For the first time in NHL outdoor game history, the home team
emerges victorious on Jan. 1, 2010. That was the conclusion reached by
video game giant EA SPORTS in a simulation to determine the outcome of the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
Predicting a contest that includes 60 shots, 22 minutes in penalties
and four goals scored in the third period, the Bruins emerge with a
thrilling 4-3 victory at Fenway Park. EA SPORTS used its NHL10 game engine to simulate the matchup that will be played outdoors in two weeks on New Year's Day.
The Bruins will squander three one-goal leads before Marc Savard
scores the winning goal, unassisted, with 1:40 remaining in the third
period. His dramatic goal, Savard's second of the game, overshadows a
hat trick from Flyers captain Mike Richards, the first in Winter
Classic history.
