  • NBA LIVE 10: Bring on the Demo

Hi LIVE fans! Well, the long wait is almost coming to an end. You’re finally going to get a small taste of the new and improved version of Live via the NBA LIVE 10 demo. Sorry, PS3 users, you’ll just have to wait a little bit longer - but don't worry, the demo will be hitting PSN next week. So before the downloading begins, we thought it would be good to let you know what to expect, give you a controller config, and quick rundown of the new gameplay features.

The demo will be 2 quarters of play (4 minutes each) using the Orlando Magic at LA Lakers. You’ll also have access to the new hangar environment when you boot up the game. Here, you can try out some of the new dribble moves and get a feel for all the new shot controls as well. Press the A (Cross) button to cycle through the different players and try out different signature shots. It’s also helpful to just locomote around with different players to get a feel for how the different players move, as each individual in the league will have a unique feel/momentum based on their agility, weight, ball handling ability, and other factors. Keep an eye on the hint boxes in the lower right hand corner as you shoot around in the hangar as well as they’ll give you valuable tips on how to be successful in this year’s game.

  • NBA LIVE 10 - Shooting the Rock

Hi again Live fans.  Well, this is the last gameplay blog you guys will see before the NBA Live 10 demo hits PSN and XBL next week.  I'm really looking forward to seeing all your homemade videos and reading your feedback. Keep in mind that the demo isn't final code, so it's really just a taste of what you'll see in the full game.  Take my word for it, one of the real strengths of Live this year is playing with and against all the different players and teams, which unfortunately, you won't be able to do in the demo.  But I'll let Novell speak in more detail on just how deep the AI upgrade was this year and how we took player/team differentiation to the next level with Dynamic DNA.  I know you sim-heads out there are gonna love it, so expect that blog in the near future.

  • NBA LIVE 10: Passing Controls

Hi everyone, for the next couple of gameplay blogs, we thought we’d switch things up a little.  Since the demo’s dropping in a couple of weeks we thought it would be a good idea to give you guys some quick tutorials on how to use some of the new control mechanics in this year’s game.  Hopefully it’ll give everyone a little head start so when you get the demo you can kinda hit the ground running and get into the game faster...

  • NBA LIVE 10 - Dribble Moves

Today we're going to talk a bit about the Dribble Moves in NBA Live 10. As you saw in Jeff's blog, we spent a lot of time working on the ball handler's movement this year. So as you move around the court and make hard changes of direction, your player will pull off contextual crossovers and planted turns based on which hand he's dribbling with and where he's trying to go. But everyone loves to pull off ankle breaking crossovers and spin moves so we had to beef up what was formerly known as "Quickstrike Ballhandling."

  • A Little Piece of Info on NBA LIVE 10

From NBA LIVE 10 Producer Marcus Stephenson:

Hey guys, I know the playoffs are approaching and most of you are still playing NBA LIVE 09 because of the daily updates via NBA LIVE 365, but our work doesn’t stop as we are crunching away on NBA LIVE 10 as I write this. I just wanted to take a quick moment to talk about something we’re doing for NBA LIVE 10, and how you can give your feedback/recommendations as well!

We’ve heard in the past from the community that our shots all look the same in NBA LIVE.  Well, we’re changing that.  As previously announced by NBA LIVE Designer Mike Wang (along with another small announcement ;)), we’ll have signature shot arcs in NBA LIVE 10. Our goal this year is to have every single player in the NBA with their signature shot arc type.  The best example I can give you is Kobe’s low, flat shot arc. With signature shot arcs, we believe that it’ll show some real variety between different players and their jump shots.

Now, I’ve created a thread on our official forums as we start tuning the individual shot arcs. Feel free to leave recommendations, comments, video reference or anything else you think might help in getting the correct shot arc for each player.  We’re tuning them either way, but I thought you guys might want the opportunity to chime in with your thoughts.

Yes, I know this is a small thing and that other things definitely need improvement (and we are working on that), but I just thought it would be a cool little piece of info for all of you.  Thanks for all the support lately in the community for what we’re doing with NBA LIVE, and the direction we’re taking the franchise.  We’ll be back soon with more bits of info that hopefully gets you guys excited about next year!
