They can put any kind of CRAP in the game and we have to take it because you cant go get a different college football game thats better. That is so UNAMERICAN! I agree we need more than the same old 10 second celebration after winning a game against a scrub team as YOUR BIGGEST RIVAL? And bowl games and the championship I mean come on guys you have ALL YEAR TO COME UP WITH STUFF TO PUT IN THE GAME AND THIS IS THE BEST YOU CAN DO? If I didnt love college football I would QUIT BUYING THESE CRAPPY VERSIONS of college football. And like before we cant even have FORMATION SUBS THAT WAS IN PS2? wth. NO COACHES that was in PS2? You guys have a ton of great ideas right here and you should listen to what your customers want to see!!!! This is SO FRUSTRATING TO SEE THE POTENTIAL OF A GAME LIKE THIS GO TO WASTE! I HOPE AND PRAY THAT THE NCAA WILL NOT RENEW THEIR CONTRACT WITH EA THAT GIVES THEM EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES!

And honestly there are some things about it that make it funner to play than madden. But it just always feels like a rehashed game more than madden does. I mean I hope NCAA is great, but I don't know how team builder and a forced on the player season showdown is the way to go to make this game better. Work on the small things like GETTING REFS AND CHAIN GANGS ON THE FIELD. ADD TO YOUR ONLINE DYNASTY, a feature that is one step in allowing NCAA to step outta the supposed shadow it's under. Fix animations, AI,etc. If it's in the game, it should be in the video game. THEN work on implementing things like Team Builder and Season Showdown. that's my main argument. Madden or no Madden; slow down on the gimmicky features, add to the realism that is a college football game first.

The only thing that really upsets me that is in Madden which is not in NCAA is the apparent lack of on-field referees in NCAA 10.

Something that bother me about it though:

Showing us a percentage kind of takes realism away. I understand EA is trying to make it easy for the user to use, but it just seems weird to me.

And a couple questions:

1.) Are the linked play relationships all one-to-one? Does any given play only have one other play that it is linked to? Or can the given example of the Power O and PA Power O also be linked with other plays at the same time like a Power O Counter or Power O QB Keeper or Power O WR Reverse or a Power O Flea Flicker?

2.) How are the linked plays set up in the play-book? Is there a special menu of linked plays that are being set up? Or does each page in the playbook have the two adjacent plays next to each other and we have to scan the whole playbook to find the ones we are setting up? I think they've already answered this one in a previous blog by saying there is a special menu for it, but I don't recall specifically.

3.) Are trick plays and/or special teams plays linkable? For example, if you kick a lot of field goals, will you be setting up the defense to be able to run a fake later in the game? Are their kick/punt return reverses or other trick-ish kind of return plays that can be set up?

4.) Does audibling into a play count as setting up a linked play? Or does using a hot-route to change the play cause it to no longer set up the linked play (because now the defense is seeing a slightly different play).

5.) Is there a special button that allows you to audible into the play that is set-up by your current play? So if my play call is the Power O and I notice the defense lined up with 8 men in the box and only one safety, will I have a special command to audible into the PA Power O and take advantage of however well it has been set up so far? Are such plays automatically added to the formation audible? If not, then that would be a great thing to add, EA.

Having just one pro and one con for each setting doesn't make much sense. Each of these should have more indirect effects that affect different aspects of a player's performance.

Other settings that could use some more indirect effects:

Holding blocks longer should also make a blocker less aware of what's going on in the play. If he is focusing all his attention on blocking his guy, he might not be aware if the play changes direction and could end up uselessly blocking a back-side defender on a sideline play instead of breaking off and trying to get someone else who is pursuing the ball carrier. He'll also be less likely to successfully pick up blitzes.

On the other side, not holding their blocks as long would mean they will be more likely to stop blocking a guy who is less likely to get to the play and instead break off to go after a corner or safety who might be running across the field to the ball carrier. He will also be much more likely to pick up more dangerous blitzers rather than staying with a slow defensive tackly while a quicker blitzing backer runs right past him (on play-side) and takes down the ball-carrier in the backfield.

The run back or comeback setting for pass routes would be better if it could be assigned to individual receivers or positions. For example, you might want your much faster starting wideout who can catch better to run down the field and try to burn the coverage deep, but keep your slower slot guys and tight ends closer to the play as dump-off receivers since they won't be outrunning anyone deep anyway.

The running back setting for making a big play should also cause him to be more likely to dive and reach for first downs or goal line and avoid running out of bounds. Protecting the ball should make him more likely to run out of bounds to avoid big hits, and wrap up the ball rather than stretch or dive for first downs or the goaline. It should also make an AI-controlled QB less more likely to keep the ball on option plays, or give it to the fullback on triple options.

I do, however, love the option to tell my defense to focus on the pitch back or QB on option plays. One thing that my high school football coach always did when we played teams that ran an option offense was have one linebacker or safety assigned to watch the running back. Any time they would run the option, that guy's sole assignment was to hit the pitch man as hard as he could. Whether the QB pitched it to him or not. The idea was to make sure that the pitch man knew he was going to get hit every time and make the other team afraid to run the option. And if they stuck with the option, they'd end up fumbling the ball. I wonder if this year's game will finally let me hit the pitch man even if he doesn't get the ball. Wouldn't do much on single-player games (aside from increasing the running back's injury risk or possibly a minor affect to morale), but it could change how a multiplayer game works if it scares the other person away from using the option.

Well, sorry for the long post, those are my initial thoughts. I'm not sure that I like the way that some of these are set up, I guess I'll have to wait and see how they play out.

(i.e. a CB to key(almost like man up) the Z reveiver even if you are in zone coverage. and the downfall would be that he obviously leaves his zone wide open. and if you know your opponent likes to run screens and you are in man coverage having another LB key the running back would be a big strategy move because if your wrong and that LB should be covering the TE then he is wide open for a big play. I can think of a lot of reasons why this would be a good idea and it doesnt affect the whole defense keying on one player but still could have some drawbacks that make it a strategic move.

I AM SO SICK OF HEARING PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT MADDEN BEING THE SH** WHEN IT IS NOT AT ALL. IT'S GAMEPLAY LOOKS IDENTICAL TO LAST YEAR AND THEY HAVE 1 NEW MODE.. WHIIILE ON THE OTHER HAND NCAA HAS SEASON SHOWDOWN, TEAM BUILDER, ROAD TO GLORY, PLAYER LOCK, AND NOW THE ABILITY TO ACTUALLY STRATEGIZE AGAINST YOUR OPPONENT, AND IM SURE THEY'VE ADDED NEW OPTIONS IN ON AND OFFLINE DYNASTIES!! PEOPLE ARE SAYING MADDEN IS BETTER WHEN ALL THEY HAVE DONE IS PUT CHAIN GANGS AND MULTI-PLAYER TACKLES IN... NCAA HAS TRADITION WITH BANDS, AND MASCOTS, AND CELEBRATIONS!!! HEY MADDEN WHERE ARE YOUR MASCOTS???? OOOH YALL DONT HAVE THEM ... THATS COOL

NCAA 10= #1 WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Too much copy and paste by the NCAA people from Madden and less innovation. Innovation is why even though Madden always comes out with some bugs and mistakes here and there, everyone buys it anyways; they always have some sort of new technology that's not gimicky (like season showdown) and that tries to make the game better. Then NCAA uses it, just a year later (ex. the ability to break out of tackles throughout the animation).

Don't get me wrong, I'm somewhat excited for this year's NCAA, and I've already pre-ordered it. However it sounds like I might be disappointed like I was with last years game. Not so much with the graphics or presentation (although the presentation sounds like it could use some work; no chain gang? refs? seriously?!), but with the problem that you guys look to always add some re-hashed idea instead of really coming up with something fresh, that adds to the tradition and awesomeness that is THE GAME (not the gimmicks) of college football. Next year, get the small things right that make the game great, then build to that with ideas, tech., etc that make NCAA it's own, not Madden's lil bro.

Yall hit the nail on the head last year with Online Dynasty; this game needs more things like that. Come up with things that makes the Madden guys have to copy and paste from you! Ben Haumiller, you're the designer. Take the the incredible potential that this game has and turn it into the star it should be every year.

The dynasty mode turns us into a coach, and last year coaches weren't in the game. NCAA Devs, you guys can remedy a HUGE fault many people have with the game by including coaches. Have us be able to create/edit our coach (like PS2) and see them roaming the sidelines and reacting (again, like PS2).

I think the possibilities are ENORMOUS to really make NCAA more than just Madden's little brother, and the development team doesnt develop. They come up with decent (at best) ideas and reaches for acceptance. Do they not even play the game when they are done? And they just wait for Madden to come out and cust and paste the college logos (ok, i know that is A LITTLE overboad) but just venting my frustration. I have been an NCAA buyer every year since 2003 and only one madden in that time. Sadly this year will be madden and i might end the NCAA streak. It is just too disappointing (dont even get me started with things that were in old-gens and have yet to make it into new-gens.......formation subs)

Will these be for each individual player? Because why would (for the option pitch example) want my whole defense to key on the RB and leave the QB open. Or why be force to choose "go for pick or swat" for the whole defense? If i have a freshman CB, that I want to just bat the ball down, why should i not let my ball hawking safety go for the picks? Or my butterfingers LBs go for swats, but let my sticky fingers DBs go for the picks. Same offensively, If i have freshman receiver, just catch the ball, but a 2-time all-american, go for the big play. I think this is a great idea, but i think it should be individualized with an option to make it the whole team.

Will these choices affect ratings (player development)? Obviously the choices would have to be succesful, but if you have a freshman reciever.....if you choose to just focus on catching the ball, and have success.....his catch rating goes up. Then when he is a junior/senior you could go for the big play and he would still have good chance to catch the ball because that skill was developed.

The play calling stuff: Why are there 3 options to stop the run and only 1 to stop the pass? Shouldnt it be (first part) stop run or pass....then the other options (run left, run mid, run right, pass deep, middle, sidelines, short, screen, option, etc.)? Also, i know that a lot of defenses may have the d-line focus on preventing a run up the middle, the DBs preventing outside routes, while the LBs are roaming for if run - outside runs, if pass - coving the middle.

Also, if you choose to spotlight a reciever.....shouldnt it mean you are wanting to choose to stop the pass, but focus on that receiver? It just sounds awful that you can spotlight a single reciever, but whoa whoa whoa about trying to ALSO stop the pass. Why not allow us to choose what type of play and then ALSO a player to spotlight if we want. That player could be a reciever (reverses, options, passes), RB for (runs, options, screens), or even a mike vick like qB (draws, scrambles, etc.)

I definately think this is a step in the right direction, but it seems like you guys are reaching trying to push TECMO BOWL technology (I love that game...but nothing compared to today) on us for use in present day games. I think with a little extra effort, this could have been sweet. But now it just seems like smoke and mirrors compared to what it seems like madden is doing.

i thought we already knew this stuff?

i'm still excited about the game. the additions are cool. however, being from the same company, NCAA will always be compared with Madden. Typically it doesn't match up, but even moreso this year. Madden has raised the bar and NCAA is like a toddler jumping and jumping trying to reach it.
