrible i agree wit one of them guys who said that but only reason i agree wit that is bcuz if u just look at all the outside run plays the defensive players are getting rite in and the only reason they noy hitting cris johnson in the mouth is bcuz he 99 speed

  • Rockmolder said June 12, 2009

It's an alpha version. Of course it's not perfect yet. I asume that Tiburon noticed that Collins doesn't look anything like himself. Those things take 2 minutes to change. I asume that this video is more about the current state of the gameplay, which looks very solid.

They'll have to tweak some stuff, I asume, like the WRs going up for the ball while the CB makes a minimal effort. Or the total lack of a pass rush at certain points. It looked like Green Bay last year with Kampman off the field.

Last thing. Why are you people constantly bashing on the HT show? I haven't played 2K5 for ages, but the only thing I can recall that they had over this, is Chris Berman who was throwing around choppy comments. 'Green... RAN IT IN FROM.. 20 yards.. OUT AND GOT THE TD, GIVING THE... Packers... A... 21-14... LEAD!' Seriously, I'm happy that Lindsay Soto(?) isn't trying to utter out sentences like that.

Good job, Ian. You're on the right track. Keep bringing Madden to higher levels (and Europe, please).

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

its not crying if it needs to be added.

crying is when people say "oh chad johnson has on the wrong wristband",thats just bit**ing lol.

blachaze,i was already told that and i didn't know before but thanks anyways.

  • itsmejoshc said June 12, 2009

also change it so that DLs on a punt block do not jump up to block the kick that is unrealistic. they do on a FG but not on a punt return

  • jellybean3454 said June 12, 2009

lol yea warrior310 Kerry Collins do look a little 2 yung he looks like a 25 year old LMFAO

  • KRYP2NITE4 said June 12, 2009

in the second video(2:16), Foxworth returnes an interception for a TD and then the cut sene shows the raven fans upset with their heads down...they should be celebrating!!

but on the bright side, u guys added playoff logos on the field like me and others have requested! THUMBS UP

  • Rockmolder said June 12, 2009

In addition to my last post, I do have one big problem with the game, as it looks right now.

The QBs still seem to rather throw 20 interceptions than 1 sack. This frustrates me big time, as I love getting sacks and, in Madden 09, I'm nearly dissapointed when I once again intercept a pass.

  • syge said June 12, 2009

Speak for yourself warrior310. Facial hair is not "the game itself." Facial hair is something that is probably not thought about all that much while they're still making improvements to the way the game plays. So yes, you are crying, stfu.

Oh Jesus Christ Kerry Collins doesn't have a scruffy gray beard. We've been betrayed!

It's so obvious that that character model is a generic placeholder in an ALPHA version of the game, I mean if I were EA I wouldn't even allow comments on these blogs because 95% of them are completely useless banter from angry mongoloids.

In my opinion, while they certainly didn't listen to all the people who whine about visors and facial hair, they listened to the critics of Madden's weakest aspect: the GAMEPLAY.

This game is a great foundation for massive gameplay improvements. Even this year it's apparent that the game plays much more realistically, the animations are improved and they've added/subtracted good/bad ones respectively, the presentation is improved greatly, and they've added two huge features.

Of course it's not perfect; they have a year to develop this stuff, but I for one am very impressed with how much of an overhaul the gameplay itself has received.

Yet you're whining about Kerry Collins not having facial hair.

    Face to the palm.

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

syge stop trying to start sh*t,stop bit**ing about me.

take your own advise and STFU! please.

  • syge said June 12, 2009

And also, to the people who are saying LOL IT LOOKS JUST LIKE 09!

    DID YOU EVEN PLAY 09??!??!?

To me, while graphically it is of course similar, it looks almost like a new freaking game. The speed is completely different, the animations are fluid and they branch, the blocking / tackling is improved immensely, tons of new coverage animations and reception animations, the presentation is completely different.

I mean you should have to take an IQ exam to post on these boards...it's as if the Madden fanbase is composed entirely of 9-year-olds or people who think they are thugs for playing a football video game and intentionally misspell words to seem "ghetto."

Honestly are these people trolls? They can't seriously be this freaking stupid.

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

and dude i listed what was wrong with the vids i saw so please get off my case.

your on a madden post talking about ME? (i must be important to you) say something that would be productive to the game.

because you dont agree with something i say doesn't mean im wrong, grow up and take people's opinions.

  • jellybean3454 said June 12, 2009

i hope ps3 graphics looks as good as xbox 360 graphics because i'll be the first to admit xbox 360 graphics on madden 09 looked great and it seems like the graphics on madden 10 look great 2 i hope ps3 graphics are like xbox 360 bcuz ps3 graphics on madden 09 looked a little funny

i hope ya'll show us madden 10 graphics being played on ps3

  • syge said June 12, 2009

When you drop blanket statements like "THEY AREN'T LISTENING TO US AT ALL" you deserve to get called out for it. They might not be listening to exactly what YOU'RE saying, but they are making these decisions based on feedback.

If you don't want to get called out, think a little bit before you just start spewing nonsense.

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

jellybean i have a question,do you have a HD cord for your PS3 and a HD TV? because i do and they look just as good.

  • boyce1602 said June 12, 2009

Warrior310, I think Syge is saying that your complaints are primarily cosmetic. Being that the videos are from ALPHA stage, it's safe to assume that the cosmetic touches to make the game more realistic will happen closer to launch. Right now the main focus is be gameplay - as it should be. There is a huge difference in gameplay between '09 and the videos above - the biggest being the animations. It's refreshing to see that the QBs are actually dropping back normally instead of being sped up way too fast like in '09. Remember, this is an ALPHA gameplay video...

  • j2k9 said June 12, 2009

EA love the strides you made this year!  You guys should really focus on the overall running in the game next year.  I understand that you guys couldn't do everything in less than a years time but hopefully you can address the running next year.  Don't get me wrong, the running is pretty good as it stands now but it can definately be improved.  Here's just a few things that I would suggest:

    1. The overall footplanting needs to be touched up.  I still notice some occasional sliding during the game.  We should get the feeling of cleats digging into the ground during cuts & shifts of body weight. I know that you guys worked on momentum this year but you should go all out next year.

    2. Running backs need to be lower when running through the holes.  As it stands right now, the RBs are too upright after taking the handoff.  You should only be upright when you are at top speed on a break away.

3.You should add the animation of the RB grabbing on to the back of the Lead Blockers jersey when following him on a run. I was playing 2K5 yesterday & noticed that they have it in the game. It would be a great touch of realism.

4.Last but not least, you should really work on signature running styles.  You started this in 07 but haven't really touched on it since then.  Are signature running styles still in the game?

Just a few suggestions to make the game even greater than it already is.

  • j2k9 said June 12, 2009

Is PROGRESSIVE LIGHTING in the game this year?  If not then you really need to add it back EA.  Why did you ever take it out?

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

    1) i can say what i want

    2) dont worry about me

    3) i have great ideas on older post (ask people)

    4) its my opinion

    5) STFU

just let it go already, you said what you wanted and i said what you should do.now if you are bored i think you should find some friends,im done having this discussion.

  • SLAVEMASTER14 said June 12, 2009

*crying* EA thank you, thank you for making this amazing game. Bless you bless all of you. *wipes tears* Ok, First off the game looks Amazing in the way tackles are made and the way players fall its just great. I think for the first time in my 12 years of madden play I saw a complete pocket. No more dropping back 10 yards just to make a throw, im so happy =D. Now of course there are problems but that is why you guys set up this blog for us to give you feed back and i have some pretty filling stuff.

1.Still didn't see all these running lanes you said there would be, running is still an east and west thing rather than north and south.

    2. Come on Kerry Colins and Joe Flacco look like monsters, fix the facial graphics please.

    3. I want better and more updated celebrations, please see if you guys can as the season goes on update the game or set something up with xbox and ps3 for downloading of new celebrations. Cuz if Ohicocinco or TO makes up a great Celebrations it would be soooo cool if you guys could do the animations and put it up for download.

Other than that great game. some of the other things that i liked.

    1. Finally the players on the sideline are the players that actually play in the game not some made up number guy i've never seen before.

    2. Chain gang is nice to see, when they come out. Plus it makes me feel better when they measure so i dont have to waste a challenge cuz in the 09 version the game missed a lot of 1st down calls.

    3. The crowd noise is amazing and makes the game so much realer. Player talk is better and love the coaches moving and doing stuff(unlike the 09 where they were glued to one freakin spot on the field).

    4. Looks like you guys actually tried to make custom throwing, I noticed a difference in the way Kerry threw the ball and the way Joe threw. Maybe i just need glasses but they looked different to me. I hope there is some sort of QB arm throws style and if not there should be one.

Thats all EA, im done crying over this masterpiece and cant wait to get my football loving hands on it. JOYGASM!!!!!!

  • j2k9 said June 12, 2009

EA I love all the cutscenes in the game this year but CAN WE PLEASE GET THE SIDELINE PLAYERS TO LOOK LIKE THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD DURING GAMEPLAY?  They look great during the cutscenes but during gameplay they look like PS1 graphics.  I understand that it's hard to do because of all the other thing added to the game but can we at least not have them looking like cardboard figures?  Also, it's time we get some collision detection for the sidelines too.  I hate when I see players walking through players on the sidelines as if they're ghosts.  How about some collision detection for the endzone pylons too.  The technology's there so why not?

  • syge said June 12, 2009

    I agree with J2k9.

This is an immense first step to matching (or surpassing) 2K5 but the running game animations need to be ironed out. Madden still has the issue of a back simply running in place behind his line, and the backs still just run too upright.

Next year I hope to see improvements to the AI and running game...I think those two things are the weakest aspects of the game, though they are improved this year certainly.

Lead blocking AI, pass blocking AI, etc, all looks greatly improved (especially pass blocking...I can't tell you how frustrating 09 was in that respect) but I still think some work can be done to make the AI less predictable, make better decisions, and manage the clock a bit better, and improve play calling.

For example towards the end of regulation in the videos Baltimore was driving, I think at the 21 yard line. And the play that was called looked to be a hail mary, which would just be kind of silly in that situation. Flacco ended up lobbing it right into the hands of a defender who dropped the easy pick.

But as I've said before, this looks awesome...so excited for August 14.

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

slavemaster, they will have diverse throwing styles for each starting QB.

    you mentioned some good things.

  • BillTheMac said June 12, 2009

What, EA fixes a few things that should of been patched or done right from the begining.. and you think its a whole new game.

So what if Warrior wants to complain. 20 years of Madden and they still dont get it done right. Every year its like a slap in the fucking face from them.

What was so special that you saw in the video? The refs and new blocking? Give me a break. Pretty much all the animations looked the same except for gang tackles.

All I see is a "fixed" version of Madden 09.

  • RocAfellaYa4eva said June 12, 2009

Lmao, Yo yall dudes sound like a bunch of little girls man. Calm down!!! And the whole "your not listening to anything were saying "thing is a little drastic. These guys have made great strides in improving this game in a years time. You tell me which past Madden has made this amount of whole sale changes in a years time? Thats right, none. This is the most improved in a year that any sports game has ever been. Stop the B!thin becuz no VIDEO GAME is ever gonna be perfect. Real life players on the field arent either. So... alot of yall just need to change ur tampons.  Oh yea by the way, Great job EA. Foundation For The Future!

i just said what needs to be fixed from my prospective, and i did mention that ea is working hard.you guys like to tie up people's words.

    billthemac is very right.

dudes have been asking for stuff for years now, still where is it?yes they touched up on some gameplay but the game needs more dimensions.

i understand if its an alpha vid, you'll never know what would be in the real game.

some of you guys just keep riding with what they do and thats why madden is still whack, dont get me wrong but i do think madden 10 will do great (at least hope) and it was the same for all the years, look at where we are now, still hoping for new stuff that should be added from years ago.

  • IndyColts2012 said June 12, 2009

First of all, great game, looks solid and very much improved!  All of things I'm going to say are said in the best way possible and I only mean to point things out. So here goes:

    1. I'm so thrilled they finally got punting right — there's usually either a fair catch or a three-second or longer return, not the ones in previous Maddens where you return it for about a quarter of a second and get tackled. Good they have blockers back there, too.

    2. The camera shake when you've beaten everyone and about to score is a good effect, but it needs to be blended smoother with the previous camera angle. Looks good, though.

    3. The halftime show was the biggest waste of my time of my life. Either make it better or take it out.

    4. Overall I think the post-tackle cutscenes are happing too quickly after the tackle.  At least give the play a second or two for the animations to stop in the normal camera angle and THEN skip to the cutscene.

Honestly, though, it looks like this is going to be the best Madden yet — can't wait for it to come out in August!

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

i just saw a new trailer and it looks cool.

  • j2k9 said June 12, 2009

Sideline players should be jumping up & down during a big plays like an interception return for a touchdown for example.  Also, coaches should be wearing jackets & refs should be wearing long sleeves during cold weather games.

  • syge said June 12, 2009

Heh, I like how BillTheMac is complaining that they've had TWENTY YEARS to add this stuff.

You're right bro, developing for the Sega Genesis is just like 360 and PS3...I mean Christ they should have had gang tackles in Madden 94. Lazy pricks.

  • IIFootballerIIII said June 12, 2009

Chris Collinsworth is a dooscush Cant believe you brought him back. I had to play 09 with the commentary turned off. Too bad I couldnt turn off mario running or fb dive.

  • Supernova8463 said June 12, 2009

EA, game looks awesome except for a few things I noticed.

    1. Time of day lighting (or whatever) I didn't any change in the lighting as the game progressed.

    2. It looked really easy. Any clue as to what level that was played on?

    3. Tom Hammon needs to go. Too robotic. I didn't like him in 09.

    4. The halftime show needs fixed. Maybe more talking about the game along with the replays.  But, you cant forget that this will be viewed every halftime.  Even if you guys create a fantastic halftime, it'll get boring eventually. So, I don't know what else you could do besides add more to what you have. You could get rid of it. However, alot of us fans wanted a halftime. And if you delete it, you're gonna need a new one sooner or later.

    5. I could understand the referee were talking but it was extremely hard to hear them. If other people have the same problem then it should be fixed. Otherwise, it takes away ALOT from the refs.

Perhaps you could make an optional voice patch for the commentators. I downloaded one for Fifa 09 and it made it quite different.

And all the people complaining, STOP. for god's sake, it's a video game. It's never gonna be perfect. If you don't like it, don't buy it. But in the end, what'll happen is, you'll buy it and then complain and still complain about the next year.  I, myself, don't like cardboard looking players. But it's one of those things you just have to deal with.  I've had Madden since 2000 on the PC.  It's come a long way.  Good job EA.

Ea sports is a sell out this game look the same as madden 09 but with a little fix 2 graphic and they took out weapons and they just put in a crapy a** halftime show LOL....I think ea sports is scare of 2k taking over football so they bought the license they new if they wouldn't had bought that license every madden fAn wouldn't been playing nfl 2k10 right now.... Just think how 2k10 would look like...(2k took over basketball already NBA 2k is the number one basketball game) so I think ea should end that lil license stuff for 2k could come out competion would make both game good

everybody has an right to their opinion if warrior310 or anyone else feels madden has not made strides then thats their opinion.if jellybean3454 feels they have done a great job then thats his opinion,so what gives any of us the right to jump on warrior310 or anybody about how they feel about this game?now here is my opinion,i feel this game will be a better game than 09 of course i love the new additions to the gameplay and presentation the cute scenes look good but on that note this is a franchise thats been around for 21 years and we are just now getting something that 2k5 had.it still falls short with the halftime show,i see players being upset when their team makes a good play how does this happen ea please explain this.i will be getting the ame no question about it but this game will fall a little bit short of everything we see on sunday.whoever dont like anything i said oh well.

  • KILLA KAVOR said June 12, 2009

I like how the game looks. However is it me, or is their no NEW commentary from hammond and collinworth in this game?? Their saying the same thing they said in 09.

  • CAMREN630 said June 12, 2009

no syge they should of had gang tackling in 2004 i gave them ten more years than you did and they still didnt have it,but 2k5 had gang tackling right.after 20 years they finally realize what we see on sunday needs to be seen in madden i mean what was your goal for all the previous years?

  • CAMREN630 said June 12, 2009

who cares if people cry so what just like yall said if you dont like it dont buy it well if you dont wanna hear people complain then dont read their comments simple.this will be a good game but still will fall a little short of everything we see on sunday.

  • warrior310 said June 12, 2009

  • CAMREN630 said June 12, 2009

yeah warrior310 i know he was but so was i cause people are so quick to jump to ea defense all the time i personally think the game will be good but i do understand some of the complaints.i for one like some of the moves ian and co have made hopefully by 2012 this game will be where it needs to be to where we can finally say everything we see on sunday.

  • jellybean3454 said June 12, 2009

Camren630 1st of all i wasnt attacking warrior so u can just shut that up and did u hear me ever say they did a good job all i said is u stupid little idiots needs to give them a chance bcuz ya'll are attacking them like that are the one that messed madden 08 and 09 up, and if you know anything this is a new set of guys and i never once heard anybody say thanks EA for the videos and listening to our feedback bcuz at 1st the ppl who were working on madden before ya'll took over really never showed us alot of stuff only time we heard something about madden was at e3

but na ya'll cant do that bcuz all ya'll think about is whats not that there and i agree with most of this stuff ppl are saying but at least u idiots could say thanks and stop being so mad and of course i know the game can use some more work but i know it takes alot of work to fix that in just a year

look at it this way if u buy a house that has bad painting, unleveled housing, broking garage, stopped up toilet, and broking AC and i tell u have the whole house fixed in 7 days to where its perfect and everybody would wanna buy it i doubt you would be able 2 do it, bcuz one the time is short and whoever had the house at 1st really screwed it up

    Hey Ian,

When we was asking for a Halftime Show we were asking for Lots of Commentary with Enthusiasm calling out in Full Detail the plays of the 1st Half and 2nd Half. All of this while we Watch it Happening. But what it looks like you are giving us is a HALF ASS SEGMENT that you all are calling a Half Time Show. I for 1 is very DISSAPPOINTED with this. My hopes were very high until this.

Look at EA Sports World Top 10 Countdown, That is what I was expecting at the very least. You guys watch that countdown and tell ME that that Countdown is not EXCITING. I will Slap somebody Silly If Something of that caliber is not in the game next year . But if its not too far in Development you should add Something like that Via download after shipment or with the game at release.

Im not Settling for Nothing HalfAssed From EA anymore. I rather you not have it in the Game at all than to do it that way.

    PEACE OUT AND BE BREEZY!!!

  • ibleedbllue said June 12, 2009

A few points of constructive criticism: The eyes of both QB's appeared "shiney" or brighter than normal and odd.  Perhaps put the baseball hats that are already in the game on fan's heads on the heads of the QB's for the sideline shots.  Peyton Manning wears one anyways, and the hair looked pretty awful.  Lastly, Chris Johnson's stride was too bouncy.  His leg turnover could be faster and he stays even with the ground when he runs.  These are all pretty minor points that you guys probably have caught already, and don't even really need to be in this year's build.  Ian, from all appearances, you have successfully turned this franchise around.  I think everyone here, including myself owes you a congratulations for all the hard work.  Perhaps next year you'll be able to add more staff to the dev. team and accomplish even more.  I had a suggestion on another blog post to add an entire team to run the server side of online franchise.  Thanks again Ian.

  • marcokhalil@aol.com said June 12, 2009

I'm stunned by what I'm reading on these comments. Like "this looks just like 09." That one really got me. This is SO much different than 09. Cutscenes to the fans, coaches, players on the phone, PEOPLE BUYING MERCHANDISE, a slower gamespeed, new animations, custom player styles, a pocket, 3+ man gang-tackles, different play-calling screen, chain-gang, new player equipment, new pause menu, "this is an EA Sports presentation", halftime show, post game show... the list goes on and on. I don't know how you can say this game looks just like last year. That was an absolutely ridiculous statement, Hurricane T said... absolutely ridiculous. These videos make me SO excited for the game. Loved em. Thanks EA.

  • TreyIM2 said June 12, 2009

Damn, late to the party. I had heard Ian was going to post new Madden vids on youtube way earlier today but I didn't find them, and, to be honest, I didn't try that hard looking for em. Now that I revisit this site, for the 13th time, today, here they are and I am late.

At any rate, game looks great even in that alpha state. I'm too tired to speak on some of the things I picked up on but, at first, I was worried about the running but on the interceptions, the corners/safeties looked phenomenal running back for TDs. I really got a sense of speed and the run animation looked perfect. I see the differences in the running but I don't wanna speak on it more than this. Can't wait for more. Good job.

  • blindpug said June 12, 2009

Im sorry, but this game doesnt really look much different. I keep hoping and wanting more and I am let down. the game basically is the same, ya its slowed down a bit and the cut scenes are better but thats not whats gonna get me all worked up. I had read that there was more pregame and halftime stuff, but that doesn't look any better at all. Also, as ive read others say, people are not shaped right. Lindell is a hefty dude and he was barely larger than Johnson. Collins looked ripped....I did however like the more simplistic play calling and ability to move people in and out as well the injury stuff is nice. None the less, I really hope the franchise mode is better and smarter. Also, Online Franchise without free agency and a salary cap is like Cereal without the milk. I mean honestly, the point of running a franchise is the ability to keep things in order from cap to how much you wanna pay a guy, how long, etc. I think its a blunder of epic proportions to have a "Online Franchise" that takes out one of the principle aspects of the mode. Anyways, as much as I hate that nothings being improved on, ill end up buying the game cause im a football freak and I don't have any other options. The game is good but the innovation is NOT happening. I sadly feel like the same guys im seeing year after year developing this game need to be replaced w/ people who want to move things forward in other areas instead of minor tweaks to stuff no one really notices and doing almost nothing to the stuff people really want changes.

  • CAMREN630 said June 12, 2009

one more suggestion i keep hearing ea say that a years time is not enough time to do alot of things well how bout taking a year off?since you guys have online franchise that runs up too ten years just give us an update for madden 11 and work hard for 12.oh wait you guys would lose money right thats what this is all about, you guys should just take a year off figure out what needs to be done to make the best football experiance ever.just an opinion of mine.

  • SILENT-J said June 12, 2009

Graphics are smooth a lift from the previous madden but nothing to bust a nut over. The gameplay is smooth and i like it. The worst part of the game is the commentary. Holy hell you can fall asleep listening to them. Better yet we have heard the same commentary for two years now. Seriously hire new people and add some excitement into the game. Its like real sundays. The commentators see something amazing that react in a way that actually seems like that are being amazed. Not "Well that was a long pass. The defense wasn't expecting that." I know thats not a line but you catch my drift. The halftime show wow boring as hell same with the post game. C'mon I know you guy get it alot but when are you going to learn that the commentary and the halftime show and postgame is what makes the game real. People love watching highlights with a commentator being surprised on. They dont like the same repetitive comments and the idea of a halftime and postgame show that consists of "And here are the highlights for the first half".........."Now back to the game." "Welcome back to (put stadium name here) stadium!" Wow.. Other than that good job on everything else.

  • KoachVonner said June 12, 2009

Overall I think it looks great. I love the effort that was put into the game over the course of 1 year. Great Job on that. I only have a few concerns Ian.

    1. Run/Pass defense needs to be a little more aggresive. I understand this was All-Pro, but thats only one level from All Madden

    2. Two refs fun down the same sideline on long TD runs

    3. Wrong team cheers on fumble recovery

    4. I believe its time to change the defensive playbooks. Put some cross fire blitzes in etc...

    5. We need new commentary now that Madden is gone. Get Troy Aikman and Joe Buck (Hell yeah!!)

You did a great Job Ian Overall!!

  • BlacHaze84 said June 12, 2009

After watching the videos, I am disappointed. But because I am an NFL Fanatic, I will buy the game. What other options do I have?

I was one of the few who lobbied for better gameplay, smarter AI, and the omission of unrealistic physical aspects that can easily be taken out. Instead, fans like me were ignored in favor of adding irrelevant things like handwarmers (Kerry Collins NEVER put his hands in those stupid things), correct facemasks (which nobody cared about), and even the proper shade of Neon-green on the gloves of the Seahawks. You even put in a Half-Time show that i'm sure everyone is just gonna skip over now. I still see defenders take horrible angles to the ballcarrier. I still see shoestring tackles working way too often (they work, but not that much). And the holding calls....did you have the holding penalty slider to the max!?!? You also ran the Fake-FB HB Toss a couple of times and the cpu didn't adjust to your repetitive play-calling. Now i remember the post that you had that said the cpu will adjust to the play-calling if you keep calling the same play. I was excited about that. But either you changed your mind, or it only works on the All-Madden difficulty and you had it on All-Pro.

After reading most of these posts, alot of people are saying it still reminds them of 09. Maybe that's cuz Ian was too busy getting Chris Johnson's HyperXH Zethro Facemask correct instead of working on the gameplay!! I've said it before, if the gameplay was on point, nobody would care about correct colors on the players' socks, or where's Roethlisberbers' number on his helmet.

So Ian, i can't even knock you. You have done a better job than your predecessors, and I applaud you for that. But i have to say i'm not excited about Madden 10.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 12, 2009

Don't get me wrong though, Ian. You did great. But I'll just have to wait until Madden 12 when you guys put in that Euphoria engine.

  • NBAKING said June 13, 2009

I would just like to say you guys are doing a good job on improving madden, although there are still some problems it is still an improvement over madden 09. But like everyone else said the halftime show is really lame, i mean it's basiclly the same as 09 but they just introduce it instead of just popping up. I really hope you guys improve it. On a second note i read a couple comments on how lendale white looks skinnier, as  a Titans fan, and someone else posted a comment earlier about it, it is true he has lost alot of weight during this off season, i think around 20-25 pounds. EA keep up the good work, can't wait until the game comes out Aug. 14, Deuces I'm out.

  • itsmejoshc said June 13, 2009

  • Leyland said June 13, 2009

Tom Hammond really kills it. Why cant they have someone who sounds excited about football?

  • itsmejoshc said June 13, 2009

i think juking effectiveness should be lowered, and tackling should be strengthened. harper juking out of a tackle? figurs too?

  • 44CornerBlitz said June 13, 2009

I don't know...seems to me that if a 'fixed version of 09' is the first version released, we ought to be pretty happy. The blocking and tackling looks much better, the commentary will irritate some all the time (just like TV), and I'd bet the player models aren't a finished product just yet. I'm sure some of the other major upgrades are transparent to us (i.e. ratings, franchise, etc.), so we should probably be patient. But when the first released demo looks better than the game I played last year...well, boys and girls, that's progress. Can't argue with that. On a side note, I doubt very much that most of the posters understand the work involved in programming and animation (I myself have a very limited grasp), so don't let the haters get you down. You guys are taking some looooong strides in the right direction. Can't wait for August 14th (Madden released on my birthday? Get outta here!).

  • 44CornerBlitz said June 13, 2009

And really...some of you need to proof your posts, because some of what I saw up there wasn't even English (I'm not talking about slang or urban slang or leetspeak, I'm talking such horrible spelling errors that I can't even make sense of what you were trying to say). You want people to hear your message? Take the time to make sure they can UNDERSTAND it.

  • NBAKING said June 13, 2009

Oh yea, i'm glad to see the cpu AI throw more than just 5-10 slant routes, and hitch routes all game, during the videos it really seems like the cpu AI really used to whole field when throwing the ball, and hitting different recievers. The run game for the cpu looked sort of weak, but i understand this is an alpha version, n still even when u called run plays it still had some of those moments where the blocker was running hard to the outside like he was just going to demolish a defender just to see him not block anyone like in Madden 09, it just seems like they just look confused on who they wanted to block, and then end up not hitting anyone.Hopefully this will be fixed before launch. Another thing the commentators don't bring any kind of excitement to the game, no matter what is happening on the field, and if you are keeping the same ppl from last year at least keep the commentating tight, bcuz i thought it was kind of funny, i think it was in the first video, one of the commentators said something like "we've seen Joe Flacco do this for years"but he is just entering into his second season, but it's not going to make or break the game if u don't change it, it was just an observation. But good work on improving the stadium and fan noise, gameplay, and just adding details, and extra stuff like the cutscenes, chain gang etc.., and keep up the good work.

  • footballfan82 said June 13, 2009

    my assessments

    1)  Thanks to the crew for taking notice to add the playoff logo on the field....if i was the one you read from the past post about this, i'll have to thank you for that!

    2)  Even though, the halftime show was lackluster.....its not bad for first effort

    3)  The interaction between the O and D-line seems improved....however, during running plays they seemed to be clumped together.  Also, i hope you guys still have the o-line AI do some double blocking.

    4)  QB intelligence....i've noticed on few occasions that when the QB has time to throw he makes a bad pass to double coverage or threw late to a open receiver who was running facing the sidelines

    5)  Is there any way possible that you can delete or rid of the "breakaway-camera-scene" that was activated around the 5:12 mark of the 2nd quarter.  I feel it disrupts the flow of that entire play.  Didn't like that feature from 09 still don't like it now.

Until I finally get playing time with the game myself, all of you working on this game have done a great job with 10 thus far....much improved from 09!!!!

  • Coltz53091 said June 13, 2009

I bet any money when i buy this game i am gonna think the same thing when i bought madden 2008. All it seems like is that this is going to be an expansion pack more than a full upgraded game. When madden 08 came out it was just like madden 07 with so minor changes and i feel that this game is gonna give the same feeling. I hope i am not right but it seems like it.=(

This game is an improvement in the blocking and recieving areas, but the running animations need fixing and the pro-tak system more like the hug-tak system. Overall the game is better than 09, but with the technology of today, Ea, you can do better. Please adopt the euphoria engine that is used in Backbreaker. The physics in that engine combined with your NFL license and presentations, will make Madden a game that is truly next-gen. Please listen to apexisfree, im sure you know who that is.

Why in this day and age of Madden do we still have cuts to black?? How often during a real football game do you see a cut to black between camera shots?

Yeh, it's a minor thing but for me it cuts through all the rest of the immersive atmosphere as a continual annoying reminder that it's a videogame.

If SCEA can put together a seamless, continuous, virtual interpretation of a baseball game with The Show, why can't EA do it with Madden?

  • ANTe UP 22 said June 13, 2009

first and foremost, the running animations look much better.  though it could be tweaked a bit, its a step forward.

and the halftime show...im sorry but the halftime show with the robotic generic commentary just a lame waste of time. is it really that hard to get REAL halftime poeple in there? you guys dont even have to SHOW them. just have them speaking as the highlights play.  maybe talk about certain plays in detail.  hell, if this *** was in 2k the halftime show would not only show chris johnson breaking 30yds for a touchdown but it would actually SAY "...and johnson showing his break away speed for the 30 yd touchdown!" or SOMETHING...i mean COME ON! im glad you guys are implementing the ability to button through everything because obviously with a crap half time show like that we WILL be buttoning through it.

the sad thing is, if you guys even read this comment, youre probably gunna think to yourselves, "oh he's still buying the game so it doesnt matter if our halftime show is crap"  which truely is the saddest thing about madden football.

  • iToMxP said June 13, 2009

Hmm this isnt really important or regarding to the post, but they should make create-a-player like top of the line. Have all the faces and hairstyles and equipment you can think of! I personally think creating players is pretty fun. and for player models, they should have like different proportioned bodies too! like most OTs have long arms so that should be in when creating player models for existing players and when you create your own. like michael crabtree has the longest arms out of all this years rookie WRs so he should have it in the game!! overall they should just recreate most player models and have everything right, hand size, arm length, muscle-weight ratio, body definition, leg size, all of these things would make madden more realistic.

  • iToMxP said June 13, 2009

oh and is it just me or is gammster finally gone !! WOO time for a celebration

  • CLeep3 said June 13, 2009

The screen play to Johnson that goes for a TD is a great example of my complaint about the players running animations being odd. This has been an issue in every next-gen version.  Why do they always look like they aren't running hard?  This may be the fastest guy in the NFL, and he looks like he is jogging.  Guys run hard, their legs move faster than that.  Everyone looks like they are taking really long, slow strides.  I hope the "game speed slider" you have discussed will fix this if it is turned up. If not, guess i can hope for Madden NFL 11 to finally address this issue, though I won't hold my breath.  I appreciate all the hard work and attention to detail this team has put into the last two games, but this issue is just too distracting because it can be seen on every single play and would love to see it fixed (again, unless the speed slider fixes it, if so, ignore everything I said).

  • Troupe407 said June 13, 2009

Damn i wish madden had the Nfl 2k5 halftime and postgame. That really sucks.

  • iToMxP said June 13, 2009

isnt it adaptiive AI implanted into the game? chris johnson's sweep and stretches and blah shouldnt be workin that well against the ravens defense in the first palce but shouldnt the computer adapt to it and adjust the def to look for it and then fix it and stop the outside runs?

  • iToMxP said June 13, 2009

omg, its all the same commentary... there should be so much more commentary, new people, all that stuff. really EA? are you that lazy to get ppl to say stuff into a mic and record it that you have to use LAST year's commentary ?!! gosh. new commentary PLEASE and somebody said something about audio patches or something and it being in fifa 09? well yeah you guys should totally have that. it woulda be such a big improvement over what you have now. multiple people woulda be great too. having jaws and troy aikman and different people commenting for your games depending on what is broadcasting like for fox, during the halftime show , have strahan and the gang, and i dont know anything else so yeah LOL

  • iToMxP said June 13, 2009

why is there so much holding. -.-

  • TreyIM2 said June 13, 2009

For those crying about the commentary - I'm not a tech, dev, game producer or anything like that but I think either the "commentary engine" would need to be changed to be more dynamic one where they can swap in and interchange more dialogue and such and/or EA would just need to have the guys put in more time recording the commentary which would be more costly. Personally, I could almost care less about the commentary as long as something is there because it just gets repetitive and subconsciously, my ears end up tuning out after a while, anyway, when playing. Even with the 2K series, I did the same. It's cute for a while but then gets tired.

Just when I get 2k5 out my mind, EA SHOVES IT BACK IN!

I was in awe with some of the gameplay videos that were posted. Even with the things that were written. With every piece of INFO in the weekly blog, NFL 2K5 was fading. But when I saw the First Footage of the Halftime, Weekly recap and Postgame shows NFL 2K5 POPPED back in my memory.

EA, once again you guys DROPPED the ball on this one. You could have made a statement. You could've made Believers out of Non-Believers. You could have but you didnt. You shouldnt give it the time if its gonna be halfassed. Now when the game Ships you are giving everybody a reason to bring up NFL 2K5 once again.

    PEACE OUT AND BE BREEZY!!!

Few things I thought about when I was thinking of new things to put in Madden 10. We Must Have these things in Madden 10 to make a better game.

    1. If a player gets hit hard (Hit stick to the head) There helmet should fly off 5 yards. And after the hit have the player who got hit acting really daised and confused if he gets hit by a big guy. Or maybe if its a smaller person who hits the runner or quarterback the person who got hit will quickly get up (Really quickly) and act like nothing ever happened.

    2. No robotic running, shoulders leaning when running, there back should not be straight up (looks like there jogging.) Espically for Power guys like Brandon Jacobs, Michael Turner, Jamal Lewis, and Larry Johnson (Must have for power guys.) Taller guys should have longer strides, quicker guys should look more athletic when running (like LT, Reggie Bush, Chris Johnson, Jerious Norwood, etc.)and quicker guys should move there legs faster and get up to full speed faster than big guys.

3.Better presentation at Halftime, and at the postgame report. Kickoff presentation is awsome, need to put the same effort into Halftime and Postgame. (Highlight shows must have commentary and more than showing just highlights, show something on the side of the screen like box scores and yardage per postion.) Better commentary...Show more enthusaum during a play, they act like there high. More commentary also, not just the same old boring things we hear all the time..."Example"...Time after time again, the Eagles depend on Donavan McNabb...I get tired of things like that from all players, not just him.

    4. Better sidelines, everyone on the sideline during a play is so unrealisticly looking. They look like moving paper boards (In 3D Form if that makes since...) all doing the same exact movements (not realistic at all...) Have the real players from the other side of the ball on the sideline.. "Example" ...When the offense is on the field, have all the defensive guys on the sideline, etc. I saw the video "Falcons vs. Chiefs" and I saw the defense on the sideline during the play call not the actual play, that what bothers me.

    5. Make the fans in the stadium more realistic and not all doing the same exact movements..dont make every fan have a certian movement because that would take to much time and be to diffucult, maybe have every 10 yards of fans doing something different...then after the 10 yards have them doing the exact samething...all the way down the stadium, once again not every fan doing the same thing. You can't really tell unless your at the endzone or Replay. But players are going to be at the endzones so its a must have also.

All of these would clear the thoughts of any haters and make the best football game the world as ever seen. And there are years to come, so making the graphics more realistic would be a must.

---And if anybody can spread this around to any of the EA sports designers it would be a big help, because we want this stuff done now or quickly as possible before Madden 10 comes out. Even though I'm posting this to the blogs, I'm actully directing this message to Ian Cummings because he's the one that can make the changes.

This game is garbage, it's basically a modified Madden' 09 which just doesn't cut it, after spending time going through the updates I was expecting something "cutting-edge" but this is just very disappointing and "de ja vu", it's official EA sucks, you guys have no foresight nor creativity and for you EA fanboys your expctations and standards are very low to be satisfied with more of the same, might as well just update Madden' 09 roster and let me continue playing that instead of buying Madden' 10 with simply just a roster update and a few stupid distractions like that silly half-time show. I don't remember 2k5 that well nor am I going to compare but I was totally expecting a whole new game and game-play, you guys have no creativity whatsoever and from what i've seen you guys are piggy-backing off of 2k5 which is classless, instead of going down 2k5 path you should've created a new game-play system from the usual which is current and try to expand on something fresh. From what i've seen thus far i'm not ecstatic nor the least bit excited, thank God for online play because a lot of people would've continued playing Madden' 09 (which isn't that good) instead of buying an updated roster version.

I still dont like the commentary. it sucks. its the same as 09. i liked the radio announcer idea in 08 ect. they need to spend some money and go out and get the local radion announcers for each team. the for ex. the eagles guy - you hear him every sunday. they need them - people with heart for their team as well as the game. add some excitement. not the plain old bland talk.

  • TreyIM2 said June 13, 2009

Do you know what that is, children? Google it, if you don't. Secondly, have you even played the final, released game yet?? Have you? No, have you? I'm asking you because you guys sound hella intelligent right about now. And I really hope u understand what sarcasm is based on what I said in that last statement. Again, Google it, if you don't. first of all the people who are saying for people to stop crying need to shut up. the reason they are doing this is because they don't want to pay 60 bucks for a game thats going to be crappy. EA i like some of the stuff u guys did this year but wow the half time show u guys did such a slack ass job. if im paying good money for this i want a game that is hard to stop playing. i want it to be like real football. because even though u guys may have added some of this stuff i would actually take the time to do all the rosters in 2k5 because they actually took their time with the halftime show. i mean comeon u guys u got all this technology and all this time and u can't make a good game. seriously though if i buy this game and it's exactly like 09 except with a few minor changes im taking it back. and will make a potition for people to sign to stop u guys from making madden video games and give the licence to 2k because right now they seem to want to make good games for us sports fans to enjoy. ohh yeah and syrg u need to stop attack people such as warrior and them just because they have ideas about the game to make it better.

Please, Please on the next update tell us if you are going to add more INDEPTH CONTRACT NEGOTIATING in superstar mode. This is the only feature i really really want. I have posted about it on almost every update, and i havent seen anything about it. (if you have mentioned it im sorry for still bringing it up.) It will make superstar mode so much more fun being able to holdout or not show up for team workouts. Also, if you are tearing up the league we should be able ask for a huge contract or else we'll go somewhere who will pay us big. Also if you do add this feature make it so the negotiating can go on for the entire off season if the two sides cant come to an agreement. Also allow us to ask for extensions during the season. PLEASE I AM ON MY KNEES BEGGING FOR THIS TO BE ADDED. PLEASE EA PLEASE!!

  • Qp33zy said June 13, 2009

Damn, after all that tuning they did & i don't really see a transition at all in the running game. *** is still robotic, whats so hard about making the game spd like the ps2. look at the first video 1:55 when chris did that spin, *** was terrible the man came to a complete stop. I like to dance around acting like barry sanders in the game (maunally juking) you could do that on current gen (ps2,xbox) but on this *** you cant even turn around because of the robotic play. Besides the d-pad and the analog stick don't even play the same because of the robotic play you basically have to use the damn stick just to try to get thorough holes. MAKE THE PLAYERS SEEM MORE AGILE, ITS SEEMS LIKE ALL PLAYERS ARE TIGHTEN & STIFF. GO BACK AND PLAY CURRENT GEN VERSIONS OF MADDEN, KEEP THE NEW GENS GRAPHICS & CHANGE THE GAMEPLAY/SPD LIKE THE CURRENT GENS AND ADD THE JUKES AND YOU HAVE YOURSELF THE BEST MADDEN. EA IS NOT LISTENING AFTER ALL IF PPL ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME DAMN THING EVERY POST.

  • ditchrider74 said June 13, 2009

The fact that the game starts and ends and the sky is the same is really bad.  No progressive lighting?  Unreal, I would skip the mediocre halftime show and implement the lighting.  It really kills it for me. I like the improved presentation, but if the sky will not change from light to dark, especially in the playoffs when this game probably kicked off @ 4 and it gets dark @ 5:30 then it is a big realism killer.

Really do not understand not including this...

  • swillz13 said June 13, 2009

i would rather wait another week because its not official vids and then i already have bad opinions on it.i just hope the real copy is totally different from this.

  • natronebeans said June 14, 2009

Commentary needs serious improvement.  Its too quiet in the booth they dont talk enough.  In the real NFL the commentators are selling the sport of American football.  They talk about more than what just happened on the field two seconds ago.  You guys have pro-tak technology, thats good, but now you need a buzz word for a new accurate and full commentary system.  In an exhibition game, have the commentators give us some background on the players and the course of the teams over the last few seasons.  In franchise give us backgroud on the teams based on what they accomplished over previously played seasons in frachise mode.  Throw some trivial babble in too, thats what real commentators do.  If you made commentary do this, it would never get dull.

  • lathareo said June 14, 2009

jellybean3454 my azz in your face....obviously your just a pathetic fanboy on EA's defense, the game sucks and thats my opinion that i'm entitled too jabronie3454 your just up in here talking azz and being an attack dog futhermore you ain't even worth mentioning but I figure you like to be up in shyt so i'ma shyt on you.

Back to the game now, NOOOOOOO creativity whatsoever EA, it's looks terrible its basically a suped Madden' 09 which wasn't that good to begin with, you guys continue to put subpar games out there without hesitation, simply just minor irrelevant adjustments that takes away from authentic gameplay. Ian and others like they choose the stupidess ideas from these boards, things such as different color gloves or stuff to do with appearances which should've been secondary but it seems as if that was you guys primary focus, simply prettying up the game. You guys raised expectations and I fell for it unfortunately...Ian and crew didn't get it done this year, EA needs to spend some corn on creativity because that's the main issue here, EA doesn't thrive to be the best at anything i'm sure you guys motto is "never too much, always too little". I was expecting cutting-edge gameplay and a different gameplay format, you know what I mean? a whole new gameplay...only thing sticks out to me that you guys did is the Wildcat offense, additional accessories, pro-tak and the chain-gang that's it although there's more. I don't see myself enjoying this or playing this game other than online so for you guys who don't game online simply stick with Madden' 09 if you want to experience Madden' 10.

  • warrior310 said June 14, 2009

  • ChitownFan526 said June 14, 2009

Since this is an alpha, hopefully it's not too late to address the real-time lighting issue.  I know there's a difference in how it looks depending on the start time, as in a 1pm game looks different than a 4pm game, but it should change throughout the game as well.  Gameplay looks solid, still a couple of bugs to work out.  The faces??  Not a big deal, but yikes, they're bad.

  • Twister1074 said June 14, 2009

    Ian,

Great job.  It looks as if the game is coming along nicely.  Here are a couple minor bugs or problems I saw.

#1.)  Like the E3 build, the pass rush still needs to be tweaked.

#2.)  The wrong team celebrates after a fumble recovery.  It is a simple fix please look at it before you ship the game.

#3.)  Is it that hard to show players clapping when they break the huddle?  In this build we see players just standing still awkwardly then walking up to the line of scrimmage.  This cut scene is shown over and over again.  Please address this soon.

#4.)  Can you add coats to players or coaches on the sideline?  I saw John Harbaugh walking around in short sleeves when clearly it is freezing outside.  I know it's minor but it will add to the feel of the game.

#5.)  Some of the posts are right, some faces do look off.  Judging by the videos, Kerry Collins looks like a demon with those evil eyes of his.  Might want to gaze over these one more time just to get it right.

#6.)  Your half time show is not all put together and needs more work.  Plus, I saw your extra point show for dynasty and that is joke.  There is no energy from your announcers, no enthusiasm on great plays.  Double check this before shipping.

#7.)  Honestly do we have to see the kicker cut scene every time he kicks an extra point?  After a field goal, I understand you focusing on the kicker...But come on, an extra point means nothing unless it will put you ahead or tie the game in the forth quarter.

That all I have for now.  Keep up the good work.  I can't wait to play the game in August.

  • Twister1074 said June 14, 2009

I found some other small issues you might want to address.

#8.) No offensive or defensive coordinators on the sideline?  Just head coaches and players.  I don't buy that.

#9.) There appears to be no music.  I assume that will be added in the final build.  Might want to consider adding generic stadium music or have the stadium announcer say something.  Just a thought.

#10.) The cut scene with the head coaches walking on the sideline are shown too much.  Give me the coordinators drawing up plays or showing players photos.  It would add variety to the gameplay.

#11.) The outdoor lightning is not correct.  In the first half you can clearly make out that the sun is setting.  Well in the second half it should be completely dark outside.  This is not the case in this alpha build.  Please look over this before it turns gold.

Alright, those are the errors I found with the video.  There were so many good things too that I forgot to mention (ProTrac look solid, animations appeared smoother, graphics are top notch, gang tackles are vastly improved...etc.)

    I hope that helps.

Wow, the commentary and the end of video one sounds terrible.  Joe Flacco has been doing this for years?  How about 1 year? lol and the other announcer is about as bad as you can get....I can already see myself completely turning off the commentary after the first quarter I play of Madden 10

look ian the hell the dogging the game out hell tellim kiss off i dont see nothing that bad at all this is your first year and i no your going to get better now from what i seen is good the only thing that 2k5 have to me that might give u a problem is 2k5 camera angles now your angles look alright but that madden cams. now it a new madden year it time to break outside the box to shut 2k5 up for good is to break outside the box and focus hard on your new camera angles NBA has a side angle and broadcast angle so does NHL and SOCCER games but football is the #1 game in america  and you only have one vision to visualize or should i say 1 angle to view an elite new game like this i no you have 3 different angle but there all in the same place behind the QB 1 close 2 backs of a little 3 wide angle but still behind the QB and if u study ESPN2k5 cam angles they have 3 but that on a PS2 your working with some new tech.... if you no what am saying you got more graphics room to work with more more hi-tech room to work with 2k5 took the PS2 and done all that there should'nt be any problem for you. right now you have the game world in you hand do something  with it much love brother ian cummings

  • gilljon26 said June 14, 2009

  • gilljon26 said June 14, 2009

i no i complain alot but it's only constructive criticism that pro tak is a good ideal but you can only see it working is in instant replay now in sideline angle or custom angles you can see it come in to play so pro tak is a good ideal but the the madden cam sucks with it

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 14, 2009

So everyone hinges their 60 dollars on a HF show.....oh yeah, lets go buy a used game of 2k5 because of the halftime show. Here's whats wrong with 2k5:

EVERY PLAYER runs like they all spent time with Michael Vick--TOO much time. Soap dropping conspiracy...

The 2k5 HF show was put-together. Everyone sees that it uses ESPN. their HF Show, however, is just as robotic as Madden's Collinsworth's Commentary(Not a big fan of Collinsworth in Madden). "DEION BRANCH(used to show they different voice change)..ran a terrific route(A curl) and was able to pull this one in(it was thrown right to him).

These quotezs prove my point, Here is the link: www.youtube.com/watch

TROY BROWN! would come up with the big play to kill a drive as he was able to step in front of a wayward pass....

PATRIOTS! STILL EARLY IN THE FIRST! PATRIOTS! inside the redzone..HUGH DOUGLAS! comes up big here as this balls out(wondering why its out? Berman wont tell you) and he's in the right spot for the recovery..

eagles..MIDWAY THROUGH THE FIRST...EUGENE WILSON! is reading the QBs eyes ALL THE WAY!! as he's able the get his hands on this one and pick it off...

RODNEY HARRISON! was in the right place at the right time as hit INT was a possible momentum shifter

    (This one is the funniest..)

EAGLES! still midway throught the first quarter..THE BALL! at their own 43..RODNEY HARRIS(I really thought it was Harrison..)..shows great awarness here as he gets himself into position to pick this one off..

THE PATS! after getting an interception..PATS! leading by 7..BRIAN DAWKINS!!!reading the QBs eyes all the way as he's ab;e to get his hands on the one and pick it off(didnt he just say that?)

*BTW, remember the music that plays when it first comes on? Yea, it just spontaneously starts and LOOPS over the already playing music..

    you get the point.

Looking very good EA.  Just wanted to mention one thing, and apologies if this has already been touched on.

I'm glad to see you're finally making the crowd audio more believable.  Loved that first Johnson TD with the crowd getting louder as they saw him getting closer to the end zone and finishing even louder when he crossed the goal line.  Despite this, it seems like the crowd has the same cheering reaction after every play.  Rice is dropped in the backfield for a loss of three, the crowd cheers.  This is understandable.  Gage grabs a pass on third down to move the chains, the crowd cheers.  Again, makes sense.  Chris Johnson is tackled after a gain of two on first down, the crowd cheers.  Doesn't make as much sense.

However, this is just a minor thing.  The game is looking great and I cannot wait for 8-14.

Still can't believe madden hasnt caught up the 2k5. Even after 6 YEARS. Tsk tsk...

    Ian and co., YOU FAIL

  • gilljon26 said June 14, 2009

one of the only reason i stop buying madden after 2004 was because of they stop giving us angle to play. in so yea it's a big deal and the half time show is important but even halftime show are in deferent angle mostly broadcast angles. but i'll say this i like 2k5 to but at the same time it's a new time if we want 2k to come back we just for now have to buy the old game and make the new players on it. and far as halftime if the angles were the way they look at halftime i could care let about a halftime show. so when it comes down to halftime show it matters but not like camera angles matter. oyeah 2k5 commentary it get kinda annoying its loops just like any other video game remember it is a video game. madden 10 commentary is good enouph it's not to much it's not over doing it. far as doing better i don't make video games so thats that

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 14, 2009

Hurricane!, calling people out of their name on a blog for video games is NOT cool. Maybe ya hood friends think its cool to LOOK or ACT like a stupid a**, but its really not. Go back to school and learn to construct SIMPLE sentences.

Yes, 2k5 was made in 2004 and 2005. But the point is, you all speak out on 2k5 like it was a great game, when it really wasnt. All Pro Football sucked as it was an EXACT clone on 2k5.

Correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt a 'FIXED" Madden 09 be better? What's bad about fixing a game so you all could STFU? Just sayin...

  • warrior310 said June 14, 2009

you dont have to be "hood" to talk like that.

i hate to see it here so much but please dont stereotype dude.

  • angelseclipse7@yahoo.com said June 14, 2009

Even though I agree with some of what you  said, jwann, you don't know what you are talking about.  All Pro Football was more of a clone of 2k3.

The gameplay was not at all like 2k5.  And obviously the gameplay on Madden 10 is better than a game that was made in 05, but I think what people mean is the presentation, etc.  The weekly show and halftime show, etc. was way better for 2k5 than madden 10.  Also the first person mode and the Crib feature were incredible.

The reason people get frustrated, is because all the people that used to buy the 2k series are now basically forced to buy madden or no nfl game at all.  If EA is going to limit us all to their game (just so they can make more money), they sure better come out with something better than anything we have previously known. 07, 08, and 09 were all failures in doing so (except I kinda liked 09).

All that to say, I think EA is going into the right direction.  This game seems incredible, and I cannot wait for a shot at it.  I still think it will take another year to catch up to 2k5, but the improvement is great.

    Ian, you are the man.

PS: I'm not a 2k fanboy either.  I used to get both games before EA bought the license.  I love 2k as well as EA so I am a neutral source.

    Rating Description

out of 10 click here for ratings guide

    10 Presentation

Quite simply, a sports game has never been this well-presented. This is the poster child for exemplary use of a license.

    9.0 Graphics

This is one handsome football game. Great animations, excellent player models, and cool ESPN integration make this a looker.

    9.0 Sound

Excellent contextual commentary utilizes the ESPN talent to the fullest. On-field sounds and music make it even better.

    9.0 Gameplay

Realistic and fun, packed with modes and features, this is a very complete game. Default difficulty is still too easy.

    10 Lasting Appeal

Can you make $20 stretch further? Online head-to-head and league play, an excellent Franchise mode, the collectible Crib, and cool VIP feature means you'll be playing this one 'til the cows come home.

    9.4

    Outstanding OVERALL

(out of 10 / not an average)

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 14, 2009

HurricaneT, your "rating claim" isnt verifyable. Dude, like everyone--who said it--said which I now agree with, 2k5 was made in, um, 2005!. Therefore, it was a 9.4 during ITS TIME. That's like comparing GTA San Andreas to GTA 4. 4 is next gen while San Andreas was current gen, so saying GTA 4 is a better game than San Andreas really isnt a valid claim. Graphically, yes. But both had different technology at the time, and I would still go buy San Andreas over GTA 4. Just saying, you cant compare the two because they are uncomparable due to the periods they were created. That's like comparing the PS2 to the PS3. I know I sound contracdictive, but all I was expressing earlier is that 2k5's presentation was just as broken then as Madden's could be this year. This was the first year. IT still isnt even perfected, and it wasnt even an initial concern of EA, meaning they didnt have enough time to spend on it.

But hey, I really dont care about HuricaneT and him promoting his computer gang(BTW, I live with and around these people, Im not  really trying to be a stereotypical person. Ive BEEN stereotyped. ITs hard NOT to stereotype(Yes, it is contradictive lol) someone in a certain way when they exhibit stereotypical behavior. Sometimes, its based on race, but most times its based solely on behavior--and the race often makes the stereotypers give a reason as to why they exhibit that behavior).

  • nilsen31@optonline.net said June 14, 2009

The reason for the extreme success of the Titans' running game seems to be that the LBs are getting through the line and attacking the QB...Why is this? it's a running play, they should be sitting back a little more and reading where the play is going...? This seems to be a major problem...the AI isn't attacking running plays like it should...I'd be very upset if every running play ends in at least 5 yards because my LBs are tackling a QB who just handed the ball off.

  • TATMANFISH said June 14, 2009

great vids. im sure your working out the kinks, but i think the rb gets to the edge too easy. also, it doesnt seem like there is very much pressure on the qbs. maybe its just the difficulty setting? saw madden ratings on pastapadre. dont know how accurate they are, but im not too upstet about the ratings changes. everything is fairly accurate. i must do some PR work for my bucs though. mccown is heading into training camp as the starter. it is his job to lose. if he does beat out leftwich, his ovr should be the same/or ever so slightly higher. updates after preseason? also, wilkerson has beat out stylez white(horrible name change) and barring an amazing performance by someone else wilkerson is a lock to start. that being said, one or both of the individuals ratings should reflect that. elbert macks rating should be higher(or biggers lower) because mack is definately ahead of biggers for the nickel spot. talib is now the bucs #1 corner, not barber. talibs ovr could be higher or barbers lower. do you have the bus as a zone blocking team? jim bates style d? will clifton smith be probowl effective on returns?

across the board though, i think the ratings are pretty fair. there are a few minor errors in my opinion. most are just a matter of a few points. the biggest thing is, there are some players that are starters or higher on the depth chart, but have ratings lower than the guys behind them. if someone is higher on the depth chart their ovr should be higher than the players behind them(at least heading into regular season)

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 14, 2009

Oh yeah, look at 2k5 and tell me it was a real "looker"...maybe in 2005 when you couldnt tell me there would be a next gen, but now it's really not. 2k5/AP Football player models look like one of my sh*t turds. Seriously, I think everyone in America has a sh*t turd in this game.

Umm....ok, HurricaneT, obviously you think 2k5 is better? Then why come on a Madden blog? Take you and your sorry, outdated game to a loser 2k5 post and yell "keep 2k5 alive!"

2k5 people complain that all Madden is is a game with roster updates. Isnt that all 2k5 CAN do?

I really dont care. Madden looks AmAZING, and Im definetly buying.

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 14, 2009

TATMANFISH, I like your thinking on the overallys but I have to say onw thing. Just because a guy is starting doesnt mean he's a great, or even good, player. The Ratings are different. Everyone will have to get used to them. I swear, the backup QB for the Bears is a 47! Shocked me a little, but it really seperates the Peyton Mannings from the Joe Schmo's....

Remember, some guys are better in certain spots, making them better.

Some guys NEED to be better for game quality purposes (ex.: T.O.'s speed rating in past games(its an 89 this year, I believe) so he could get by defenders).

Also, there will(OR shoulf be) a roster update right as Madden comes out, usually that day. Might wanna go online to getit.

Lookin good in many ways, BUT...

The camera allways seems to be too much attached to the ball or person being shot. This makes the picture jerk  around really unrealistically and "video game"-like.

This is a feature that has allways harmed the realism effect, you don´t get the feeling you´re watching a game from TV because the real life camera doesn´t move simultaniously with it´s target.

You should fix it so that it feels like theres a camera man behind the camera and he is reacting to the movement of the players, not a straight laser from the ball to the camera which moves the camera.

Hard to explain but you all know what I mean, right?

iTomxP, here are the ratings. I just posted the download link.

    www.sendspace.com/.../q0ijqi

Seriously, I just downloaded them. Pastapadre took them down because EA asked them to, so I suggest you download them while you have a chance. IT literally took me 5 seconds. Its only realy the OVR ratings for every player and the best FAs (Brett Favre not included).

And haha, DeAngelo Hall is a 79, not a 68.

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 15, 2009

mr_pettibone, you are very right. However, you reall dont know the EXACT temperature of the game. I play football, so I know you can muscle out 45-55 degree weather without a coat if its not snowing or raining. That being said, they could have on hoodies at least if its somewhat cold. Break out coats for those November/December games.

Hey Peter, is there any chance that players holding the football with two hands while weaving through would be tacklers will be an animation in Madden 10... Here are a few photos that display how actual NFL players carry the football with both hands on both punt and interception returns.  In my humble estimation, It would be a great animation to see a player like Charles Woodson carry the football with two hands prior to palmng the ball with one hand on an interception return.  Also it would be great as well as to have unbuckled chin straps on one side of certain players helmets helmets.  Please relay this message to Ian, Phil, Raczilla and any other of the Madden development team who could hopefully make these addition to Madden 10

    prior to its August release.

i think some of you missed my point. i wasnt complaining saying my teams players were underrated. i was complaining because the STARTERS WERE RATED LOWER THAN THE BACKUPS!!!!!! how is that possible? if they are starting over other players their OVR should be higher than the guys backing them up! in no way am i saying this guy should be rated higher because i dont know how they will play in this madden. what im saying(agian and again) the starter should be rated higher than the backups! this is my only complaint thus far about the ratings.

    Damn, I can't download the ratings...Did anyone see what's Osi Umenyiora's Rating??

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 15, 2009

BlacHaze84, Osi Umenyiora is a 94. 85 Speed. 92 Acceleration. Justin Tuck is a 95, slightly slower(Like one point or so). Kiwanuka is DL for some reason, he is an 87, 73 Spd but 88 Acceleration(He reaches that 73 Spd quickly). Canty is an 84. Those are their top 4 DLs. Tuck and Osi are their top D players and top 3 team players, behind C. Snee(OL).

  • Big-Reb said June 16, 2009

EA, I really liked the vids.  Game looks great.  When my boys and I get together to play Madden, we have a great time.  Too old to actually play any more, so we all live vicariously through the game.  We've never actually watched a halftime show, so I don't really care about that.  We're too concerned with getting back to the game.  Don't listen to commentary, because we're usually adding our own, with tons of smack talk and the music is always playing.  Never gave a damn of how the players on the sideline looked.  We just enjoy playing this video game.  So gameplay is what matters most to me.  Didn't see anything wrong with the alpha version of the game.  I'm sure it'll tighten up.

I do have features that I would like to see eventually added to the Madden Franchise.  A music player would be a nice addition to the game, giving me the ability to add my own music to the game.  Just like on MLB The Show.

I'd also like to see the defensive players be assigned button icons.  Making it easier and faster to make adjustments and change players assigments prior to the snap.  This is a must have.

And one last thing.  Give the total control back to the gamers.  Players shouldn't be limited as to where they can play.  If I want Urlacher to be my FB, then I should be allowed that access.  And I'll deal with his fatigue issues.  If I want Bears in all blue uniforms, then I should be given that access.  And so on with things of that nature.  Keep up the good work EA, can't wait til Aug.

  • sconn1 said June 16, 2009

Big-Reb says: "Players shouldn't be limited as to where they can play.  If I want Urlacher to be my FB, then I should be allowed that access.  And I'll deal with his fatigue issues."

i must say, i hate this. a player should NOT be allowed to be plugged in anywhere on the field. "fatigue" issues are hardly the issue. the problem is that a player "in real life" could not be plugged into any position, especially one on the opposite side of the ball without practicing the position 1st. when players have been used as 2 way players and such, their training for the new position usually begins in training camp.

does anyone actually think that brian urlacher can instantly learn the 60 or 80 plays in the chicago offensive playbook and know his assignment on each play? or that a widereceiver could do the same on the defensive side of the ball?  really?

at the NFL level, if 1 player misses an assignment, the play has a high potential of being a bust for that team. if a player who was unprepared on the whole playbook was out there in a critical position and had no clue on what to do on each play, i seriously doubt a successful sustained drive could take place. a fluke could take place, but no consistency.

if brian urlacher came in at RB and on a particular play he was to block, does anyone actually think the real urlacher would have the awareness to pick up his assignment at the speed of an nfl game without intensive practice before the game 1st? if his assignment was to run the ball, do people think he can hit the hole, hit the right hole and then know how to avoid being tackled without practicing it 1st?

not to mention, are the bears gonna let a million dollar player be laid to rest because of a gratuitous cheap shot from an opposing linebacker who now has the dream shot of ending brian urlacher, who should be playing defense, but is being an arrogant, cocky jerk trying to play running back.

guys who are qualified to run the ball and know how to play running back get cut from nfl rosters every year. brian urlacher, or any other defensive player in the league play defense for a reason, they are not good offensive players.

there's an old line about defensive players that comes up when they drop an easy int...."that's why they play defense" ...cause if they could catch, they'd be playing offense. most db's and many lb's played offensive positions at lower levels but were weeded out of them and put on the other side of the ball for good reason. and allowing people to gratuiously plug people in and take unfair advantage of an AI rating is the kind of thing that keeps the debate alive on whether madden is a good sim or an arcade farce.

  • sconn1 said June 16, 2009

actually, someone above posted a MOST EXCELLENT idea concerning the 1/2 time show...so it will prob. be ignored, lol....

but the idea was about using the 'backtrack" technology in the 1/2 time show.

simple, and right on the money. i will go out on a limb and say THIS is what people want in a 1/2time show. or as close as can be delivered in a video game.

if they were to actually have "backtrack" highlights from other games (other games in the franchise online or other friends games or other recent opponents games would be massively cool) it would be phenomenal....but just getting some actual analysis and criticism would be 200% better than what is being offered now.

  • Kundich said June 16, 2009

While it looks pretty good, I still have a problem with the number of interceptions (and I have no reason to believe this is anything other than a typical game): 5 total interceptions, 2 returned for a touchdown.  This has been a source of much pain with each iteration of Madden for...well, ever.  Just based on one team, it means 32 INTs in a season!!!

Also, I didn't see but one fumble during the entire game.

I love the pocket and allowing the QB to release, but I also don't recall seeing a sack.  Since these are new features, was this unusual in regards to sacks?

    Thanks,

    ADM

Did anyone else notice what the coaches were wearing? I would think they would've gotten a little chilly....Some of the faces looked ridiculous and the halftime show was disappointing as well but overall I'd rather have great gameplay than flashy presentation (although I'd rather have both obviously). I love that the running game looks better this year where every defender doesn't automatically break his block the second you approach. I'm also very excited that it appears the "unstoppable QB sneak" can now be stopped (unless whoever was playing was just diving right away to make it look that way).

What difficulty was this on? I'm hoping now we can actually average more than 3.4 yards a carry with a good running team on a difficulty higher than rookie.

  • Fredrickal87 said June 16, 2009

    Also - CREATE-A-STADIUM updates/improvements for franchise mode!!!

  • xXtC said June 16, 2009

Hey guys, first off:  Thanks for the video!!!  That was a great surprise.  Here's what I thought:

    1)  The first thing that made me say "WOW" was the crowd noise.  You guys really nailed it.  It picks up at the right times, and I even heard them chanting.  It really helps to immerse you in the game.

    2)  The evening lighting was beautiful.  I know there've been lots of complaints about it not progressing, but I'd rather focus on the fact that the lighting was really stellar.  There was a line straight down the field of where the stadium cuts off the sun, and the players shadows were long in the evening light.  I thought it was really sharp.

    3)  The cut scenes were really cool.  I loved seeing the different fans and coaches and refs.  They weren't perfect though.  I saw Ravens fans not reacting to a big Ravens play.

    4)  The refs were great.  I'm so glad you did more than just make them stand on the field.  I think I got goosebumps when I saw C. Johnson break a big run and the refs ran along the sideline with him.  I think it'd be nice if the refs didn't look so athletic.  And they should fall behind out of breath.  There's no way they should be that close to keeping up with C.J.  I saw the QB throw a bullet straight at a ref, and I swear I saw him duck!  It was great.  I loved the chain gang, and the ref conferences.

    5)  The half-time show was most def the biggest let-down.  If a play is worth re-playing, I'll watch it straight after it happened.  I will NEVER watch a half-time show comprised simply of replays.  The only half-time show I would consistently watch is one comprised of stats.  Even better: Show your progression towards certain records/goals.  I would never skip a halftime show if it said that I had X rush yards at half-time and the record for a single game is Y.  I understand this is a simulation, but it's also a video game, and goals are one of the largest driving forces in games.

    6)  I like the play selection screens.  I think they could be better, but I couldn't tell you how.  I just like the fact that you changed it.  I think changing the menu's and screens should happen every year with Madden, b/c that's the easiest way to keep it from feeling like an iteration of the same game.

    7)  I have no beef with the commentators.  I hardly pay attention to them anyway.

    8)  The pass-blocking was amazing!  I saw an actual pocket!, and the QB didn't need to do a 10 yard drop.  The branching AI really paid off in this respects.  This completely changes the feel of the passing game.  And I like how the QB threw a duck when struck mid-throw.

    9)  I could see you guys really pushed to make momentum real.  I saw C.J. hit from the right and stumble left, and then got hit again from the right and it completely changed his direction.  It looked perfect.  I saw a pile-up, which got destroyed by a linebacker who came flying across the screen.  And I saw a WR stumble after trying to keep his feet in-bounds.  Balance/momentum really makes the game feel real.

    10)  Squib kick was f'n great!

Sorry if it sounds like I'm sucking up, but I thought I'd throw in a little positive to go with all of these losers who *** and moan but offer no constructive criticism.  I think the game looks great and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Keep up the good work!!!!!

    T.C.

  • npkelly said June 16, 2009

great post. the gameplay looks great. it still feels a little like 09, but with better blocking and gang tackling. the presentation's great. really adds a lot to the game. but halftime was a little lame. better then nothing, but lame. maybe shorten it, or add more commentary to fill in long gaps. are the sideline shots going to be fixed? because that wasn't collins or flacco on the phone...lol. good to see the efforts though. keep it up. man i really can't wait til august now. lol.

  • aj12392610 said June 16, 2009

The halftime show is a joke and is really a waste of time.

The big problem with madden is that they made the offenses more advanced than the defenses... so the defense can dictate a game.

also their are no real run fits in the game so the defensive players just go to where the ball is and do not play gaps.

Madden needs dline stunts like 2k had to further evolve the game play on defense.

big plays should happen because of a better play call by the offense or the defense not merely because one guy is faster than the others. like when Chris Johnson hits the outside run and gains big yards because the outside backer or end doesn't contain due to the lack of run fits.

the game play seems too open not very often in the NFL are running backs running free like Chris Johnson. just ask Reggie bush. The defense needs to pursue the ball better and with more intelligence.

Forcing the ball outside or back inside does not exist for a defense in madden

and CPU take a sack rather than throw a pick please

  • skeet90 said June 16, 2009

Next year you guys should just look at a recording of an actual NFL game, and copy everything involving presentation exactly as it is; pregame, opening kick off,the scoreboard, the nfl robots, the annonuncer's voices with some level of emotion on exciting plays, halftime, some of the half time show, postgame, everything. Come september, sit down, watch a game, and take notes. Then have your team duplicate it.

The gameplay's fine. it takes a real lot of time and technology to fix every little flaw in it. It's still fun to play. The presentation, though, should look exactly how you want it to, like a real sunday game.

  • gilljon26 said June 16, 2009

i want a see broncos vs chargers

  • Mr_Alaska1986 said June 17, 2009

Skeet, I agree with your comment but the issue is that NFL games are held on multiple networks( FOX, NBC, NFL network, ABC.) Each network differs in presentation so EA would need to either pick one and mirror it, or invest A LOT of time to incorporate each network's presentation. ESPN fans, please shut the hell up because not everyone watches ESPN before a football game starts and the MAJORITY of the time a football game isn't even on ESPN so they shouldn't get the majority of the publicity here. The ESPN presentation IS NOT the only presentation out there.

  • Kbaseball13 said June 17, 2009

you know what all douches out there that think that this game sucks already should just keep your mouth shut because if you don't like how the game looks then don't pay any attention to it. So don't complain about how bad something looks or how they hardly did anything to the game because if the listened to every idiot that thought they knew something the game would be even worse. So anyone that wants to complain about the game should just shut up because either one don't what you are talking about or two you are just mad because you suck at madden.

Warrior, you have a real problem. You are a real antagonizer. EVERY single post you get in arguments. You post an idea and someone critisizes it and you go off on them. You say that you have great ideas... How modest, let someone else decide that? If your ideas are so great, so revolutionary, how  come they are not in the game? How come people ALWAYS tell you to shut your mouth? Because the majority of people don't like you :D I really hate to be a jerk but seriously? They can make touch ups on the face and what not. You always complain without giving a solution. And you haven't given them props for stuff they have done. If you really hate Madden so much, don't play it. Obviously you have 2k5 so just play it. I know Madden can do more but they don't. So what? It is better to have something than nothing. I bet you will say "I don't want to spend 60 dollars for crap". Don't!??! You have the "superior" game in 2k5, play it. Instead you spend 60 dollars on Madden and you end up enjoying it.

Chill the **** out, they got this (Barack Obama speaking on Tiburons behalf)

  • A Hot Man Beast said June 19, 2009

Now I would like to point out some things I saw :)

    1) Chris Johnson is the fastest guy in the NFL and can burn everyone by a mile. I saw him get chased down from behind in the 1st quarter when he should have scored a TD. Also when he scored a TD he was chased down from behind and almost tackled at the goal line. He should have a bit more brake-away in my opinion.

    2) The punting/kicking game still is weird. The longest punt in that game was 44 yards! I have seen punters boot 65+ yarders before. That definately needs to be revamped. Idk about the field goals because he only kicked one. I could only get like 52 yard FG's in 09.

    3) I love that the crowd is somewhat responsive. They get amped up when the teams start the play. BUT the crowd doesn't get hyped when their team gets a big play and they aren't booing when a dumb penalty is thrown. I would love to see some more cutscenes though. They should have a better variety of fan cutscenes though. They most amped I saw someone is when he was holding up the "D-Fence" sign. Show people getting buck wild or show them pissed off like never before. Orrrr even have like a camera going over a big crowd of people and all of them doing something for the camera. Also with the cutscenes, fans were sad at their team making a big play. lol

    4) I didn't notice any receiver straffe, that makes me sad :( Washington was going for a ball in the 2nd quarter and did that stupid little slow run when he could have straffed and caught the ball. A big missed opportunity.

    5) This is just a reiteration of what everyone is saying. Half-Time show = GARBAGE. I appreciate the effort and all but your effort blew. The half-time show could at least have a bit of commentary on the plays. If you want to be a sim, you should have realistic halftime/postgame presentation. 2K5 did something good with their halftime show. I would love to see the scores from other games. I would love to see highlights from other games. I would love to hear some commentary. Nothing cheesy though.

    6) I like the fact that DB's can actually run with the ball when they pick it off. BUT as everyone noticed, the DB still runs like a duck with the ball.

    7) I don't want to get indepth with the run game but one thing needs to be pointed out. Lets see some CUT moves. I saw a little bit of something like that in game but I was not impressed. There were two major instances where a cut move would have made a game changing impact. One of those was in the 3rd quarter when Chris Johnson was high-tailing it down the field and had one man to beat. If C.J. would have been able to cut he would have scored but he lowered his shoulder so the defense got him. I cannot remember the second instance :/

    8) One of my pet peeves in 09 was interceptions. I hear people all of the time talking about how it is too easy to make interceptions, bull. Almost everytime an easy interception came my way, my player dropped it. I don't care how bad of hands you have, if a ball floats into your hands, you are going to catch it. In 09, easy interceptions were dropped while impossible interceptions were snagged with ease. That seems to be fixed, I am not sure though. One incident I saw was with 35 seconds left, A DB got his hands on the ball.... And dropped it... The DB dropped the easy INT... Bologna! Also, I hate when a receiver is running upfield for a ball, and the DB come from the opposite direction, picks it off, and the receiver makes the tackles. It is like the receiver magically wasn't running and the DB had no momentum. This happened to Ed Reed with 35 seconds left in the game. Please fix?

Overall, I love what you are doing with the game and can't wait to see more. Please listen to everyones suggestions because apparently you aren't listening to a thing we say (Warrior310)

I've been playing my 2k5 the last couple of nights and I had forgotten how good of a game it really was.  I knew I always preferred the 2k series when it was running, but I couldn't remember why until a couple of nights ago.  The game was great and had an awesome presentation.  The pregame, halftime, and postgame shows were great (even had a postgame interview with the player of the game) and the sportscenter weekly show with league highlights and scores was awesome.  That being said, I have bought Madden every year since b/c I love the NFL and I can't go without playing an NFL videogame.  Madden has done some great things, especially with graphics, and they have been improving gameplay in recent years.  They still need to work on presentation and they could really take some hints from 2k, but at least they are trying.  Ok, the halftime show isn't the best but it should be better by next year or even this year if they take the time to enhance it before the game ships out.  Jeff Fisher looked awesome by the way, even down to his handlebar mustache.  I could complain about the things Madden could do better, but I know that I'll buy it every year as long as they have the only NFL license so what's the point of b!tchin?

  • GdubWolff33 said June 24, 2009

Man this looks great!  You guys have really listened to your fans and implemented almost everything we have asked for.

One thing that I noticed however, the cut scenes in between each play are repetitive, especially with the coaches.  My opinion is that you should show more interaction on the actual field instead of just the sidelines and stands.  Maybe if there's a big hit call an animation for the defending tackler and the player who just got mauled to have a little scuffle and get in each others face.  Or if a WR drops a ball call for the qb and that wr to have a discussion.  And maybe the type of qb determines what type of cut scene you call.  If he is a total douche (ahem Jay Cutler), you can have them arguing and have the qb give the poor wideout a mouthful.  And if you have a strong leader have him calm down the receiver.  That and more players arguing with the refs on calls and other on field action would make this game unbelievable!  But I am very impressed, much more so than any year madden has came out since the release of the current gen.

I'm concerned being a Ravens fan they are a great organization and a deep solid well drafted team, but they don't have "headlining" offensive superstars.  They now have, maybe the best O & D line in football, and are so complete in all three aspects of the game.  There running attack with 4 very good running backs I think will be one of the best running back cores in all of football.  Did the Madden translate that into this game?  I'm not so sure.

I've seen the ratings they are very low.  Guys like Landry a 71 coming off injury a very good SS, deserved much higher over 80 in years past. Then a guy like McClain gets a 92, he's an excellent player, but that's way too high, Rice & McGahee are going to have HUGE years this year, barring injury, McClain is going back to FB.  Joe Flacco a measley 81, a superior QB to Tony, media loved, Romo, 87?!  TheCowboys got killed by the Ravens this year in Dallas, yet the team is a 85 to the Ravens 82, answer...Headlines.

The game looks great and hopefully the PS3 Madden 09 glitchy Madden game is gone, but it apears my Ravens who finished top 4 last year, only the SB champs looked better received a fair shake by the Madden team.  I would bet right now that the Ravens have the best 53 man roster complete in the NFL.  Just solid all the way through, but they don't have headline players so they are punished.  Look at the Cowboys Romo is not as good a QB as first year rookie Joe Flacco yes he's a 87 compared to Flacco at 81, Roy Williams is slow & tall with great hands 84?  He's not a 80 or above player.  He makes headlines and he's on the media darling Cowboys so he gets a 84.

Will the ratings be adjusted at all over the year, nope.  Just rosters updated and rearanged with injury and trades.  When the Cowboys lose and the Ravens keep winning, Madden won't make adjustments.

I'll have to hope for a 2011 team that reflects the Ravens better.  They are clearly living in the Steelers shadow in the NFL and in this game.  They are forgotten by Madden.  I have this game on order, but I be smarter to wait for 2011 and hope the Ravens get a fair shake from Madden that reflects there talent pool better.

Again with the 2K5 comparison.  I played that game, it's greatness is overrated and prehistoric.

The Ravens are clearly not translated by Madden from the NFL.  The overrated media darling Cowboys are a 85 to the Ravens 82, Romo a 87 to Flacco at 81? Romo is overrated, he has is a hot girlfreind and a quick release, he is not an elite QB in the NFL or are the Cowboys who the Ravens easily handled in Big D, yet they have 80 plus stars all over there rosters and the Ravens are grasping for respect.

I challenge you to find a deeper, better roster in the NFL than the Ravens, no maybe not superstars but 1 to 53 the best team in the NFL.  All three criteria offense, defense, and special teams are loaded.  They have the best O & D lines in the NFL.  Is any of this translated to this game?  Could be the best RB core in the game...McClain, McGahee, Ray Rice, Cedric Peerman, who's got a better RB core than that?

Madden looks great, hopefully the glitchy game of Madden on on the PS3 is gone, but why should I buy the game if the Ravens the only team I want to use aren't translated properly?  Maybe next year Madden will remember that the Ravens are one of the best teams in all of the NFL.

That was a terrible red zone trip on the 4th Video you used QB dive 3 times and whoever was in the tight end slot when you did the rollout was open on the flat route.... anyways the game looks great good job.
