good soundtrack but whats up with the hip hop selection, its terrible.i like the nas and puff daddy song though.

  • BillTheMac said July 25, 2009

Tupac on the sound track.. What!? lol I like it but, I think that song is a little too hard for Madden.

How about adding: Nate Dogg - Nobody does it better

  • GHsu said July 25, 2009

sorry guys, but i'm just going to give my honest critique here. I apologize ahead of time if this ends up to be a longish read, but I just feel that I should speak up about it. this is the most disappointing Madden soundtrack I've seen. I've only played Madden since 2004 and a little of 2002, but I liked all the soundtracks more than the one you're putting in Madden 10. I realize that you can't please everybody, but I felt that in the past, you at least tried. I feel like it's been a trend for the last few seasons, but it really seems like the soundtrack is really taking a turn towards the heavy metal/rock genres. this year seems to be the year when you guys went pedal to the metal, so to speak.

some of my favorite soundtracks were 2004-2006, not because I loved every song on the playlists, but because there was a lot of variety in the selections. I don't listen to heavy metal or hard rock, so of course I'm not going to like a soundtrack that's heavy, or completely, rooted in those songs. I like bands like Yellowcard, Hoobastank, Franz Ferdinand, and even The All American Rejects, Dashboard Confessional, and Fall Out Boy just because they balance out the selection. There isn't even a lot of hip hop on here, though the Tupac song is probably worth some kudos, so you're really just going after one type of listener with this soundtrack.

I know this is Madden and not Rock Band or Guitar Hero, so it's not like I'm not going to purchase the game based on the songs, but I hope that you can take into consideration the lack of variety for future Maddens- I'm sure that I'm not the only one. I would just like to see a couple more not-so-"hardcore" songs on there so I don't have people screaming at me and guitars and drums blaring in my eardrums constantly when I'm trying to re-order my depth chart on franchise, you know?

this all said, I've read that we're going to be able to purchase music to play on Madden as DLC. I play on the PS3, so if there's no feature to add music from my hard drive to the game a la MLB The Show, this might help me out a bit. but while that's cool and all, and you could say that you have me covered as long as the DLC adds the variety I'm looking for, I would love not to have to pay for it just to have some tunes I like listening to during the game.

once again, I apologize for being long-winded about a soundtrack, but I feel like you take the feedback on these forums to heart, so I felt the need to say something so you know people like me are out there. can't wait for the actual game to come out!

  • JKLtaurus said July 25, 2009

Mix ain't too bad, but what ever happened to the Madden intro songs? madden 2000 w/ Luda was/is one of the greatest songs to ever be played on Madden

  • mac0505 said July 25, 2009

There is way to much rock and thrash... not enough anything else.. this years selection sucks

  • swillz13 said July 25, 2009

well hopefully we'll be able to use our own songs. like a custom soundtrack

  • 1776Now said July 25, 2009

not the best sound track but then again it's EA.  back to business.  i think that we are going to miss having the light bulb under the players with a high play recognition.  i think there was potential there but EA botched it.  i went into lab and proved there wasn't really any math behind the smart weapon.  i found no matter what a player's play recognition rating(90-99) they could read the play on the 5th time it was run.  this is what they should have done(and still could):

Play Recognition(98-99): player can read the opponents play the 3rd time it is used

Play Recognition(96-97): player can read the opponents play the 4th time it is used

Play Recognition(94-95): player can read the opponents play the 5th time it is used

Play Recognition(92-93): player can read the opponents play the 6th time it is used

even if they don't have light bulb smart players should still anticipate a play accordingly to my chart above.  for example, ray lewis has a 99 play recognition.  the 3rd time your opponent runs FB dive out of I(3WR) ray lewis should automatically crash hard into the line of scrimmage stopping the play in it's tracks.

  • xxEastwick08 said July 25, 2009

the light bulb thing is stupid...

  • HurricaneT said July 25, 2009

stupid songs where is the rap music like wayne or ti

  • 1776Now said July 25, 2009

EASTwick - the light bulb thing is kinda stupid.  but, ray lewis(and other smart players) should be programmed to autmatically read the play.  they do in real life why shouldn't they in a video game?

  • BlacHaze84 said July 25, 2009

I thought the 2pac selection was a little hard for Madden, but I love it. There's too much rock, though. Don't get me wrong, I like Rock. One can even make the argument that Rock goes better in depicting the mood of Football as a sport (much like how Hip Hop is best suited for Basketball). But I think there should have been a more balanced playlist. I'm glad there ain't no Lil' Wayne, but I'm surprised there's no Black Eyed Peas.......(lol).

  • BlacHaze84 said July 25, 2009

Oh, and the light bulb thing was genius. It exposes so-called "Madden Players" for the same-play abusers that they are. Some guys just REFUSE to pick another play. And the lightbulb (which you CAN turn OFF if you don't like it) forced them to either pick another play and make it interesting, or I will know what you're doing and stop it with a much higher success rate.

  • WhoDeyDelight55 said July 25, 2009

Don't like the soundtrack at all quite a few of the songs have been in soundtracks and/or been in rock band/ guitar hero.

    Thank goodness for mp3 players.

  • TimmahNZ said July 25, 2009

ok - time to make a comment

  • TimmahNZ said July 25, 2009

guys - this is one of the best soundtracks ever. Madden soundracks have always had a flavour to them - if there is too much variety the soundtrack as a whole does not flow. "old school bringing it hard" seems to be the theme this year and that fits perfectly with the fight for every yard tag. the game itself seems to be moving towards a raw - gaget free sim style smashmouth football game - what every true football and madden fan has always wanted. This soundtrack seems to acknowledge those of us who have been franchise supporters since the early 90's as quite a few songs are from OUR era. Not everyone will be happy with it, but not everyone will ever be happy with it - madden fans are a diverse bunch with varying tastes in music - we're different people from all around the world. if you don't like it, turn the music down or select the songs you don't want to play from your settings, this is what we've always had to do - hopefully they'll include the NFL films songs to choose instead - pretty sure they please everyone.lol Great soundtrack, those who don't like it just need to accept that it is OUR time to  enjoy it - maybe it will be venga boys and Aqua next year - or maybe not.lol - MADDEN is awesome.

  • warrior310 said July 25, 2009

they went too hard with the rock, they should have put in more rap songs and a better song with tupac.being that they added tupac, they could have added biggie lol.

they should have put in "freak on a leash" by korn, thats one of my faves as well as "like a stone" by audioslave.yall could youtube the songs im talking about.

  • warrior310 said July 25, 2009

why did they cancel out wale the rapper?

check out one of his latest songs.

    www.youtube.com/watch

  • riley82 said July 25, 2009

I don't love the soundtrack but I also don't hate it either. I think its choked with rock and metal, could use a little more hip-hop/r&b/rap to diversify the soundtrack. In addition, I love Tupac as much as the next guy but I think that song is goes too hard for Madden. I think they should've saved that one for when they come out with a hit stick 3.0 lol. But its a decent soundtrack none-the-less. If the game plays nicely and is fun i can care less, I'll just listen to my iPod when I'm not playing games if its gets really annoying. :)

  • NextGenGamer24 said July 25, 2009

Heads Are Gonna Roll,Them Bones and Duality are probably the best.I dont even like hard rock, but somehow alot of Airbourne's songs I can listen to.And man Slipknot sure sounds alot like Nickelback,LOL.The Kid Rock song sounds catchy but the whole "Bullgod" thing makes no sense.

But really most of the rap/hip-hop selection is not good.I think the hip-hop selection last year was much better. But overall not a bad soundtrack.Actually its pretty good.

  • 44CornerBlitz,44CornerBlitz said July 26, 2009

Personally, there are songs I like and hate every year. If there's one thing that absolutely doesn't matter to me about Madden, it's the soundtrack. Two buttons and you're on to the next song. Downloadable content would be nice, but I'm not going to lose sleep over when this gets put in. I'm far more interested in the gameplay, animations, and even though I know it's not going to make it in this year (I read the interview at GameShark), the roster stuff needs to be fixed for next year. If this year is as good as advertised, the roster limitations are really the only huge obstacle left.

  • livinadream said July 26, 2009

The soundtrack should have some Hollywood Undead!

  • swillz13 said July 26, 2009

i say for the next madden u guys should have a blog and we can leave u guys some suggestions eh?

  • warrior310 said July 26, 2009

they should have had last resort by papa roach.their hip hop selection was terrible.they had only 3 rap songs.

they should let us choose songs for them to add like a forum or something.

  • warrior310 said July 26, 2009

im kinda disappointed by the soundtrack now that i look at it,they put all that rock but left out limp bizkit and they got 3-4 rap songs.

  • purdman4 said July 26, 2009

This soundtrack is legendary! I don't know what you guys are talking about! Sure it deviates from the traditional Madden sountrack, but this is for the better. Anyone who thinks there are only 3-4 rap songs and wants Lil' Wayne is nuts. PE, Cypress Hill, Tupac, Nas & Diddy are in the top 25 rap artists of all time. Young Dre and B.O.B. add some newer hip hop to the mix, and the Beastie Boys contribute their classic NYC sound. I'd imagine all the hard rock will grow on us in this game.

  • warrior310 said July 26, 2009

who said i wanted lil wayne's music in the game?please,i know real rap when i hear it.they added 4 rap songs and what 100 rock songs?i mean the rap selection was wack, they could have picked a better tupac song and have more rap.thats all im trying to say, dont try and act like i dont know who nas, diddy, pac and so and so is,its just my opinion.

they should have balanced out the rap and rock, half and half.

  • Pats12TO81 said July 26, 2009

what the frick ea. almost all these songs stink. i dont want to hear someone yelling through a mic at the top of their lungs, thats not singing. way too much hard rock, needs more hip hop/rap. Breed, Hate me now, guerilla radio, and paranoid r the only good songs out of the 27. Theres something wrong when the nhl 10 workers can put up a soundtrack thats 10x better than maddens. There is a way to make everyone happy and that is to let people put in custom soundtracks and be able to play them during the game like after a td but you guys r probably stupid and didnt add it.

  • ronnymund said July 26, 2009

The following exerpt was taken from the latest NBA Live Blog:  Please read the snipet and heed the moral of the exerpt:  Details are a huge part of every game why to this point are tatoos, the latest Nike/Jordan, Under Armour, Adidas cleats, unbuckled chin straps on one side of the helmet, different ways of carrying the football (two hands on the ball), running with/without the football, high/mid/low white sock options not apart of Madden 10 yet.  If its a part of the real NFL why is it not in Madden 10.

"For the visuals, things like updating tattoos; to having the freshest player exclusive shoes in the game was a must. We’re also bringing back a grip of NBA throwback and holiday/cultural jerseys. It may not seem like a big deal to some people when a guy like LeBron is missing some tattoos and his away color signature Nikes, but to our core audience this isn’t authentic. It breaks the reality of sim sports titles when details like that are missed… not this year. When you boot up NBA LIVE 10, it’ll look like a completely new game, where players and stadiums will look as authentic as ever. Below are some images showing you examples of the various visual improvements."

  • TreyIM2 said July 26, 2009

Too much tado about nothing. Is the music really that important when EA is trying to fry bigger fish with the gameplay of Madden?? Isn't that what the game is mostly about? Plus, if u don't like a particular song, u can turn it off in the menu, right?

  • Pajenski said July 27, 2009

i like that there is a lot more rock this time, kinda fits with their theme this year, and i kinda like that there is less crappy soft rock and less rap. glad to see that every rock song on hear i like.

  • tclansman said July 27, 2009

Finally good music on Madden! and to all the people that are saying "Heavy metal is rubbish and all they do is shout down the mic" Go listen to Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, they could out sing any of that shitty rap and rnb bullcrap

  • MiamiDolfan92 said July 27, 2009

jesus christ.....this soundtrack is f******* depressing....

When is EA gonna stop being cheap & put some TALENT on these tracks...

Im more of a rap/hip-hop kinda guy,but if your going to make 95% of the list rock...you might wanna check and make sure its actually good....:-/

  • bizzyb634 said July 27, 2009

Well This is my first time posting on EA and since being my first time i thought it would've been to say something good......... but too bad it isn't!!!!!! I've been playing Madden For a while and i really liked the play list from the other games. I liked them so much that i could have even selected a few to be my favorite when am at the main menu on Madden! But this years play list i have to say i don't think i'll be adding any favorites because am not really a rock person. I mean a few yea.... but to drown out my ears with songs that i dont even understand what in the world they are yelling WoW!!!!! Yea i know that u cant please every single person but you can try please the majority. For example You'll could have shared it up equally half of what every body listens to. You Got to remember that every body is different Some listen to Rock, Metal, Heavy metal, Hip-Hop, Reggea, Rap etc. For me its mostly Hip-hop and i live all the way in The Bahamas and i could really say i dont listen to heavy metal and crap. Now i know about all American rejects, maroone 5, yellow card, linkin park, green day etc! But you know what since i think that you'll did a great job with the game it self i wont complain for long cause i play madden ..... for madden not the songs. but i guess its to late to change the play list so i guess maybe next year you would take into consideration that Madden is sold all around the world. Even in Paradise like The Bahamas. Thanks For Listening and maybe my next time writing it will be to say what a great job you guys at EA did!!! Enjoy your day!!!!!

  • tclansman said July 27, 2009

Iron Maiden has more talent than every band on that list, and any Rapper

  • bizzyb634 said July 27, 2009

But keep up with the good work doe EA i love playing Madden and i hope that every year it just keeps getting better and surprise us each time

  • Peach1821 said July 27, 2009

Its a little disappointing considering that the last few seasons consisted of almost if not all new stuff. But then again many of these sound tracks are the stuff that Many rock and metal fans (like myself) grew up listenin to. As far as all u effin    r et ard s    Madden is a football game! obviously rock and metal is goin to dominate the soundtrack. If u wanna liten to cRAP go play a fricken basketball game. i mean daaaammmmnnnn

  • Peach1821 said July 27, 2009

Maddne needs  to add more updates to there site...give us sumthin to feed off of.

so you dont like blacks huh?you're saying rap is only for basketball.well at least our songs make sense,im talking abut real rappers like biggie,pac,nas,etc...

    you're a douche.

  • KoollAidd said July 27, 2009

wow.. the hip-hop selection sucks except for 2-pac, and da las song..

but... the rap selection sucks.. for real.. rock selection is pretty good tho

  • tclansman said July 27, 2009

Well go listen to some iron maidens songs aces high is about the battle of britian, and they have lots songs with amazing lyrics in them, i must admit most of the new metal is crap! but stuff like Iron Maiden is not screaming, bruce dickinson (lead singer from iron maiden) has one of the best voices ever

  • sconn1 said July 27, 2009

at the end of the day, i could care less aout the soundtrack. but when i look at it...it looks pretty balanced...something for everyone...and not too skewed in any particular genre or era.

but more importantly, after gettin back in town late last night after a family excursion, i went over and grabbed my gamestop demo stuff this morning and got to try it all out for myself. i went to all madden level immediately and got beat,  17-7 fyi.

the demo has a clock accelerator on it which makes this "5 minute" demo seem real short unfortunately...i hate fine print and anything like this that takes away from what the offer presented itself to be.

on the plus side, the gameplay is decent. 3/4 d plays more like 3/4 d. the passing timing is much different, and the ps3 play menu is more like the xbox one, so 3 plays displyed instead of 4. the last point may be a plus or minus, depending on your perspective.

i liked the way the steeler running game worked, although, last year, i incorporated much of the motion that the steelers use in plays where the default has no motion...this year, many of those plays have motion in them by default, so that means that i'll have to make some adjustments. that also means scrubs were handed on a silver platter much of my "nfl style" strategy on a silver platter. that kinda irks me.

the tackling animations are pretty darn good, and i got to fight and win a fumble battle...that was way cool...then Arizona challenged the initial fumble and won...ugh...but the gameplay there was definitely cool.

no announcers on the demo, which might make some celebrate, but as someone who watched the jets game back in the day with no announcers (i think it was around 1980, give or take a few years) know that even crappy announcers are better than silence. but i suspect the voice overs weren't quite ready when they produced this, or they wanna keep a few things under wraps...all in all, it didn't bother me so much.

not as much as the playclock accelerator does...and no, i haven't found a way to turn it off.

anyway...off the top of my head,,,that's a few things that i noted...there were also some interesting stuff graphically off the field and so forth, so folks lookin for that should be pleased...

anyone else try the demo yet or have any other questions?

  • Corbin19 said July 27, 2009

Don't list the good songs on the soundtrack cause everyone is gonna have a different favourite and someone else is gonna hate that song. Overall they did a good job.  Who cares if there are more rock than rap songs, just put your Ipod in.

  • FOXDIE 36 said July 27, 2009

hey Ian Cummings where's that beat that you guys have playing in the background during your documentries that beat is sweeeeet i need that in the game or is there somewhere i can get it from.

  • sconn1 said July 27, 2009

ummmm... i was jokin...and expressin my distain for that 20 or 30 or so times the "request" was posted.

still explorin the demo here..some things i like, some not so much...

one discouraging thing...in one game, where i was up 10-7..with 23 secs to go...warner threw a nice completion to about the 8 yd line...then proceeded to literally walk to the line, under center, with no urgency whatsoever...and time expired...kurt warner is gonna do that in the super bowl? really?

i got the win, but had to shower and needed a hug cause i felt so dirty after the cheap win...

on a good note...the measurement is pretty cool...and i'm starting to get the rhythm of the passing game more...last game had a 24-0 win and was starting to read the defense pretty well. and the running animation is much improved. lead blocking, much improved as well....

    that's it for now...

  • 44CornerBlitz,44CornerBlitz said July 28, 2009

Here's the problem I have...the soundtrack shouldn't even be posted. You guys (EA) are just inviting criticism over something that really doesn't matter that much. I've hated at least one song every year. Two buttons gets me to the next song. This is really one place where you can't please everybody. The one thing I do wish is that they'd keep putting relative unknowns on the track...it helps them build some pub. It looks like they did go for epic names in rock and rap/hip-hop to go with the epic feel of a rebuilt game. Honestly, this is so mundane...and can all of you imagine what it would be like trying to get all of the suggestions for music into the game? It'd turn into more of a flame war than it already is. Sorry, EA, you can't make everyone happy on this one. My take on the soundtrack is...it's fine. I'm neither gassed up or totally down about it. PS No more Mike Vick lobbying spam. It's annoying. He will almost certainly show up in the game as a free agent and the first roster update will put him where he belongs; calm down. Thanks to sconn1 for the demo review...I'm sure there are some last minute bugs to be worked out, but since I'm overseas, I have to wait for the real deal, so I enjoy the early feedback.

  • Peach1821 said July 28, 2009

EA sports ur gay. Every week for the last 2 and 3/4 months, u gave us updates to look at and praise or criticize (like the ratings.) (Me being a Tennessee fan, I personally feel even without *** Hanesworth, they still have potentially a top5 D-line in the league. There is no question that chris johnson and lendal white are the heart and soul of that offense.  Give em a bump up in the ratings eh? As far as King1211 I never said anything racisit ur just pist because rock owns fball (and madden for that matter). U think rap actually makes sence huh? fuckin listen to the words man its all about rapE!!

P.S.  i'm not hatin on all u rap lovers. im just hatin on this fucktard

  • swillz13 said July 28, 2009

i agree with u peach. me my self i like rap but i think rock is probably better for football. i mean there are some rap songs that good with it though.

  • sconn1 said July 28, 2009

another demo update....last night, i discovered that the steelers do indeed have the wildcat offense in their arsenal...3 plays anyway. i don't know if that is the extent of the offense or if other teams have more variations. i tried 1 play...gained 2 yards.

on a good note...i think the players and movement is a lil more "proportional" to the field size and so forth.

on a bad note...the fullback run is still too easy to use...all but one play (out of about 12 attempts over several games) gained positive yards (1 was no gain)and i even ran 3 in a row and the d DID NOT seem to be picking up on it.

and on my 1st 4th and inches qb sneak attempt i gained 8 yards...and on 2 other 4th and short attempts, 1 at the goalline, the d never came close to stoppin me.

on a good note, the more i get used to the passing game, the better the routes look (more natural)...still some seeming "warp coverage" from the DB's and LB's but not quite as bad as 09. and this could be more due to me not being totally used to the sensitivity of the leading of passes vs. 09.

i also had a disturbing pick...one of those where the ball is deflected TOWARDS THE GROUND and some random player who happens to be running by not necessarily even facing the play somehow "stick-ems" the ball in an awkward and jerky animation.

also,,,no specifically calling for a challenge (being able to say i'm challenging the catch and not the "spot of the ball, etc...) and in this version the player does not get a review of the play like last year..just jumps to the decision...i'm hoping that was to "save space" on the demo.

  • sconn1 said July 28, 2009

    Pantera - "Walk"

Good song, glad they put that in. Suck for all you guys who likes rap but I'm happy with this soundtrack... but hey we all got songs on our harddrives anyways so...

  • theking1211 said July 28, 2009

if its not your taste, say its not your taste.dont go saying rap is crappy then.rap takes writing skill (poetry) and metal takes screaming.(thats about it)

im saying real raps take poetry, not guys like lil wayne.so if you think metal isn't crap, you are just stupid because rap actually takes writing skill.so if rap is crap, you shouldn't be bumping your head to the rap songs in madden, turn them off.

  • favrikdgansitos said July 28, 2009

man this soundtrack is awesome, the producers of this game desperatly needed to put this kind of songs (..i mean Metal)to this game. this sport is hardcore & and metal music defenitly fits wit this sport because its hardcore dot ok but i would had prefer a lil bit of Rapcore, Alternative metal Like:

Mushroomhead: Burn ( this song is awesome), 12 hundred or Sun Doesn't Rise a lot more of Mushroomhead

Primer 55: Loose (that song is pretty hardcore) ;)

Powerman 5000: Bombshell, Supernova Goes Pop.

    Crazy Town: Toxic

Linkin Park: One Step Closer or hole Hybrid theory album

peace dudes ( and remember this is Music!!!)

I've been playing madden since most of you have been on diapers. This is by FAR the best soundtrack. This is football and most of the bands here are hardcore and not some pansy bands like fallout boy and the like. Get out of the mainstream and enjoy the these bands. Pantera, Iron Maiden, and the like rock. Also, the mix with Dr. Dre, Tupac, and Public Enemy is fantastic. Good job AE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and "up the irons"

anyone over the age of 21 will most likely like this album.how can you say rock is all screaming with no tallent, can you do it?and to answer your question, yes i can rap.it is easy to make up words, and swear to the beat of an old rock song or disco song.it seems every rap/hiphop song i hear is stolen from somebody else.honestly i like some rap songs, the ones on this sound track are good.ea was trying to find good old songs that were not already on other games.good luck finding a game today that isnt all rap/hiphop.it makes me feel like they are trying to please the gamers who have been playing the game since the 90's.

  • mainemex said July 28, 2009

  • MegaBearsFan said July 29, 2009

Don't really care about the licensed music soundtrack. I always turn all those off so all my menus are dominated by the sweet sounds of NFL Films music. This is football. Not MTV or VH1.

I think it would be really sweet if EA would include Hank Williams Jr's "Monday Night Football" theme, especially if it were played before a Monday night game (either during the load screen or as background music during the pre-game cutscenes - we don't need a long, drawn out music video). And if they wanted to get that chick from Sunday night football that would be cool, too, but Hank Williams Jr should be a musical priority for the Madden team.

Some ESPN soundtracks wouldn't hurt either, like some of the Chris Berman highlight music. Once again, that was something that was in 2K5, and it would be great to see it come back to complement the existing NFL Films' "Autumn Thunder" soundtrack.

  • MegaBearsFan said July 29, 2009

Is the Madden demo already available? I checked PSN this weekend and didn't see it.

  • IamRonBurgandy said July 29, 2009

One word, SICK!  Nothing sets the mood to light somebody up on the field like some good ol' rock!  I dig it!

  • sconn1 said July 29, 2009

lemme take a wild guess mega...you like country?

like i said before, i think there is some decent balance on the track, but you do point out a lack of any "*** kickin" country tunes that would help to fully represent the madden community (we aren't all teenagers) and many NFL teams are in country music "hotbeds" and such...most obviously tennesee.

myself, i enjoy all kinds of music, really. from baroque to bar music. from classical to punk. so the more variety, the better. i actually think a few games could learn a lesson from the GTA san andreas soundtrack a few years back...excellent diversity, and i ended up gettin "turned on" to some stuff i was previously unfamiliar.

back to the game...the gamestop demo came out last week...the regular demo is out by this weekend i believe. you can get the "5 minute quarter" gamestop demo still just by puttin 5 bucks down on a pre-order. and i believe you can do it instantly online. if not, i know my local store is still taking pre orders. so i assume many others are. btw...i "" the 5 min q's because they have a playclock accelerator on a default, unchangeable setting, which kinda pisses me off. i feel kinda screwed and am considerin takin my business back to best buy or someone.

a couple more observations....good note...i like the "ref consultation" on tight plays. and the fumble "scramble" is really cool. not only do you have to fight for the ball, but all pile-ups are not equal...in some, it seems, one guy will have an advantage.

bad note...the computer still calls plays wrong, even when challenged...had a sideline grab with turf to spare and both feet clearly in get called out and stood up on challenge (which we don't get to see, at least in the demo).

and freak picks / catches almost seem worse than last year. today, i had limus sweed basically pull an "immaculate reception" when it bounced off willie parker's head and a couple cardinal hands...limus wanders by and grabs it out of mid air and scores. (i'm weird that i want fairness both ways).

also cool was the subbing option after injury. not cool is the accelerated clock and only being able to sub thru the play call screen. i normally sub here, but with the fast clock, i get screwed in mid-sub or take delay penalties. i actually might not mind this with full 15 minute quarters & the acc. clock.

the fatigue factor seems much better... that's good. you still can rocket catch, that's bad. the catch doesn't seem to be as much of a given tho...which seems to be good.

some of my plays from last year run differently this year...so i have to make adjustments...i see that as mostly good. (i like a challenge) i think for the steelers at least, my playbook, overall, is much improved. tho i hope i will have some customization options come real game time.

    but i ramble...lol...take care:)

  • warrior310 said July 29, 2009

or just pre order the demo.

  • MegaBearsFan said July 29, 2009

No, Sconn1, I don't like country, I'm a classic rock ran. I actually like the inclusion of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden (would have prefered "Run the the Hills", but whatever). Its just that the soundtracks for previous games are just so lackluster that I got used to just turning them off, so I have absolutely no anticipation for the new Madden soundtrack. I had actually never thought of how much of the NFL demographic would probably like country music to be represented, so that is actually not a bad idea. I just suggested Hank Williams Jr and what's-her-name from Sunday Night Football because those would add a little more of the immersion that Ian and co are going for ("If you see it on Sunday, you'll see it in Madden"). Although they have said on several occasions that there are some new presentation improvements that they are not showing off until the game releases, so who knows, maybe that will be one of them.

Besides, doesn't Madden have the "Stadium Sounds" feature that lets you import music anyway? Can you set any of the imported songs to be menu music? If so, does the soundtrack even matter at all?

  • sconn1 said July 30, 2009

the accelerated clock, if memory serves me correctly, seems to work just as it did in previous versions. the problem here is that i am locked into 5 minute quarters so the 1st 8 minutes of the game fly by. then you get a non accelerated 2 minute drill time...then the 2nd half flies by until you get to the final 2 minutes.

plus, with the new play call menu, things are ordered differently and some plays are now in different categories than they were before even.

for example, the 1 wide, 1 rb quick slant used to be in the standard pass category...now it's in quick pass. in my 1st game, i took a couple of delay penalties just looking for the play.

also, this makes it hard to actually check anything out in detail with the clock not only running, but running fast. for example, i might take say 10 or 11 seconds off the play clock...because of the new menus, etc...where it used to take me 1-3 seconds to find and call the play...then when going to line up...the clock knocks down to like 10 seconds left, leaving me no time for a motion or setting a hot route or whatever i previously did in a play or situation.

and like i said before, subbing can only be done from the play call screen (no full roster menus or anything when paused)which, if this was a 15 minute quarter game, i could accept, and would make individual subs as plays progressed. but in this brief demo, when trying to check out so many things at once...it gets tough.

i am really liking the increased fatigue overall tho...last night i was experimenting with no huddle to see how players reacted and i noticed on the 3rd or 4th play of no huddle, when i called the offense to the line again,,,one of my linemen slumped their shoulders and dragged themselves over back into position...on the snap, he got run over and i got sacked almost off the snap...i liked the reality of that.

some of the attempt to make everything look like a "real broadcast" is a little confusing at times. it seems the game wants to cut to a "broadcast" animation a little too quick sometimes...and on some passes, the animations are confusing to the point that it takes a couple of seconds to figure out if you caught the ball or not...sometimes the receiver goes thru the same motion on an 'over the shoulder" catch as they do an over the shoulder drop.

most of the rb animations like jukes and such are much improved tho...and ya really gotta tackle people too instead of just hit stickin all over the place here...i like that too. i've had to quickly break some habits on lazy tackling that would have brought the guy down most of the time in 09...now the rb just brushes a lazy attempt off more often than not.

  • sconn1 said July 30, 2009

a couple other noted improvements...on penalties...

they will actually call you for "unnecessary roughness" for plowing someone who is going out of bounds already...i like it.

they are also calling clipping penalites on ko / punt returns...again, i like it.

also, the refs, just like in real life can and do sometimes get in the way of a play...pretty cool...although i'm sure i won't be as keen on this when someone purposefully uses a ref as the "12th man" lead blocker in an online game, lol.

  • dncshakespeare said July 30, 2009

i'm from the Bahamas and i have been playing madden for 6 years now... and you really need to take into consideration the people who aren't american playing your game... i mean rock is okay.. but why is it that basketball games can have hip-hop gone mad and  you like you having a rock party.. i LOVE MADDEN and love the competition of my around the world foes... but please take into consideration other ppl.. n not just rock fans... or BETTER YET LET THE FANS CHOOSE THE MUSIC...  YOU GUYS STICK TO MAKING THE GAME LOOK AND PLAY GOOD!!!

  • MegaBearsFan said July 30, 2009

I agree with dncshakespeare. As I said previously, the music is never a huge deal for me. I like the hard rock soundtrack that is in this game, it seems like it would be a good fit for football and nice for the not-so-young fans, but this is a football game first and foremost, so for all I care, they can give us the NFL Films soundtrack on the disc and let us upload whatever other music we want as menu music and stadium music.

  • sconn1 said July 30, 2009

Really not that hard to program i'm sure... At any rate as one of the fans of the 2k series(although i always played madden too) i can say that i am impressed. really! The game play in the demo was kinda stiff but great.the graphics are hottttt. But what takes the cake is you have found a way to fix some of the major legacy issues! GREAT. also to all of the drop 50 yrds and throw to WR players, ITS FINALLY OVER. to all you 35 no huddle plays a game type players, it's finally over. Good job EA, i will surely be in line at 10:30pm release night for this one and feel like it's money well spent......

Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Korn, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, what a soundtrack! It kind of sucks Disturbed wasn't in again this year, I was kind of getting used to hearing them during playing Madden. I am really impressed with the choices made this year. Sure you can't make everyone happy, but at least you chose the best genre to work around!

All those upset with the lack of rap and hip-hop can suck it up for once, and do what I had to do for years and suck it up. At least Madden gives you an option to shut off certain songs and save your playlist. I lived on the generic songs with a few decent tracks now and then for a while now. Honestly in my opinion, rap and hip-hop are absolutely dreadful, tasteless "music." Time to listen to some real music!

  • scarletandgray9 said July 31, 2009

There are alt of glitches in madden but madden is still fun...hes right though, just playing the demo u notice they never fix the touchdowns, many times the ball passes the line or my players touch the line and its not called a touchdown only cause the player lands on the ground outside the inzone.

what madden EZ should do is have a glich and cheat security to get rid of all these cheating bast*** that cant play a real madden game and have to use invisable qbs or fumble cheats.

Think EA should also allow xbox360 and PS3 networks to comingle whenit comes to gameplay, (none of my broke as* friends can afford a PS3)

i popped in madden 06 for PS2 yesterday and it had 10 rap and 11 rock songs.they should have done that this year, this is not the best soundtrack IMO.

for all the rock they put in the should have put in atleast audioslave, lymp bizkit(the guy that made rollin),or "freak on a leash" by korn.but anyway, they should have really put in more rap.

so,i am a rock fan also but not as big as i am for rap.i know every song thats in madden but i wont ever say the lyrics from the inner party system song.

Im not sure whether or not i like this soundtrack. I think its great they got away from the hip hop crap. However, if they were going to head towards more of a metal?hard rock genre, they should have gone more all out. Football is a game that is represented more for having a hard rock attitude. But the hard rock songs they picked are *** ***. I like basically all types of music, but i know im not alone in thinking football is all about heavy bass filled songs. I agree with some of the earlier comments about letting the using depict the soundtrack. I personally would like to see bands like  Shinedown, Parkway Drive (preferrably "Romance Is Dead"), All That Remains, Nickelback. Something along those lines... its just something to think about for the future.

I just removed from the play list period. That tough for a Nas fan like me. For the guy above me based on the rap artist you have listed above, it tells me you're either 12-16, pigment challenged. Maybe you should stick to those rock and alternative songs you listed.

My question is where are Wu-Tang, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, The Roots, M.O.P., Common and Mobb Deep (older common and Mobb deep). Obviously the soundtrack can't be all hip-hop but if you gonna do it at least make it good hip-hop

a bit. i really like tupac. im glad that one of his songs is in there but its almost pointless because like every second word is blanked out so u don't really enjoy it. thats why i would rather custom soundtracks
