This is a HORRIBLE concept. Online it works fine...it is a great way to find out who is a good player and who is an a-hole. Offline, it is worthless. I'm getting docked for running up the score on the CPU, which in turn hurts my school overall. Who cares what I do against the computer!! Besides isn't going for an onside kick when you are down by 50 kind of unsportmans like? Or still trying to throw long balls in the 4th with under a minute left when you are down by 50? Well, that's ALL the computer does in the 4th quarter...they should be penalized as well! It's a fine idea in concept but it's just dumb in actuality.

Hey Big Ben Hauwhatever, thanks for giving us a broken NCAA 09 rehash. I said from the get go that you guys needed to work on the CORE ELEMENTS of the game, instead of this gimmick stuff like season showdown. What are you trying to do? Instead of using a cheesy idea to increase sales, how about MAKE THE GAME BETTER! give us real rosters instead of broken ones! (even if yall are working on them, they should've been ready to go waaaay before now!) stop re-using the same animations without creating some new ones! Give us sliders that actually work! Give us a REAL COLLEGE FOOTBALL EXPERIENCE(on the field and in the stands) Online Dynasty saved ur tail last year, but hopefully not again.

Here's a scenario. If u have a lead in 4th qrtr and u. put n ur 2nd team offense will u lose points if ur throwing ball? There is no such thing as running up the score if ur 2nd & 3rd teamers are n the game.

TO everyone who said the game is going to suck. There is over 1000 new animations. That is good to me because i like when tackles,catches,sacks,blocking,bighits. everything too look real as possible. hey everyone who has a problem with sportsmanship. Your stupid because you know if your playing online and someone has a big led on you and they are going for it on 4th come on who likes that. and some people do it because its done to them first. And who like playing a person who is a bad sport unless your a bad sport yourself. Think about it. I am glad u can now see if a person plays cheap. But EA you should really put in a pre-game talking about a teams game plan, star players cause i remember creating a player and once he did enough on the field they would talk about him befor the game. make campus legend harder. Make u do drills like in ps2. And we pick where we want to put are points. Because in real life i am more of a ower running back so i hate having speed that i dont really have in real life. Also refs. need to be there in the game. And to everyone who said that a team passes in the forth with the lead. like a lead greater then 14 and its not 3rd down. and show me teams that dont run the ball in thr 4th. wit a great lead unless back ups are in. and name a team who runs up the score cause it college football. thats crazy.

This is only online. A lot of people don't have fun with people constantly going for it on fourth down, or kicking onsides kicks every time they score, etc. Adding this feature online will make it easier to tell if a potential opponent does that. It has no impact offline.

I like the sportsmanship suggestion and would love to see it on madden. However, I agree with the points of several people, especially chindy23's post about passing with the lead. I would suggest, instead of penalizing pass plays that are over 20 yards, though, that you penalize passes that are completed more than 10-15 yards downfield. It's dumb to penalize a player for skill running after the catch, and I believe that suggestion would be more beneficial to the spirit of sportsmanship.

One more point, I would love to have this on madden.

after some further thought...it occured to me, that this feature really has no place in a NCAA football game. it does, however, as i stated before, definitely belong in madden.

in college, goofy stuff happens on a regular basis. teams with weak kicking games go for it on 4th all the time. running up a score in college often leads to benefits concerning conference standings, rankings which all lead to bowl bids.

in the pros, unnecessary onside kicks are extremely rare, maybe a few times a season throughout the league. andy reid of the eagles seems to be the biggest fan of the surprise onside kick, and he only does it once or twice a year. an nfl team never goes for it on 4th and more than 1 unless they absolutely need it. an nfl team would not run up a score in the fashion, or with the same incentive as a college team because points rarely come into play in division standings. the nfl team has big money concerns vs any minimal benefit of any increased victory margin.

and whereas the "qb sneak glitch" will get the 1st 95% of the time in situations of less than 4th and 2, the risk of injury in such pile-ups prevent that play from happening in the real world as often as it does on madden. in real football, an injury has actual consequences. in online football, all injuries are wiped out with the next game. and nfl players are much less replaceable than college players that can carry more players than an nfl roster and talent levels are much more diluted.

yep, the more i think of it. the less i think this feature belongs in a college football game and the more i think it belongs in madden.

And how about a little accuracy on the rosters for a change. Example QB 19 on Utah. The guy is the starting qb and it's well known that he runs a 4.4 40. And yet on the game he has a 78 speed? Really? Is EA trying to weaken the mid-major teams to prop up the BcS or are they really that lazy about their research?

The feature I've been waiting for is cross-platform online play. If Madden and NCAA are identical games on both Xbox360 and PS3, I see no reason why players on PS3 shouldn't be able to play online against people on Xbox and vice versa. There are already plenty of precedents for cross-platform online gaming (most of which are either xbox360 to PC or PS3 to PC) which date all the way back to the Dreamcast sharing online RPGs with PC servers.

I ask this because I own a PS3 and have no football gaming friend who own a PS3. All my gamer friends hate sports. All my sports-fan friends don't play video game, except for one, but he's too busy doing onine fantasy football to pick up a football video game. And he has an xbox360. As such, my football gaming gets pretty lonely.

But if there are any PS3 owners here who are looking for a new person to play online with, my PSN username is MegaBearsFan. Feel free to email me and invite me to a game or dynasty/franchise :)

I remember last year when madden was doing a promotion for last years game and the "IQ" system and he complained that people went for it on 4th down or 4th and 25. Since I know that madden doesn't play the game, I would like to answer those who really want to know. People go for it on 4th and 25 because it's 4th and 25.....ALL THE CLUCKIN TIME!! Yes that's right if you are playing franchise the "ai" will cheat you out of your first 3 downs. 1st down bounces off your receivers helmet, 2nd down the O-line moves to allow a run stop or sack and 3rd down when it's not an interception-fumble or penalty is a drop by your best receiver if he's past the marker. A 400 lineman will keep up with devin hester or ted ginn and do the dreaded 50 ft. ballet vertical which allows a defender that's not aware of the ball to block any pass. All linebackers have hands like flypaper and can outrun bullet passes to your receivers. So the question isn't why do people go for it so much on 4th down but why is it 4th down so often? Why do you past the line and by some miracle a defender creates a 4th and 1 or inches. I don't want to hear anything about cheesers because the people who waste their time(like me now) only notice these FLAWS because we play the game alot and often on the hardest difficulties. Most of these problems don't crop up on the lower settings when the cpu isn't trying to create losses for a so-called difficulty increase. On rookie my receivers catch, on pro my db's make plays, on all-pro the cpu can't use any QB to lead a tom brady peyton manning 2 min. drill to take the lead right before half time or the end of the game. 4th down also comes from glitchers on the internet who puff up their records and destroy yours with gimmicks. If you get disconnected it's a loss. They rocket catch, the hit stick glitch for fumbles every play and then cry when you have to go for it on 4th to try to get on the scoreboard. I will play a sim game when they make a sim game and I get someone to play a sim game with. Randy moss as linebackers is NOT SIM on 1st - 3rd down. Online glitch gimmicks is NOT SIM football either. Stop trying to force punts on 4th and fix downs 1 - 3. Stop cheating people out of their first 3 downs because that's the real cheese from online record fudgers and too many madden programmers who have never held a football. Before you guys make anymore updates, go out on the company campus and play flag football or tackle in someone's yard so you can understand the intangibles and stop coming up with gimmicks like it's some fantasy mmo. People might not really know what riding a dragon is like and will have to take a games word for it but when it comes to football, we know what it looks like on t.v. and we know what it feels like to play and playing madden just ain't it. Please get it right before someone else does or maybe madden isn't the only one that needs to retire. I wrote this because I noticed that ncaa 10 the less glitchy of the 2 gives points for punting and so that means that we have 2 offices dedicated to stealing 3 downs from players. Stop it EA or prepare for another 1100 people to be laid off.

I would like to see a better legend mode thats more true to life. No player ever just went to classes, practice, and then chose between studying the playbook, hitting the gym, or juststudying for their classes.Im pretty sure college atheletes have more decisions than that. Also I would like to see the legend get drafted in the first round if they are good enough. Thank You

Most of these measures seem like excellent ways to keep games more realistic, and more sportsman like for everyone. I have to echo a comment about the onside kick penalty, however. There are certainly times where kicking onside with a lead, especially a small lead, is sound strategy (how often do you see a close game, and the team with the lead opens the half with an onside kick in order to catch their opponents off guard, and build some momentum) It would be nice to have an onside kick penalty that is contextual, and only penalizes when the onside kick is clearly unnecessary (with a huge lead, for instance)

First of all the sportsmanship concept is a good one in general, but some of the things your giving points to and taking points away is dump. Meaning the QB kneel, some people use it when they have less than 30 seconds in the 4th quarter and their opponent used up all their time outs. In online play most people don't use their timeouts until late in the 4th quarter because either they can get a stop with their defense with say a minute to go or they want to let the other person score as quickly as possible without burning, but 1 timeout so they can get the ball back.

Second like MegaBearsFan said going for it on fourth down shouldn't be penalized unless its godly insane like going for it on 4th and 15 on the 50 or anywhere not on the opposing side of the field going in for the score....Football is situational and all about taking risks. For example say its 4th and 15 on the opposing 20, your kicker has missed 3 field goals already are you going to send him in to possibly miss a 4th or are you going to go for it and hope to get the 1st down....You see you have to think about those kinds of situations before saying going for on 4th down is bad and you'll be penalized...Plus you contradicted yourself by saying if your down big in the 4th go for all you want to on 4th down, but why do that when your going to get points knocked off every time you do that...

Third to NotHenry Porter Road to Glory is hopefully and I'm praying that it is an updated Campus Legend mode with a more in depth feel for it like in the old generation systems....

Let me expound upon the last blog above from me on the hurry up offense issue. To clarify this point I just want to say that not all of the players playing online are as experienced as some others may be and I beleieve there could be a way to let the other opponent know in advance that "hey I run the hurry up and if you're not comfortable with it then find another oponent to play. I will be the first to say that I have pretyy descent skills but they are not as good as someone who sits in front of the game all day and buys cheat books and other materials to "better enhance their skills". I personally am not at all good defending a hurry up attack but thats just me but I know there are many more like me in the community who feel the same way. I know that for the most part when I play someone running the hurry up they usually go down the field in a minute or so and score, then my answer is to run the clock all the way down to the last couple of seconds and use slow methodical drives to give my opponent less time with the ball. I dont like to play this way it just is no fun. And before some smart a$% gets on this blog and says something stupid all I am saying is why not make it a part of either the game registry or make it some way online with registry that a person uses the hurry up so that those of us who are not that good against it can choose to play another opponent. I have no doubt that the DNFs would decrease tremendously.

For the most part, this feature sounds good. But your last point, "Continuing to Pass late in the 4th quarter with a comfortable lead" is unfair. There are plenty of teams in NCAA -- non-BCS conference schools -- who just can't run the ball successfully. However, using quick passes in a spread offense is effective.

For example, on some Sun Belt teams, the fastest running back is an 86 speed, and the offensive line is pretty bad. Running the ball is nearly impossible, especially against an actual Live Person opponent who can read the run immediately with their middle linebacker. In those cases, quick passes are the only offense that might work.

The flawed assumption you're making is that passing = big plays or passing = more successful offense. That's not always the case. Look at the Gators in 2008. Most of their big plays came from the option run, not the pass.

Get rid of this loss of credits for passing late in the game, and maybe replace it with some sort of system that penalizes multiple 20+ yard receptions late in the game. If someone is continuing to just throw deep balls, penalize them. If someone is just trying to move the chains because they can't run the ball, that should be perfectly acceptable.

I agree with some of the statements above, like the one about passing on fourth down ChrisJNelson pointed out.

But the thing about the no huddle is telling the other player what style of offense you run like buffboggswell said I think is something that you should be able to keep to yourself. In real world football you swap game films with other coaches, but you never write the scouting report for them, am I correct?

I don't have online yet, but I like the fact they're putting this on there.

I don't care for the penalty at passing toward the end of the game with a comfortable lead. I'm just a much better passer than I am a rusher on offense, so to run on the clock I opt for short pass plays and dump-offs to run out the clock rather than runs, because I'm more likely to be able to pick up a first down or two and ensure I can run out the clock this way. I shouldn't be penalized for this...

NCAA Football is trully a mid-major game..From the field goal nets, to the goal post socks, and now the emphasis on the in-game sportsmanship. You guys need to regroup pick the brains of your Madden counterparts and come back with a stronger instalment for NCAA 2011. I'm not going near NCAA 10 b/c i my humble estimation, the producers, desgners etc.. have come up way short on a fourth and long play.

Sportsmanship sounds good and I know I'm going to hear it from some of the really good players but the hurry up is a real issue for some people who may not be as skilled as others. Running this type of offense should be something that could be flagged before the game starts to warn other players that they run this style. this would give the opponent the choice of playing the game or looking for another opponent that doesnt use this offense as part of their game strategy. I have no problem with using the hurry up in a situation where time is running out, but for the most part most players do not have defensive audibles set up to give them a fair shot against it. No offense to the players who use it but it would go a long way in thwarting the number of DNF's because of this issue.

hey dude, i live in NZ and NCAA doesn't even make it to the stores. The awesome features and great info on this site have made me decided too hunt a copy down - even at the premium price I know i'll have to play - I watch as much colleege football as i can, and i've played madden since the three button sega mega drive daysand will continue to be a madden junkie - but this looks like the kind of game I'm really gonna like - keep up the good work. One thing though - and i've noticed it with madden online, because we tend to get the game later in the PAL version down here when i go online no one wants to play me 'cause I'm 0/0 and it won't help their ranking -its really frustrating - my online is TimmahNZ - if any one reading this comes up against me, please play me, I'm no chump!!!lol - love your work EA.

Does the game take into consideration field position when you're on 4th down. For example, if its 4th and 10 on the 35 yard line, its too close to punt it. It'll just go into the endzone and your difference is only 15 yards. And if its too far for you field goal kicker, then you risk giving the other team the ball with even better field position. There are situations in NCAA and Madden where the game recommends that you go for it on 4th regardless of the score. In these situations, does the game still deduct sportsmanship points for going for it?

Also, what if you put in your back up guys? Does that have an effect on sportsmanship. Maybe you don't necessarily want to run up the score, but instead, you want to give your freshmen and back-ups some game experience. Obviously, you want to give them an opportunity to be successful so that they will gain more attributes the following year. I guess this would mostly apply to online dynasties.

Also, does the game track sportsmanship points for single player games against the AI? Or is this only applicable in online games? Maybe that was answered in an earlier blog. If so, could someone please remind me.

can you guys make the game adapt to your skill level and make it harder because on 09 by the 3rd year of my dynasty games got too easy on the heisman level. I was blowing teams out 80-0 by just throwing the deep ball or running to the outside so plz make it harder

Well, I think going for it on fourth should be penalized if you are in, say, a 4th and twenty, and there is plenty of time left in the game and u are not losing or whatever. There are plenty of situations this can apply to. Heck, my boy does this WHILE SITTING WITH ME when we play Madden. Dude doesn't know how to punt and the way the old Maddens worked, a LOT of times he would convert those ridiculous 4ths with unbelievable plays.

i dont like this AT ALL except for the concede defeat. Going on fourth down is part of the game. You should NOT be punished for taking that risk. I hope the two point conversion thing only hurts your sportsmanship if you already have a huge lead. Onside kick should only be penalized with a huge lead not a small one. THESE RISKS ARE PART OF THE GAME!!! THEY MAKE FOOTBALL EXCITING!!
