Madden NFL 10 Franchise Mode improvements part 2 (Q & A)

Posted On: Jun. 16, 2009 10:39 AM EST By: EA_JoshLooman 404 Comments

Hey Madden fans!
I’m Josh Looman, senior designer for Madden NFL 10 and the guy who had the privilege of tuning franchise mode this year. I thought I’d sit down and answer a lot of the questions I’ve received about franchise mode and the changes we made this cycle. As I’ve mentioned before (in this blog), my goal was to clean up the logic and get this mode back to where it needed to be. I’ll repeat my favorite analogy for those of you who haven’t heard it before: If you found out you had termites in your house, would you build on another addition or clean up the foundation so that you could build on the house in the future? That was exactly our attitude and my sole focus since I joined the Madden team halfway through the development cycle. I enlisted the help of one of my top programmers from NFL Head Coach ’09 (Jeff Keyek) and worked with the rest of the Madden team to address many of the core aspects of the mode that really needed fixing.

There have been a ton of questions posted out on the forums that I wanted to answer, but first off I wanted to talk about one key addition to Franchise mode, which was a total overhaul to the overall interface and flow of the mode. We learned on NFL Head Coach ’09 that a career mode is a lot more fun to play when you don’t force people to go dig for common information every week. Surfacing these key pieces of info streamlines the experience and allows you to get what you need at a glance and advance to next week. We felt that one major issue with the previous Franchise experiences was just that it didn't feel alive. The Franchise hub was designed primarily with the one-player experience in mind...a one-stop shop to play games, watch "The Extra Point" recap show, and jump to top news around the league (though it's important to note the multi-player experience is just as streamlined through new league & team schedule screens). Here is a quick look at the Franchise "hub" - the home screen of sorts for your entire Franchise:

Now we can compare that to Madden NFL 09:

Also, here's a demo of "the hub" in action in an interview I did at E3 with our very own Carlos Navarro from the EA Sports Live team. Forgive my voice breaking up...E3 consists of a lot of shouting. :)

So that's enough talk about the core improvements to the flow - on to the questions...

Q:  Has trade logic been improved? Will I still be able to trade for Matthew Stafford even though the lions just drafted him 1st overall and made him their franchise player?
A:  Trade logic has been improved. It’s much harder to trade for good players or very high draft picks now. In the case of Matthew Stafford, the logic assigns him a trade value which becomes his worth in the game. Since he’s young and he’s yet to reach his potential, they increase that worth and essentially inflate his overall rating in trade negotiations. I’m sure you could swing a trade for him if you offered Peyton Manning, a first round pick, Bob Sanders and a pineapple upside down cake, though. :)

Q:  Do CPU teams value their Draft Picks more than before?
A:  Yes, they do. In the past, you could trade for the #1 pick by offering up something like the 15th overall pick and a 3rd rounder. We tuned it so that you have to offer up much more to get high draft picks now.

Q:  Has there been more focus put on where a player wants to play in free agency?
A:  Yes. I spent a lot of time tuning this over the past few months. I wanted to make sure that it would be harder to convince marquee free agents to play for the Lions, for instance. In Free Agency or in the Re-Signing stage, players will expect more money to sign or re-sign with a struggling team. If you’re Detroit and you want to sign a 90 overall free agent, you will need to pay him much more. If you’re New England, he may play for his expected salary or slightly less.

Q:  Will players be able to become coaches after their retirement?
A:  Yes. We even tuned this so that there’s a greater chance that retired players come back as coaches sooner this year.

Q:  Since two-back systems are in vogue, will running backs split carries a la Carolina, Tennessee, etc.?
A:  Yes. This is all determined by the RB sliders in your coach options. We have logic that determines how carries will be split later on in franchise. If you have two 90 overall running backs, they will split carries.

Q:  How often does progression take place and will season performance effect it? (yearly, quarterly, every game, etc.)
A:  All of the tuning this year was done to make the progression system from ’09 playable. Last year, players rarely progressed and if they did, they didn’t go up much. We fixed those problems and I’m seeing what I expect when I get to the offseason after having good seasons with my players. In the future, we’ll look into using a progression system similar to the one we used in NFL Head Coach ’09. It allows for more flexibility than the system we’re working with now.
To answer your question:
Season performance has a huge impact and progression happens in the offseason.

Q:  How much does potential matter vs. production for progressing players?
A: Potential matters because it ultimately decides if a player has reached their ceiling or not while production is important since it determines if your player’s attributes increase or decrease. So I’d say that they matter equally.

Q:  Has anything been done to the logic to stop players from retiring too early?
A: Yes. The retirement logic has been tuned so that less 30-34 year old players with a higher overall rating retire. You’ll still see players retire, but if they’re any good, they’ll stay around a little longer.

Q:  How many different draft classes are there and how many extra undrafted players will there be on average?
A: There are 32 different draft classes that contain around 250 players each. That means about 30 players will go undrafted in each class.

Q:  How will the scouting process work for rookies pre-draft and how is it different from the last few iterations of Madden or similar to HC?
A: Scouting is different than it was in ’09. This year you pick the players you want to scout and each week a piece of information is unlocked about them. At first, the information will be a bit vague. You’ll see comments like, “His awareness is less than an 80.” Once you scout the player a few more weeks, you’ll clear up the vague comments and see something along the lines of, “Ok, we’re sure that his awareness is a 76.”
This will help you get a total picture of the player. Since you also have an idea of what his potential is, you can combine the information to determine if the player has high potential and if he’s able to be more than a project. Just because a player has high potential doesn’t mean that he’ll be a productive player for a while. You may draft players in the 7th round with high potential but they’ll come in at 59 overall. So it could take years for them to be ready to play significant roles. If you do your homework, you can find the Marques Colston’s of the Draft. Players with high potential and high overalls that can contribute right away. I spent a lot of time tuning the draft classes so that there are really busts and gems in the draft now. You may draft a LT who comes out at 80 overall but has a potential of 81. Or you may draft a QB in the 6th round who has a 99 potential and a 78 overall rating ala Tom Brady.

Q:  Is there a noticeable difference between regular season and playoff games?
A: Yes. Ian and the presentation team did a lot of great things to make sure that the playoffs felt different than the regular season. I’m not going to spoil them for you, but I have a feeling your jaws are going to drop when you see some of the things we have in store.

Q:  Has anything been done to fix the scheduling logic? Will we still see teams with 4 straight Monday night games or open the season with a 6-game road trip?
A: This has been fixed by the guy I mentioned above...Jeff Keyek. He fixed some weird logic issues that were causing scheduling anomalies.

Q:  Will coaches effect progression? For example it seemed like the Ravens and Steelers could draft LBer after LBer and most of them would become at least solid players.
A: Coaches, especially elite coaches, do impact a player’s ratings in Franchise Mode. Coaches like D. LeBeau will give a constant increase to certain player ratings in-game and when games are simmed, effectively making players on their team better all the time. You can see the impact they make in the player management screen. You’ll notice a little plus sign and a number next to the ratings they are increasing.

Q:  How are the draft classes, are they the same classes from Headcoach?
A: The draft classes are my favorite thing about franchise mode this year. They are different from Head Coach (some old HC favorites were carried over) but they were all hand created like they were there. I created lots of different types of players, too. Run Stopping DEs vs. Pass Rushing DEs, big bruising backs vs. scat backs, etc. I think you guys will have a blast trying to find the hidden gems and living with the busts. I can’t you how satisfying it is to turn a team around like I did when playing a few seasons with the Bengals. I couldn’t run the ball at all with Cedric Benson for 17 games in year one. I got into the offseason and found a RB in the 3rd round that immediately ignited my running game in year two. I made the playoffs and that kid won rookie of the year.

Q:  Will you marry me?
A: No. :)

Q:  Will it be fun enough to play more than 2 seasons?
A: Yes. And that was my goal this year!

Thanks for all of the questions and the positive feedback so far. I look forward to working with Phil, Ian, Donny and the rest of the team to bring you guys the best version of Madden every year! You guys are the most passionate fans and we love that about you.

    Thank you!

Also, I was hoping to hear about "train active team", is it in or out?

This stuff is incredible. If I can avtually draft gems in the game, this will make franchise fun... now I just have to get enoguh courage to start a Lions franchise.

YA WHAT ABOUT THE TRAINING CAMP

  • Rockercell said June 16, 2009

Thanks for this.. I was hoping that some more info would come out about the offline franchise. This is def my favorite mode in Madden. Madden 10 should be the best football game in awhile.

  • Bee Rockwell said June 16, 2009

    Hey Josh,

Thanks for the franchise update. I know a bunch of us love to play that mode more than any other, and all this info is very, very encouraging. I had one quick question regarding The Extra Point highlight show: I know there are highlight packages for your game, but are there watchable highlight packages for every game during your typical weekly schedule? I know that for most fans, the appeal is being able to see highlights with some kind of background commentary. If it's just the weekly schedule, or stats from the games, I know it'll be disappointing.

Any and all info regarding The Extra Point and video would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

nice...i was wondering if the computer will finally give users trade offers..like during the offseason and draft...just like real life...i really hope this is in the game...the nba 2k series got it so why cant madden 10...and i hope that u can talk players out of retirement..or dat they come out of retirement like brett farve did twice..lol

  • vaibhavp3 said June 16, 2009

josh loo man your great man, i have been waiting for improvement to the franchise mode. i wasn't going to buy madden 10 because i thought it doesn't have enough depth, but now i changed my mind, I'm going to get madden 10 for sure. also i think train active team should be taken out because it makes the game less realistic e.g i made Maurice-Jones-drew a 99 truck rating, also 99 speed so he was unstoppable.

  • iToMxP said June 16, 2009

will there be training camp now like how it was in previous maddens before we went "next gen" ? and i hope there is because that was one of my favorite parts, just seeing people go up into a starter role over the offseason was fun. teams do it all the time and we should be able to also. i hope there are tons of FUN ,minigames because i always like to do these with my friends because its just as competitive as a game for us. but the minigames really sucked the last 2 years. i hope they have some creative ideas like one-on-one drills, position drills, basically everything from the combine. then 3-on-3 drills 5on5 7on7 and finally 11on11. i hope the entire training camp feeling is there too. people pushing for starting jobs, tough fights for a job and if its really tight, it will endm up making both players better, but if one guy wins by a landslide, then he should be rewarded points accordingly and the loser should lose points(ovr and position specific)

  • Sppash101 said June 16, 2009

I got a question is the rookie rating going to be insane if you import a draft class from ncaa 10 and will drafting for cpu teams be for their needs or they just draft on standard format?

  • Rockercell said June 16, 2009

Sppash101 I think that was answered in part one.

  • ronnymund said June 16, 2009

Thanks for the update, I just hope that Madden 10 still falls under the "work in progress" catagory because there are more elements I hope to see added to the Madden 10 roster before its August release.  In years past the madden development team has possted early screen shots in June and attached the work in progress moniker to the title, but when the game was released two months later nothing had been added to the original video/screen shot release.  This year I see that producers like Ian and Phil Fraizer have made signifigant improvments to original gameplay release for Madden and I hope the improvments continue to be maded up until the last possible minute.  Some of the improvments I hope to see include an option for high/low white socks in the player edit section, an option for having an unbuckled chin strap on one side of the players helmet, and finally I hope to see wideouts and db's catch the football with two hands away from their body and carry the football with two hands on the ball down the field before either palming the ball with one hand or tucking it away in a conservative manner.

  • sconn1 said June 16, 2009

it was brought up in the last conversation and i'd like to repeat it here...make the halftime show / extra point broadcast have "backtrack" stuff in it.

    simple, and on point.

  • EdgeZion007 said June 16, 2009

Great job Josh!!!! these are the types of improvements that fans needed after the last couple dissapointing franchise modes...the only thing i disagree with is progression, i think players should show some progression/regression about halfway through the season  as well as the offseason, especially if they are injured. how many times have we seen an elite player injured and not be able to come back as strong the rest of the year i.e. (kellen winslow). just my opinion and really my only gripe

Im a big online gamer. (top 100 last year) And the big problem i had was playing the CPU was boring. I would turn the skill as high as it would go. (past all madden) and i would still blow the CPU out. And with online franchise I don't know if I will play it this year. ( its been 2 years since i played a full season. on madden 06, I went to 23 years. Soo i would like to get back into it. with the draft sounding nice. BUT PLEASE MAKE ALL MADDEN BE DAM NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT.

ONLINE SUCKED LAST YEAR B?C TOP 100 PLAYERS WOULD FREE WIN OR BUM HUNT>

YOU GUYS TALK ABOUT MAKING MADDEN SIM. BUT ARE YOU DOING ANYTHING TO STOP PEOPLE FROM FREE WINNING. PLAYING LEVEL ONES ALL YEAR??????

  • SLAVEMASTER14 said June 16, 2009

Good to hear, I and I'm sure most madden players play the franchise mode more than anything and to have a great and deep mode makes all the difference. One thing I would love to hear you guys mention is a player/player rating system. A system that allows great players to mentor and develop young players and make their impact sooner. Like Chris Carter did with Randy Moss, and Jerry Rice did with TO. The previous veteran system was very ineffective and did not help much, I would love to see team leaders make a difference as well. Other than that super improvement guys. BRING ON THE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Josh,

Great work.  I also am concerned about the "Train Active Team" or equivalent feature in this year's franchise mode.  If it does exist, is it an improvement over the old system?  Also, can you add point to a player after they've reached their preset maximum potential?  I think this feature is important because it adds another RPG element to Franchise mode, which is just a much more athletic version of any other role playing game, except instead of spells an magic and ***, you get to knock the snot out of virtual professional athletes.  My guess is that there is very little now that can be done to the in-box version of franchise mode aside from minor performance tweaks, but will you be supervising the server side of online franchise?  Will you be able to add team members to develop that while you work to improve next years build?  Or will you be working on another Head Coach game and abandon Madden 11?  If there are improvements to online franchise throughout the year, as suggested, will update patches be available to match the offline version, or will players have to run a franchise online by themselves in order to utilize the newest Franchise features?  I doubt another Q&A session will be coming from you personally, so most of these will likely go unanswered.  My contention, for what its worth, is that 1. An entire new team of developers is added to maintain online franchise mode.  2. You remain with the Madden franchise, and continue to build additions on your termite infested home and turn it into the fucking Taj Mahal.  3. However unlikely, it would be nice to see one or two franchise updates before Madden 11 ships, if only in good faith, so everyone knows what you guys are really all about: a damn good football game, instead of a "copies sold" spreadsheet.

  • xXtC said June 16, 2009

I'm so grateful for these improvements to the franchise mode.  I most def spend the greatest amount of time playing franchise, and the renovated system looks to be completely fresh.  I really like the new hub.  And I love the relevant league news!!!  You should have a section which puts your player's stats up against the league leaders.  Gamers love goals, and beating Tom Brady and Peyton Manning for pass yards week by week would be a lot of fun.  It could show top rookies, and maybe even show your players' progression towards NFL records for games/seasons/careers.  Just my 2cents.  Love the updates guys!  keep them coming!!!!

  • JCash624 said June 16, 2009

anyone know if the ncaa imported draft classes going to be as "fun" as josh says the hand crafted madden ones are? i like importing from ncaa dynasty but i hope i dont miss out on some cool tweaks to the draft

My Last comment i was so happy at what I saw at E3 until u posted this blog. all the stuff all the stuff u said about the game logic is the same thing that was said last year, on madden 09 i did 3 seasons after that it was jus lame, the new menus and the extra point thing looks good but will it be consistent every year, on ncaa 09 I made it to 2017 and I'm still into to it I not going to stop playing that until ncaa 10 comes out. I'm praying that franchise mode is rite this year, i haven't played more than 3 seasons since madden 06 on ps2, on ps3 it hasn't been worth it. there should also be a option were u can try to change a players mind about retiring, like on college u can try to get the player not to leave your school early.

  • swillz13 said June 16, 2009

i just hope that this year the game has some really good authenticity like the players actually look like themselves and wear the gear like the actually where like marion barber, thomas jones, deangelo williams will look like them selves and have the mouthe piece that they wear( and we should be able to give it to our guys as well)

    www.unlockedsports.com/.../marion_barber.jpg

also what about eye black?? can we get that for our created characters to??

  • jellybean3454 said June 16, 2009

i like what i hear sounds great cant wait

  • Badluck90 said June 16, 2009

sounds great looks like you are really turning around franchise mode.

i have an important question that i hoped to be answered in a future update.

in the blog you said that now you couldn't just trade for the 1st overall pick using the 15 ovr and a 3rd round pick which sounds great.

Now are we finally going to be able to trade for future picks? it happens all the time..... just ask belichick

  • Maxtion Hero said June 16, 2009

Sounds like a lot of great improvements!

One concern I have surrounding pre-rendered draft classes is eventually everyone knowing who is who; who are busts, who are gems, etc. Won't think kind of information kill online franchise? How is this type of problem going to be prevented?

I am also curious about the drills; the dash and bench press drills are horrible and not fun at all. Hopefully they have been removed or at least changed.

Thanks for all the great work!

  • jb8108 said June 16, 2009

are there going to be comp picks

  • JobbDad said June 16, 2009

can't wait to see/hear more about the draft. the draft (and the leadup) was far and away the best part of Head Coach and would be a welcome upgrade in Madden.

  • CAMREN630 said June 16, 2009

like i saud this ame will be good only thing i would like to see added is highlights from other games if this can get added before or after the release of the game that will make madden 10 great.

  • jellybean3454 said June 16, 2009

did anyone hear about the news if u pre order madden 10 now from gamestop you'll get a demo and get to play the whole super bowl over with the steelers vs. cardinals

i know one thing i'm going 2 go pre order it 2morrow i cant wait 2 play that demo and plus its all 4 quarters each 5 minutes

  • pookman64 said June 16, 2009

This game looks 100% better than last year when I actually turned in my Madden 09 for PS3 and took a Madden 09 PS2 version to play instead - simply because Franchise Mode was that much better on the previous machine - that just should not happen!!

I sincerely hope the one thing that you guys fix is that for online franchise you incorporate the cool aspects of free agency and the salary cap that you spoke about - that is an absolute necessity if online franchise is going to work.  Please, please, please fix that one!!

I also liked in the previous years additions how players could progress/regress during a season and how post-season perfomances weighed heavily on a player's rating.  Any intention of adding that?

  • UnfairDesert said June 16, 2009

I was just wondering, will us madden faithful ever see a practice team in Madden or am i being to far-fetched. I mean. all of the Baseball games have minor league teams! Here's what i think it will do to madden; it will make it more interesting. It will also enable you to sign players to your roster if your in a jam cuz T.O just got injured or sumthin like that. Please comment mi back becus ive been asking the same question and still i get no answers!!!!

::::Today on espn I just saw the stats on some of the top position players in madden 10. 2 things im glad to see. Nnamdi is a top defensive player. Make Him really shut the oposition this year! and Zach miller a top TE. My Huge Concern. ZACH Millers Speed is WAY TOO SLOW. Zach has the speed of a WR. My Proof is the week 4 game VS SD chargers. Zach Burns SD for 63 Yards. He MATCHES "SPEED" STEP FOR STEP with Ronald curry and Ashley Lelie and also the speedy Justin Griffith whom should aslo recive a speed boost. Heres the Video Link.....  www.nfl.com/.../Zach-Miller-Highlight-WK-04-vs-Chargers-2008

:::Since you guys at EA are Listening to Community this year. I think this is something that must be fixed. I also dont like how there are some Running Backs with slower 40 times than darren McFadden are Running Faster then he is in Madden. I.E. Felix Jones, Jamaal Charles etc. Every since you brough his speed down the Offense with DMAC has diminished. he Vendetta and against the raiders continues. This year you need to make accurate speed Judgements and not bring speeds up or down during the season. Quit cheating for the somehow 97 Overall rated cowboys and felix jones 98 speed BS.

As Requested Again and again. This year Were looking for Presentation and Accuracy.

:::Team Socks::: Either High whites, low Colors, Full soccer colors, or Normal team stripes. We dont want to see tape wrapped above the Calf of a player. You did it in NCAA 09. it needs to be in Madden.

:::Create-A-Team::: Should Be the Exact Same Way this year as it is in College. The new feature with customer Logos is great. For madden this year it should be there not only in Create a Team but also like in ps2/xbox days we should be able to use this feature for Franchise mode as well. Ive been dying to hook up the raiders  with new uni's. The only Problem back then was we couldnt have the current NFL logo appear on the team helmet which defeated the Point. This feature from NCAA 10 NEEDS TO BE IN MADDEN 10.

::: Create a player::: Separate the Face and the hair on head and facial hair. teh heads you have are cool, but it should still be like ps2/xbox versions especially since you guys are showing heads in game this year.( Ever Consider the game face feature for madden)(by the way if you could pass on to people who work on tiger woods. Im a dark black guy. I take a picture for game face and come out red or light skinned in the game. lol Dark black people play golf to you know.)

:::All Jersey types and Stripes::: should be available in Create a team/ Create and jersey this year. From the Miami, VT, New Jaguars Jerseys, to the stripe types of the atlanta falcons and Eagles and custom strips for chargers. Or Like Oregon. Lets be able to Say the team name down the leg for something Different. You Have accurate Nikes in NCAA. There Should be Accurate Reeboks in Madden and Add more shoes. Even though the NFL is Exclusive to reebok and the Nikes and Under Armors to the game. Because Its a GAME. Set it up Like Live with all kind of shoes. Steve smith, santonio Holmes, and Reggie Bush wear DIfferent shoes. Hook us up.

::: One thing somehow forgotten in madden last year when creating a Jersey. Did we forget to add Number Outlines. YES WE DID. The Jerseys didnt look authentic enough to be in the game. There should be a need to have not only one outline but two Outlines for the numbers just like the SD CHARGERS. The Ability to have the team name accross the chest like the AZ Cards is cool too.The Color of shoes. white, black or team colored. You've added towels to the game which add presentation but the purpose in this game is to swish left and right. You can definently add these to the game.

:::Player Progression.::: Im just hoping if im able to make jamarcus Russle throw 37 touchdowns and 10 INTS His accuracy rating and awareness jumps accordingly. None of this 3 points for accuracy the first year then 1 point on awareness every year after. Same for Every Position accordingly as well.

::: IN the passing game:: Deep passes we should be able direct the Reciever away from the defender in one on one coverage. So Many times ive had my outside recievers alone with a defender on the outside and All Relistically that would need to be done is a lob (Reguardless of accuracy of the QB used) to the Middle to a speedy WR would have a 50/50 Chance of getting. Hitting Up+left or up+right to the middle and it does nothing is Rediculous. This is something that part of the game and should be in this One.

::: As an offensive player and Frequent User Catch player, we should still be able to strafe and turn around to get the ball. Why would you take that out. The Defender automatically has the advantage with that gone. Bring it Back please.

:::Lead Passing::: It needs to be tuned a bit to be more accurate with all QB's some times it just doesnt Work.

:::QBS like CUTLER, RUSSELL AND FARVE.::: Throw exremely Hard passes and the speed of the ball should reflet that in game. Also those types of QB's can throw 80+ yards. Russell is the strongest and can thrown 70 off balance. Its been seen by everybody and it cannot be denied. Another Peeve with that in mind. when Russell throws deep he doesnt have a long wind up. He does get the ball out fast. the other QBs mentioned have that as well.

:::CO-Op::: You've made another step in CO-Op this year. its an okay feature. But Its still a bit off. back on ps2 and xbox, my friends and I got tired of the next gen madden06 - 08 games and went back to current Gen. We had 5 user controlled players on the same team. Each had a created player that we man Locked on and had the difficulty up to ALL MADDEN with Sliders all the way up for CPU and Normal for USERS. This was the Most fun that we've had on a game ever. we even did 3 on 3 games against other friends. Or created players were all on Defense except one was created QB. We were tuff on D but were Hillarious half the time on Offense when passing when user controlled wide outs took the field, yet still some success. The running game was fun as well 2. User controlled FB and 2 user conrolled O lines and 1 WR and RB controlled was amazing and Challenging.

:::MY Point::: CO-OP should not be limited to just 2 players on a team. PS3 supports i Believe 8 players/controllers at one time. 4 on 360 so we should at least be able to have at least 4 players on one team. Limiting to 2 is stilla buzz kill. If we want more than 2 we dont need to have specific camera angles like superstar mode for 4+ players. Bring back wide screen or a high camera similar to the normal gameplay camera and LET US PLAY. Simple. The if its 2 players the new feature is activated. IM BEGGING YOU. THE PS2 MADDEN KEPT MYSELF AND MY BOYS OUT OF SOME TROUBLE AND ALSO GAVE US SOME OF THE BEST GAME NIGHT AND GAME DAYZ EVER.

Please please PLEASE Correctly make the decision for more than 4+ user controlled teamates again.

::Presentation:: Ive already guessed this year that we are finally going to see somewhat of a halftime show this year. EA dabbled with the Idea in the first edition of Head Coach with Trey wingo. That was Sick. So heres to hoping next gen gets it.

::Sunday and Monday night games:: since its maddens last year. Just for those games. bring back madden as the announcer then collinsworth and whomever for the other games or all three just for a diffent feel. its still always fun to tell madden to shut the hell up when he says " A smart Coach would pick this Play" lol

::Another Feature from College:: In game first down and Touchdown Music from user play lists. Make it Awsome.!

::Rain/SNow games:: Run games should be Dominant.

:: Free agents/injured players:: PLEASE DO NOT PUT A CAP ON THE FREE AGENCY LIST AND TELL US ITS FULL!. Because of your player updates, you guys add and delete players. That doesnt make any sense. what happens to these players the next year. Your Killing franchise mode and Player progression for the future. The defaults should always be there. You guys should just add players accordingly. Low and behold look who's returned to the NFL. O-linemen Mike williams who signed with the Redskins. As of right now, I cannot update my rosters to madden 09 because hes not there anymore. Wonder why.

::CPU AI:: No more should the  computer stay dumb to the fact in user user games that the opponet is using the same play. Make sure they adjust and make a play. Football is a game where anything can happen. In Online games you should be able to get blown out by the same 4 plays all game. The CPU never becomes aware even when there is a smart player on the field it shows the play and the CPU still doesnt react as if the play is known. For one if i was the smart player, obviously Id call the play out and make my D aware so one player with that ability should effect how the rest of the team plays by calling it out. its common sense and its football. Do we remember the Raider/Buccs Super Bowl.

:::Superstar MODE::: Dont bring down the attributes of myteamates to make me the Superstar. Thats DUMB. Football is still football and our goal is to become the superstar not let my teams be retarded and not play. What happend to 11 on 11 hear. I play safty in SuperStar mode. Troy Palomalu or ed Reed cant do it all by themselves so why should I. Please Fix. We need to be able to change the body types, pads, player weight, jersey number in Superstar mode. Maybe I come in undersized and Build some muscle and gain weight and switch numbers. Just like Fargus from number 20 to 25.

:::Penalties and Challenges::: Everyt penalty and Challenge from NFL 2k5 should be in this game. We should be able to clearly see a facemask. We should see inelligible recievers downfield. Late hits are just funnie when frustrated. Some times I'll take 15 yds to get my anger out and my composure restored. The CHALLENGE SYSTEM SHOULD ALLOW US TO CHOOSE WHAT WE ARE CHALLENGING. No More challengin the ball spot when im challenging the catch. And there are times where there is 2 diffent change of possessions where i want to be able to challenge something specific. we should be able to do so.

::Bring Back the Option play:: this is more of a user request. Its not our fault that some players cannot stop the option play.

::: User combine::: Let us test the rookies again like in the ps2/xbox versions before the draft. We want to know before hand since your scouting really does nothing for us.

::: My Personal Request::: Have the announcers say the last name "Potts" The PA announcer says it but the play by play dont.I'd just like to hear my name be called and know that "Potts" blew down field or whatever comes out.

:::Suggestions and Dares::: I suggest that EA purchase facebreakers technology for our madden. The hits are rediculous and could make Protak the sickest innovation ever.:::my dare::: I dare EA( for contractually one year ) Allow Visual Concepts/2k make an NFL game. We all agree. You've made your Best football games when the competition was there. Theres no reason a Game on ps2/xbox made in 2004 should have 85% of the features you are bring us this year. I can say. IF NFL 2k5 had maddens Graphics and Gameplay running annimations and 2k's passing. It would have been the Perfect Simulation. Does anybody Disagree??

::If you Could Pass this On to the Animations Department or the right department:::

Two things that Have not Been Fixed that Can Clearly Change the Game even More in madden. We need to Modify the Field Goal Formation on Defense. You changed it on Offense a couple years ago and Nothing for D sinse. Field Goal D no has alot of Players Stacked at the line and Push forward to get leverage to block the kick. If you remember the Raiders vs Browns Game 2 seasons ago, its a perfect example. The Pro-Tak System Would make this perfect with that Branching technology. Please stick it in the game.

Another Special teams assignment that Definently Needs an upgrade is the Kick off Return Logic on the return team. Every Single Return, there are always Players running past Defenders and just running to the endzone for a touchdown with out the ball when they could be turning around and trying to make another Block. If we could have all 10 players attempting to block at all times, Special teams could be fun. We would probly not kick to Devin Hester like in Real life.

    Does Anybody Hear me???

:::CO-Op::: You've made another step in CO-Op this year. its an okay feature. i really like that idea about adding backtrack to the halftime show its kinda sorta brilliant

  • Tyvon 12 said June 16, 2009

Please say it aint so??? Are there few improvements in the franchise mode? And if so are we gonna be blinded by the  presentation ooh's and ahh's and not the depth of the franchise mode? Don't get me wrong I like superstar mode but I can do without if it meant having more depth in the franchise mode. I know it's a little too late to be complaining but I was hoping to be surprised by new information on this years madden. I like the new features you added to Madden 10'. But it means nothing if I can't translate it through building dynasty. With all the new features how would I want to play franchise mode for years to come. I even tried simulating games just to get through the season just so i can add college football roster to madden. That was the only thing that was exciting. The franchise mode presentation was boring, along with the menus. What happen to the info that was giving by analyst? How would I tell if T.O wants out of buffalo and I he might be interested in my team? How about having agents call my team offering deals for their clients? What about rewarding points for getting rid of a player who's a locker room distraction? That would boost the teams morale positively or loosing a great player to free agency and having a negative affect on you teams. Just a thought.

omg wezsideoutlaw so much spamming >__< you only have to comment once !

and adding to halftime, if they add the backtrack thing i would love it but sometimes the plays the choose to be "highlights" are kind of retarded like they have these little 6 yard runs that become highlights and its not like they were on 4th down or anythng. they should have like gamechanging plays that could help turn the game around and those should be in the halftime show.

For Franchise Mode on Monday games will there be a Monday Night Football logo on the ticker or like a Monday Night Countdown? That would be awsome. No I dont mean the song "Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!!!" by Hank Williams (That would be awsome) but I know that wouldnt happen. But atleast have a Monday Night Football logo on the tickers below the gameplay to show that it is Monday Night Football. Have the atmosphere of Monday Night the way it is on TV.

Here's a example of what would be cool---

Have the announcer saying "Welcome to Monday Night Football".

During halftime, show the guys in the booth talking about how the teams did, and show the highlights of the game by adding commentary by them. Show something on Madden like this ---

    images.usatoday.com/.../2006-08-15-hiestand.jpg

Have the Monday Night Football logo underneath the gameplay, on the ticker like this ---

    www.daveconroy.com/.../jest.jpg

I know EA has already set there ticker to this---

    insideblog.easports.com/.../InjuryDecision.jpg

Just put the Monday Night Football logo beside it or underneath it. So we know its Monday Night.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 16, 2009

It's clear to me (and anyone who actually watches football) that some of these "fanboys" don't understand how this game operates. Or even how the real NFL operates. 40 times does NOT matter in this game. The 40 time does NOT determine the speed rating of a player. Ian said this before. Also, what is the purpose of having an accuracy rating if you want the lead pass to be better for "all QB's"??

It's alright with me if you're a homer, but you're going too far with your comments. We can argue all day about why is Felix Jones not only faster, but is better than Darren McNothing, but I'd rather explain to you why your requests not gonna be taken seriously. All of your suggestions revolve around making the game better for YOU. Not to make a better game.

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 16, 2009

BlacHaze84 is right. Before you say anything about speed, understand--TRULY understand--how to evaluate a 40 time and other drills. For Example, everyone says why is Run DMC slower than Felix Jones? I really dont know, but im guessing since Felix Jones is more of a home-run hitter, he needs to be faster to enhance the effects of his abilities. McFadden, while he is slower, can probably still elude on Felix's level and break tackles better, which is true. So I really can only say that ratings are just sliders that make a player truly feel like that player. For example, last year the opening rosters had MJDs speed at 95 and Fred Taylor at 93. While he isnt a 93 or never was LOL, he NEEDED to be because he still had the ability to break tackles and break away, thus his high ratings. In order for T.O. to break away from DBs, which he regularly does, they had to boost his speed. Just numbers, dont get caught up. Play the games first, not to be rude, because the ratings are schoking us all into denial.

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 16, 2009

Another thing, football speed is different from Shorts and t-shirt speed. A guy can run fast in shorts but not as fast in pads. Jerry Rice is the epitome of a guy with "game" speed. He said he was never fast but always knew how to "run away" from guys. He was also remarkably consistent, running a 4.65 twice. Most guys will run a 4.4, then a 4.59 or something, showing they get tired and slow down in the 4th quarter. Basically, some guys are made slower because of :game" speed. Felix Jones clearly ran faster then RunDMC on field, which is why he(Jones) was the game breaker, the home run hitter, and he had a 6+(or8+) yds per carry average over his career. 40 times are used too much to assess speed.

I have a few simple questions relating to Franchise Mode in 09 of course...

    1. In the off season mode while resigning players - will you be given the option of releasing the player? In a simple scenario, I play as the lions and choose not to resign Paris Lenon and once I sim to Free Agency he is resigned... resulting in cap penalty if i do release him afterwards.

    2. While Drafting - will cpu teams be able to trade for your draft picks without permission? Its frustrating simulating to a draft pick in the first round and then learning I have lost my valuable 2nd round pick.

    3. When moving a franchise - will there be a larger variety of logos to select?

That is all that is really on my mind about Franchise that I was hoping you could answer, I like the progress so far of the upcoming title. If you could maybe answer some of these questions on this blog in a later post or take the time out of your day to email me that would be superb. You can find my email attached to my account information. Thanks. (btw at the beginning of a franchise I do switch from CPU to USER)

I am a buffalo bills fan and a loyal madden fan. I have not made many posts here. I will not bash the game like some do. I will not be nit picky and say the game needs chin straps that hand on the side of the helmet. I enjoyed all of the maddens to date and am extatic of theres years, I absolutely cannot wait, you guys did a h@ll of a job. One small request, i recently found all of the madden 10s player ratings after hours of searchin, i noticed the that some one adored by bills fans is missing. Our 7th round pick lat year, WR, steve johnson. Here in buffalo many feel he will end up being the gem of the 08 draft. Many BILLieve that hes beter than our 2nd rounder hardy, and will one day be our #2 WR. I kno there will bw roster updates but this guy is must fro shipping. I know that would be 1 over the the 53 an roster be he will have a pivotal role in our O, he will not be cut or a practice squad player. Remove justin jenkings, im willing to bet J.Reed, J. Hardy, J. Jenkins and R. Parish would be cut before him, so my one little wish is add S. Johnson WR. Great build, many features we could only dream of, sorry so long but hoping to catch attention because thats how inportant the guy is!!!!!!!!!

  • BlacHaze84 said June 17, 2009

Last year, Felix Jones only Played 6 games to Darren McFaggen's 13. Darren only had 1 TD more than Felix and only 1 run of more than 20 yards. Felix had a much higher rushing average than Darren. So imagine if Felix had played 13 games like Darren, then there wouldn't be any argument. Again, there's nothing wrong with being a Homer, I don't mind people cheering for their teams. But don't try to bash Ian and his staff for getting something right.

BTW, to all Oakland Raiders' Fans I have good news. We all remember what happened when Jeff Garcia took over for McNabb...they went to the playoffs. Then he went to The Buccaneers and what happened...they went to the playoffs. Now, when the Oakland Raiders realize that Jamarcus sucks and they put Garcia in, they will go to the playoffs. Maybe not win it all with Peyton over there in the AFC, but at least you guys will go to the dance.

How about the cpu AI on the highest difficulty?? Is it gonna actually be hard this year? My Madden IQ was 800, and that's the highest it went, and yet i was still running and passing all over the cpu. And when the cpu was on Offense, they wouldn't even go for it on 4th and 2 in the 4th qtr. while losing by 28. I need the AI to be more combative, more aggressive, and more challenging. I have never seen the cpu even attempt a fake punt/fg. Remember the Cowboys vs. the Ravens last year? I need the cpu to fake me out like that to keep me on my toes when i'm playing Franchise.

Ian, I think you should adress how hard All-Madden is actually gonna be. I would like to one day be in a tight franchise game and i'm playing for a playoff spot, instead of just cruising to the Superbowl.

  • xXtC said June 17, 2009

::Problem:: Here's something that I remembered.  We all love finding gems in the draft and pushing them to reach their full potential, but it's really hard to keep track of every player's progression through the years of franchise play.

::Idea::  How bout giving each player a progression screen where it shows you their progression in every category year by year, and also shows you why they progressed the way they did.  Little comments like: "Tracy Porter's injury really prevented him from growing this year" or "Lack of playing time really prevented this player from reaching his full potential" would go a long way towards motivating me to play my rookies and develop my players.

  • xXtC said June 17, 2009

::Problem::  Progression is a little vague.  We all know that if your rookie has a stellar year then he is likely to progress.  But what constitutes a good year?  How is he likely to progress?

::Idea::  Have a progress bar (which should go both positive and negative) for each player which shows which direction they are headed toward improving/degrading their stats.  This would add an interesting dynamic to your coaching decisions where you would have to decide whether to give a rookie playing time to develop him, or keep the aging veteran in to keep him from taking a step back.

I'm happy with this. I usually play in franchise but I'm not uber into it like that. I do have to get my pencil and pad to make decisions in the off season but I focus more on the established players than the draft and bringing in rookies. I let the CPU handle that.

At this point in time, I just need me hands on, as the game is pretty much near finished if not completely finished, at this point. We will probably hear that the game is at final code, soon, but I hear the demo is going to be 4 5 minute quarters of the last Superbowl. Gamestop is having exclusive access to the demo via pre-order and I am assuming it's gunna be an earlier access than the usual demo on the PSN and XBL just like the Fight Night 4 demo was but there is no confirmation of early access yet it makes sense to do so. I need to call Gamestop and see if I can go back and get my code since I already pre-ordered.

  • TATMANFISH said June 17, 2009

franchise looks awesome and the gamelay looks sweet.

i have to give a WTF? to ea though. clifton smith is only an 88 on returns and none of his other ratings look like they will help him on returns. how is an undrafted rookie that only played half a season, that was voted to the probowl by playes and coaches(not fans) not rewarded for it? corey graham(only bears fans know who he is) is rated a 90. graham has done nothing! clifton is one of a couple undrafted rookies to go to the probowl in nfl history! wake up and give this guy some respect. nfl.com writer just rated smith as the best retur er in the nfc south over bush because of his probowl bid, saying that smith will only get better. one of the top returners in the nfc(look at the probowl) should be rated like it.

let me break it down for you....

hester KR99- 31 kick returns for 679 yards(21.9avg) no tds, 32 punt returns for 198 yards(6.2avg) no touchdowns

reggie bush KR90-no kick return, 20 punt returns for 270 yards(11.5avg) for 3 tds

corey graham KR90- never returned a single kick in the nfl!!!

clifton smith KR88- 36 kick return for 992 yards(27.6avg) for 1td, 23 punt returns for 324yards(14.1 avg) for 1 td.

so i say WTF? why is a guy that has never returned a kick in the nfl rated higher than a probowl returner?

  • swillz13 said June 17, 2009

well tatmanfish i say bush and hester are the best out of those 4. then clifton smith would be second. because remember in the game the kr stat also is included for punt returns. and bush had two in one game so thats why he'd would be rated higher than clifton smith. and devin hester is higher well because he's devin hester.

  • TATMANFISH said June 17, 2009

thats my point swillz. these are the best in the game(could add sproles but his ratings havent been released). there rating should reflect it. yet tramon williams, will blackmon, phillip buchanon, and corey graham are all rated the same or higher.  the elite are supposed to be sepparated from the rest this year right? well, wheres the seperation?

  • warrior310 said June 17, 2009

ok so like when we click on the top stories, could we get a video of how kurt warner got hurt, and please have commentary on it.

  • TATMANFISH said June 17, 2009

will blackmon did put up good numbers, i accidently included him. so far, ive been pretty satisfied with the ratings. if a guy goes to the probowl despite only playing half a season that says something. he got voted in by coaches and players(the ones that count). how can a guy like corey graham or tramon williams even be considered to have a raing higher than clifton or the same as bush? EA has seperated the elite from the rest in every position except for returners. jumt my opinion.

  • sconn1 said June 17, 2009

keep in mind that a player's overall rating might not reflect how they do a specific task on the field. a guy could be a great kick returner, but you don't give him a huge "overall" rating, just high marks in areas where kicks are concerned. a low durability rating (that many special teams players have) can reduce someone's overall rating, and hopefully, this year we will see that a player such as that, when used on every down, degrades quickly and makes mistakes, etc....

durability being just one example, all kinds of ratings can drag down an overall rating. that's how one finds "gems" in the draft and FA. you find guys who can do something specific really well and have them contribute there...while developing the rest of their game. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...that's football and that's why they call em "projects."

  • sconn1 said June 17, 2009

and while you are singin smith's praises...keep in mind his 1 kick return was against the chiefs...they suck. and his punt return was against the 0-16, worst team in NFL history lions.

and he had as many fumbles as kick / punt returns for TD's...2. plus he fumbled twice when he was given an opportunity with the regular offense.

he got "special teams player of the month" in november for his TD return against the chiefs, and in a weak field on the NFC special teams side of things, that probably got him the pro bowl nod.

actually, i think his rating might be slightly generous, but i can live with it.

and it's just my opinion based on a sober, non-homer look at his short career.

Nice update Josh, I was wondering whether we will see otions for things like High/low white socks and unbuckled chinstraps in the edit player section of Madden 10.  Also we will see wideouts, punt/kick returners, and defensive backs hold the pigskin with both hands on the football, ala the quarterbacks in NCAA Football who run the flexbone formation, as they run prior to palming the ball with one hand once they break into the clear.  Here are some videos/pictures displaying real NFL players carrying the ball with both hands on it:

TATMANFISH, Lumping Devin Hester in with your argument for Clifton Smith having a better rating almost invalidates it.  Devin Hester is the best kick returner in the league and you know it, even if he didn't happen to break an NFL record this year (huge letdown right).  Danieal Manning led all kick returners, including Clifton Smith, in average yards per return, and has a return rating of 72.  I'm a Bears fan and I know who Corey Graham is, and I had a gripe about his rating on another blog post, but I will agree that he's done nothing to earn a 90 in KR.  If the new ratings are supposed to be spread out, my opinion is that anyone with a 90 rating in anything should have earned it playing in the NFL.  Maybe that guy is Clifton Smith, but if you know about football you know that the Pro Bowl isn't something you should wholly judge a player's talent by.  As much as I hate him, Phillip Rivers should have made the Pro Bowl, but somehow Brett Favre did instead.  It took Fred Taylor how many years until he got the call?  And the only reason he got in was because someone else got hurt and he was an alternate.  In short, don't argue a player's ability on pro bowl appearances, and don't compare Devin Hester to other return specialists.

  • patsattack said June 17, 2009

    Hi Josh,

I would like to see the ability to edit players height, weight during franchise mode.   When importing players from NCAA, players tend to bulk up at the pro level.  For example, linebackers add 10 lbs, usually in the pros.

Also would like to see more free agents added to the free agent pool list.  Especially when you put a player on IR.   You should have practice squads.

  • TATMANFISH said June 17, 2009

im not saying clifton is as good as hester by any means. i was just putting up some of the top returners that have had their ratings released. im ok with clifton being an 88 KR if hes one of the higher rated return men. my problem lies in the fact, that some of these guys have done nothing to warrant high KR ratings. if these guys that havent done anything, are rated higher than say clifton(or any other GOOD returner)then something is wrong. ill use a different player so you wont jump on my nuts and call me a homer. corey graham had the same KR rating as reggie bush! how is that possible?

also sconn, at no point was anyones overall rating mentioned. smith is not a great rb and his 67 OVR is warranted. i also mentioned that clifton was chosen by coaches and players for the probowl, not voted in(which is a popularity contest) by fans. im not say that this makes him the best, just one of the better ones.

has anyone read what i posted? dont try reading into what i say, just read what i typed. it is nowhere near the debate some are making it out to be. im saying the KR ratings are very flawed and should be adjusted accordingly. if you were a bush, blackmon, sproles or whoever fan, wouldnt you be upset knowing that someone could use someone that has never returned a kick in the nfl and be just as effective if not more than one of the "stars"? maybe if you read the comment wher swilz ranked hester, bush then sproles, you would see i didnt dispute it because its true. is tramon williams as good as bush? how about corey graham, is he as good as bush?

  • TATMANFISH said June 17, 2009

patsattack, ive been asking for the weight edit. hopefully its in there. there are a lot of guys that bulk up, lose weight to play different roles. hopefully there is a min/max amount though to keep it realistic. on the realistic note, not too worried about the height though. its just not realistic in my opinion. a player cant grow 3inces to be a bigger target wr.

  • death5talk said June 18, 2009

great work but i have just a few suggestions for madden.

My first one is, on superstar mode allow us to get cut or released, allow us to make deciscions like go out on the town or stay home and let us get suspended if something happens (depending on player personality).

My second one is, when i create a player please seperate face and hair styles be cause mayBE i want a clean shaven face with dreads!!! also for the white or tan faces, why are they red???? please fix.

Finally let us watch and/or participate in the draft combine during franchise mode. i want to see my possible draft picks work out and go through drills (only watch players your scouting) :) thanks and once again great work so far.

P.S. i would like to hear info on improvements to superstar mode.

  • CAMREN630 said June 18, 2009

one question i have to ask you guys.in online franchise how will this whole trade thing work?what i mean by that is for example i am pretty sure you guys will be updating the rosters as the real nfl season moves along, but what if i make a trade in my league to aquire um lets say boldin now he is with my bills but in real life the bears make a trade for him what happens now?

  • warrior310 said June 18, 2009

well guys, dont expect much from ncaa its the same thing every year with different features,i thaught yall would learn that by now.

please dont turn this to a ncaa forum, this is madden dudes.

i would only buy that game for teambuilder.

  • warrior310 said June 18, 2009

also,i have no more ideas on madden,i gave them all of them.now i could just hope that they really listened and put it in the game,i used to be hyped up about the game but now im slightly disappointed.i was battered by the postgame, halftime show, and the extremely boring commentary lol.in summary, all i could do is hope for the best.

madden 10 better be the best.

  • swillz13 said June 18, 2009

yeah the ncaa demos was actually pretty good. but u guys have to remember it's only a demo theres still about a month before the game comes out so they will probably fix a few things. eh?

  • BlacHaze84 said June 18, 2009

Camren630, Roster updates only apply to online ranked / unranked games. Not the  online franchise mode. If you have Boldin on the Bills in your Franchise, that's were he'll stay, but if you play a ranked or unranked game (or even if you go to 'Play Now' when you playing with your friends) then he'll be where ever he is in real life. Hopefully, he'll go to the Bears with Plaxico and Brandon Marshall.

  • swillz13 said June 18, 2009

also i wanna ask one thing. i think u guys should start work on the new madden right after u guys finish this one like u know perfect the gameplay and the character models. so that way u guys aren't rushed into anything and can do a much better job. because i think with some time u guys can make a really good game. i know madden will be good though but if u guys did that it would be amazingly good. know what i mean?

p.s. alos for next years version could u guys add tattoos i don't know if u guys added them this year but if not u guys should add them in next year.

p.p.s. u guys should also do that thing where i take a picture of my face and it is put in the game.

well thats it for me i can't wait till the game comes out.

  • CAMREN630 said June 18, 2009

I hope this isn't already posted somewhere else...

I was going to suggest seeing the medics on the feild for injuries but I see that you already added that...

Another thing I would like to see added would be "replays" of the penalties on the field..

Which player went offsides?...who did the clipping? or facemask?

  • sconn1 said June 19, 2009

after seeing others were trying it out, i too decided to try the ncaa demo.

and i wasn't impressed at all. it may be in part that i am used to the pro game more, as this seemed more like high school or pop warner football more than 2 college teams playing for a championship. very "loosey goosey" and not a lot of discipline required.

but aside from that, i was disappointed in the game play in general. many of the flaws of madden 9 seem to be still in ncaa 10. things like the receivers still make 90 degree breaks and man to man coverage is pretty much useless.

i did like the greater challenge of their kicking system vs. madden's. i actually "hit the post" on an under 30 yard attempt. i don't think i've missed a madden FG under 45 yards in years.

i think the interest in this game stems more from the features like dynasty and so forth. the idea of figuring out which of the 8000 recruits will help build a winner is intriguing. but with this gameplay, i have a feeling the skill of the user will have more to do with success than which recruits are selected.

again, ncaa does have some really cool stuff like the dynasty mode, but unless the gameplay is top notch and less 'glitchable", this game would bore me in less than a month.

i'll stick with madden and see what they offer in august for now. but i was surprised that EA really doesn't seem to collaborate between these games and that a lot of the game play glitches that we complain about are very alive and well in ncaa. and that's unfortunate and a reflection on a company that seemingly needs to find a way to work together across game lines.

on a more positive note (slightly).... last night, after getting d/c'd by the server for the umpteenth time this week (is this happening to others on ps3?) , my opponent and i were still "linked" and had a nice 20-25 minute convo about all the happenings, the cheaters and cheezers and whatnot.

it was both funny and sad to be talking to the person i was supposedly disconnected from as the screen was telling me, yet, we were still linked obviously.

it was nice to talk to another player who was as "into" things like a "good game" and "fair play" as i was. someone who didn't allow his competitive nature to interfere with basic rules of fairness.

so a big shout out to "Brave1NC" (hope i remembered that right) and i hope we can actually play our game soon.

  • sconn1 said June 19, 2009

and a penalty replay would be so cool....but i am 99.9% sure we won't see it.

and something else i would like to see concerning penalties, and probably won't, is CALLING PENALTIES CORRECTLY. especially pass interference. just a few days ago i had a game where i got rooked out of not 1, not2 but 3 blatant fouls. plays where my receiver was twice ran into and once literally double team blocked out of a completion by AI players while the ball was clearly in the air. it seems interference is only called if a human player does the infraction. and that is just plain stupid.

  • TreyIM2 said June 19, 2009

RSLH and sconn - I feel u on the penalty replays. I actually spoke on that either on one of these blogs or somewhere else but I also mentioned, prior to that, that they show the penalties actually being committed so if they didn't have the auto replay showing it, u can go back and look and see it on your own. Just something that will add to the authenticity.

I think Madden 10 looks pretty good with all the new additions to it, from what I've seen. The one thing I would hope they can do in the future is create an animation engine that has the players looking more organic in their movements such as when players are running then they change direction, I wanna see the organicness (is that word?) of the players' off hand swinging out randomly and also not so much of a slow mo' look to when the change of direction animation kicks in or many of the animations do.

I just checked this vid out on IGN that was posted today. What I like about it is how it looks like the footplant tech has been implemented or improved - ps3.ign.com/.../madden10_trl_nfcsouth_61909.html

    Madden 10 demo.

I strongly believe EA Sports should release a early demo of Madden 2010. This way... Us as fans can get a good grasp of how the game plays. We already have a good idea of what has been improved by the updates. Though, alot of us still have more ideas to add or are disapointed with some things.

So, why not release a early demo and we can rate and share our feedback of what we think needs to be improved. To make Madden 10 a great game before its released.

Right now would be a good time for a demo with only around 2 months to go. Reading and seeing the new updates are good. But, to actually sit down and play a early version of Madden could really help.

BillTheMac - The demo usually gets made early on. Like with NCAA 10, according to pastapadre on pastapadre.com, the NCAA 10 demo that is out now seems like an earlier build of the demo from E3 so we may just be getting a Madden 10 demo that is an earlier build than the one at E3.

That being said, I think EA went more on what people at E3 thought of that demo, however, I think the fact that EA is actually releasing a Madden 10 demo sporting 4 5min quarters shows their confidence about how good this Madden is and it may actually be either the E3 build or later. I don't really know. Just speculating but it makes sense.

Plus, EA should be about finished with all the major work on Madden 10 if not completely finished and just doing testing to get the bugs widdled down, at this point so your wish of playing the demo to give feedback to improve the game won't come true.

Another thing about the demo is that there are actually 2 demos being released for Madden 10, if u are not already aware. There is a 4 5min quarter demo of the Superbowl with the Cards/Steelers which is available only through pre-ordering at Gamestop. And, according to Gamestop, the codes may be active on July 15th which may or not be earlier than the demo that is being released on PSN/XBL which is only 4 2min quarters with the Giants/Cowboys.

  • swillz13 said June 20, 2009

thats pretty stupid if the demo being released is the cowboys and the giants. it should just be 4 2min quarters with cards and steelers or if ur going to do those nfc east teams do the eagles and giants.

  • CAMREN630 said June 20, 2009

nice video treyim2 and yeah that demo with the cowboys and giants wont be released until early august.i know madden and ncaa are to different games but i have to admitt i was some what dissapointed in the effort by ea on college.when i first played it i was like this is ok but the more i played it it was 09 all over again.i know madden will be alot better than college just cause of all the stuff they added thats missing from ncaa no pro tak system,no refs, bad protection and still the ability to rocket catch.this year i believe people will be playing madden way more than college.

  • robskins21 said June 20, 2009

Madden is a good franchise, but they could learn a few things from the 2k series, such as presentation.  The graphics for Madden are good and gameplay has gotten better, but the presentation still lacks.  The faces for 2k5 still look better than the faces for Madden 09.  I do have to admit that Jeff Fisher's face looks very realistic right down to the handle bar mustache.  I would like to see training camp mode revert back to the old version where you accumulated points for a player and you could use those points on any attribute that you wanted instead of having to run the 40 yard dash to increase my player's speed I could do the ball swat drill to add speed to a player.

  • TATMANFISH said June 20, 2009

you cant challenge penalties in the nfl, so i doubt they out it in the game. the penalties are kind of a joke in the past maddens though. if its not offsides, holding, or a facemask, the CPU wont get called for it. i usually see 4-5 PI calls a season on the CPU.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 20, 2009

I just finished watching the NFC South Players' Trailer on IGN.com and I found something very disturbing and very unrealistic.

Atlanta's WR Roddy White (6ft 208lbs) somehow found enough strength to escape a 3-man tackle that included Tampa Bay LB's Angelo Crowell (6' 1" 246lbs), Barrett Ruud (6' 2" 241lbs), and DE Gaines Adams (6' 5" 260lbs)......WHAT!!!! Where's the physics!?! The common sense!?! I understand that for the past 3-5 years, the art of tackling has diminished, and there's been more missed tackles now more than ever but this is ridiculous. Roddy White has a 67 in toughness, where did he get the balls to break a 3-man tackle (lol)?!?. I've seen some crazy break tackles in my life (mostly by RB's), but I ain't never seen a LB hit a WR head up, get help from another LB and a DE while the WR is wrapped up, then the WR says "excuse me" and pushes all 3 of them out of the way.

Ian, at the very least make the animation different because it just seems like Roddy White didn't know he was getting tackled.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 20, 2009

There's only 1 month left before the game is completely finished. I hope all goes well for EA.

  • warrior310 said June 21, 2009

well blachaze, obviously they dont make weight matter and weight should have an effect in the game.thats one thing i believe they haven't listened to.

look at steve smith the WR on carolina,he broke like an 8 man tackle and he is 5'9".

i think toughness for this game is mental toughness, not physical.

madden needs to have an exciting post so i can feel that this game will be what they say it is.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 21, 2009

Warrior310, I'm glad you brought up the Steve Smith video up.

For starters, Steve Smith's toughness in the game is 99 (like in real life). You saw an example of that in the video when he refused to go down. (His break tackle should be around 90 as well.) So I don't think "mental toughness" is what's being measured in the game. (I don't think little electronic men have "mental toughness" due to the fact they can't think for themselves.)

Second, Steve Smith only broke 5 tackles (which is alot!!). But my point is this, out of those 5 tackles, only 1 was a LB, the rest were DB's (2 of them hit each other). Now 2 LB's and a DE can definately execute a gang tackle better than 1 LB and 4 DB's. Especiall when you consider the personelle. Steve did that on the Texans. Roddy ran through the Bucs. I think the first scenario is more believable.

ok so why would nba live have mental toughness?

if you ever played football (tackle football that is)you would know that anybody could break tackles.

if you say its physical toughness,it doesn't make since.it would be no reason for other attributes like juking, trucking etc...

    think about it...

how did that post 4 times?

  • TreyIM2 said June 21, 2009

BlacHaze84 and warrior310 - I think that the vid was just to demonstrate that you can break gang tackles, which u couldn't do in Madden 09, even when though there were only 2 man gang tackles, and was most likely played on rookie. I hear EA does that for many of the trailers depending on the focus of the vids. That particular vid had a lot of broken tackles and that seemed to be a focus if not THE focus. I ain't worried about the final product and when I'm on All Pro when it comes to that. I just want my demo. I am going to hound Gamestop at least once...or twice a week about those codes. Lol. And even after getting the longer demo and rocking on it, I will d-load the shorter PSN demo when it's avail. Ha.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 22, 2009

Oh, geez. Here we go... Warrior310, I don't like discussing nothing with you cause you always try to act like you know everything and come off as a smart-a$$. It's like you never read the post thoroughly or you just don't understand it. And you're always talking sideways. So let me explain a few things to you about "Mental Toughness".

1.) "Mental Toughness" is the psychological skill that allows an athlete to maintain the focus and determination to complete a course of action despite difficulty or consequences. It's a state of mind. And no matter what game says they have it, nobody can duplicate the human mindstate. Not NBA Live, not Tiger Woods Golf...nobody. There's just too many variables. And since the little electronic men can't think for themselves, that disqualifies them as having "mental toughness".

2.) Please read my post again. I said I've seen crazy break tackles. And I also stated that I'm aware that tackles are not being executed like they should for the past 3-4 years, resulting in alot of broken tackles. So to insinuate that I don't know broken tackles happen in real life is insulting. Oh, and no...not anybody can break tackles. And yes, I played football. I got 3 Little League Champs jackets and 2 High School rings to show for it. Anyway, Steve Smith wasn't wrapped up so I'm not suprised he got away. But in the video with Roddy White, he was WRAPPED UP by 2 LB's. One with a 94 in tackle and the other had an 87. I doubt that Roddy's break tackle is anywhere near an 80, so what is he doing breaking a tackle like that? You yourself can't recall the last time you saw a WR break out of a Wrap-Up tackle by 2 LB's.

3.) The toughness attribute has nothing to do with the players' skill. The toughness attribute determines how fast a player heals from injury. A player with a high-rated toughness can play through an injury without losing alot off his other attributes. It also determines how fast you return from an injury.

Now I know what you're gonna say: "But you mentioned Roddy White having 67 in toughness!" But if you notice, I put an "LOL" at the end of my statement. I was joking about Roddy's toughness rating. Toughness in Madden is neither physical nor mental. I just had to let you know it can't be mental.

P.S. It's spelled "sense" not "since".

  • warrior310 said June 22, 2009

  • BlacHaze84 said June 23, 2009

That's Warrior310 for you. He knows it all.

I read TreyIM2's comments and he made a clear and valid point. He didn't argue, he just gave me his opinion on why the trailers are how they are. And the way TreyIM2 put it, it's believable. He didn't come off as argumentative. Whereas Warrior310 just wants to correct you (cuz everybody is wrong to him) and then insult you. Why, I don't know. But that's why I stay clear from him. I let him say whatever he wants and I'm cool with it. But it seems like he's never cool with other people's comments. And livinadream, I thought you were hilarious. You could've been coming at me and I still would've laughed. Some people just don't appreciate comedic sarcasm when they see it (or read it, whatever).

Since there's only a month left until the game is shipped out I don't think they're taking anymore suggestions. I'm betting on future post being about how helpful the community has been. But I hope I'm wrong. Then again, if they couldn't put together a descent HalfTime show in less than a year, what can they possibly change in a month? Other than the Ratings. I'm Pushing to have QB Philip Rivers' rating bumped up a little. An 88 rating is just disrespectful to a QB that was tied for most TD's last year with less interceptions than the person he was tied with.

  • sconn1 said June 23, 2009

here kids....an article on mental toughness in sports....should open some eyes....

    content.scholastic.com/.../article.jsp

    from the article....

In 2002, Jones, Hanton, & Connaughton endeavored to define the term mental toughness.  The following definition was created:

“Mental toughness is having the natural or developed psychological edge that enables you to:

    • Generally cope better than your opponents with the many demands (competition, training, and lifestyle) that sport places on a performer.

    • Specifically, be more consistent and better than your opponents in remaining determined, focused, confident, and in control under pressure.

    ......

The data showed that the following components were fundamental to the definition of mental toughness:

    1. Having an unshakable self-belief in the unique qualities and abilities that make you better than your opponents.

    2. Strength: You have to be in good physical and mental condition.  You must be psychologically and emotionally prepared.

    3. Having an unshakable self-belief in your ability to achieve your competition goals.

    4. Have conviction: You have to be a little bit stubborn.

    5. Regaining psychological control following unexpected, uncontrollable events (competition specific).

    6. Have a strong will to succeed: Don’t let setbacks stop you from achieving your goal.

    7. Remaining fully focused on the task at hand in the face of competition-specific distractions.

    8. Be consistent: Recognize and adjust to change so that you are always able to make a contribution to your team.

    9.  Not being adversely affected by others’ good and bad performances.

    10. Be competitive: It’s not just about beating your opponent.  You have to internalize competitiveness and take pride in what you do.

    11. Switching a sport focus on and off as required.

    12. Personal management: Don’t duck potential problems; take on the problems directly to prevent small problems from building into bigger problems.

    13. Thriving on the pressure of competition.

    14. Take the right approach: Always be ready to play.

    15. Accepting that competition anxiety is inevitable and knowing that you can cope with it.

    16. Have passion for what you do.

    17. Having an insatiable desire and internalized motives to succeed.

    18. Bouncing back from performance setbacks as a result of increased determination to succeed.

    19. Remaining fully focused in the face of personal life distractions.

    20. Pushing back the boundaries of physical and emotional pain, while still maintaining technique and effort under distress (in training and competition).

btw...worth mentioning that it is now tues @ 3:12pm.

EA STILL advertises this blog on PSN as having new updates every Sunday

we all know that at some point this spring...Sunday became Monday.

Then, a few weeks ago, Monday somehow morphed into Tuesday.

and again, it is now 3:12 on Tues. ... no new update.

I guess that is the difference between a blogger and a real journalist / writer....journalists know of and respect "deadlines."

let us all pray that EA employees don't blow off deadlines in their work in the same way they blow this one off regularly.

maybe it's not that the task is too hard to create our "online franchise." maybe it's just laziness @ EA as demonstrated on these very pages on a weekly basis.

  • sconn1 said June 23, 2009

haze...let me try to play devil's advocate here.

yes, phillip rivers had a great season. 1 great season does not a career make.

and a closer look at his numbers reveals some interesting tidbits.

he had some of his best games against weak division opponents, that they got to play twice each. he also racked up stats against other, not so defensive teams like indianapolis and a new england team that at the time was on the ropes.

in his 3 best performances of the season, rivers threw for between 346 and 377 yards. the chargers lost 2 of the 3 games. the one they won was a 1 point nailbiter against the pathetic chiefs.

some of his big passing numbers are the result of trying to make big comebacks after making big mistakes or playing poorly for most of a game.

rivers has never won anything but 1 widcard playoff game. 2 of the players drafted after him (ben and eli) have both won superbowls. phil lost to ben head to head twice last season, in one game sporting a 44 qb rating.

rivers can't run very well. he boasts a 1.4 yard career rushing avg and in both 2006 and 2007 fumbled 5 times in each season. his low sack numbers have more to do with the quality of his o line than anything he did.

88 might seem low to you, but to me, it seems fairly accurate. could he maybe get a point or 2 more? sure...but it could be argued for a point or 2 less as well.

  • nmbr17 said June 23, 2009

sconn1 your right except you cant say indy is a weak D there passing D was one of the best in the nfl last year it was their run D that was hurting and that was because bob sanders was injured

  • sconn1 said June 23, 2009

actually nmbr...again, if you look inside the big numbers, you will see that where indy finished strong, when they played san diego, in week 12, they came into the game ranked 10th defensively, only 2 weeks removed from being ranked 18th. no, they weren't the worst by a longshot....but in midseason, neither the colts run or pass defense was doing very much. their pass d did recover and finish strong, but that was a result more of the last 4 weeks of the season, imho.

    sports.espn.go.com/.../ranking

but granted, indy wasn't quite the scrub i charged em with initially. point taken. but i think my devil's advocate argument holds up overall.

  • BlacHaze84 said June 23, 2009

Sconn1, nice blog. Here's my response:

Philip Rivers is a 5-year player, making the playoffs the last 3 (he played 5 games total his 1st 2 yrs cuz he played behind some guy named Drew Brees), and has gone to the conference championships (only to lose to Tom-freakin'-Brady). So to say he's never won anything is inaccurate. Philip has been a thorn is Peyton's side beating Manning 2x in the playoffs. And in that 3-year span, his QB rating is 93.3, beating out his draft peers Ben (86.5) and Eli (79.1...lol). So he had more than 1 great season. BTW, I know you know but I'd figure I remind you anyway. Madden bases their rating on the year before, not on their career. And since he had a good year last year, a decent rating is in order.

In 2007, the Patriots went undefeated. That's pretty easy to do when you have the easiest schedule in the NFL (avg. opp. winning pct. is %.387). Tom had his best games againgst 2 of the worst teams that year (the 1-win Dolphins and the Bills) both in the Patriots division. Then you look at what happened to Brady when he went up againgst defensive teams (Ravens, Eagles, and Giants all lose by 3 pts.) Tom Brady played one snap last year, and yet he still commanded a 98 ovr. in Madden 10. Now since the 2007 season is the only season Madden has to go by to rate Brady, should they lower his overall because the logic you applied to analyze Rivers can also be used against Brady? I think not.

And as far as Ben and Eli winning Superbowls, we all know DEFENSE wins championships (it's cliche, but this old adage stands true). Eli's defense kept the most prolific offense EVER to 14 measly points. And Ben's 1st Superbowl, the Steelers won DESPITE Roethlisberger's performance (he had an abysmal QB rating of 22.6). And his second...well I don't have to tell you how big of a part defense played in winning that game. So Superbowl wins does not necessarily mean a better QB (Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer have rings....come on). Superbowl wins reflect on how good the Team is as a whole and more times than not it's the Defense that wins.

Now what surprised me is that you criticized Rivers for not running well. I can tell you know football, but I can't figure this one out. Dan Marino (whose ringless cuz he played in the wrong era) played 17 years in the NFL, and has amassed a career rushing total of 87! That's an average of .03 yds a game. Now I ask you this: Would you penalize Marino's overall rating because he doesn't run well?? I think not.

So in closing, I would like to tell you I'm not a Rivers fan. I just think that EA is robbing a man who deserves to have a higher rating than what he currently has. And based on last year, he deserves at least a 92.

I'm referring to the ability to set concession prices, ticket prices, advertising, stadium naming rights, etc... like the previous gen Madden games. Added control over the management aspects and more of it. I want FULL CONTROL of running the franchise. More stadium customization that actually appears in the Franchise mode would be great.

The lack of any of these features has been a complete turn off in the past few years of madden.

...come to think of it, custom playbooks making a return would be great too.

Another question I have is do we have the ability to create players during the franchise mode, to come in as rookies in future years? This is a major pet peeve of one of my friends.

hey blac...you certainly make a fine case for phil. i will say that yes, if i were doing the ratings, marino does lose a couple of points both for not running well and for not being able to win the big one. not exactly the same, but similar to phil. and both qb's would probably garner exceptionally high marks for things like accuracy and arm strength.

and like i said, it could be argued that phil should get a few more overall points. but i still stand by my devil's advocate argument that suggests that he could even be knocked down a peg or 2....in other words, it's all subjective. overall, i think EA is "close enough for rock and roll" on most players, including phil.

maybe to put an additional spin on phil, i might liken him not to another qb, but to an ex eagles (et al) running back, ricky watters. i moved to the philly area (northern delaware) around when he came to philly and found it highly interesting that each year that he played for them, he always put up big numbers. 1000 or more rushing each season, and something like 1600-1800 yards from scrimmage each year he played for them. he did a similar job for seattle after he left philly.

    wow, great player, huh?

well, if you really watched his games, you find that much of his yardage was unclutch, incidental yardage. it rarely had much to do with the whole of the game.

and i look at river's numbers and i see similar trends. as much as you can see when comparing 2 different skill positions. but the analogies are there. 2 of 3 of river's best performances were in losing efforts. and the 3rd was a nail biter that doesn't really reflect the numbers he put up. against a team they should have beaten by 2 or 3 touchdowns. much of his good work last year was done after he had screwed up pretty good.

and as far as EA ratings go, yes, they are based on last year's performance in part, but not on whole. the "buzz" around a player affects ratings quite often. to use another chargers example, i haven't seen the ratings myself, but i'm willing to wager that shawne merriman's ratings will be based on his "buzz" and hype as a player, performance before last season and so forth. if his ratings were based on last year alone, where he had a total of 2 measley tackles in 1 appearance, he would be rated like any scrub. but i'm bettin he'll be rated as we expect, amongst the elite lb in the league, with slightly lower injury related ratings.

and like you, i'm not a chargers fan, just playin along here.

oh, and 12:08 wed.....no update. no wonder they couldn't properly finish online franchise. EA seems to have no concept of a deadline unless it's the closing time of their local cannibus club.

  • sconn1 said June 24, 2009

and on mental toughness blac....i shared that as when i read your and warrior's convo, y'all really didn't seem to even have a working definition of mental toughness. maybe it was how i read it, but it seemed to me that if you 2 couldn't agree on exactly what it was, then being able to determine if it was possible to incorporate it into a game would inherently be unfeasible.

i personally agree with the responder who said that it really can't be programmed into the "electronic men" but that toughness really stems from the user at the controls and their "mental toughness." especially the parts about focus and dealing with adversities, in this case, in game.

i find this with online opponents quite often...a lack of mental toughness, especially when faced with a lil adversity. i think many players venture online after mastering the computer and perhaps their neighborhood pals or little brothers that they can whip at will. then they go online, convinced that they can either score at will or can't be scored on...or even both. then they start playing and find that people out in the virtual world have some game too. many people online don't come back very well. some quit, some d/c and some cheat when down. that to me is a prime example of a lack of mental toughness.

on the other side of the coin, many players get very arrogant and cocky after scoring a mere td or 2. that's when players like me, who are mentally tough, can stay focused and can shake off a mistake or a bad play and slowly take over the game. and where i might be down 14-0 after the 1st, at the end of the 3rd, i'm up 24-17. and i get a couple of rude emails accusing me of using cheat codes before i get the message that my opponent has quit the game.

and for the record, i have never used (or even know of) any cheat codes in madden whatsoever going back to the orig sega game.

    but anyway...i ramble....

ea its 3 days past your deadline for a blog dont make deadlines like every fucking sunday when you cant keep it

  • sconn1 said June 24, 2009

will EA employees complain about how "hard" it was to meet a blog deadline and they "just couldn't get it done in time" like they are claiming with online franchise not having many key features (like contracts, cpu trade logic, etc, etc,,,)?

as someone who has blogged semi-professionally (including having the moniker "king of blogging" on one site) for the past 6 or 7 years, i can say without fear of contradiction that most articles take less than an hour to put together. if one just wants to post a few youtubes & a few comments to set em up, less time. some of the past updates appear to be slapped together in less than 15 minutes. and that's fine, it 's the info people want here, not some slick journalistic formatting. templates already make everything neat enough for these purposes.

so...really EA? really? you couldn't post some youtube update showing some more gameplay and just "challenge" people, like in past weeks to "find the new stuff" like they are seeking waldo? really?

every EA employee is working so damn hard that not one could find 15 minutes in a 24 hour day over 3 days to throw something up? really?

y'all are acting like a bunch of lazy stoners more than a company of alleged professionals lately. maybe that's why EA stock, which used to trade @ 55 bucks a share, plunged to around 20 bucks last year (much of the loss coming before the big "financial crisis") and analysts aren't exactly hot on a company that has conered almost every major sports franchise as you would expect. really.

here's EA's stats. one doesn't have to know much about the market to see that they have done little else but go down when they should be strong, stable and solid considering what they have to market.

    really.

i think for franchise (on sunday games only) they should have the cbs football beat playing before the game starts, showing a sky cam view of the stadium, showing the roster during gameplay  etc...

    example: www.youtube.com/watch

    monday night, www.youtube.com/watch

im thinking this song should be for postgame,www.youtube.com/watch

    this for pre-game also,www.youtube.com/watch

its just something that dawned on me that will give the game nfl feel and possibly better introduction.

also for franchise i think that you guys should add something called photos of the week, its just pictures of top plays.

  • warrior310 said June 24, 2009

you guys should include a "show off" rating so it can rate how often this player would go for 1 handed catches.also have them drop some one handed catch attempts.this should also effect the player's celebrations.

this rating should increase as players gain exposure.it should decrease when they get older.

have something where we choose our play style.example, its 40 secs left in the 4th quarter and you are down 7,you should be able to tell your line to block better and the WR's to get open etc... but make it depend on team chemistry. (thats if you added that)

  • nmbr17 said June 24, 2009

  • TreyIM2 said June 24, 2009

There is no update most likely because the devs should be wrapping up the game and getting the bugs minimized by deadline which I am cool with although I wouldn't mind getting an update. The pre-order demo should be out in about a month or less and they will probably give at least one more update to wrap that up, as well, in terms of game devving. There will probably be marketing updates after that.

  • TreyIM2 said June 24, 2009

and Eastwick, the rams had donnie Avery. Hmm, let me guess what you were doing....

  • BlacHaze84 said June 25, 2009

Eastwick08 is a cheeser. He probably rocket catches or does that cross-the-field bomb. I know sumbody who plays with the Lions who has a better record than you Eastwick, but the Lions have Calvin Johnson at Wide. So guess what he's doing, too....

And no, I'm not like most of the top 100 players. I pick a team based on what team you pick. And since you pick the Rams, Why would I pick the Pats or the 'Boys? I'm no bully. And I'm not even gonna tell you my record...it'll scare the crap out of you (and I haven't played Madden 09 in a month). But since you so tuff, meet me on the PS3. Just tell me when you gon' be on. I'll come out of retirement just to teach you to respect your elders.

  • sconn1 said June 25, 2009

    lol blac...good one.

the team one picks in an online game really is not as important as some make it out to be. does it matter a all? sure. but if someone has perfected 1 or 2 "tricks" they know as well as you and i that the players aren't as important as the lil glitch they've discovered.

and knowing your playbook matters SO much more than the particular team you are playing with. especially in an online contest. in fact, i can play the lions real well using the playbooks i already know instead of using the lions playbook. if i use the lions playbook, i admit that i am pretty much lost as i know my playbook in the order it is in to the point where i realy don't have to look at the screen to know what play i a m calling. and jumping from team to team using your native playbook is not as hard as one would think. especially if you are someone who simply runs the same trick, or couple of tricks over and over. it really doesn't matter who is in the FB slot if your game is centered around exploiting the fullback glitch. it really doesn't matter who you are rocket catching with. and it really doesn't matter who the qb is if you are just manipulating AI for cross field bombs.

my 10 year old is a master at this style of game. if someone older than 10 is somehow "proud" of being a cheezer, then more power to em, lol.

also as far as team ratings are concerned, keep in mind that some of the ratings stuff has to do with things that don't really come into play in an online contest as they would over a season. one example would be that if you played an older team or a more injury prone team, that would hurt their overall rating. but in a single contest, odds are that most will remain healthy...and they do, most of the time.

another example, a poor special teams unit can hurt a rating...but again, odds are, that won't affect things much. what probably will affect it more is if the computer decides that 3/4 of your guys are going to fall down or senselessly run the opposite way on a kickoff or punt.

but i ramble...actually, i came on here to see if we finally got an update. no such luck.

then i was gonna b i t c h about the unusually high number of "clock runners" i've been playing the last week. and i certainly have no problem with people using end of game or even end of half strategies, that's fine....but i mean the ones who run 39 seconds from play 1.

it's not that i haven't stopped these clowns and all, it's just gotta be the most annoying thing to deal with. these people don't want to actually "play a game of football" but want to seemingly impress you with the fact they have figured out the math of 5 min quarters and 40 second time clocks + the time they give you in between plays. as if no one ever figured this out in the 20 years of madden football.

i won't even get into the issue that most people who do this  also seem to be 1 or 2 trick ponies, exploiting a glitch they've mastered like my 10 year old.

i sincerely hope SOMETHING is done about this so i don't have to sit thru an hour+ of some lil snot nosed brat abusing everything possible in this game.

  • Tical2399 said June 25, 2009

Bitching because of a blog they are NOT obligated to use/do/participate in? Their jobs are to make the game, not satisfy your needs while you sit around the damn cimputer waiting.

ummm....dipshit....EA advertises this blog on their network and PSN (don't play xbox) (since last january) and promises updates in their ads to come every sunday with an update and begged for feedback(until this week, where they finally changed it to monday...then failed to produce anything).

EA is going to use this blog for marketing purposes after the game comes out....they are going to advertise how they "listened to the fans" and "gave them what they asked for" and all that crap.

most people here who have followed this blog since january have been supportive and even "rah-rah" where appropriate and yes, we criticize where appropriate. and some of us have seen the same lazy patterns here and they seem quite symbolic of the laziness we see in some gaming experiences.

when a company can't meet deadlines, both here and on features like online franchise, which is 1/2 a s s e d and incomplete, it says something about the company.

maybe it's because i'm older and actually have investments and so forth, but i know from experience that how a company conducts itself and shows itself on one front has impacts on all other fronts.

if a company (or individual for that matter) promises me something by a certain date, and then repeatedly fail to deliver, am i going to gain or lose faith in that company?

is a company (or individual) who repeatedly fails in one aspect more or less likely to be successful at other things?

if a company fails and as a consequence, loses revenues, does that make them more or less likely to be able to deliver in the future?

i love madden football. i have played it since it's infancy, and go back to atari and hand held mattel / coleco football games from the 70's. i even grew up with "electric football" that was not much more than plastic guys on a small plastic rectangle base being moved by a vibrating field.

i love football strategy especially. when i was a kid, the best way to "simulate" football were with games from people like avalon hill and strat-o-matic. and i played in leagues as a kid thru my adult years.

as madden has developed and become the biggest football game, i have enjoyed it every time they have made advancements and made the game more realistic than before. but unfortunately, many others like me have been dissapointed in the past couple of years where it almost seemed like in many aspects, madden went backwards.

i don't think i have ever threatened not to buy the game here or anywhere on or offline. i'll plop down 60 bucks. but what i won't do is drop another dime in EA stock. fortunately, i pulled the bulk of my stock out last summer, when it was still around 50. but i still have a small, but significant block that pains me to look at every day floundering around 20 bucks a share.

EA should be a much stronger company. they own SO many franchises it's ridiculous. NFL, FIFA , the sims....

but again...i ramble....this is sooo off topic and i'm bettin most of the youngins don't give a rats ass about this stuff.

bottom line....i'll complain if i damn well please...my concerns are much larger than this blog, but the blog is reflective of EA's other business failings....despite anything i say for or against, you can bet i'll be owning madden 10 on day 1.

Sconn1, I'm with you on the "team chosen" doesn't really have an impact on the outcome of the game. Even though it is hard to match Moss speed for speed if you pick teams like the Packers againgst the Pats. But yea, if you've mastered a trick or two then you can still be in the game. What I'm proud of about my game is that when you check my career stats, under "Favorite Off. Playbook" and "Favorite Def. Playbook", it says "NONE". I play with the playbook the team comes with. I just chose a team and use whatever playbook they come with.

Sconn1, consider yourself lucky you're just running into Milkers. The reason I retired is cause I kept running into QB walkers. This glitch is the worst glitch in gaming history and I'm pretty sure the Madden Team purposely put it in there. As a matter of fact, I've been pushing for a post on online cheaters. They need to give us a way to report these sore losers and send out a patch. I've saved a couple of replays of people QB walking on me just in case they ask for it, but EA doesn't care. My little cousin is 12, and he played an online game at my house a couple weeks back. How much fun do you think he had when he was winning in the 4th, he kicked off, and this bum starts QB walking. Not everybody who plays Madden is over 18. Kids play this, too.

    Donnie Avery(4.28 40)speed 94

    Darius Hayward-Bey(4.30 40)speed 97

    Percy Harvin(4.41 40)speed 97

    Jeremy Maclin(4.48 40)speed 96

and thats wat they ran in the 40 yard dash and the speed is what madden gave them and BTW i know it doesnt really matter anymore bcuz madden 10 is just about done but i had just wanted to point something out that i thought seemed a little kinda funny but hey i'ma still love madden when it comes out

  • Polish21 said June 25, 2009

For the new superstar mode if they still have it if you choose to go to combine if you do good it should raise your draft grade and if you do terrible it should lower it make it more fun to play instead of always get picked third round also if you do not like how the draft went you should be able to alter it in franchise be like head coach where you can change what happend at the draft. Also if the fans could look more realistic that be insane. And also get rid of the dumb rewinds.

  • sconn1 said June 25, 2009

yeah blac, the QB walk certainly sucks. and let me assure you (regrettably) that just about all cheats come from inside unfortuately. if you step back and think about it...hitting a series of buttons or whatever can't really cause something if something wasn't programmed into it. just like everything else in a game, it is all the result of programming.

then it is just a matter of it leaking out one way or another.

it really sucks to think that the people entrusted with not ripping us off in our spending of entertainment dollars are the same people ruining the game for you and many others by 1st allowing programmers to program in glitches and cheats (malevolent ones like qb walking esp.), then turning a blind eye to the problem. and i don't think i have ever seen someone fired or even reprimanded for this. i'd love to turn on G4 one day and see a story about some jerk-off programmer getting fired, fined or something for programming in a code that ruined people's experience with a game.

btw...i am strongly considering as my next "blog project" doing a year of madden blogging. and in that pursuit, i do plan to publish and actively maintain a cheater list, at least for ps3 users (cause that's what i play on and it seems the bulk of madden stuff out there is xbox oriented).

EA is probably afraid of lawsuits if they "falsely accuse" someone or something...

i do hope they incorporate the "sportsmanship" feature that ncaa is getting in some fashion. that may help.

    just some thoughts...take care.

Megatron sounds like an EA apologist.  its simple they made a promise to keep us informed.  you are assuming that they get paid or whatever you want to make up but if they cant keep a simple promise then it shows poorly on them and their regards to us their customers.  Second, not to sound like a grammar police but dude proof read and use spell check!  it hurts to read your posts.  the word is HYPOCRISY not "hypocritacy"

sconn1, Ive also been here since January, so I know everything that went on in this blog.

But you missed my entire point--and fact--of my statement.

It is EA SPORTS job to publish this blog. Not Ian's. Not Raczilla. Dude, anybody could come and post about madden, but because IAn and certain others work with Madden, they are best suited to do it.

However, they are not required to do it.

You said it perfectly. EA markets this blog. EA, EA, Ea...where did I hear Ian or Raczilla or Company? Nowhere. Why? Because IT ISNT THEIR JOB. They were hired to make the damn game, so let them do it.

(my response) ummmm dude....you actually proved my point in your statement. precisely...i NEVER charged any individual with doing this...who are you arguing with? it is EA's responsibility. and they have failed.

just like when i go to a fast food joint and the person at the counter is incompetent. i don't blame them out of hand...i blame their management who neglected their duties to properly train and supervise their employees.

and my points still stand...read em again, maybe you'll get what i was saying. i am talking about a much larger picture than just this blog. but this blog is reflective of many of the corporate woes EA has faced and is facing.

  • sconn1 said June 26, 2009

btw...can anyone answer my co-op question above?

  • sconn1 said June 26, 2009

oh, and not to question anyone's word....but last night i went thru the PS3 top 100 lists so i could check out the records of a couple of players who claim to be "top 100 players." i found no blachaze84 and no xxeastwickxx on the 09 list, monthly and weekly. i looked up and down all of them repeatedly and brought in a 2nd opinion to look. none found.

    please advise....

its so many people who will defend ea to the end no matter how bad of a job they do.i like madden been doing this since 1990 and over all these years i seen this game take one step foward then two steps back.why is it that this game is 20+ years in and we still have to find excuses for why this game is  no where near next gen.this years game was mostly focused on colored cleats, hand warmers which i doubt they even put their hands in,the right facemask you know little things that no one will really pay attention to,dont get me wrong having those things correct is nice but this is a game that is made off of gimicks.qb walk glitch,dl pinch, rocket catch and the no huddle offense where people never seem to get tired.this is my biggest problem with ea the dam glitches and i hope there are few or none this year but imagine that happening one of you scrubs will find something i mean ea sports its in their game.ea why are you guys scared of competition?your faithful ea customers will still buy your game including me but i like to have choices when i go to the store i dont wanna have to buy a sprite i might want a siera mist,i might not want a bag of ruffles im a lays guy.im prettie sure you guys get the point if you guys care so much about the gaming community when the license expires let the competiton comeback and stop being so dam money hungry and thinking of ea all the time.

And I didn't find Eastwick online, so Sconn1 don't give me a fake ID. Let me know what time you gon' be on and I'll be there. East 1.

Too much testosterone on these blogs, some times. Glad that I know that I do have a big penis and don't have to run around trying to prove it to others. Sheesh. Lol...

Anyway, new Madden vid either here www.operationsports.com/videoview.php or here maddennfl.easports.com/cover.action, your choice.

Vid looks sweet except for Warner's drop back. After the CPU finished it's drop back animation for him, he just abruptly stopped on a dime and stood there. No transition bounce animation or anything. That needs work but I'll deal. Madden 10 is looking great, overall, imo.

  • sconn1 said June 26, 2009

blac...i wasn't tryin to call ya out....and if my recollection of you calling yourself a top 100'er in the past 6 months is mistaken, forgive me. i was actually just curious and all...

but i'd enjoy playin ya sometime. i've played a bunch of posters over the last several months and have had some real good games. i always hope to learn something from my opponents to improve my own game. and sometimes, my opponents may learn somethin from me. but if we have a real good contest, we both should learn a thing or 2.

i am currently using a couple different s/n's ...1 in particular, that i've "rehabilitated" since my son managed to rack up a ton of losses with (never let your kid use your s/n is my advice, lol) to get back over 500 is the same one (and my orig btw) i use here, SConn1.

feel free to send me a friend request or meet me in a room. i tend to be in the east rooms or headsets.

i think what may have made me think you said you were top 100 were your comments above where you say "i'm not like most of the top 100 players" kind of implied that you were amongst them. if you weren't trying to imply that, fair enough. but that's the way i read it and i'm willing to bet others would interpret it the same way too. especially in the context along with some of the other comments in that post.

as for you eastwick...my apologies. i guess the above comments by blac pu your rank being top 100 in my head as well. and of course, if you wanna play as well, i'd enjoy that too.

like i said in my previous post on this subject, i wasn't doubting anybodies word...in fact, i figured i got somethin messed up, and it turned out that i did. and of course, i'm always big enough to admit it.

again my apologies to ya both. no malice was intended and i hope all is right with y'all.

    take care:)

  • sconn1 said June 26, 2009

oh yeah...any answer for my co-op question yet? or would we all just rather bicker over non-germaine , non issues?

  • slydelvecio said June 26, 2009

Does anyone know if EA plans on posting anymore updates on Madden. I know Ian is really busy at this time, but has anyone seen something on another site. Why are people still talking about speed ratings? Most of you are probably aweful at the game. People who say the raiders were one of the top 3 teams in the game behind the boys and pats, you are retarded. Have you ever played with the raiders? Speed means nothing if you are terrible at the game and cant use the team. I have beaten many top players who use the pats and boys then they go to use the raiders in a rematch and i blow them out even more. If you can't use speed then the raiders suck for you. Most people who use the raiders onlinedo cheat so their records are good, so if you see someone with a good record and they use the raiders chances are they do cheat, especially in the top 200.

  • xxEastwick08 said June 27, 2009

i was wondering if we import a draft class will the draft have the same concept as the ones dats installed in the game...like finding gems in the late rounds or drafting bust such as ryan leaf...lol in the top 5...if anyone has information let me kno

  • BlacHaze84 said June 27, 2009

Sconn1, to answer your question about the co-op thing: You must team up with another player online. There can't be two players playing online on 1 online account.

And now that I know what you're referring to, I can see how you misunderstood me. What I meant by my statement was that out of the 100 top players online, I've played like 70. Out of those 70, I can only remember 7 being straight up and fair. Out of those 7, I HAD 4 on my friends list that I played on occasion. One of 'em (Frank0131, the #1 ranked player), deleted himself off my friends list because I beat him. He's gay. But the other 60-something top players I've played all have money plays, all know 2 glitches or more, they pick the Pats/Raider/Boys all day, and some even have a avg. lvl opp. of 1. So when I say i'm not like most of the top 100, I'm saying I don't have a go-to play, I don't nano-blitz (like Frank), I don't need a team over 90 ovr. to compete, stuff like that. I play fair.

I hope you didn't take my response offensive, I was just surprised you were looking for me on the top 100. Look at their history, all of them either choose Run-N-Gun, Tamba Bay, or Pass Balanced playbooks and the defense is mostly either Pats, Multiple D, or the 46. The 46 is the easiest to nano-blitz from. But my point is all of them do the same, boring thing. The only thing that seperates the #1 ranked player with the #100th ranked player is the amount of glitches you know.

  • sconn1 said June 27, 2009

no problem blac...no offense taken....it's easy to miss context or actual meanings here on "the internets." lol

and thanks for the co-op answer, even though it was the opposite of the answer i wanted. i really would like to play co-op online with my son. and i'm betting there are some others out there (maybe even some other father / son teams) who have someone close like that, be it family or friend, that they would like to be able to team up with.

one of the really suck-ass things that most every online game has is the fact that it is "1 player" at least as far as the people in the actual room you are playing from is concerned. that means if someone is visiting or in my case, lives there, there is no way for us to play together or compete against each other. our choices are....stop playing online, stop playing altogether or take turns. all i want in this, and many other games, is the ability for me and my son or my guest to be able to compete online against other real people online at the same time.

is that so much to ask?

the only game that i have found where this can be done is army of 2. and they have a very small (almost non-existent) online community. and i personally wasn't very impressed with the game in the first place.

are there any other games (esp sports) where more than 1 person can play online at the same time?

  • sconn1 said June 27, 2009

ESPN will not have another NFL game.

All I'm saying is....why *** and moan about a damn blog. The blog doesnt revolve around YOU, it revolves around the BLOGGER. Hell, every blog does. Therefore, whenever they feel you need info, they will post it. You get mad when they post something inadequate, then when they dont post something because you may feel its inadequate, you *** anyway. If your gonna buy the game, then you are gonna buy it. If not, then your not. If your gonna complain, do it at yourself cause no one wants to hear that BS. I come here to get info, not argue with a lowlife who has time to kill. Yes sconn1, Im talkin about you. Bitching and moanig will get you NOWHERE in life because you are one person. For every one person who cries and whines about ESPN and how much EA sucks, there are 10 who will buy the game simply because they love Madden for WHAT IT IS(One of them is me). If you want mouthpieces and co-op online play and other *** that's "in the game on Sunday" and EA couldnt put in the game, how about you go play REAL football.

But maybe the ones who want these things are too SOFT to play football for real.

P.S. I play football. And I could care less about mouthpieces and visor clips, as long as the game is fun and worthwhile.

So please, the commenting from haters (marquez7890) and crybabies (sconn1) isnt really needed.

And to Rols574 commenting on me spelling HYPOCRISY wrong...dude, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? Ive never seen you on a SINGLE post, yet you say its painful to read mine. I spelled one word wrong.

P.S., I found about 5 or 6 grammatical errors in your SINGLE post.

  • warrior310 said June 28, 2009

megatron,im not trying to argue but if something needs to be in the game let them say what they feel,i thaught ea's slogan was for that purpose "its in the game".

saying that you play football means nothing,i play it too and i recall mouth pieces are a serious part of being safe.your trying to act tough for no reason at all,you just sound like a dumb tool lol.

so your saying im soft because i would like mouth pieces and crap to be in the game also? check out my OS page buddy,www.operationsports.com/warrior310

obviously the game needs help so they made a blog so we can tell them what we want in the game.this is not a fanboy site so we can just tell ea "i love what your doing",this is for freaking ideas man.

i mean what your saying wont change what anyone is doing, like you said "your 1 person and the blog doesn't revolve around you" its the same for you buddy your no different.

im not mad at you or anything but i cant stand to see such an ignorant post.

  • Big-Reb said June 28, 2009

Josh, why aren't button icons assigned to the defensive players, just as they are on the offensive side of the ball?  It takes entirely too long to cycle through defensive players to make adjustments, after the huddle breaks.  I feel that each DB and LB should have it's own icon, in order to speed up the adjustment process.  The technology is there on the offensive side.  How difficult is it to move it over to the defense?  This idea can only help the game as a whole.  Please look into that, or pass the idea on to someone that can possibly make this happen.  Thanks!

  • swillz13 said June 28, 2009

i agree with warrior because the reason the people want this stuff megatron is because it adds to the realism remember them saying "if you see it on Sundays then you'll see it in the game" well i remember dozens of players wearing the mouth pieces and face it the visors look dumb without the clips.

  • JDM9970 said June 28, 2009

I agree it would be great to have the small touches of a mouth piece and clips, but if I had to choose between that or slight improvements to gameplay, I'd have to go w/ the latter.

  • DJackJMac said June 28, 2009

Hey, I know this sounds weird but I would like to know something. I have watched the NFL for a long time and more and more people are wearing the towels around their waist. I think it would be cool if Madden 10 had it available to you to create a player with the towel around their waiste and if players had them. If Madden made this little adjustment this year it would make the game more authentic. Think about it, seeing the little towel waving around a guys waist as he runs 40 yards to the endzone, it would look exactly like on TV or real life. hope you add it!!!

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 28, 2009

warrior310, nah Im not sayin your soft. But can a video game player be safe? Yes, elbow pads are nice because they are visually seen. But if Mouthpieces are put in the game, the cameras would have to be put up close enough on a daily basis to see them, which takes up space. Then, people will want guys to have their certain mouthpiece (Think Sanchez at USC). I--quote me--I think its too much. I fault NO ONEs ideas. warrior310, I actually LOVED your idead earlier in the blog life back around January I think when I was just getting started. I built my thoughts and Ideas off of yours as well as others like swillz, TreyIM2 and another guy, I think.

also i was kinda joking when i said "so your saying im soft because i would like mouth pieces and crap to be in the game also".

  • ImUrDaddy84 said June 29, 2009

I have a question.  On the stats screen, you see every stat on the game for every player.  Can you/did you change that so when we're looking through player stats, we dont have to scroll through say...run block footwork for a safety, or catching for an O-lineman or kicker?  There's a lot of stats that show for positions that doesn't matter.  It would be nice to streamline certain stats for a certain position.

  • sconn1 said June 29, 2009

funny thing happened last night...eastwick started pestering me around midnight or so while i was playing what i thought was going to be my last game (i had played a handfull of games already and i needed to be up and alert @ 6am for a conference call).

after i finished my game, it was round 1am...and i was 1/2 asleep, and he kept insisting...so we played (and as you would expect, he won 21-3 i think the score was...again, my eyes were closing in between plays) ...and to report, while to me, there were some things that i'm not big on, he seemed adamant that i report that he isn't a cheater as some accused him of.

he did like to run a couple of plays some consider kinda cheap, like the sprint out one way to draw the AI and throw across the field...but hey, all our games have their own "wrinkles" and it's real easy to regress to poo-pooing every one else's game. also, whereas he didn't run excessive no-huddles with me, a quick stat check showed 46% no hud and a pretty high hot rt % as well.

but again, that's football and it's real easy to just discount everything someone does as "cheeze."

i did tell east that i'd like to play him again when i am awake.  at 42, i'm probably not the night owl he is, or he plays from another time zone.

i always enjoy playing people i meet on here, i think my record with folks on here is like 10-7 or something, if memory serves me correctly...so it's not about wins and losses...the only time i care about that really is when playing for money. it's just cool that in these days we can indulge in a game with somone 1/2 way cross country or 1/2 way cross the world.

which brings me to the actual reason i am writing this is in reference to the comments above, more like threats, from marquez to others on this forum.

marquez...just what exactly are you trying to prove? if you beat warrior is he then banned from madden? is he required to worship you because you came out on top of him in an exhibition game? puhleeeze, son.

on the s/n i played eastwick, i have about 4 or 500 games recorded. this doesn't include tournament games and such like the holiday and superbowl tourneys that don't show up on your record. in addition, i have 2 other tags that have probably 2 or 300 games each, if memory serves me correctly. that's over a 1,000 games not including tourney games. and to sidenote.... in those games, i've beaten people who were very high ranked and lost to 1's. and quite frankly, really don't see much correlation between ranks, skill levels and how people play. i've had games where a lag had more to do with the outcome than the skill of the players. i've won games on flukes, and lost em the same way. but anyway...point is....

do you really think that 1 game would mean anything more than a good time to people who are longtime players? why the cheap trashtalk, AS IF you were a real football player? as if indeed.

are some folks' world THAT small that this makes em feel all big & important? do you really think that will make people respect you? really? i think some of the kids are in store for a very rude awakening. much ruder than any of their trashtalk could ever deliver.

imitating joey porter or your favorite big mouth doesn't make you look tough. it makes you look like a lil wanabee poser. and regardless of a single game outcome, nothing will change in the real world and all you'll have after the PS3 is shut off is your own jerky self sittin in mom's basement alone.

trashtalk doesn't make you look tough and other people feel scared. quite the opposite. it makes you look scared and really tough people could give a rat's ass. and you become the joke if you don't live up to all your self imposed hype.

all bein a jerk here, online or anywhere does is make you look like a jerk. all it does is make people choose to play one of the other several thousand people available to play instead of you. not because they are scared of you...but just because you are a horse's ass and most people have better things to do than deal with some lil big mouthed brat (regardless of age, there are some brats my age fyi).

of course, if being ignored is somehow a "badge of honor" for you, then by all means, ignore me and every other successful person in this world and keep talkin your lame-ass, copied smack.

  • xxEastwick08 said June 29, 2009

marquez7890,i cant even stand to play 1 online game in madden because it takes long.the only people that i play from here are people i became friends with ,not people that swear that they are the sh*t with no life.i will admit that i have a bad madden online record but i still put up a challenge, all my losses came from bad play in the 4 quarter.

i haven't played madden in months now because its wack,so why waste MY time playing you?

ummm eastwick...true or false...did i not tell you BEFORE we played that i was 1/2 asleep?

    true or false?

i am whining about nothing. and eastwick...you know as well as i do that at the end of the 3rd, our yardage was 153 /130 (wow, a 23 yard diff. really "locked me down" there) ....first downs were 6 -8 (my favor) and top was about 61/2 min for me and about 8+ a few secs for you.

you played a good game east...i take nothin away from ya...

i hardly "ran 2 plays"...i do run alot out of 1 wide set, but i run 5 distinctly different plays from that set in a game. and in any game i usually run 15-20 different plays.

you played a fine game and won...but let's not make more out of it than it is.

as far as here i live goes....i do usually play in my basement...that's where my home theater room is....but sparky, it's my house...i am a married professional with a wife & 3 sons. and if you wanna put money on that, i'd be more than happy to take it from ya. we can play some madden for money too when ya come over, lol. or we can jut play for fun online again when i'm awake, lol.

guys i just seen the road to glory video for ncaa 10 and it lokk super fire check out this video ncaafootball.easports.com/home.action madden should put something like this in madden 10 superstar mode

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 29, 2009

I wont say Im the best player in Madden. Yes, I used (when I had Gold--gotta get paid to get it again--) the Steelers, Ravens and Cowboys. But I dont cheeze. However, how you play doesnt matter. All that matters is winning.

Cheezers are the easiest players to play against, Ive found. Yes, sometimes they will beat you on cheezing, but you can win if you capitalize off of the couple of INTs they are bound to throw. For example, Ill play with the Steelers or Ravens and control Polamalu/Reed simply becasue they are gonna use the speed WR to get deep ball....I kno how to play those guys well.

Therefore sconn1, even if Eastwic is a cheezer, respect his game becasue that's the best way for HIM to win. Skilled players can usually control the clock and capitalize off of mistakes, but they are usually high scoring affairs. But trying to cheeze someone back will get you nowhere.

  • swillz13 said June 29, 2009

the thing i always find funny is the guy who is doing the trash talking usually is the one getting beat

  • swillz13 said June 29, 2009

ohh yeah and i agree with u warrior about the clips that madden made i mean they did a pretty slack job on them whoever makes the visors for ncaa does a good job on them even though the clips are a little big

i think madden 10 is gonna be more about your knowledge of football and thats what i've been waiting 4 all my life, so nomore about your madden gaming skills its about your knowing of the game so that means if Mike Tomlin plays he'll be able 2 beat alot of guys because of is knowledge of futie futie football

if they can change anythin with the online fran. then why dnt they add cap room having a franchise without cap room is stupid...wheres the realism at???

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 29, 2009

I have to say, the most eye-opening thing was the actual EXPLANATION of awarness. Now, I see why my rookie nickel corner didnt swat that pass that went right in front of him. LOL.

Also, does anyone plan to start a league on the 360 for Madden? I want to just get in one. I dont know how that would work, but if you do I can give my email for future reference...

  • jellybean3454 said June 29, 2009

xxEASTwick08 i'm pretty sure they will add cap room because the online franchise is server based so anything new they wanna add 2 online franchise all they have 2 do is make it even wen madden 10 has already been released, so i think thats their 1st priority because they said whatevers they most asked thing 2 be added 2 online franchise after the release the would add it 2 that

  • jellybean3454 said June 29, 2009

if anyone who wants 2 join an online franchise go to this site i advise u 2 hurry up because there is only 13 teams left and ppl are joining very fast

    midwestmadden.yolasite.com

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 29, 2009

guys, criticizing the guys for not adding something is ridiculous. Eastwick, your statement insinuates that you believe his job is easy. Look, I work at a youth center, and changing a garbage can outside at the parks during an event we had was hard. Jus sayn....you have no experience in the field, so dont judge what some things can anf cannot be done.

For example, to show that space isnt unlimited and some things take up more than others, if you read the gameshark update, you wouldve saw that the Bucs' pirate ship skull took almost 5000 polygons, which is about one PS2 GAME!. That's a game for that little skull. So think, one Ps2 game was needed just to make a skull, which you see not that many times, which was added just to add realism. So realize that, while your arguments are valid, that saying (and basically assuming) they COULD HAVE put it in but didnt because of laziness is crazy. Im pretty sure if you wanted it in, they did also because they have to satisfy fans.

  • xXmEgAtrOnXxDK said June 29, 2009

ok....for those who shamelessly defend EA and b i t c h about people actually calling them out when they are less than truthful or genuine...here ya go....

apparantly Ian and the boys are too busy (according to the "experts" here) to even write a blurb about 10 last week (and folks, it's tues of the NEXT week without an update..in other words, no updates for the last 16 days) on this blog, which they advertise as "the place" to get updates on PSN and other places.

but alas...they did have time to write...just didn't have time to even reprint it here...wow they must be rEAl busy, lmfao!

here's yesterday's gamestop blog....for the 2nd week in a row, an EA person, including this week, ian himself, found plenty of time to write and provide info that hasn't been provided here....

    Gamestop.com - Blog

    June 29, 2009 1:45pm

Editor's Note: Last week, we enjoyed a guest column from Madden NFL 10 Art Director Michael Young, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the Madden NFL 10, intro video, starring Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu. This week, we're delighted to have another guest columnist, Madden NFL 10 Lead Designer Ian Cummings, who will explain a new feature, the ability for a defensive lineman to realistically tip passes.

In any given year of Madden, we as a design team are tasked with coming up with all kinds of new and innovative ways to recreate NFL football. You could easily say the job of the design team every year is to come up with the ideas and features that make the previous iteration of the game feel obsolete. You may already be aware that a new design team jumped on board for Madden NFL 10, which shifted our focus a bit.

We still have the goal of making a great game that will overshadow the previous one, but this year we decided the best thing we could do would be to focus on creating an accurate NFL simulation above all else. We didn't need new meters or icons or any random fluff feature — we took a hard look at Madden NFL and focused our improvements into any area that we thought wasn't correctly emulating what happened in the NFL. Our mantra all year has remained the same — "Everything You See On Sunday, See It In Madden NFL 10".

That brings me to this seemingly small addition, "Tipped Passes at the line". On its own, this may sound like a lower-priority improvement (I thought so, too, initially), but in reality, this one addition has added a wealth of strategy, drama and fun to the game that was missing before. How did we do it? Well, it’s simple enough… the very first thing we did was add some intelligent logic for defenders to put their hands up to try and bat down passes. When we put this in initially as a prototype, nearly every pass got batted down at the line. D'oh! So we went scouring through NFL footage to find some more accurate percentages of how many passes are tipped, who does the tipping and when it happens, so we could tune our numbers more realistically. Then we also decided to tie the likelihood (and accuracy) of the bat-down to the Awareness rating of the defensive lineman.

Once we re-worked those numbers, we knew we had a pretty good realistic addition, but defenders were just smacking the ball right back into the face of the QB every time they got their hands on it. We really wanted to re-create that "wow" moment that happens every so often when a ball gets tipped and floats up in the air, up for grabs by any player. It is such a huge, suspenseful moment in real life! So we then went to work on modifying the physics of the ball if it collided with the hand of the DL. We added support to detect the collision point and whether it collides anywhere around the fingers of the player, based on the speed of the pass the ball can get deflected and float up in the air, instead of bouncing back in towards the QB. So after a few iterations and some tuning, we had basically turned what initially we thought was a really small addition into a real game-changer.

Playing quarterback in Madden NFL 10 now has this whole new wrinkle of strategy that has never existed in franchise history — you actually have find open passing lanes. We added accurate QB throwing styles to this year's game as well; so you have to be careful with the guys like Rivers and Romo that have a lower release as they can get their passes batted down more often. This addition also makes height relevant for the very first time — guys like Manning and Roethlisberger that tower in the pocket back there and have a high release have much less of a problem dealing with the linemen in front of them, where you have to do a lot more thinking with a guy like Garcia.

That’s it for this week folks. I hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at how this addition came to be in Madden NFL 10, and personally, I can’t wait for you guys to get your hands on it.

Editor's Note: We'll all get our chance to get our hands on it when Madden NFL 10 releases August 14. Thanks, Ian!

  • swillz13 said June 30, 2009

one question i got to ask is when the pass gets tipped say it gets hit back towards our qb will he actually try to catch or will he just stand there like an idiot and let it hit him??

do you get what i'm saying

I'm sick of people asking for colors cleats and mouthpiece your act like your really be paying attention 2 that s h i t

for example why in the fuc k would u want visors clips you act like the camera will be zooming in they face and stuff

your need 2 start asking for good stuff to put in the game not these small stupid stuff that people wont even notice

people want that stuff because they wanna feel like they are really watch the real deal and if you dont want that stuff go buy a ps2 and buy 2k5 football isnt that what you like rite because what you are saying you dont care how they graphics looks are the cool equipment are features so go buy a game like 2k that doesnt have great graphics but just football playing with no good camera angles

and you said this is the only football game you can buy well that should really make you shut up because regardless how the game comes out your gonna still buy it so your wasting your time sayng the game sucks so the best thing to do would be just be quiet and quit commenting and wait till it comes out and keep buying it like you always do and i hope madden stays here forever forget that gay 2k football

  • jellybean3454 said July 01, 2009

And HurricaneT your not obligated to be on this site which means your not forced are something you have to do because i'm pretty sure you come here on your on will but i could understand you saying its the only football game thats why you buy it but when you said you gotta come on this site that confuses me because you really dont have to

  • jellybean3454 said July 01, 2009

and HurricaneT you said you leave good comments do you think your the only one who leaves good comments and its prolly like 8 million people trying to tell them what to add and do you think they can listen to everybody and who would listen to what you have to say if your starting off by being rude because thats even in life if you come to somebody in a wrong way they not gone listen to what you have to say

and you say they dont listen to people then tell me why they added online franchise, color cleats, color gloves, more helmets, more facemasks, towels, hand warmers, online co-op, better camera angles, better cut scenes, lesser interceptions when a player was never looking at the ball, Lb's not jumping so high, better game speed, all uniform colors, pre game show, halftime show, after game interviews, player progression on franchise mode, better cpu logic, adaptive AI, forced qb drop back, less effective qb sneak, less effective fb run, better pass blocking, better run blocking, better pass rushing, better cut scenes, super bowl banners, super bowl patches, flying jets during playoff games, national athem i bet ya'll didnt even know they added that, players rating really mean something know, visor clips, qb avoidance stick, better recievers inbound catches, routes actually being ran rite, 5 to 10 gang tackling, more qb ratings, sorry qbs' being less effective, etc. i can go on and on

so you tell me if they are listning are not and your just mad that they prolly didnt add something you wanted bet sad to say bro the world doesnt revolve around you

someone posted it @ madden lab

    www.themaddenlab.com/.../35661-pittsburgh-steelers-full-roster.html

What better way to start this out than with "Big" Ben Roethlisberger who is a 93 Ovr with 85 strength, 92 aware, Thp 93 and Tha 88. We take you to their RB's as Willie Parker(86 Ovr, 95 spd, 85 aware).Davis is a decent FB with 77 Ovr.

Now we head to their WR'ng core as they are pretty good with Ward(90 Ovr, 82 spd,77 str, 96 aware) and Homes(86 Ovr,93 spd,84 aware) with Miller in the middle(88 Ovr, 70 spd,83 aware).Newly acquired McDonald brings speed to the Wr'ing core with 92 speed. Their O-Line is below average at best!

Now, we take you to their #1 ranked defensive unit starting with DPOY Harrison(97 Ovr,85 spd,87 str and aware), partner in crime Woodley(88 Ovr, 82 spd, 83 str,76 aware), Farrior comanding the middle(95 Ovr,75 spd,86 str,95 aware), and Timmons who should be the fastest of the group with 74 Ovr and 78 spd. This team LB unit is so strong that it will be hard to hold a block on these guys which is the strength of the team.

I take you to their D-Line which is great, starting with Smith(91 Ovr, 90 str,95 aware) and Hampton(91 Ovr, 98 str,93 aware) and Keisel(76 Ovr,86 str,84 aware. It will be hard as hell to run on this team, just like real life!

We move on to their secondary starting with the man, Troy P.(99 Ovr,93 spd,91 aware). Taylor(86 Ovr,87 spd,84 aware) and Townsend(82 Ovr,79 spd,91 aware) are the Cb's with Clark(83 Ovr,81 spd,85 aware) at the FS position! They have a good backup at SS with Carter(80 spd,82 aware)!

Well since there are no new posts and this is supposed to be the place to communicate with the developers, here is my suggestion:

This may be more for next year, but there needs to be a stat category that takes into account chemistry. While at least this year the Cowboys aren't the second best team in madden they are still ranked too high. They finished 9 and 7 and completely missed the playoffs and are ranked at 85 while the Panthers finished 12 and 4 and are ranked at 83. I know more goes into it than that, but the Cowboys haven't performed to expectations in years.

  • swillz13 said July 02, 2009

yeah i agree with u. because i saw the thing for the giants and their DB's unit is ranked 6th in the game even though they don't got any good db's last time i checked is was the weak spot on their defence. but i know that won't change because im pretty sure one of them is a giants fan.

  • Rols574 said July 03, 2009

    swillz13,

    Really?

you think the Giants DB are ranked high because one of them is a fan?

    Really?

So they would shaft a whole customer base (which they do but not in this case) for the need of ONE?

    Really?

Im a huge Madden fan.  Ive always bought the game the first day it was released and even did the midnight thing a few times.  But this lazy attitude has me second guessing whether ill buy it again.  This behavior is really disheartening.  I think ill rent it first and see if they will receive my money this year.

Hey i love what you guys are doing its great but 1 problem i had was the Draft pick signing logic. I think that if you a re a late second round pick them you should be singed like it. i didnt like wen i draft a guy 27 overall and had to pay him 60 million

COOLKID_15, they have adressed that problem way back when.

  • warrior310 said July 03, 2009

i would like them to have rookie training camp after the draft before you sign them.

like until you are sure that you want the player they should have him on your roster but with 0 years on his contract.

the side throwing style in the game is like tony romo's release.

i posted this on another site...what do ya'll think of these suggestions to "weed out" cheezers and cheaters...?

we probably won't, but i'd like to see some additional stats readily available....

    1) % a player goes for it on 4th down (are they going to go for it all or most of the time)

    2) a graphical representation of where a player throws or runs to (do they run the same play over and over or do slight variations that are essentially the same play over and over or combination of a few plays over and over)

    3) average time used from when the play clock is started till when ball is snapped (to expose the clock abusers)

    4) give me those and the rest of the stats over their last 10 or 20 games instead of only "over the whole career." a player might have started off legit, but along the way discovered glitches / cheats / etc... career stats sometimes bury this for a good long time.

    what do ya think?

oh, and by the way, what is it....19 days (almost 3 weeks) since the last update?

  • HurricaneT said July 04, 2009

you know what would be cool online if you able to play a game with 11 of your  friends and another 11 on the other team at different position like for example before you start the game you have to pick two position to play in the game like if i pick Qb and cb then i stay at that position the whole game so my color gone be highlighted at that position

I think nba live 09 have this on there online

hey all...i've been doing a lil posting and reading over at the "madden lab" since posts here have dried up. this morning i read a post and a reply from the alleged "godfather" on that site (who's balls probably just dropped last month) and it really disturbed me. the "godfather" threatened banishment and closed a thread on qb walking where someone had heard a rumor that it would be back in 10 and was concerned about it.

so i am using (maybe abusing) this and about 2 dozen other sites where i can repost my thoughts on a fresh thread. i wanted to repost it as a matter of record in case the lil "godfather" decided to wipe my thoughts off the board to protect his own fragile lil ego....

    Hello,

I discovered this site via a link (guerrilla advertisement) from the madden blog that has been posting weekly updates (if ya don't count the last few weeks) since january.

so for the past couple of weeks, while i prepare and anticipate the release of madden 10, i've been checking things out and jumping in a few of the convo threads. probably like a lot of y'all.

and for the most part i've enjoyed it. picked up a couple of tips here and there and got some positive feedback on a few of the ideas i had as well.

then, this morning i check out a thread about qb walking. apparantly some guy heard some unsubstantiated rumours at a party about it still being avail in 10 and was most disheartened at the news. so he asked the question whether or not it's true.

and he took a bunch of flack, as you might expect on a message board, but that wasn't the problem. the problem came when i read the threat of "banishment" for asking this question from the fuy who apparantly runs this site. being banned for asking a question? really? is that what this site is about?

i'm sorry but qb walking is about as sleazy of a thing that i have ever seen. not only in videogames, but in anything competitive. and the fact that EA allowed their programmers to program in such a glitch (yes, cheats are always an inside job, but we don't complain when the cheat gives us an advantage) and refuses to offer a fix for it is a travesty. and if someone has a concern about it, then mock it if some want to do, but this authoritarian strongarming is ridiculous and the act of someone who probably doesn't have the maturity to run such a site. or is so far up someone at EA's butt that they don't realize how this intimidation looks.

and it looks putrid. i wanted to comment on my disgust there, but the thread had been closed, which was also disheartening.

anger shouldn't be focused on someone with a concern that for another year, people will have to put up with what is the cheapest, sleaziest and downright disgusting move in gaming...the qb walk cheat.

the anger and concern should be on EA's programmers and executive that allow such crap to continue. the fact that this cheat wasn't fixed last winter is a crying shame. and sites like this should be screaming from the mountaintops demanding EA fix this sleaze.

this post will probably ruffle the pseudo authorities here, so i'll tell ya what, go ahead and ban me if this threatens you and your lil site so much. please...pretty please w/ sugar on top.

because i really have no interest in contributing my thoughts in a place where i have to be at all concerned with these types of juvenile pouting and lashing out whenever something is said that you don't like. and i'm still trying to figure out WHY you took such offense to someone simply asking a legitimate question about a sickening, pathetic cheat that has ruined the game for so many.

as they say, there are plenty of other fish in the sea...btw...i will be reposting this thread on many other sites including the official madden blog cause i assume my words will be wiped out here. u do what u need 2 do.

if this glitch is still in madden 10 it will eliminate everything we see on sunday it will eliminate we are not catering to cheesers.why would i not be suprised if this glitch or any other one makes it into madden this year?this is what madden has given us for years but yet you madden fan boys continue to defend them, dont get me wrong i like madden especially when i can find someone who plays fair but i have never played a game that has so many glitches.i think its time for the nfl and everyone else to realize ea sucks at making games and should be forced to share the license competition has never hurt anyone well unless your ea of course.i was so excited for madden 10 this year from the start of things but now its like yeah whatever ill check it out but i am starting to expect nothing but the worst from this game.its going to take more than pretty cleats, towels, numbers on helmets, and some dam cut scenes to make this game right and the main thing should be these glitches not once did anyone from ea mention the qb walk being fixed leading me to believe it will be there this year.to those who defend ea and their glitches is probably some of you so called top ballers who all glitch to be considered a top baller when it comes to playing straight football im one of the best.(not bragin)but its time for us good straight ballers to shine and if ea does not make a game where we can accomplish this then i will have to fall back from football games until we get more options.btw backbreaker looks good.

no wonder no new updates...but im mad they put a bum to replace Ian...

EA Sports President Peter Moore announced today that Madden NFL 10 Lead Developer Ian Cummings would miss the rest of the current development cycle after being diagnosed with an advanced case of carpal tunnel syndrome.

"It was a tough call, but we decided we couldn't jeopardize the rest of his career just for the benefit of these final few weeks of development," Moore said. "Of course Ian, being the trooper that he is, wanted to keep working, but his potential is just too great to take that risk."

It is believed Cummings developed the condition while typing non-stop to answer the estimated 2,400 questions asked of him every day in the OS Madden forums. Security video from inside the EA Sports office appears to show Cummings wincing in pain as he types out a response to yet another question about facemasks.

"I just felt it was important to answer all of the questions the community has, even if it is the tenth time I've discussed the color of the trim on the Dolphins' alternate jerseys," Cummings said.

The injury forced EA Sports to dip into their depleted minor league system, calling up Dennis Waverly, who last worked on NASCAR Thunder 2003, to replace Cummings.

"Yeah, football, I've seen that on TV a couple times," Waverly said. "That Vinny Testaverde is one hell of a player."

Cummings is scheduled to have corrective surgery performed next week by Dr. Lewis Yocum, and is tentatively scheduled to return just in time to get flamed for not rating Knowshon Moreno high enough by some guy with 3 posts.

    Referring to this:

Q:  Will coaches effect progression? For example it seemed like the Ravens and Steelers could draft LBer after LBer and most of them would become at least solid players.

A: Coaches, especially elite coaches, do impact a player’s ratings in Franchise Mode. Coaches like D. LeBeau will give a constant increase to certain player ratings in-game and when games are simmed, effectively making players on their team better all the time. You can see the impact they make in the player management screen. You’ll notice a little plus sign and a number next to the ratings they are increasing.

I think where this would be especially realistic is where elite coaches can actually raise the potiential of a player and not just their ratings.  I would also like to see User Controlled actions affecting players ratings a bit more.  For example, if a player get 10 INT in a season, and 9 are user picks, the ratings for that part of their game (plus the over all player rating) get more enhanced that a player with, say, 12 INT that are all user picks, so in essence rewarding for User Control to discourage users for selecting a FS and letting the AI do all the work.  I mean if they want to sit on a FS fine, but their players will get minimal attribute increases.  Doesn't have to be a huge difference, just enough to motivate people to be involved.  Also more user controlled play AND good team management should increase the Coaches attributes and bringing in top Vets and draft picks potientially increase the coaches potiential.  This simulated real football where coaches cam make players better and players can make coaches better, and round we go...

  • Draegon Shade said July 12, 2009

I don't know about that, Jackmouve.

A player's potential rating should be considered their physical and mental absolute peak. They simply don't have any more talent.

An Elite coach should be able to make them REACH that cap quicker, but not artificially inflate it.

You can motivate me all you want, but i'll never be able to do certain things. :)

Hey Ian & the rest of the Madden 10 team; thanks 4 listening 2 our ideas the game looks SICK. I noticed that Matt Stafford has his facemask 4rm college and every other player looks like their real-life counter part. The only last suggestion that I have regarding franchise mode iz that we should be able to see the head coach walking the sideline and the coordinators pumping the guys up. Also I would like it if the teams could rebuild stadiums elsewhere when contracts run out with the city we can build another one by raising revenue and we should be able to relocate the same team to a different city such as how th L.A. Rams located to St. Louis. The way the game is shaping up Im going to be rushing from my mourning classes in college bak to my dorms 2 play Franchise ALL DAY!!!

There is a screenshot here that shows the new hub for the Franchise Menu screen.

Below that is the Madden 09 menu screen, where highlighted is the "Front Office" and to the right, you can see "Finances."

In Madden 09's instruction booklet, it stated that there was a "new" Front Office mode and that you could control your organization's finances.

    Hogwash.

You boys at EA can add back all the logic you want, improve the animations all you want, and supposedly make drafting and scouting as good as it used to be...but if the new Finances screen on that fancy new hub is nothing more than a blank, non-interactive screen where I can do nothing but look at my expenses, then you certainly aren't getting my sixty bucks this year.

I give you credit Josh for working on the logic and some of the flaws in the last few iterations of the game--in particular I love the fact that you guys will make playoff games feel like playoff games.

But what the heck is up with your company eliminating key features of Franchise/Owner Mode compared to the old-gen versions?  The last four years of Madden on next-gen systems have had completely lackluster Franchise Modes, and it seems instead of fixing some of the core problems with it, you're tacking on Online Franchise to shut up a focus group that never actually played offline Franchise Mode.

If the PS2 version of a game lets me adjust ticket prices, concessions, etc, but the PS3 and 360 versions do not, something is wrong.  Something is doubly wrong when I can alter my stadium with upgrades or even move my team to a far away city but cannot change the price of a ticket.  Something is triply wrong when an instruction booklet says "New Front Office Mode" only to have the same boring expense sheet as the year prior, one that a player literally cannot influence one iota.

    Bring back Tony Bruno.

    Bring back hot dog prices.

Bring back Owner Mode within the Franchise Mode.

But nope.  Instead of letting next-gen players do what they so often did on the ancient-gen systems, they go and give us Online Franchise.

Notice in the FAQ up above, there was no mention of ticket prices, concessions, etc.  Am I the only one who cares?  I can't be.  I've seen and heard others commenting on it.  What evil producer decided to take that out of the next-gen development?  What money do they save not keeping that in there?  Who do they make happy keeping it out?

The biggest thing I miss in franchise mode is being able to use my own created playbook. Can It happen soon?

  • Tical2399 said August 13, 2009

I've had the full game since last Thursday (8/6/09) Its good so far but lots of the stuff people wanted to see still didn't make it in. The half time show is a joke. They still are not making the most of that ESPN license they have rights too.

I must admit the drafting logic is much better. I had the 1st pick in the draft in my franchise and i was able to trade down to about 6 and still got my guy just by looking at the teams in front of me and seeing what they needed and what they were likely to pick. Same with the free agency stuff.

The injuries have been ramped up to make people more likely to buy the accelerators (injury prevention). Also I think they made it easier for CPU defenses to rush the QB so that people will be forced to use that QB avoid stick. Then again i've been playing as the 49ers so weak line play may be an issue with that.

I only brought an Xbox 360 for the sole purpose of Madden. Im seeing my only game, and favorite game just get better and better, but damn...why did they take away the training mode!!!!! Not even worth playing a Franchise anymore now...I got through 8 games of my first season and then simulated the rest of the season hoping I would get to train my players at some point...never happened. Why even have the games on there if you can't train your players? All my friends agree but they dont want to go thru the process of making an account just to complain about it. Well here I am speaking for all 23 of us....Im sure we arent the only ones who want that training mode back.

THE FRANCHISE MODE THIS YEAR IS SUBERB BUT MY ONLY ISSUE WITH THE GAME IN GENERAL IS THE CUSTOMIZATION. YOU SHOULD HAVE THE OPTION TO KEEP YOUR TEAM LOGOS AND UNIFORMS IF YOU DO MOVE YOUR TEAM TO A DIFFERENT AREA AND YOU SHOULD BE ABBLE TO OUTLINE HELMET STRIPES AND JERSEY NUMBERS. ALONG WITH THIS SHOULD BE A MORE IN-DEPTH STADIUM CUSTOMIZATION OPTION FOR CURRENT STADIUMS AND CREATED ONES. THE STADIUM UPGRADES SHOULD ALSO BE MORE NOTICEABLE AFTER THEY ARE PURCHASED .

ALL IN ALL, THANK YOU FOR A GREAT IMPROVEMENT AND I HOPE THAT IN THE NEXT MADDEN MOVEMENTS AND HITS WILL CATER MORE TO SIZE, RATING DIFFERENCES, PHYSICS, AND GRAVITY.
