Madden NFL 10: 2nd Title Update Details

Posted On: Nov. 30, 2009 11:29 AM EST By: Dewiel 74 Comments

Hey there Maddens fans, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  There is nothing better than sitting around with family and friends stuffing yourself with Turkey, all the sides and Pumpkin Pie while watching football all day long. My Mom and Wife might disagree, but for me and my Dad it doesn't get any better.

Just like the NFL Season is in full swing, the Development Team here at Tiburon has been full steam ahead since shipping Madden NFL 10.  We have been closely monitoring the message boards and forums looking for feedback on how we can improve for Madden NFL 11.  With that in mind, we have spent some time focusing on some of the more pressing concerns for our second title update.  Unfortunately we can't fix every issue you guys have found as we are limited as to what we can actually address, but we feel like we have hit some of the more burning issues.

Awhile back we posted some initial info on what would be in the second title update. That info can be found here.

The first update mostly talked about some of the planned Gameplay fixes but we've also focused on some other important, non-gameplay related fixes as well including Uniforms, Franchise Stat tuning, Replays and Scriptables.  The uniform updates include updating the Seattle Seahawks' home uniform to default their home pants to be blue instead of white as well as adding in their new eye popping Neon Green uniforms that they wore in Week 3 against the Bears.  We've also added tribute stickers to the Titans' helmets for Steve McNair and the Eagles' helmets for former Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson.

Some more updates that we have made based on the community feedback center around Replays.  We've doubled the amount of time a replay could be recorded so longer plays, such as kick/punt returns or long interception/fumble returns would not have the beginning part of the play cut off.  We have also increased the frequency of Auto Instant replays (especially after touchdowns), based on your feedback that told us they weren't appearing enough. Other updates include reducing the number of times the Chain Gang Measurement scene will trigger during the game and extending the time that we are in postplay by 2 seconds to give more time for the presentation of certain shots to finish before being cut off too early.  The user will still of course be able to button through these if they want.

Finally, our resident Franchise guru Josh Looman, has been working hard at tuning stats for Franchise mode.   He has increased the number of touchdowns HB's score in a season, decreased QB passing yards and touchdown passes per season, and increased sacks for 3-4 OLB's while decreasing sacks for MLB's and DT's.  He has also decreased the injury chances for players with high injury ratings.  Needless to say, Josh has been extremely busy and you can see his full post about these updates here.

Another update we have added is to include each player's draft info.  This can be found in the front end as well as in Franchise Mode in the Awards Screen.  None of these Franchise updates will force you to have to restart an existing Franchise.  We know that was a major concern, so we tried our best to make these updates that would allow you to continue any existing Franchises (I know I have a few!).

So, as you can see, we have made some important changes in this second title update and hope you all enjoy the updates that we have made.  Thanks again for all of your feedback and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Maybe you were extra giddy to get us this information, but you neglected to tell us when we can expect this update. Will it apply to the Online Franchises as well?

  • sniperhare said November 30, 2009

Does the draft info work with Madden pre-generated or NCAA imported draft classes? Will I be able to see when players were drafted by the CPU?

  • Jambadongs said November 30, 2009

Is it possible for you guys to make injuries happen during CPU v CPU sims?

I can't recall a 3D Madden game ever having that but all the other EA titles do.

  • micdevious said November 30, 2009

Madden Nfl 11? I got some ideas!!! THE RUNNING SYSTEM! I'm speaking for the casual players. I think there more of us than hardcore gamers trying to win the Madden Nfl challange every year, lol.

    1. Animations. It doesn't suck but it could be better. You know the one when you're running before you pull the sprint button? I guess it's made for agile runners but man, not like that. Running the ball should be the coolest looking animation on the game. Ya'll do it all the time with these goofy animations year after year. I thought Madden Nfl 08 animation was fine though.

    2. Break Tackle Rating. I believe in my heart that the rating there, but hidden. I believe Madden Nfl is full of Hidden Ratings! Off the main subject though, Why not put it on the game. We know it's there. How come when I'm running the ball without pushing a button, it makes a move on it on? Do the right thing and keep it elementry and put the rating on there. Which leads to...

    3. Break Tacking System. Oh my Jehovah, where should I start? This is one of the main reasons I think EA SPORTS inteminates new protential customers. Keep it elementry! When I stiff arm a defender, I expect my player to AT LEAST try to attempt a stiff arm! Not make a spin move instead! It makes you feel as if Madden Nfl is in more control of the game than you are! Too much forced animation. My idea comes from Nfl 2k series, REPEATLY PRESSING A BUTTON TO BREAK OUT OF A TACKLE. simple and fun. That will make me feel like I'm really trying to break out of a tackle while keeping it fun! NOT like FIGHTING FOR THE FUMBLE when you're pressing different buttons, that's just too much. One simple button like the A button ( I got Xbox 360 ).

That's my wish list. Running Backs should look cool running the ball. Most casual player, I think, love running the ball. Sometimes I break a long run without trying and that's not cool. I should feel like I've worked for that long run. Just because last year's game was hard to run on doesn't mean I should be giving a long run. I want it almost looking like it does on TV.

P.S. I know it won't happen but Ya'll need fewer and simplier ratings. It seems like the more rating you put on it the more gitches it has, lol.

  • Johncow said November 30, 2009

How about fixing the friggin' injured reserve system. When a player is placed on IR their slot becomes available to fill with a free agent. If you aren't going to fix this GLARING error in gameplay you might as well take season ending injuries completely out of the game.  I've been a long time supporter of EA but let's get serious guys - ever since you've gotten the exclusive license you've dropped the ball. I could care less about cosmetics and overall glossiness of the game

Fix the damn issues with gameplay already! The same issues have plagued every next gen game since 2006 and yet you can't seem to find them no matter how long you fart around with the engine. You may be protected from being sued because it's a licensing issue not a monopoly issue, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be.

  • sniperhare said November 30, 2009

After this update is launched, work on fixing the blocking and the interactions between the two lines. That is the essence of football, of the NFL. I can't see a difference between a kicker and a guard as far as blocking skills are concerned for about 2 seconds the way it plays now.

And make the computer realize that a 3-4 and 4-3 utilize different players and body types. Like the Jaguars earlier this year, a team should have problems running a 3-4 with 4-3 LB's and Ends.

  • Daw3i said November 30, 2009

You should compress the awards section under player bios such as:

    Rookie of the Year: 2010

    Pro Bowl: 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015

    MVP: 2013

    QB of the year: 2012, 2013, 2015

Instead of having to sort through so many awards year after year.  It's just more neat.

  • Daw3i said November 30, 2009

Also, add Hall of Fame stats for franchise Defense Players, and more range on the stats.  Like how currently u cannot view receiving stats for runningbacks.

  • Wasserhund said November 30, 2009

"Another update we have added is to include each player's draft info"  This is useless update, fix the problems of the game, fix the game so people cant manulipate it. nano blitz BS it dosent make it more intresting it take away from the fun of the game when these kids that have nothing else to do but play 24/7 going for 4th and 20 and making it every time, it is un realistic, lock the game down to where you can only use playmaker controls, not move players all over the field and blitz every down so fast that the quarterback is sacked on every play the instant he gets the ball.  moving the kick return time player right in from of the kicker to block the kick off for a touch down.  This game gets exploited every year by the few that ruins the experience for the rest of us.

  • JSTEVENS38 said November 30, 2009

how about fixing some of the glitches that cry babies use to ruin the game, i know ya'll fixed the one where the other team just false starts the whole time til you quit, but what about the one where they pause it then seem to just keep hitting A over and over or maybe doing something else, but whatever they're doing it cuases the game to freeze in pause withtout any option, just starring at the stadium, again forcing you to quit, i was playing a level 29, beating him 21-3 in the second when he did this, i tried to wait thinking it'd fix itself, and it didnt, even though he quit i had no option to continue or do anything, i recieved a DC, while he recieved nothing, not i win but not a loss either

  • JSTEVENS38 said November 30, 2009

PS, with the exception of the cry babies, great game, only thing, running animation needs to be altered, players legs move too slow, watch any chris johnson play, his legs are moving a mile a minute

  • ronnymund said November 30, 2009

Helmet decals are a nice touch but lets get to the meat and potatoes of gameplay and presentation improvements.  First you must fix that spat/tape jobs.  Go back to offering the tape jobs that were seen in Madden 01-06.  Those tape jobs were more realistic looking.  You should also add an option for players to wear NIKE and UNDER ARMOUR cleats and combat equipment.  Nike is revolutionizing the college football uniform and I think you guys need to get on the band wagon.  Also you need to add an option for players to wear very high white socks, 3/4 white socks and or really low white socks.  Just look at Green Bays secondary against Detroit on Thanks Giving Day.  Every Db had their white socks completely pulled up to their knee caps in order to honor the fallen comrade Al Harris.  Also in the game please take a look a Charles Woodson's game clinching pick 6.  When he intercepts the football he carries the ball with two hands holding for 15 yards before palming the football with one hand (www.nfl.com/.../Charles-Woodson-Pick-6).  Also please allow players to tape their belts in order to give a candy-cane effect that is seen in the following pictures (www.gettyimages.com/.../Getty-Images-Sport, www.gettyimages.com/.../Getty-Images-Sport, www.gettyimages.com/.../Getty-Images-Sport, www.gettyimages.com/.../Getty-Images-Sport.  You could also offer the bursa sack arm shimmels that are seen being worn by many NBA players on one are but are also being worn by manny of todays NFL qb's to keep their throwing arms warm.  Thanks for your time

Good job with the franchise fixes, haven't played franchise since sept but i'll be quick to start a new one if these fixes actually work... good job.

One thing tho, someone said in a post that Josh Looman only had 1 or 2 weeks to fix the franchise mode? is that true?

  • sniperhare said November 30, 2009

Don't listen to people that are requesting stupid things like tape. That's a waste of time. Focus on gameplay.

  • GHsu said December 01, 2009

minor thing, but an annoyance nonetheless (and i've mentioned this a few times before)...

the powder blue chargers uniforms. please include the current versions. you only have the throwback versions currently. the new ones (like the ones they wore this past sunday against the chiefs) are exactly like the dark blue ones, except everything is light blue instead of dark blue. the bolt designs are different than the throwback powder blues. it just bugs me because i don't like the throwback ones as much.

also, we can't skip the chain gang animation. it's great that it's in the game... but if the camera is showing the left side of the ball, it's a first down, and if the camera is showing the right side of the ball, it's short. i mean, it's very predictable, and it'll save me a couple seconds every time they do that. also when the refs meet to discuss a touchdown and it's not even close (they sometimes meet when i'm clearly like half a yard short)... i'd like to be able to skip that.

maybe some of you can answer my question here... but when are you supposed to press the stiff arm button to make it work? like sometimes i kinda hold it down, and my dude stiff arms, or sometimes i hit the button right before contact and it works, and sometimes i press it after i'm contacted and i break the tackle... but most of the time it doesn't do much at all. what is the ideal time to press the stiff arm button, and why isn't it more responsive/effective?

  • Lahainaboy808 said December 01, 2009

Hi was the Cap penalty for trading players fixed? when you trade players it just says "no penalty" for bonus players. then comes the next season and you have $20Million cap penalty! LOL. i was kinda shocked but yea. also maybe adding super sim to online matches like NCAA has. its helpfull to skip the last quarter after your opponet quits a game (i wanna get to the next real player already rather then playing the CPU)also it gets real boring just running clock out from a 21-0 lead in the first quarter after you own some 12 year old kid online =P. Thanks and keep up the good work!

  • rykorq said December 01, 2009

How about fixing the offline franchise mode so that you can play your games out of order for those of us with more than one person playing in our offline leagues?  The fact that you can't play a week out of order is frustrating to the nth degree.  I could give a rats behind about uniforms being out of whack, but not being able to play like we could on previous gen games just makes it very frustrating.

  • EdoggEm said December 01, 2009

What about the being able to have the online Franchise roster to match with the current online roster that is updated from time to time.

Also for Madden NFL 11 it would be great to have some sort of default feedback choice to select after the game is over, like:

    Great competitor

    Player abuses wildcat

    Player abuses screen plays

    Player abuses nano blitz

Player goes for it on 4th all the time

Player abuses fake punts/fake field goals/2 point conversions

And with that, have an option of filtering Play Now settings on that default feedback and add other filters like:

No huddle percentage: lower that 5%

    DNF: lower than 5%

Opponent within 5 of your level

With this, that would limit the amount of complaints and keep the cheater in check to play fair games. After all we all want to play the game, but certain players discourage others from having a good gaming experience.

  • jaysberg said December 01, 2009

I just want it real as possible.

Rosters- proper IR, and an 8 man practice squad

O-Line vs D-Line- Ratings seem to not mean anything, low rated blockers block the best DE. Fix this Jared Allen I think can beat a Punter at tackle.( Did it in exbition game and the punter held him for 3 seconds easy)

Just make the game real as possible starting with rosters than work on gameplay being blocking, tackling, and the movement of players on the field.

  • patrivers said December 01, 2009

MY PS3 VERSION STILL STUTTERS AFTER HIKING THE BALL...FIX THAT!!!

  • GHsu said December 01, 2009

this is more for Madden 11...

signing players is so tedious because you have no idea what they expect from you in a contract. it takes forever to scroll through the numbers and keep trying because there's no interest meter or something where you can play with the salary/bonus/years and actually tell whether the player would be interested or not. also... i'd like to see the ability to have different contract setups (front loaded, back loaded, constant salaries, middle loaded... you know? all the contracts are the same now- if you give a bonus, the salary increases every year). i'd also like to see player/team options being incorporated into contracts. and if you offer relatively close to what the player wants, they should counter-offer so that you're not sitting there scrolling through the numbers to try to get them to accept. it's so tedious!

also, for presentation... can we incorporate all the great ideas that the other EA Sports titles have these days? i like the whole NBA Live DNA idea, and it seems like this would work even better for football since it's a week by week schedule rather than scattered everyday. i love the team builder idea for NCAA Football. having it online where you can edit your team, share, and use custom logos... it's great. this definitely should be in the next Madden because the create-a-team is so lame right now. i'm sick of having to choose between the sharks or the baboons because there are only like 10 logos to choose from. if i'm moving the Raiders back to LA from Oakland, i should be able to keep them as the Raiders if i want- instead, they're the LA Baboons because i don't want to be the Sharks or the Meteors. you know what i mean? NCAA Football's got Madden beat on this, hands down. take a page out of NCAA Basketball's book, too. they did an amazing job incorporating CBS and ESPN broadcasts into the game. i'm just imagining playing Madden with the official logos, tickers, and visuals that I see on TV, and it would be a whole different experience. it'd be really nice to have a graphic or some sort of presentation on screen where they introduce the other team's roster (like the whole starting lineup on both sides of the ball), so that i have an idea what i'm up against (in franchise mode, you get through a couple seasons and you don't know who's on what team anymore... and it's annoying to have to scroll through their depth chart to figure things out). they do this all the time on TV... it could be a quick blip screen or video... and it would be amazing if it looked like what it really does on TV.

the gameplay has been much improved this season, but i think defensive line play needs to be improved still. if i engage an offensive lineman, i feel like i'm being held the whole time. there should be a better variety of moves and instances where you just beat the o-lineman. if you watch a good blitzing team, you get people getting into the backfield unaccounted for, and this hardly happens on a normal blitz call (unless if you're setting up nanos... i don't know if you guys are doing this intentionally!). basically, the d-line (defensive linemen and outside backers in the 3-4) needs to win more matchups with the o-line. they need to get to the qb... and lame duck throws need to become fumbles and intentional grounding calls against the computer. i'm so sick of getting to the qb only to have the ball wobble out of his hand to the middle of nowhere. call it grounding (if there's no one in the area) or make it a fumble.

sorry. that was long. just wanted to get that out there. thanks for listening, EA dudes.

  • SLAVEMASTER14 said December 01, 2009

Sup EA, first off you guys have made a great football game and I enjoy playing it. Now for the real reason I am commenting, while Madden 10 is a great game its not as great as it could have been. I have 3 major focus points that(in my opinion) would make Madden 11 even better than Madden 10(which is what you guys want right).

    1) Scouting/Drafting - This is one of the things that confused me about Madden 10, why did you guys remodel the drafting process? I loved being able to get a player work him out play with him in the senior bowl see what round he was in and then draft him. In Madden 10 you give the user the ability to scout the player all season long(which is nice), but it's kinda like cheating the way you give the player the ratings. How about giving the user one or two ratings and have a (REAL)combine in the offseason that gives you the players stats the more you work him out and give the user a limit of only five ratings (only things that can be determined during a combine not like tackling or awareness). It takes away from the realism of taking a player and seeing with your own eyes and also how the player feels(which is very important to me). Being able to feel how a player accelerates, cuts, jumps, spins, throws, tackles etc. It really makes me feel like a head coach finding a player that I liked and seeing him pay off. Please keep the ability to scout but also bring back the senior bowl and individual workouts so we can feel like we really scouted this player.

    2) SuperStar Mode - RIP SuperStar Mode 2006-2010... you guys KILLED SuperStar mode you made it not even worth playing. Why would you make it worse? Why not just leave it the way it was? There was no purpose in what you guys did with SuperStar mode, you stripped all the good things from it. No hair cuts, training, movie deals no anything, you should have just deleted it for all of that and made some more improvements to franchise mode. I really liked the first three versions of SuperStar mode they were fun and was pretty time consuming when bored with franchise and online play. So I BEG you please if you don't want to spend time remodeling it just put it back the way it was in 08.

    3) Animations - This was maybe my biggest gameplay flaw that I saw. You guys really gave us like four catch animations to see( David Tyree catch, over the shoulder, dive, and sideline) I mean there should be way more cool catch animations and not have so many of the same lame ones. Run animations were very poor as well the only run animations I liked was when the running back broke a tackle or came off a juke that's it. I would love to see some running back style animations with different ball carrying styles as well(because not all running backs hold the ball the same). And since we are on the different styles how about some "OLD SCHOOL" QB styles, I mean who wouldn't want to make there QB throw like Montana or Elway or Marino bottom line please get a ton of new animations(mostly on jump balls).

Well that's my three major complaints about the game, I really do like Madden 10 but these things could make Madden 11 a drug just like the old Madden games used to be when you would wait two hours in line till midnight to get the game and then stare at the back of the cover just thinking about how awesome it's going to be, or when you would miss a day or two of work after it came out so you could get better than your friends to beat them. I want that Madden back.

  • accallday said December 01, 2009

Its unbelievable that patches have to be installed to a game that is supposed to include all of the above. I have been playing Madden for over over 10+ years and I have to say this is one of EA Sports poorer efforts to date. How can you release a game knowing all the problems and bugs that its going to have, or do you even know? Does anyone test the game before deciding its ready? These are problem in the game that has been the same for years! The ball going through receivers' body, I mean really?? No pass rush what so ever for the user, the offensive line protection is horrible as usual and once again there is no such thing as pass defense. The PS2 versions were very good games which i enjoyed a lot even though it was starting to decline as well so I went with a next gen console thinking I would get a better experience. In looks yes but gameplay no. I am sad to say that this year will probably be the last year I buy Madden and its a shame because I have enjoyed the series from the beginning but now all you guys at EA Sports seem to be concerned with is how the game looks and not plays and making gamers buy add-on content that should be included is just plain ridiculous. I don't know if you this comment will get read by any of your production staff but if it does i hope that it will remind you that there are people like me that care about the effort that goes into Madden but I'm sure you hear that a lot from the thousands that see what I'm seeing.

  • Blackpine73 said December 01, 2009

I hope the Chargers' powder blue alternates are in the patch!  It would be awesome if the Chargers throwback helmets were fixed.  In the game the lightning bolts are the modern ones (they should be yellow outlined in black) and the facemask is white (it should be gray).

  • GiveMeQuackers said December 02, 2009

Are you guys going to fix the progression and pancake stats? Or are you just dicking around with replays. It amazes me that four years later, on a new system, Madden football is worse than it was in 06 on the PS2.  I don't care about "TOWLZ" and stupid tape and socks. I want you guys to fix what it wrong with this game.

  • Rithal said December 02, 2009

The Condition of the Defensive Back position in regard to statistics is HORRIBLE. I can barely get 20-30 tackles on an undefeated team for these guys. All-Pro shutdown cornerbacks might get one or two interceptions IN A SEASON. As a result the progression system is tanking there ratings. It is very frustrating and something I would expect from NCAA Football, but not Madden.

  • Young Destiny said December 02, 2009

Whats good. This is my very first time posting on ANY video game blog or forum (so bear with me) but I have suggestions for the next title update (since it seems like #2 is already done--UNLESS this could make it). These are issues I notice while playing the game:

    1) Fix the refereeing on CATCHES. I have noticed on more than one occasion that when a receiver catches the ball out of bounds, it is still deemed a catch.

    2) FIGHT FOR THE FUMBLE. On some occasions when MY PLAYER jumps on the ball after a fumble, and clearly when the fumble is in my favor (RED BAR STAYS ON MY SIDE), THE REFEREE STILL RULES IN THE OTHER TEAM'S FAVOR. I find that to be a HUGE problem because it could cost me a win.

Personal TEXAN Gripe: Kris Brown is not as STRONG a kicker as he SHOULD BE. I find it hard to make any field goals exceeding about 45 yards (He made a 56-yarder against the Colts in Week 10 or 11). Can his kicking power be increased?

That's it for now......Thanks for listening.

  • Young Destiny said December 02, 2009

I have only ONE MORE SUGGESTION for the next title update. I notice that the playbooks don't seem to be as dynamic (for some teams) as they are in the real NFL.

----For instance, I play as the TEXANS all the time, I notice in some of their games on Sunday that they use WR reverses in the backfield, QB-to-tailback Inside shovel handoffs, and screen (lateral) passes in the backfield. Is it possible to amend team playbooks to match these real-time NFL dynamics? Just a suggestion...Thanks.

  • Young Destiny said December 02, 2009

Visuals/Player Animations: I noticed in the Giants/Cowboys game earlier this season that one of the Giants' linebackers audibled to change the defensive scheme by slapping both sides of his helmet (and turning around to let his teammates see what he was doing). Is there any way to add details like that for EACH TEAM? It would be a very nice addition for the next update.

  • BoIsASaintsFan said December 03, 2009

To DONNIE MOORE AND LARRY RICHARDT, How about user stats, I would like to know how my stats look against offline players. I can't tell how many games I've won, yet alone passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards and etc. Why did y'all take out this feature the fun part of knowing how you compare against other offline players!!!!:(

    P. S.   Can you guys add individual bump and run coverage, for defensive players. And add swapping plays and different formations from

any playbooks. Oh yeah, if not this version of Madden. Can you add user's stats for MADDEN 2011.

  • nybo90 said December 03, 2009

Can you give an estimate when this patch are ready for download??

  • jbritt665 said December 04, 2009

    estimate?? PS3 only! 183mb

  • Bliss13 said December 04, 2009

It's good they added in player draft info, but why didn't they add BACK IN how a player was acquired by his current team?  This was on previous versions!

Again I ask why do they remove existing features each year when they add new ones.   Keep the old and add new and you will end up with a better and better product and less people jumping ship or not buying the next years version knowing there will be yet again multitudes of problems and missing features!

  • david02809@yahoo.com said December 04, 2009

Hi, I've never posted on here before, and I just downloaded and installed this latest patch.  One of the changes, the forced animation of a fake handoff by QB's to avoid the instant run with hot routed receivers, etc, that you discussed, it has completely screwed up the Wild-Cat run play.  Where the RB on the far side goes in motion, and ball is snapped to the regular RB in the shotgun, and then they both take off running as an option, now the ball is snapped, and the rb gets the ball then makes a fake handoff to thin air in the wrong direction and then gets swarmed and tackled immediately.  this play is created for the rb to catch the snap and run immediately, and with this new adjustment from the patch, the entire play is no longer functional, which is one of the most fun and popular gadget plays in the NFL today.  is there any way to fix this?  thank you.

  • bigg6987 said December 04, 2009

Overall, reading what's changed in the update sounds pretty good. I played a game before I read the changes, the ONLY difference I noticed was the jet sweep from the wildcat bunch formation no longer hands the ball off properly.

I'm not quite sure where to direct my ideas, but I have several that I'd like to offer for Madden 11.

I would like for global substitutions to be brought back. I don't like only having the 35-40 seconds to try to substitute players from the play select screen. It would be nice to be able to have certain players play certain positions in certain formations. All this can be done from the pause or franchise menu screen.

I would like the playbook creator brought back. I'm not big on the play creator itself, because people use that to exploit the game online. I would like a playbook creator. I'd like to be able to select the packages that I want in my playbook, rather than finding the one I like by trial and error.

When you're on the play select screen, I'd like to see the option for trick plays. When you select play by type. Standard pass, shotgun pass, quick pass, etc. Reverses, flea flickers, hb passes. Any of these should be included in the trick plays.

I would like to see there be no players wearing 00 on the side lines. Put different numbers on each player, even if they aren't correct numbers. If you have the same numbers when offense and defense are on the field, makes no difference.

I think that there are too many cut scenes with the wrong person, after a td. When you score a td with one receiver, and another one is celebrating alone, kinda weird.

There are too many discussions between the referees about TD calls. It really slows the game down. On one drive, inside the five yard line, all four plays had to be discussed. Those four plays took about two minutes.

To a small degree, I'd like to see helmets come off. On some of the other games, it was way over done. After a great hit, it would be nice to occasionally make someones helmet pop off. Not only offensive players either. If Brandon Jacobs lowers the shoulder, I fully understand if my lb or safety loses his helmet.

While I'm playing a game as my Lions, I'm constantly getting facts about the Bengals. How the Bengals drafted x amount of players, and how x amount of those players are still in the league. I only play as the Lions, unless I'm online, but I assume this issue isn't only an issue with the Lions.

It doesn't happen very often, but when I'm actually able to block a kick, every time it has been ruled a fumble recovery. I realize that it's probably because my buddy and I compare stats so much, but I try to brag about my blocks, and it never shows up in the stats. Does the ball have to touch the ground for it to be ruled a block, or are you not allowed to catch the ball off the punter/kickers foot?

My buddy complains to me about the captain patches not being realistic. He says if Peyton Manning has three stars in real life, it should be that way on the game. Or you should be able to assign captain stars yourself.

In playing the game, I'm sure I'll come up with more ideas. I've been a Madden fan since the first game, always will be. I'll play regardless, but I'd like to see EA do more to justify the exclusive NFL rights. I can't help but think they would work harder to make a better game if they had someome to compete with. Like how NBA Live gets better, trying to catch up to 2K every year. Hopefully I didn't bore everyone with my rambling.

Post second patch - have they fixed the IR glitch? When you place a player on IR does it free up a roster spot like putting a player on IR does in the real NFL? At this point, it's the only real complaint I've had.

  • MERKS973 said December 04, 2009

i think they should improve the game play of both def and off lines theres to many faults in that area as far as players just getting thru like there on speed steroids especially when the o line is better than the opponents d line in the real nfl ..n sec they should add strafe button to all receivers on offense

  • bigg6987 said December 04, 2009

I can't say for positive, but I don't believe there was ever an IR problem. With the roster update I started my franchise with, the Lions had two players on IR. I was pissed that I couldn't release or trade either of them. I counted my players, and including the two IR players, I had 54 players. I can't double check this right now, someone is playing their franchise on my console, but I am quite sure of it. Hope this helps

Well hats off to easports for the hard work on a highly succesful madden for the year 2010. and me and alot of other madden players were pleased this year with the pro tak; animation was awesome;Online franchise was fantastic; and online gameplay great. But your jobs aren't done yet new year and new technology.

    Ideas for next Season:

    Hair animations

    Tattoos

Use an updating symstem as Nba live

    Size and Strengh matters

    Bring back Playbook Creator

    Smarter Ai

Have Players act like real life counter part[hot and cold streaks]

Rehab Facilty[drills to help injured player get back on the field]

Nfl Draft Combine [Super Star mode]

Second chance[when the player is triped by an arm tackle let his awareness, stiff arm, and elusiveness by using his arm to help him regain his blance.

Pro tak needs to look and feel more realistic

Tackling Animation[have the player being tackle and the player giving the tackle bodies interactive with each other.

Okay so the new software update not so great. After simulating a season both Michael Turner and Adrian Peterson broke the NFL single season rushing record. Turner led the league with 2,202 yards. 5 players averaged over 6 yards per carry. The league leader had a 7.5 average on 258 attempts. 20 players averaged over 5 YPC. 36 averaged 4.5 or better. Also the sacks are outrageous Robert Mathis led the league with 36.5. Six players had 20 or better. And 47 tallied double digit sacks. I know they are just stats but for me makes playing franchise pretty pointless.

  • Jacobs71 said December 09, 2009

What is the possibility of a patch update that adds Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan, Charlie Weis and some other coaches currently taking the year off to the coaching pool on franchise mode? Or should I got create them as players and have them retire and wait two years?

  • mcrunner2207@yahoo.com said December 09, 2009

This update screwed up the game.  Whenever I run the wildcat I don't hand off the ball when I am supposed to and it makes a weird animation.  I don't know how an update can screw up something that was never wrong with the game.  It worked up until the moment that update happened.  It has gotten me screwed on so many online games.  EA Sports should fix this.

you should add more catch animations or show more catch animations you should also try to add more sideline catches where the players drag their feet instead of just doing a regular catch suggestion for a title update or for madden 11

  • demcowboys3712 said December 20, 2009

you should also alter the way tackle statistics are because in the nfl they credit assists as tackles just a thought.

  • RuralRampage said December 22, 2009

demcowboys3712 - with the current engine that EA is using, we aren't going to get much more out of madden including better catching animations.  EA is going to get left behind if they don't get the Euphoria engine for their game like BackBreaker

  • ineedtexmex said January 10, 2010

How come when I kick off and kick it out of bounds around the 10yrd line, the ball is spotted where it went out instead of the 40yrd line? Kick off to the left with a right footed kicker. It's apparently programmed like a punt.

  • denverbro89 said January 28, 2010

EA should get actual sport licenses on the game, like scouts inc. ESPN, CBS sports, and NFL Network, not Snickers Chompetion and Sprint, those are commercial ads that have nothing to do with football and no offense to EA, but we really don't need to see or hear about EA in the game, we know who made the the game, its the only NFL Football game.

  • denverbro89 said January 28, 2010

I would love to see ESPN's axis replay system in the game, I think that would be pretty cool. Also Madden should get the big time announcers, commentators, and analyst, no disrespt to Collinsworth, but he is a lot better on Showtime doing post game analysis, I love Monday Night's cast, those four guys(Jon Gruden, Tony Kornheiser Ron Jaworski and Mike Tirico) make it exciting to watch football on Monday Night.
