EA SPORTS NHL 10: A Game Changers Season

Posted On: Feb. 8, 2010 9:37 AM EST By: Dewiel 10 Comments

Eric Lamontagne is in the top 5 for most active Members of the EA Community. He is a moderator for the NHL Series, Grand Slam Tennis, and EA's Newest title EA SPORTS MMA. You can find him on the forums under the name oilersguru, or on XBOX live under the gamertag IIx GURU xII.  Eric can be found playing all and any Sports and Racing titles, and is always up for a challenge.  He has also been known for writing game of the week blogs for EA, CBC, and The Score.

Welcome to the first of many NHL 10 Game Changers Season Blogs!

Each and every week I will write and update you guys on what's happening in the Game Changers season, from goals to highlights, tips and tricks, and game breaking moments.

To first get you guys up to speed this season is being played on hardcore superstar with custom sliders and auto passing. I decided to go with the auto passing as I found the manual passing to off for my liking. I came up with this idea, as each and every year I run a similar season with my friends and members from the community, which has been very successful.

Each week I will play three games and update each month with full stats and standings so everyone can keep up to date with what is going on during the season.

As we embark on a new season, much has changed in the NHL.

The Atlanta Thrashers have folded, and Winnipeg has been awarded a new franchise. Owned by EA SPORTS, Winnipeg was told to be a game changing team. Made up of mostly free agents, and what EA SPORTS is calling Game Changers.

Most of the big names from Atlanta have been signed by team spanning the entire NHL, aside from a few. Big names like Ilya Kovalchuk, and Johan Hedberg.

As we get closer to the first week of the NHL Let's get a closer look at Winnipeg's new team

(LD) Matvichuck, (RD) Anton B (83)
(LD) Tarnstrom, (RD) Semenov

(G) Raczilla (83)
(G) Thibault

Now that the season is under way, Let's see how well these young and veteran players can compete in the new NHL.

Winnipeg's first game is against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

As the puck drops here in Winnipeg for the first time, the fans all dressed in elite made famous back when the Winnipeg Jets were the team.

The Monsters played a very aggressive style hitting anything that moves. The way the Monsters played tonight will send shock waves throughout the NHL. This is a message teams will get very fast that this is a team to watch out for.

The monster showed both skill and poise as they dominated the TBL 5-2. The Monsters went up 5-0 going into the third period, when the Lightning came back to respond with two goals.

But with goals like this, they really had no chance!

Dewiel led the way with 8 hits in the game along with 2 fights; he really went out there to set the tone and a message that this is a team who is for real.

Now let's take a look at the Box score for the game

Next up the Monsters will take on the Blues

The Monsters came into this game with the same energy that they left their last game against the TBL.The Blues were completely out played the entire game.

Dewiel did manage to get himself a game misconduct picking up all of Wpg's Pim's in the game. He led the way with 3 fights and a game misconduct.

As seen above Dewiel was out to get under everyone's skin, and force them to draw penalties, and take all the momentum away.

But with out the strong goal tending from Raczilla, who kept them in the game the whole time stopping all 14 close range shots.

Raczilla also started the scoring off by headmaning the puck to a streaking Oilersguru to open the scoring in the game.

The Monsters embarrassed the Blues throughout the whole game, getting all 5 goals on the break a way.

As seen below Joborule undressing goaltender Chris mason

Also from the Monsters was Captain Justin Dewiel scoring on the Power play before being ejected from the game, and Joborule as well getting a penalty shot awarded to him when Pietrangelo hauled him down.

Coming up to this Saturday's Game, this will be a very tough task as the Sens will be making their first appearance in Winnipeg in almost 15 years!

The Sens are 2-0-0 to start the season shutting out both teams they have faced. Winnipeg may be their toughest challenge yet.

The Sens were the best team in this game by far dominating in every field, But the Monsters were still able to come out on top in overtime. The Sens doubled the Monsters in shots, hits, time on attack. The only thing that stood between the Sens and a win was the effort of the defensive core. Winnipeg picked up 51 penalty minutes in this game, which was Winnipeg's biggest struggle.

Oilersguru opened the scoring with a solo effort, taking the puck away from Winchester, as he came out of the penalty box, beating Laclaire five hole with a dandy move.

The Sens quickly responded with two back to back goals in the second only 12 seconds apart, they held onto that lead until the Sens defense broke down.

Check out the Video!

The late goal scored with only 3 minutes left in the game set up a amazing finish with only seconds left in overtime. Oilersguru got off on a break a way and was taken down....

After this week what can Winnipeg and the Game Changers bring to the table in their upcoming games?

I look forward to the feedback, questions, and insight from each and every one of you! I hope this is a success with you guys, as I plan to also start another season with the members of the community, let me know if you are interested, you can either let me know via comment or Private message.
